web browser malfunction

Q: web browser malfunction

Well, before few days I see that when I'm surfing on internet that some web pages ˝can not be displayed˝ or return to my home web page, cannot enter ˝Spybot search & destroy˝ home page and microsoft update page and some others security web pages. Before all that one day I instaled IE8 (and maybe something more) but I remove it, now I can't download IE6 or IE7 or IE8 because when I click on DOWNLOAD - that wbe page cannot be displayed (allways some kind of error 404, etc, etc). I completly check web settings (and there is lot of them, lower security levels in settings, added trusted sites, but still nothing) maybe activex control error? When I go to news web pages, facebook, nudity, and some others - all ok! But security of my PC is something what bothers me....
I have AVAST but when did not found virus I remowe it and instal windows one care (fortunatly)... I have few more spyware remove programs but they found few threats before few days and nothing, again same web situation... Malwarebytes found 2 threats in registry but all is situation stay like before....
Maybe Ccleaner program erase something from Windows data?
Still don't know: do I have virus/trojan/spyware... or windows error???

Preferred Solution: web browser malfunction

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I recently updated my SystemCare(SC) on my computer from SC5 to SC6. I notice once I was finished with the upgrade, I wasn't able to access my Army Knowlegde Account (AKO) any longer. What might be my computer problem?

A:System or Browser Malfunction

Using IObit Advanced SystemCare and other similar type utilities is a good way to trash your computer.

They can damage Windows and break programs and generate error/warning messages and wreak havoc.

Problem with Opera 7 browser and the tool button called WAND which automatically remembers passwords and connects you directly to web site without having to type in logon information each time. Am unable to use it logging on to MSN or other sites. I had it working well for a while and then did some clean up!! on uneeded files, cookies, etc., and must have deleted something needed for it to work properly. Don't know whether it is truly the browser of the MSN web site. Also have the same problem with the using the Wand to get on to TSG. Help needed. Thanks.

A:Solved: Opera 7 browser malfunction on Wand

Hello and welcome to TSG!

You may have deleted your wand passwords (if you went to File - Delete private data - checked the box on the bottom that says "Clear all Wand passwords").

Next to "Clear all Wand passwords", you will see a box "Manage Wand Passwords" -- try entering the passwords again.

If that does not work, you could uninstall and reinstall Opera (I've done it myself) and it solved my problems with the browser.

Also, you could try F12 while in Opera and identifying it as something else (MSIE 6.0, etc.) until the page works. I have to do that occasionally for different web pages.

If all else fails, check out Opera Knowledge Base and Opera Forums for more technical help with Opera.

I hope this helped!

Hi Guys

A few days ago, my free Edition AVG showed a trojan alert (Trojan horse Generic10.PWU, which it allegedly fixed) after i unzipped and installed a program. Since then, I keep getting error msg's that AVG launcher and WLLogin.exe stops working, every half hour and sometimes other programs like msnmsger. Besides that i can't browse in firefox or IExplorer (i can still browse in Safari and use MSN). And furthermore when i open IExplorer, it opens up fans with this address (don't know if it'ill do any good)
which it can't display, fortunately.
Now the virus alert have shown 3 times for the same trojan as well as something in the virus vault, AVG calls "Virus found Lop". AVG found 4 of those yesterday when i did a scan of the computer, all in Temp internet files dir except the last trojan which was found in C:\Users\Tr?ffel\AppData\Temp
So i ran through the self help tutorial you have here on the site and it helped get rid of the "fan pop-ups" in IE, but my computer is exeptionally slow even though i just upgraded its RAM.
One thing i could not do in the tutorial was to do the online scan, though i think that it was the site that has crashed and that it does not have anything to do with my computer, so i have scanned my computer a couple of times with AVG and Ad-Aware from lavasoft for spyware.

So, I don't really don't know where to go from here, i've googled it but that didn't do m... Read more

I've just run Eraser 6.07 for the first time on a Windows Media Center XP Service Pack 3 System overnight and now have problems with all my browsers.
No title bar is completely functional, whether it's associated with a browser or any other program. They display only the program's logo without the additional information normally shown. For example, IE 8's title bar no longer displays the "Windows Internet Explorer" title, nor does it show the name of the website currently open. Home pages for Google, MSN, CNN, Adobe and Oracle load quickly and normally. Home pages for Amazon, Weather.com, and Wunderground only partially load with the mouse flickering between the "hourglass" and "pointer" displays. Your homepage, http://eraser.heidi.ie/ loads fine, but ironically your support forum at http://bbs.heidi.ie/ will not come up (except for the Amazon advertisements running at the top of the page.
Opening the Windows Help and Support browser will allow searching for topics (system restore, as an example), but clicking on any search results has no effect.
Microsoft Office programs and notepad experience the same title bar problems, but otherwise seem to function normally.
Eraser 6.07 was set to erase unused disk space for drive C: It set to delete any other files or folders. The task status after completion was "Completed with errors".

I recently purchased an HP ProBook 450 G3. I am using two passport compact 1 TB drives with my laptop's two USB 3.0 ports. In normal use there is no problem. However, when I copy a lot of data from one to the other (or from one to the laptop's internal drive) the drives keep disconnecting. I know this because first I will get a copying error saying either the source or the destination is missing. Then I will hear the "chime" that Windows makes when a USB device connects or disconnects. Then the autoplay window for the Passport drive will appear. It seems that it spontaneously disconnects and then reconnects. I can continue using it for a time afterward, but it always spontaneously disconnects at some point, always when I am doing large data transfers.

I wondered if I have a poor physical connection---the USB plugs seem a bit loose. I checked if there is any vibration or movement that could break the connection, but so far there is no evidence that anything is moving. The disconnection always happens when a lot of data is being transferred, while the drives are sitting completely still.

Any ideas how to debug this?

A:Hard drive malfunction? USB port malfunction? Or just normal?

This is a hard situation to diagnose from a distance IMO. "Loose" is somewhat subjective, and barring serious abuse the only kinds of usb connectors & ports I've ever seen fail mechanically are mini and micro USB2 types.

I'd be inclined to suspect the drives first, especially if they are from the same family and were produced around the same time (the "bad batch" phenomenon). Have you tried to reproduce the problem on other machines, or with different drives on your machine?

I noticed in the past few weeks that my browser gets redirected a few times a day when I enter a url or click on a link. It's usually some bogus "anti-spyware" site. I was recently infected by some virus that looked on the surface to be an anti-spyware program. I think I got rid of it all, but I am still having problems with IE getting redirected. I just ran Malwarebytes anti-malware and all showed up clean. I also use AVG and that didnt show anything. Here is my HJ this log.

It happens in my photo program sometimes blocking out whole or partial pics. I can roll my mouse wheel up and down and it will disappear. It happens completely at random. I uploaded a screenshot to look at. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello all,

Well, to get right into it, my PSU conked out. I shut down my computer (Start > Turn Off Computer . . .), it didn't automatically turn off like it normally does. So, I tried the power switch, nothing happened. Finally, I flipped the switch on the PSU. Obviously, it was off now.
The next day, I went to turn it on, and it didn't. I tested the power switch, it was fine, so the next thing to check was the PSU. Took it to a computer service store, they tested it, it was dead. I sent it back to the company, they sent me a brand new one. And that brings us to today.

I installed the PSU in my computer, hooked it up to everything (mb, harddrive, video card, CD-Rom, fans). I pushed the power button, the PSU lit up (it has a lighted fan on it) and the fan went on, this lasted about a second, then it shut off. Well, then I went through step-by-step:
- Connected only the motherboard to the PSU - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard and the larger fan - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, and the harddrive - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, hard drive, and video card - turned on, stayed on, did not beep. (apparently it was beeping because there was no video output.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, hard drive, video card, and plugged everything into the back of the computer - turned on, stayed on.
- Connected everything listed above, plus the smaller fan, turned an... Read more

A:PSU Malfunction

Although there are things like power surges and lightning strikes that could kill a PSU, there is really no reason to try to come up with a scenario for what happened. Often they just die and it can be without warning. I think you are saying that now everything works. If the new PSU suddenly quits then you may have a problem that needs to be figured out.

The fan set up looks pretty standard.

Hello everyone, first time poster, so sorry if I mess up ^^

Anyways, I just got a new laptop, specifically a Lenovo 80XS0086IX Ideapad 320-15ABR. Initially it all seemed fine, but as I used it I noticed several problems: 1) it cannot remain in sleep mode for long. After a while, it just switches off abruptly. I have tried several combinations of lid closed/open, power cord in/out, but eventually the result is always the same. 2) When powering it on after these shutdowns, the trackpad does not recognize multiple-fingers gestures, requiring a restart. 3) The disk usage frequently goes up to 100% despite no ongoing activity. 4) Sometimes, pressing the power button to power it on results in the disk starting, then abruptly stopping, then restarting again several times, before the laptop finally starts. 5) The system sometimes freezes for several seconds, even the cursor stops, only to resume any input movement later.

I have tried everything in my knowledge: I updated the BIOS, the HDD firmware, installed all Windows updates, fresh-installed Windows, but nothing seems to work (although the HDD thing apparently solved the "always 100%" problem). I ran both Windows in-built check-disk and third party programs to check for errors on the HDD, but none showed up. I'd be really glad if it was something I can fix at home, since I really need this machine to study, so sending it to be repaired/replaced back at Amazon is my very last option due to time. Hope you guys can h... Read more

DEP processing is flaky. Setting /noexecute=OptOut and adding HP digital monitor to the exceptions list does not cause DEP enable for all processes.

No 'restart needed' popup is displayed....
?? CHROME, AVAST, FIREFOX all show DEP (permanent). All others DISABLED.....
?? setting /noexecute=AlwaysOn works, all processes DEP'd, BUT disallows HP digital monitor (can print, cannot scan or retrieve printer info).
I do have Administrator privileges but thought I noticed a popup (IIRC) re two items (processes?) not functioning, CIMV2? perhaps and one other. WBEMTEST checked for DEP 3 (OptOut), verified it was set (I forget the Superclass now, under root/cimv2).
Is this a Startup issue of some kind? Something not loading? GPEDIT under XP not helpful unless DISabling access to various options.
Thanks.... :-/

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with XP Home Edition on it. All of my drives and devices connect externally and I access them through 3 different USB ports. A week ago I began having problems with my USB ports.

When I turn on my laptop, the devices (a mouse, keyboard and printer) initially are recognized and run well. Then I hear the noise from the comp as if I unplugged a device and my mouse, keyboard and printer are all no longer recognized by the comp. Sometimes I hear the noise as if I plugged them back in, sometimes I don't hear that noise but get an error message saying that my devices are not working properly and need to be replaced. All of my devices are in reality functioning properly. There does not seem to be consistency in when the USB ports stop functioning. During this time I am not touching the connections and at times am not even actively using the comp.

Do I have a trojan virus? or are my USB ports beginning to simply malfunction?
Any suggestions would be really appreciated. I can't do much with a laptop that cannot save a file to a disk or print a file. I have ad ware and spy ware removal tools (ad aware, spybot search and destroy, spyguard) as well as an updated firewall and antivirus (zone alarm suite) running on the comp. No major risks or problems have been found by these programs.

Hi sunsandy4u and welcome to TSF,

Have you looked in the Task Manager to see if you have any Yellow marks by the usb hubs on the tree in the left pane? If so, that would indicate a driver problem.

My modem is usb and required a download into it for it to function properly. The software came with the modem. Also, try another usb port if you have one on your computer.

Hope this might help,

I have a current issue with my laptop that I would like some assistance on. When I go to play a computer game (such as DOTA 2), the CPU fan malfunctions a few minutes into playing the game and then intermittently switches off then on until I shut the computer off for a while. Hi jdendrin,

First and foremost, please post your computer specs. Posting computer specs definitely helps us troubleshoot computer issues more efficiently. What is the brand/model of your laptop? Do you have warranty on your laptop? It's possible that the fan inside your laptop is dying.

I recently had to rebuild my PC because I was unable to login into it in normal mode. It is not rebuilt, but it seems when I run updates it either freezes during the process or something. Last night, there were 113 updates that I waited for about an hour and a half to complete. The next batch there was 91. I left my machine on all night so it could do the 91 updates. When I went to bed, it was at 48, and when I woke up it was at 48. Now, after restarting, all I'm getting is

i was actually going to post a related question, and rather than clog up the boards, i guess i will post it here. I too have a mobo with only USB 1.1 (I guess since i doesnt say usb 2.0 anywhere in the manual), it has 2 on the back and 2 headers. I recently bought a usb 2.0 pci card as well. My question is, can a mobo with out usb 2.0 be able to have a usb 2.0 card? or will the usb ports act like 1.1s?

I also bought a media card reader that says it's a usb 2.0 interface, can i hook this up to a usb 1.1 header on the mobo?

Ok, this is kinda complicated. It started this morning. I was on the web when Trend Micro popped up a message that wanted me to allow or delete a change to my system. The file name was called geede.dll..so I googled it and came across a couple posts. Well they started of by saying running Vundofix.exe...which I did and it came back clean. Then the user was told to download Combofix.exe to the desktop and disconnect the internet and disable any antivirus software (Trend in my case)...so far so good..then the computer restarted..this is where I get into serious problems.

First, the computer won't reboot getting stuck on the "Windows is Starting UP" screen for 10 minutes. So I manually restarted the computer. Once my desktop finally loaded, the task bar looked weird, and no longer showed any thing besides the start menu, the quick launch icons, and the clock, the time format is still changed to 24h time even though combofix said it would change that back... even though programs can still be opened they do not display on the taskbar.

I restarted and the same thing happened. So, I tried to perform a system restore by going to c:\\Windows\erdnt\Hiv-backup\erdnt.exe...it restarted the computer but nothing changed...i'm still stuck with the same problem...so at this point I am kinda worried and decide that I should probably back up everything just in case...but I can't copy/cut (ctrl v) files or drag and copy files to the desktop or anywhere on the computer ... "chkdsk c:" never completes in Windows XP telling me "Detected minor inconsistencies on the drive. This is not a corruption", at other times tells me it's found errors with the file system (NTFS) and bitmap and advises me to run chkdsk c: /f upon restart. Upon restart, chkdsk completes without showing any corrections, Windows reboots then comes the blue screen of death showing "SESSION5_INVALID..." and at the bottom "0x000...71" and a bunch of "0x000...0".
In other words, chkdsk ruins Windows, In order to confirm this, I installed a new Windows then tried chkdsk c:/f, the same thing happened, the exact same blue screen of death.
If it's the HDD that's gone south, how do I confirm it?
Any ideas, suggestions or solutions?

What is the make of your hard disk.

For example, my disc is a Seagate and if I go to their website, there is an option to have them diagnose my HD online.

This is mandatory for me to save their report and include it if I want to have my HD repaired/replaced under warranty.

If your HD is out of warranty then there is still the possibility that you can have your HD checked online.

A good friend of mine was using her laptop (IBM Thinkpad A31 running WinXP) and spilled a very small amount of liquid (soda) on the Pause/Break-Scroll Lock/Print key block. A few minutes after, the laptop BSOD'd, giving her a 'HARDWARE MALFUNCTION' error and ***SYSTEM HALTED***. She also believes that she may have bumped it while attempting to clean the spill.

Subsequently, when she attempts to turn on the computer, the fan/power light come on (sounds as though it's booting regularly) but the screen remains black and there is an error beep sequence of 4 (short) beeps, 4 times over, and then stops (though the power light/fan remain on) like:

4-4-4-4, 4-4-4-4, 4-4-4-4, 4-4-4-4

This was perplexing to me, as it's no error code I've ever heard of. She believes that the error was caused by the liquid, but it was a very small amount, and was cleaned immediately.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

A:Laptop Malfunction

Well, soda is one of the worst things to pour in your laptop! I think at a minimum you need to have it partially disassembled to determine how much of that "very small amount" got into something critical.

I think she's very likely right about the soda, since it's very corrosive.
