Lenovo p51s Display partially blank sleep mode

Q: Lenovo p51s Display partially blank sleep mode

Hello, I purchased a brand new ThinkPad p51s last week running Windows 7. I noticed that when the laptop was left idle the computer would enter a sleep mode where the screen would automatically dim and slthe display would become patially white. As you can see from the photo I uploaded , the PC would patch up in sleep mode with these white , blank blocks .These partial patches would disappear when I would move the curser but resume after computer was left idle. Is anyone familier or experiencing the same issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

New p51s .. with Windows 7 ? I don't think so ! The installation must be non OEM as the p51s does not (and never did) come with Win 7 AFAIK.

Hello - I have about 50 Lenovo P series Laptops running in our comapny and within the last month, 2 - P51S same make and model has had power up issues.Users reported that they "control +alt+ Del" to lock out their laptops and when then returned the laptop was DOA. The signs are that the power power light is flashing every second ( Indicates in sleep mode)- FAn attempts to start but does not.I have tried plugging in different AC power adapter, disconnecting both external and internal batteries. No change. I have openned laptop and disconnected SSD, Wireless card, ROM battery, fan, speakers etc testing and no difference. I have tried to discharge by removing all power and and tapping power button 10 times and hold in for 30 seconds. No change.  I find it strange that 2 identical laptops would suffer the same issue at the same time?? Looking on internet - this looks like hugh problem that maybe linked to the motherboard issues on this make and model.I have called Lenovo and since out of warranty - sorry. So please help if anyone has any other ideas to try. Thank you in advance

Hello

Recently I changed my old graphics card (from an Nvidia 6600GT to a ATI HD 4670), I also did the following manipulations to solve a problem I had with my computer (side note: I have WinXP):

- Opened my PC case (with power off of course) and check for connections in it, my DVD drive was not correctly connected, fixed it.

- On the motherboard there was a battery looking like a watch battery, took it out for 10 secs to restore factory settings on my motherboard.

- Went inside the BIOS of my motherboard and stumbled upon the fact that USB 2 was not activated, so I swiitched from USB 1 to USB 2.

Now my problem is that when I go to Start> Turn off the computer > Sleep (not sure it's the right word in english, my WinXP is in French). Anyway before when I chose that the computer would go into sleep mode without any problem and that's it. But since I have my new card it doesn't. It seems to (the hard drives etc seems to go to sleep, the screen also finds no signal and also goes to sleep but I still hear a fan running in there with as much noise as when the computer is still running normally, really weird.

I was thinking the fan is the new graphics card, I didn't install it, the vendor installed it for me since i'm not really a brain at internal electronics, maybe there is something to connect on it to tell her when to go to sleep, I dunno. Or it's the proc fan.

Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this please ?

Thanks a lot !

When you removed the CMOS battery, it reset the BIOS to default settings. I don't know what motherboard you have and the BIOS' of different boards can vary but check the Power Management page of the BIOS and see if the suspend type is set to S3 (STR).

Hello,
I need some assistance in diagnosing a problem with my PC. This morning, once I woke up, I noticed my computer's fans were running sporadically while in sleep mode. The fans were running at different speeds in a somewhat sporadic fashion, the computer felt somewhat warm. I could not pull my computer out of sleep mode and had to result in shutting the computer off via the power button. The computer booted up correctly and no issues are currently known.
I have a dell 8190 desktop which I bought around 6 months ago.
I've attached the event log from this morning.

Hi, my external display lost ability to fall into sleep after inactivity timeout is reached. It just turns to black screen, apparent the display is active (I don't use the blank screen screensaver). The display only switches to standby if I unplug the signal cable. Withal it was able to switch into full standby earlier. So something had to change.

I did walk through monitor menu to find if there's some settings for power saving mode, there's none.
Connected via HDMI. Have searched a bit for this problem and found only this be closest to my problem: windows 7 - Monitor doesn't sleep on power off - Super User but the topic doesn't have a solution for me (I don't see any DPMS or power off options, probably for that BIOS is in UEFI mode).

powercfg /availablesleepstates gives this report

Code:
The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S3)
Hibernate
Hybrid Sleep
Fast Startup

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Standby (Connected)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Any resolution on this issue?

A:External LCD display won't fall into sleep (only blank)

Do you have another monitor to try? It sounds like the graphics card realizes the computer is idle, and so it stops sending data to the monitor, but the monitor seems not to understand it needs to go into standby mode.

Swapping monitors with another computer will reveal if the problem is with your monitor, or your computer, depending on if the problems moves to the 2nd computer with your monitor, or stays with your computer with the 2nd monitor.

Hello

For the last two weeks, whenever I tried to wake my desktop computer from sleep mode I was presented the sign on screen and within a split second by a blank screen. For the last 5 years it had worked perfectly.

I knew there could be a plethora of reasons for this, so I began by disabling ASUS's AI nap. After this I decided to update the ATI Radion HD 4300 driver.  I asked it to search the internet and went for a coffee. Ten Minutes later,  much to my amazement, it had installed the new driver without me asking! There was a warning message which I could not decipher.

I then ran Norton to scan the entire computerand went for another coffee.  On return found this:

Every 5-15 minutes by display shuts down on my NEW HP ENVY34C.  It says "PC MODE DISPLAY GOING TO SLEEP."  Sounds like the computer is still running, but the display is off.  As an all in one all I can do is a hard shut down and restart and it kicks right back on.  I just got this 34C off Amazon new with upgraded Ram 32G, SSD HD/1TB secondary.  The graphics card is stock so I'm not sure why I'm having this issue.  I love the computer, but the sceen shutting off every 10 mins is very frustrating given the money I paid for this.  By the way, it shuts down during active use, and the power settings have no impact on the display not shutting down.  Thanks - Jack

Hello,

I recently built a computer and have been running into the problem of my PC crashing when using the "Turn of the Display" feature in the power options sleep menu. The display will turn black and the fans will spin up to max and the PC will be unresponsive until I do a hard reboot. If I dont use the turn off display feature, the computer will enter sleep just fine. However if i use a screen saver then the PC will never enter sleep. My PC is overclocked but I have never had a crash which has not been related to sleep mode.

This has not really been an issue as I have been avoiding the use of these features, although I would like to find the cause of the problem if possible. Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.

Hello. I would suggest you to update the drivers of your laptop (Mainly the Intel drivers). Here is the link to search for your drivers. Link: https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/ EDIT: I guess if you connect a external display, the external display will awake from sleep, if this is the case then something in your software is bad.

So I wake the computer out of sleep mode and use it for a few minutes but get this message soon afterwards (along with the computer freezing).

1. The computer "slows down," music/video lags, mouse response also lags
2. Screen goes black for a few seconds
3. Screen returns to normal, but mouse and keyboard not functional aka "frozen"
4. Message pops up: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 196.21 stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
5. Since I still cannot do anything, I must do a hard reboot.

Apparently, despite this message, the driver has NOT successfully recovered, or at the very least, hasn't fully recovered.

What could be causing this problem? I am using S3 Sleep Mode.

This issue seems to be a pretty difficult to solve, hope someone out there may come up with a solution. Over the last few days I have been trying to figure out how I can:1. turn of the display using a hotkeyand(!)2. avoid the P52 going into sleep after a while of non-activity. In fact, simulate the same situation as turning off the display using a power switch, like on a desktop.Sadly a power switch isn't available. Have tried out a number of options within Windows 10 power plan advanced settings (balanced). Just now I have set the power plan to "Timers Off (Presentation)", which I believe is meant to leave the laptop running at maximum performance, i.e. never turn off display, never turn off the HDD, etc. My experience is that I -should- leave the display turned ON then.IF I use a hotkey to turn it off I should not turn it off (using a hotkey*), then:a. the screen turns on again, after 2-3 minutes  (some unknown wake up/timer is causing this)and/orb. if it stays turned off, then the laptop falls asleep (* using Windows power plan->Advanced settings-> Power buttons and lid -> Sleep button action: Turn off the display, both battery and plugged in) Windows 10 x64 Pro on Lenovo P52 Thanks! below current settings

I routinely use a second monitor but these last few weeks either the laptop doesn't recognize the 2nd monitor or else it does breifly and then the monitor blanks and goes into low power/power saving mode.  Same issue with two different monitors.  There is no problem with the laptop's built-in display. After researching, I suspect it is a by-product of the recent Windows 10 update.  Mixed advice on solutions.  I tried updating all my drivers from Windows Device Manager.Several posts recommended going to manufacturer (intel) and downloading drivers. Its automatic utility did not detect a current driver, but under older versions there was one from about a year ago. (I didn't try to install.)I've changed power settings so have monitor "always on". No difference. What else can I try? This is really frustrating.

Hi. I have a Lenovo C440 All-in-One deskstop computer. I've had it for about two years. In the poast few days, it has been waking up on its own whenever I put it into sleep mode. What is causing this and how do I fix it? It came with Windows 8 and I upgraded to Windows 10 about a month ago. I wonder if the Windows 10 upgrade has something to do with it but I'm not sure. I ran a full scan using Norton antivirus software today but obviously that didn't fix anything. So how do I fix this problem?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

It is very possible that a Windows 10 update made some changes which now wakes up your system.  That OS has quite a few activites that run in the background.  Please review the article in my link below.  That information has helped others resolve their wake up problem.

Yes, it's likely to be a driver problem. If you can download the driver to the desk, rightclick it for 'troubleshoot compatibility' and choose the Vista driver.Rating posts helps other users

Hi,

I've seen like a million other threads for this particular problem with just about every kind of possible solution there could be. However, as no two computers can be identical, I'd give it a shot and get some help on this one.

After attempting to resume Win7 from Sleep, none of my displays awoke so I shut the system down, checked all cables and leads for the monitors. As it were, no issues.

I booted my PC to be presented with a whole lot of ... Nothing. All drives and fans were functioning, my DVDROM did it's little check for CDs, all the normal crap, only it neither woke up, or brought me to GRUB.

Thus far, I've reset CMOS, done bare bones booting, tried my GPU, HDDs and PSU in my several other self built machines. No problems, no drama.

I'm yet to test my CPU and RAM in another machine, as I don't actually have another capable of it at present. I'm also quite unsure on whether my speakers works or no, I've tried several with no beep codes.

As of right now, it's still set up for bare bones booting. I should also mention that the power button needs to be held to kill the system on an attempted boot.

Any ideas, or help would be appreciated, specs will be posted below.

Cheers for the assistance.

A:No display, beep code or boot after Sleep Mode

EDIT3: As it so happens... It seems to be booting successfully now. I've put all hardware, cables and leads back to their original locations and it boots, or so I assume. The activity indicator now does it's job when the PC is booted, and my reset button works once again. I still require to hold the power button to kill my system, but I believe that is due to ASUS TurboKey (Makes power button auto overclock PC on-the-fly). Displays still don't function. Going to attempt my alternative GPU and will re-edit with results. USB mouse and keyboard also appear to not function, which is normal at certain stages of my boot up. The only times they function during boot is at BIOS, GRUB and once I've launched my OS. Still, could be a potential problem indicator.

EDIT4: No change. Main, alternative and onboard, it doesn't matter what, it doesn't display anything.

EDIT5: The CPU and RAM are fully functioning in another system, it would appear either the BIOS isn't receiving the power up signal or it's damaged/corrupted. Unfortunately, I cannot flash the BIOS or restore it. Problem solved.. Sort of. Going to replace it, but keep it incase either myself or someone else stumbles upon a possible solution. I'd like to request this thread stays open incase anyone has ideas, or I find the solution so it can be archived at least. Thanks for, well, allowing me to brain storm.

Any help and ideas would still be appreciated.

Hello Taey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

While changing the advanced power plan settings, double check to make sure that your default power plan is still selected. It's a bit to easy to change it by mistake and not notice it. In addition, double check your Battery settings to see if the percentage levels may be set to cause this by mistake.

Hope this helps for now.

Only 48 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 to 80 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available.

The memory dumps blame usbccgp.sys, but MSINFO32 lists ks.sys (kernel streaming of video driver)
And this seems to happen during a power down event (such as power off/hibernate/sleep/etc)

Finally, what applications do you delay using Startup Delayer?
What USB devices do you have connected?

I'm concerned about your version of Diskkeeper as it dates from Jan 2013 - well before Win8.1 was released.
Can you update it? If not, please uninstall it while we're troubleshooting.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I followed what it said and installed the audio driver and BIOS v35 (and subsequently, v52) but I'm still having the same problem. Any ideas on a solution? Thank you in advance! I think it might also be worth mentioning that beforehand, whenever I put the computer in sleep mode, it wouldn't resume and wake up until I had installed v35, so part of my problem's been fixed.

I am having a sleep mode problem on 100 15IBD.  If I step away for 10 seconds it goes to sleep mode.  I have fixed all the power options and it still continues. It appears there is a fix for this (I have lost that at the moment) but I was concerned about the BIOS.  Is that important?  Does that matter for the update?  I can tell you what the BIOS is if necessary. I just do not want to screw up the laptop.  I am sure many of you know what I mean. Thanks.

Hello, Lenovo team Can you please, add to your next BIOS update for Lenovo Y50-70 a fix, that my laptop won't lose CPU speed after i return my laptop from sleep mode. Right now i'm using BIOS version (3.03) There is no other way to fix this issue, only you can do it with a BIOS update for that model of laptop. Thank you.

Greetings! I recently bought a new laptop, Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 15-ISK, with Windows 10 Home preloaded. I found a minor problem that happens frequently. After the laptop is idled for a period of time, 5 or 10 mins depending on plugged in or not as you know, the laptop first turns off display, then goes into sleep mode after another 5 or 10 mins. The problem is, after I come back and try to turn it back on, the screen stays black. However, I can see that the laptop is indeed responding by pressing NumLock, CapLock, or in my case, Fn-Space to turn on/off the backlight of keyboard. I checked and I have the latest windows updates and latest drivers for everything. So, any brilliant idea on this issue? Thanks in advanced.

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y700-No-power-no-display/td-p/2228277 Does it goes to normal after reset? If yes turn off hibernate mode as soon as possible!!! you will find a way to do it in the thread above. If it doesn't go back to normal and you are stuck with a brick then the only solution is to send it for a warranty repair. There is a bug in the bios which causes that.

Hello all, I bought my lenovo Edge 2-1580 in December, but recently, the display won't turn on after I wake it up from sleep mode. The rest of the notebook still turns on and the power button is lit, but the screen will stay black even if I move the mouse or press any keys. I have to do a manual shutdown and then turn it on again, which works but then the problem occurs again when it goes to sleep mode. I've updated the drivers and disabled the notebook from going to sleep, but if I manually put it into sleep mode the problem continues. I've seen this as a common issue regarding Windows 10 as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

A:Lenovo Edge 2-1580 won't wake up after sleep mode

I just resolved this issue recently with my Flex 3 1580, so hopefully my solution works for you.  First, update the video/graphics driver (intel or nvidia) from the Drivers & Software page on support.lenovo.com.  Test sleep mode again.  If the screen is still not turning back on, then update your BIOS.  Back on the Drivers & Software page, look for the latest BIOS update and run it.  In both cases, but especially for the BIOS update, make sure your laptop is plugged in.

My T440s Ultrabook will not charge when I'm working, only when the laptop is in Sleep mode. The battery tests as ok. I just ordered a new AC Adapter but that hasn't solved the problem. Thanks kschramm10
