Preferred Solution: E50-80 - Problem with bios, I don't see the BIOS Advance Options

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this but I've been having trouble with my new motherboard BioStar TZ68K+ . Whenever I access the BIOS, the selection keeps moving up as if the "up arrow" key on the keyboard was stuck. My keyboard is connected via purple PS2 in the back. I tried with a different keyboard, this time a USB connection, and still the same result. It seems to be happening only in the BIOS as it doesn't do any strange behaviour when I'm in Windows. I updated the BIOS to the latest version and cleared the CMOS using the jumper on the board.

Is there anyway to fix this or is it hardware problem?

Thank you!

A:Problem with selecting options in BIOS

Because you have tried a different keyboard (and not just connected the same keyboard differently), and because you have upgraded the BIOS then that leads me to think that there is a defect in that motherboard.

The BIOS has an independent keyboard controller "driver" that is written into the instructions. If that instruction set is bad then there is nothing you can do.

I would contact BioStar immediately and see if they are aware of this problem so they can correct it in the next BIOS update.

Is there any way to know in advance if going from 64 MB RAM to 256 will require me to flash BIOS? I have an FIC VA-503+ systemboard and Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG, version 1.13JK10. I asked crucial.com tech support, who said it wasn't possible to know beforehand, but from the messages I've read here, I get the impression that maybe I don't have to worry about it. Is that so?

Thanks!

A:Can I know in advance if I have to update BIOS to add RAM?

There was no RAM related BIOS for that board, 128 is the largest single module it can handle, so 256 in 2 modules should work fine.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Okay, so I got the laptop from my aunt and she gave it to me broken, not booting up. So I wanna upgrade/downgrade the BIOS and probably will help with the issue. It booted yesterday, but it didn't today. I followed the instructions in this document at Recovering the notebook BIOS using an external device. I currently have a blank non-bootable USB, and whenever I extract the BIOS there, I get "Error IHIS! not support current BIOS" followed with "BIOS did not support InsydeFlash"  May anyone please help me to finally fix this devil. Any help would be appreciated.    And yes, It is on Windows 10 Pro 32 bit. I did a fresh clean install of it yesterday.

Hi
I am running a home-constructed PC (started out life as a Dell, but i had to replace the motherboard and - well, one thing led to another).

Asus A8N-E running NVidia nForce4 with AMD processor
Windows XP professional
Zone Alarm security suite

It's been working fine for a couple of years with the odd hiccup but i transferred to Zone Alarm from McAfee about four months ago, and upgraded to IE7 - security and fire walls seem to be a big part of the problems i've had in the past so i thought i'd mention it.

last week i had the "application error with winlogon.exe" error on log on and I couldn't boot at all. I did a repair install from the XP disk which *Mostly* worked, but now I have no mouse. I am having to tab through the browswer fields to even post this message which is incredibly frustrating!

Odd symptoms:
* IE has rolled back to version 6 (I guess that might be a function of the repair install)
* In the device manager there is NO "mouse and other pointing devices" entry, let alone any mouse recorded under it
* In the control panel, the mouse hardware properties are completely blank (no way of updating driver or getting more inform, ation - selecting the buttons does nothing)
* In Regedit the particular registry key that Microsoft says I should be looking for (at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142405) which is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Class/Mouse doesn't even exist in the registr... Read more

A:Mouse Not Detected, bios problem? Can't even get INTO bios on boot

Most likely a bad mouse, or a bent mouse pin, or you are using one of those wireless mouse units, or a cheap usb mouse.

Mouse detection problems are exceedingly rare except for the above... never heard of a mouse being affected by a virus.

Uninstall Zone Alarm if you are using Internet Explorer 7.0 because you will always have problems otherwise.

Made the huge mistake of updating BIOS. Had small MOBO usb prob, and for some reason thought a BIOS update would do something. Wasn't too worried because Gigabyte touts Dual BIOS pretty strong.

Anyway, tried updating BIOS, then system would not boot, so the Backup BIOS didn't kick in. btw, the MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro.

So I copied the backup bios to a floppy and used the floppy to fix the main bios. OK, now computer would boot, but would freeze up after the desktop icons appear. Actually would sometimes work for a few minutes, but always froze up.

Boots OK to safe mode, even to the point of getting online, so I downloaded the old bios from Gigabyte, put them on floppy and used that to update the main bios. Same result.

Also did a system restore from XP Pro Safe Mode (because XP wrongly states that this can be undone; didn't find out that System Restore done from safe mode cannot be undone until I tried to undo!).

My tech support (ABS Computer; they rule) thinks that the BIOS is now fine, that some windows files are corrupt and a re-install will fix problem and mobo is probably fine as well. I'll buy that.

anyone have any miracle suggestions before i re-install? Is a repair install worth a shot? Really not looking forward to re-installing all my software and putting all my data back where it belongs to get my email hist., bookmarks, etc. back.

thanks - I will now write the following 500 times: LEAVE THE BIOS ALONE! even with Dual BIOS

In the Dell XPS 13 (9360). Using the latest BIOS 1.3.2 (but the old previous BIOS version was the same).

If you go to the "Fn Lock Options" under BIOS, there are 2 options, they are listed as:
Lock Mode Disable/Standard   = The F1-12 Keys behave as function keys
Lock Mode Enable/Secondary = The F1-12 Keys control the secondary functions.

These options are Swapped. If you disable the "Fn Lock" and set the mode to "Lock Mode Disable/Standard", log into Windows, and Press F1, it will then MUTE the system. Even though it should act like an "F1" Key.
If you go back into BIOS, set the mode to "Lock Mode Enabled/Secondary", log into the system and Press F1, then the Help comes up.

The options are swapped on these two configure options. Please update the text in the BIOS to match the appropriate configuration. Thanks. I've included a ScreenShot of the BIOS options. "Fn Lock" does do what it describes (disables Fn-Esc). Doesn't matter if u turn this on or off. If you have it set up as I do below, the Fn Keys are set for the proper Function (F1-F12) operation. However, the text says it should do its secondary functions in this mode.

I have two bios options in the bios that will probably make the pc faster, but I want to know that it is safe. The first one is the HT speed, it is set at 400, but I can set it to 800. Should I do this?

The second is the DRAM Dimm voltage adjustment. I have geil value ram ddr400 running at 227 fsb with 2.5-3-3-6 timings. The voltage is set at 1.6, should I set it to 1.65?

Will these settings make a performance difference?

A:Weird Bios options I don't get?????

hey there,

The ht speed is the bandwidth between the CPU and the AGP slot. You dont really need to up it unless your having trouble with your graphics card.

The only reason you would need to up the voltage on the RAM is if you have overclocked it. If you have then a higher voltage will make it more stable. If you havent, you'll just be giving it a higher voltage.

Hope this helps

Hello.I have a G40-30 laptop.I changed the hard disk and installed windows 10. The problem is when I boo my computer after post and before windows it shows me 2 messages. "Windows boot manager boot failed" where I press ok and then "Lenovo recovery system boot failed" where I press ok again and then it enters Windows normally. Those errors are because the original Hard Disk had installed 2 partitions extra one for each error. From Bios I change from EFI to legacy and I change to "legacy first" for boot priority. But after saving and restart the "legacy first" boot priority is not saved and it has changed back to EFI. The fist chane remains saved as I selected it.I tried updating the BIOS with the latest version but when I select to procced with the update the computer restarts and the BIOS is not updated.Again the computer works fine but I cannot save the changes I make to the BIOS. And I have tried to restore default setting to the BIOS but nothing changed.Any thoughts would be very helpfull.Thank you

SATA AHCI Mode [Disabled]
SATA Port0-1 Native Mode [Disabled]
My HDD is recognized as SATA-II by HD Tune though the speeds of my HDD are kinda slowish 30mb/sec,but anyway my main question is: Is it ok if i leave them disabled or its better to have them enabled? I'm planning on buying another SATA-II HDD and im curious of these settings.

Have you ever seen a BIOS that has absolutely no boot options other than the internal disk.

I bought this little 11.6" Asus X205TA 1.0 laptop which is actually a handy little device. It obviously has no optical drive but 2 USB ports. But the temporary and permanent boot order does only allow booting from the internal disk. I am really stuck if I want to e.g. recover from a Macrium image.

I guess I will have to make my own refresh images. And even those I can only use as long as the machine functions. Any other ideas.

Where can I find an operating manual for the HP branded motherboard? My Oct. 2016 (build date) Omen 870-030vx desktop has 4x SATA connectors on the MB (Z170 chipset).  It has a 512gig SSD boot drive attached to SATA#1. I attached 2x 6gig HDDs to SATA#3 and #4 thinking that HDDs are usually connected in pairs for RAID such that channel 1 would be SATA#1&#2 and channel 2 would be SATA#3 & #4. The BIOS set up lets you change from AHCI mode to RAID but it never gives you an option to choose which set of HDDs you want to place in the array - nor does it have an option to choose RAID "0" or RAID "1", etc. If RAID is choosen in the BIOS then the computer fails to boot.  What have I done wrong here?

A:How to set up RAID in BIOS - not many options

Abdo2, welcome to the forum. I am not certain that you can see more options in the BIOS.  Once you're in the BIOS, you can use the arrow keys to move from section to section and through the options in each section.  If the option is greyed out, it means that it is not available.  HP keeps their BIOS options to a minimum. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hi, I bought a refurbished HP Z210 Workstation for personal use and so I had no need for AMT/Intel ME features to stay active.Weird enough, the BIOS setup would not show the AMT/ME management options under the Advanced sub-menu.I even performed an update to the latest BIOS (from 1.51 to 1.53) to no joy. I had to resort to BCU (BIOS Configuration Utility) to deactivate AMT/ME as the options did show up in the file. I have searched the Net  thoroughly for an answer to this issue but could not find any. Is anyone out there who has a clue about it? Thanks in advance. Roger

I have an S230u thinkpad that I am trying to install a second partition that will a be linux partition.  I am trying to install from a usb stick, but when I go into the bios to disable secure boot and change the boot order I am unable to change any of the options present.  In fact, a lot of options in the bios are uneditible.  I can't change the time or date, for example, or change the password, even though the I entered the bios by using an empty password.  How do I fix this?
