I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just installed 32GB of the 2666MHz ram found from the official Dell Upgrade site and when I booted to bios it showed that my ram was 2400MHz. Is this normal and it just shows 2400 but performs as 2666 or is there something wrong

A:Installed 32GB of 2666MHz ram in my dell xps 15 9560 but bios shows it as 2400MHz

The memory controller is aboard the CPU - the memory speed is set by the CPU itself.  What model CPU do you have?

Hi everyone! Lenovo Vantage just offered me BIOS 1.28 on my P52. Reading the changelog, I noticed it unlocks the 2666MHz memory speed! So, I checked my system before the update and the memory was running at 2400MHz, as expected, because of "Intel limitations". After the update, I could confirm the memory was running at 2666MHz! A free performance update is always welcome :-) Martin

I was at Goodwill yesterday and I found an ECS K7SEM v1.0 motherboard for $6. Assuming that it works, I wouldn't mind getting an AMD cpu and some RAM to get this going as a multi-purpose additional computer for my apartment.

The original intent of this board was for AMD processor running at either 100Mhz or 133Mhz FSB. The manual for the motherboard says that the RAM speed cannot be less than the processor FSB. For example: according to the manual, if the CPU has a FSB of 133Mhz, then PC133 RAM must be used and PC100 RAM cannot be used. If a CPU has a FSB of 100Mhz, then either PC100 or PC133 RAM can be used, but not PC66.

This manual was printed in 2001. However, in 2002/2003, a new BIOS upgrade was created for this board to allow support for Athalon XP 2100 and 2200 processors.

I was looking at an AMD XP processor at newegg and realized that the FSB is 266Mhz, according to the specs. I always get confused about FSB ratings. Are you supposed to divide this number by 2 with AMD chips? Like if the FSB is 266Mhz, should I use PC133 RAM to be compliant with the statement in the manual about using RAM that matches or exceeds the CPU FSB?

Another question I had is related to the new BIOS update that supports the newer processors. Would I need to use an old processor in order to update the BIOS before I can use the XP processor? Or will I be able to update to the XP supporting BIOS with the XP processor already in the socket?

If everything goes smooth... Read more

A:CPU FSB frequency and RAM frequency agreement, and BIOS CPU support.

When an AthlonXP is advertised with a 266mhz FSB, it is actually running at 133mhz but its DDR nature makes it run as fast as a 266mhz FSB. Any 266mhz AthlonXP should work on that board provided it isn't above the 2200+ ( 1800mhz ).

Hi everyone,I've been using a Lenovo Y540 from last month and I have noticed a lag (0.5s to 2s) when I try to Alt + Tab and switch windows.Windows is up to date. Ensured the drivers are all the up to date from Device Manager.I've tried searching online about this and most people suspect and recommend to turn of Focus Assist and I've done that multiple times with no real solution. This seems to be an issue with many recent Lenovo machines. Has anyone here faced this issue and have any solutions for this?

Earlier this week I stood up while holding my Y540.  The power brick, which is quite heavy, fell off the desk and ripped the power cord out of the DC-IN power jack.  The plastic clips that hold the power cord in place were destroyed, and now I can't get a stable power connection anymore. I'd like to replace the DC-IN power jack on the motherboard.  The problem is I can't seem to find the part anywhere.  Lenovo won't sell it to me (it's an FRU only part) and I can't find anywhere online that sells an 81Q4 power jack. Does anyone know if there are other compatible DC power jacks I could use for my Y540?  I'm quite comfortable replacing parts on a system board, I only need to find the appropriate part.   Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, all. New member here. I was updating my friend's laptop using the automatic driver update on the lenovo site and there was a bios update listed, it installed all drivers and then the BIOS. After the BIOS update the laptop has been in an infinite boot loop, and I've tried everything. First I thought it was the HDD, but I tested it and it's not I even placed another one in.I took out the CMOS battery for a few minutes, took out the laptop battery, tried the whole hard reset thing and the Pin Button on the Side (Novo Button) and it just boots up the laptop, shows the Lenovo Logo and literally crashes in the same second and reboots again, I can't access the bios or anything. I tried F12, F10  plus power button, Fn plus R plus Power Button, holding the power button, I don't know how to reset the BIOS. Another thing is that the laptop clicks whenever it crashes and boots up again (a clicking/tick sound just once per crash). Please help.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

So it's not a huge problem, but after updating the BIOS on my T480 from V1.17 to the current release V1.24 the Lenovo Vantage tool still reports (on lower right corner of screen) that I have BIOS V1.17 installed. The update installed normally and I have verified that V1.24 is installed Boot --> F1 --> reviewed installed version. I thought you guys at Lenovo might want to check it out. I do have the current version of Vantage installed (latest version offered by the Microsoft Store for Win 10 Pro): V 4.27.32.0

I?m currently updating the BIOS of some Lenovo ThinkCentre M83 PCs and I came across a problem. The Flash UEFI BIOS update (provide by Lenovo) worked almost perfectly on the first PCs, despite it didn?t automatically open the console and started the flashing process.Anyways I did go on with my work. Almost all other PCs had the problem that when the second phase (yellow font)/ afudos.exe imagefb.rom /defans /capsule /b /n /r /sp started the afuwin.exe stopped working (it crashed). It seemed like the Update wouldn?t get done this way so I decided to try it with the USB Flash method, also provided by Lenovo, but it also didn?t work. It says in the second phase ?15 - Error: Secure Flash function is not supported on this platform? Last but not least I tried to update the BIOS with the CD-ISO but when updating with this method it says that the BIOS-Version is too old. Some information about the system: ThinkCenter M83Type: 10BE0003GEOS: Windows 7 SP1 64bitBIOS-Revision: FBKT73AUSBIOS last Updated: 01.April.2014 Furthermore Information what I found out:BIOS-Revision seems to not matter (same version but some worked some not)Doesn?t matter if BIOS is set to UEFI only or Legacy onlySecure Boot also seems like it doesn?t matter if its on or notWhen the afuwin.exe crashes it only writes a return codeI use the update provided by this Page from Lenovo (Update: fbjycpusa)https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/de/downloads/ds035753 Thanks... Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

Unfortunately I didn't know about that and was just naively letting the laptop go ahead with whatever updates it wanted. A few days ago, my 9470m Ultrabook automatically updated its BIOS. This was fine, as it has updated its BIOS before in the past. I went to do some things while it updated, and when I came back, the laptop had turned off. The charge light (the lightning bolt light on the edge of the laptop) was blinking white and amber and did not turn on when I pressed the power button. When I took off the battery, the light stopped blinking, and when I put the battery back in, the light began to blink again, but the laptop still would not turn back on when I pressed the power button. I've tried taking off the battery and plugging in the AC only, but still the light would just blink and the laptop would not turn on when I pressed the power button. I do not know what is wrong. The laptop had been working flawlessly until the BIOS update. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to any support. -Daniel

Hi, At first, please try a Hard Reset as follows. Performing a hard resetDisconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and SD media cards.Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain all residual power and restore default startup settings.Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not insert the battery), press the Power button, look for glowing Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) near the caps lock and num lock keys, and listen for sounds of a fan or other moving parts turning. If the computer starts normally after performing a hard reset, you are done troubleshooting. When the Notebook restarts keep tapping the f10 key to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults (this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. I am waiting to hear back from you. !------------------- Please click the KUDOS star on the left to say 'Thanks'. Please mark 'Accept as Solution' if it answers/solves your problem. Thank you-----------------------------------------------------------------!I am an HP Employee.
