P52s Code 12 on device

Q: P52s Code 12 on device

Have just bought a ThinkPad P52s Have setup a multiboot with Windows 10 (64-bit), Windows 7 (64-bit) and Windows 7 (32-bit) and have 3 issues: (3 of 3 ) : Code 12 (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use) One of the key purposes of getting this Laptop was to use Thunderbolt 3 to connect an express card adapter to enable a firewire cardbus and a SCSI cardbus to the laptop to enable us the repair/maintain some legacy scanners. These scanners are 32/16 bit devices and will generally only work with 32-bit OS. A firewire adapter connected directly to the thunderbolt works OK in both Windows 64-bit and 32-bit. but . . both the expresscards (firewire and scsi) fail to connect with code 12 errors. Can you please help me resolve this Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi eurostar1!
Welcome to the community forums.
Just to verify, when you connect the expresscards, is the drivers showing up in device manager? If yes, does it show working correctly?

Hello,I have a T580 P52s 20LB with a 500GB HDD, a ThinkPad T580 P52s M.2 SSD tray and a 500GB M.2 Samsung EVO 970 Pro.  I also have an M.2 to USB-C adapter.  Samsung Magician will not detect the SSD using the adapter so I used a work-around to clone my HDD (all partitions) to my SSD.  Afterward, I installed the SSD using the M.2 SSD tray but I got the boot device not found error.  My tech tried and got the same results. A third tech tried and got the same results.  Even when I had the third tech wipe the M.2, install it and try to do a fresh Window 10 install, it did not work.  I know the drive is fine because it works in other machinces.  I got my SSD tray directly from Lenovo and confirmed before purchasing and after receiving it that it is the correct part. I know the machine is capable of supporting SATA or M.2 NVMe for drive 1 but I can't seem to get this to work.  I picked up a SATA EVO 860 in case help from this forum isn't able to solve the problem.

Hey! First things first, I'm running an Aspire V3-772g laptop. After the recent Windows 10 update, I was having issues getting past the lock screen (took AGES to get to the point where I could input my password) and it had been a while, so I reformatted ('reset my PC' deleting all files) - this actually didn't solve my problem, so I used Rufus with a Windows 10 iso from Microsoft to delete all partitions and REALLY start fresh. Ever since, the laptop is running like a dream--in all but one respect. It seems like no matter WHAT I do, I CANNOT get my HDMI audio / TV to appear as an option in Playback Devices (yes, disabled devices is ticked). Looking in Device Manager, the High Definition Audio Device has an exclamation mark is throwing a code 10 - device unable to start. I've tried uninstalling it, tried installing all drivers from Intel's V3-772g page including chipset, updated my graphics driver / Realtek / Intel HD audio drivers... and yet, nothing. Ran /sfc, ran /chkdsk, nothing. I read something that led me to believe .NET framework might be part of the issue--and I did actually have quite a bit of difficulty getting 3.5 installed / functional, but I finally did...... and still, nothing!! I'm seriously losing my mind. I'm having to run my surround sound through an auxiliary cable into the laptop, which is just sacrilege and a fraction of the quality. If there is ANYTHING, ANYONE can suggest beyond the above, please do!!

My IDT audio works fine and my laptop's sound works fine, but when I hoop up my laptop to my TV through a HDMI cord I get my laptop's video output displayed on my TV but no sound from my laptop is output to my TV. I think the problem is because there is something wrong with my High Definition Audio Device. It has a yellow triangle next to it with a ! in the middle of the yellow triangle in device manager under Sound, video, and game controllers. And when I click properties on the High Definition Audio Device, it says, " This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful". Any help would be great. Windows 10 is CLEAN installed on a NEW HARD DRIVE. I DID NOT upgrade, windows 10 was clean installed from a disk.

Hi: Yes, that is the Intel HDMI audio device that is having a problem. See if this works...right click on it, and select uninstall. Check the Uninstall Driver box and restart the PC. Hopefully the HDMI audio driver will reinstall itself properly. If not, I have one other trick up my sleeve.

A:High Definition Audio Device - Device Cannot Start (Code 10)

Hi @JS2045 The problem HD audio device you are seeing is the Intel HDMI audio device that needs a driver. I looked around for a W10 driver for the hardware ID you posted, and can't find one. You don't need that device unless you want/need audio through the display port. The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support and driver page, but install it this way...so that you just target the problem audio device... Download, but don't run this graphics driver... http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4095873&swItemId=ob_127914_1&swEnvOid=4059 Download and install this free file utility.  64 bit is the second file listed. http://www.7-zip.org/ After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file you downloaded, and select 7-zip from the list of items. Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the driver to the folder name (sp64360). Go to the device manager and click on the problem Intel HD audio device needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way. Then reboot. If you explore the driver folder 7-zip created, and open the DisplayAudio folder, you will find the setup informa... Tried hardware troubleshooter which basically seems to automate the process of uninstalling and scanning.
I've tried removing windows media player 12 feature and adding it back.
I've tried deleting USB controllers from Device Manager and rebooting, it re-detects them all and still gets code 19 on the device.
I've tried deleting upper and lower filter values in the registry which I found out later is mainly for CD/DVD devices, that didn't fix anything.
I've tried removing and re-installing Windows Mobile Device Center and driver pack and that did not fix it either.

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.

Do you have Kaspersky installed? Kaspersky Filter driver caused that any USB device could not connect.

It is suggested to have a look at the following registry. Make a backup of it and remove the Upperfilters setting:

“Upperfilters” = klfltdrv

If the issue persists, please find a working machine and compare the registry settings.

I've just upgraded my 6 year old computer from Win XP to Win 7.

In Device Manager, there is an item with a yellow caution under Other Devices called "PCI Input Device". The Device Properties indicates Code 28. I searched both the Internet and the computer but couldn't find a driver.

I ran Belarc Advisor and didn't see any hardware errors.

There doesn't seem to be any more specific clues regarding the component causing this error and there also doesn't seem to be any hardware that isn't working. (at least not that I have found)

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this problem?

I have been having an issue with my flash drive being recognized by my laptop computer. When I initially start up my computer, it reads my flash drive. If I take out my flash drive and reinsert it, it no longer reads it. (It still makes the sound the the
computer recognizes it was inserted, but it won't open the drive.) When I go into device manger, it has that yellow exclamation point with this message, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device
driver is still in memory. (Code 38)". My cordless mouse has been working just fine.
I did troubleshooting and it told me to restart the computer. That helps for the first time, but then when I reinsert the flash drive , the problem happens again.
I tried to uninstall the hubs and reinstall but that also doesn't seem to be helping.
Any ideas?

Hi, I have a Dell laptop running Win XP Pro SP3, and I have a problem with my 2 external USB attached hard disks. They are both giving error “this device is disabled (code 22)”. Clicking on “enable device” in Device Manager, Properties gives message “Windows was not able to enable this device”.

They were both working fine earlier today, and until today I hadn’t had any problems with them. I still use dialup internet, and when I tried to connect to my ISP I got some error saying the modem wasn’t ready, or was disabled, or something like that. I’ve occasionally had something like that before, and a reboot always fixed it. However the PC froze during shutdown, and eventually I had to hold down the power button to shut it off – that has also occasionally happened in the past. When I rebooted the modem worked fine, but I then had the problem with the USB disks (the internal hard disk is fine). I have used the modem and the USB disks together in the past.

Rebooting again didn’t fix it. Booting into safe mode didn’t fix it. I am able to use a USB stick, so the USB ports themselves appear to be O.K.

I then booted the PC with my BartPE boot CD, and I was then able to access both USB drives. I copied some files from them to the internal hard disk, and then rebooted into XP again. The copy had worked O.K., but I still can’t access the USB drives from XP.

Any ideas?

I suggest you start off by checking the Power Management tab in each USB Port's Properties page to see if power saving is enabled.

So a few months ago I replaced my wireless card and started having problems with my bluetooth drivers randomly just shutting off and not working.a I tried back in January to get help on the forums for the problem but I didn't really get any answers. This is my new wireless card. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth.html At least once a day I get "Code 10" Device power failure. The only way to correct this is to either use the intel driver tool to repair the driver or restart my computer. There is also random time intervals between it happening. It could be twice in an hour or once in a period of 8 hours.  A fix that I tried that didn't help was I did a repair install of windows because I thought when I swapped out the cards maybe something got corrupted but that has not helped in the slightest.

XP Home, SP2.
Intro to the problem:
I work as a pc technician and the machine with the problem came in from a client. Apparently one day the network just stopped working. The technician that went on site took a space NIC with her. After failing to get the on-board NIC going she went into BIOS and disabled on-board LAN, then shut down and installed the PCI card. Booted to windows and installed the NIC using the driver cd that comes with it. The installation failed, with windows saying that there was some error during hardware installation and your hardware may not be working correctly. Going to device manager and getting properties on the card gets the title of this post. She brought the machine back and now I'm working on it.

I have enabled on-board LAN again and booted up, XP then has TWO network cards that cannot start, both code 10. I have with me the latest drivers for both network cards, but neither will detect the correct driver when I manually select the folder containing the driver. It says that it cannot find a better match than the currently installed driver. Having it search for a driver automatically also finds nothing. I have booted to safe mode and checked for old NICs that aren't removed, there are none. I have removed both NICs and restarted, they are both picked up again and then immediately sit with an exclamation mark. I then connected a USB NIC and installed it, that worked fine. I have a Logitech Wireless Mouse M325. USB dongle. I plugged it in and got a "device malfunctioned" error. I went to the Logitech website and downladed their 64-bit "SetPoint" software and ran it.  At first the mouse worked. But after about 10 minutes, Windows gave a message that the "device malfunctioned" and unmounted it.  When I look in the Device Manager, it shows it as Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) and if I look at the driver details it shows it as being attached to a Microsoft driver.  Now that I've run the Logitech install software, is there a way of manually assigning the correct driver?  Thanks.

A:Unknown Device (Code 43)

Did a Logitech folder install on the hard drive? It likely contains the mouse driver but frankly it should work fine as a standard mouse using the generic Microsoft driver. The Logitech software just enables advanced features like side to side scrolling. Do you have any issues with any other usb devices? If not I am suspecting there is a problem with the mouse itself.

I've just got my advent 4213 laptop back from the Techguys where it was getting a new motherboard as the other had failed. The video, sound and network adapter cards had all stopped working.

When I got it back, I tested it and found that the video and sound cards were now working fully but the network adapter. ( Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) was coming up with Code 10, the device cannot start. I found this in the device manager.

What should I do to make the device work again? I've tested all the drivers softwares and that isn't the problem.

I'm operating windows vista home premium 32bit on this particular computer.

Thank you very much for your help.

A:Code 10 Device will not start

Well, you got 2 choices really... 1 easy, 1 a bit more complex if you're not a PC guru.

The easy way... Take it back to the shop and have them fix it, you said you just got it back, right? Unless you did something foolish, it should be within warranty from the work they did.

The complex way... Download fresh and up to date drivers for your video, sound and NICs, uninstall all the drivers you have at the moment, reboot the laptop, once at the desktop, go back and install all the new drivers. Make sure that this time around, you install with "Run as Administrator".

Good luck.

XP Pro - Code 10, This device cannot start

When I look at "Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager", both Com port 2 and the floppy disk controller are marked with the yellow "problem" signs and the properties tab shows "this device cannot start (Code 10)". The printer is not installed on Com2 by the way, it's installed on LPT1.

For a while I could solve the problem temporarily by manually changing the Com2 IRQ setting, but now not even that works. The problem started when I installed SP2. Can anyone help?

Have you remove the problem devices from the Device Manager and then rebooted? Also, anything plugged into the USB's?

EDIT: Make sure all your drivers are up to date and compatable with SP-2 including your sound drivers. I think your problem may be related to an improper sound driver. Common with Compaq. Check HP's site for your model Compaq and download all the driver updates it has listed.

Hello and thank you in advance for any idea to solve my issue.
I use a Microsoft Surface Pro (1st version) and suddenly (I think it started after connecting a USB Hub with external power supply that never worked) when i connect most of my devices to the only one USB port i get a message "USB device not recognized" and in device manager i get error code 43.
The problem happened with windows 10 but i even did a reset to factory settings so now i have windows 8 (not 8.1) but problem still the same.
I tried many things that i've found on the net but nothing worked to me. Some examples:
1) I uninstall and re-install drivers from device manager and of course rebooted.
2) I scanned with "Troubleshooting" hardware and sound
3) I did something with registry that someone suggested and copy 2 files from system32 and then paste and replace to INF folder.
4) I run a specific command to cmd "Logman start USBForumTrace....."
5) I contacted directly with Microsoft support and they did a remote session and the final answer was to replace the unit but i'm out of warranty.

The only thing i didn't do and read that worked for many, is to turn off the computer, remove the battery that holds power and restart after 5 minutes for driver cache that needs to be flushed. I am not able to do that because the battery is internal and there is no hope to open the device it's too complicated.

Any other advice that may work should be much appreciated. I don't know what els... Read more

I came across this forum by doing a google search for "this device cannot start".
I have a HP Pavilion dv9200...the other day the DVD/cd drive quite working.
In device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the drive & when I go the properties for that drive it says "this device cannot start (code 10)"...also when I click "check for solution", it says "could not load driver software".
Checking for new driver doesn't work as it comes back & tells me I already have the best one.
It seems that there are LOTS of people out there with this problem. SOme seem to be having luck editing there registry. OK....I'm afraid to do that, but I may if it is the only solution.
Does anyone here have any advice? What about the new Service Pack for Vista available from Microsoft?
Thanks in advance....this is a new computer & I NEED my DVD drive

Okay let me lay out my probelm and detail everything i have done to try to fix it that has not worked.

Recently i purchased a Asix AX887728 Usb2.0 To Fast ethernet in other terms,
Sabrent NT-USB20 USB 2.0 to RJ45 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Network Adapter

So when i purchased the product i installed it onto my pc and everything worked fine, i used the device for 3 days no issues. Well i went to sleep last night woke up and started my pc. And the device was not recognized and that i had the Error device cannot start (code 10) As well in the device manger there is a yellow exclamation mark beside it So i tried multiple things.

- Reinstalled the drivers to the device/ Failed still got error
- Followed the Microsoft trouble shoot wizard/ Epic fail
- Took it as far as reinstalling a fresh copy of xp just recently, updated all my drivers and everything to date. Still got the DAMN error.

Im to the point to thinking this hunk of plastic was made to piss me off.

This is a display and image of the device i am talking about that has the code 10 error

So now im clueless what to do i know it can't be the hardware i mean i have not even touched it hardly since i plugged it in, and my pc is virus free and runs like new, Although i do remember a blue led light coming on and now it wont come on when i plug it into usb, i dont know if it has to function properly for the lead to come on or what.

I'm experiencing a very troublesome BSOD issue that I have been unable to solve on my own, or with the "help" of DELL support. The problem started three days ago, and has afflicted my computer an average of four or five times a day ever since. The name of the error is BUG CODE USB (minidump file included), which has led me to believe that it is related to a strange issue that popped up a few days prior to my first blue screen: a taskbar warning that the connected USB device was not installed correctly. The real mystery, of course, is that I don't have any USB devices connected when this warning pops up, and USB devices work fine in any of the notebook's USB ports.

I am running a 32-bit OEM version of Windows 7, Service Pack 1 on a DELL Vostro 3400, 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM

DELL Diagnostics, System Scan, and System Health Check come up fine.

I have recently updated my video card driver, though the problem did not start until several days later. No other changes have recently been made to the system. I am in Kathmandu for another month and will not be able to reload my computer, but it is my lifeline for work, friends, and family, so any help you all can offer would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Rae-Rae Johnson

There's just not enough info here for a full diagnosis.
The System Health Report states that Windows Update is disabled. Please enable automatic updates and then visit Windows Update and get any available updates.

Also, visit the Dell support website and get updates for ALL of your drivers (many are from 2009).

Please provide us with this info so we can make a more thorough diagnosis: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html

FYI - I've seen one other similar issue with USB lately - and I have to wonder about malware (because the debugger can't locate symbols for the USB drivers usbhub.sys and usbport.sys). Please try some of these free scans:

I have a Toshiba HL DT ST DVDRRW GSA-H30L in an HP D4650Y PC that has suddenly stopped working. The light blinks but the disk will not load. In the device mgr , there is a yellow ! and when investigated further, the info states:" A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)" I appears that all the drivers are there, but something else is locking it out. Any ideas ? Thanks as always.

Basically I have 2 Nvidia PCI-E cards on an Asus P5N-E SLI. One is a GTX260, the other a 7600GS. I run 4 screens off these cards (don't ask me why, its useful for the work I do ). The system is dual boot.

Windows 7. No problems ever.
Windows XP. No problems. BUT quite often the screens on the 7600GS fail to turn on, I go into device manager and it says "Device Cannot Start (Code 10)" on that card. Disabling and enabling doesn't help, and neither does rebooting. Eventually I might reboot enough times that it works.

The problem is very annoying, it's always worked and this has been a recent thing that it sometimes doesn't. My PSU is a Hiper PSU 780W, but I can't see it being a lack of power since it's been working fine up until recently.

Edit: So I just restart a 2nd time and its working properly again. It's completely intermittent and random.
