'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

Q: 'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: 'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: 'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

There is a software which often changes the proxy settings so I decided to config the internet settings registry right to reject the proxy settings. But When I decided to delete this software and return the rights back, I suddenly found that I can not change
the proxy settings manually!
The detail is that I change the auto proxy url, to let my pc use a pac file and I don't want any softwares to change. However, when I decided to give the rights back and try to change the url back, it never success, and even the same when i'm sure I have
cleared this url in the whole registry, but it back, as it never changes!
I check the registry rights twice or more to make sure that the rights has given back, just like it originally should be. But it never works.
So the result is I have to clear and reinstall the WINDOWS 10 AGAIN!
Never should you save such information both in registry and somewhere I don't know! Or you should let these stuffs out of the ** registry!

I have cable so I'm pretty ignorant about dial-up modems. The following is from X-teq UI tweak utility:

"WARNING: Using a high maximum speed may adversely affect your modem's performance. While in most cases you can experiment with different speeds, there is a possibility that you could damage your modem. You have been warned!

If you take a look at your modem properties in Control Panel (Open the Modem applet, click on your modem, choose Properties and then click on the General Tab), you'll see that your modem has a maximum speed of 115200bps, or lower.

If you have a UART-compatible 56k modem, then you can increase this speed up to a maximum of 921600bps (900Kbps). The plug-in won't change the speed automatically, it will simply allow you to set it to a faster level using the Modem control panel applet.

De-activating the option should restore your modem's settings to their original state should you have problems."

Does anybody have any comments on this? Are the possible benefits worth the risk?

A:Overclock Modem Settings?

I've never noticed any damage to my 56k modem from setting the port speed to its highest setting. I suggest you just experiment and see what you can get the fastest speed at. Obviously its all upto you, and I guess the reason they gave a warning is so they can't be blamed for any damage. But to me I'd say the chances are quite low. But it's all up to you.
Also you may not notice a huge increase in speed and it may not be worth changing. Sometimes it can slow it down. All I can suggest is experimenting.

I am currently running Windows 7 32bit with a Intel Q6600 2.4ghz processor. What I want to know is how would you go about setting it up in the BIOS? I have the AMD Athlon 62 X2 5600+ 2.80GHz processor, and an ASUS Narra2 v2 motherboard running the Phoenix 5.13 BIOS.

I want to change my CPU's clocks to 13x @ 1.300 volts and 321MHz FSB to bring it up to 3.03GHz, but there are no settings in my BIOS for any overclocking, not even RAM.

Are they hidden or something? Is there anyway to overclock it without having to manually change the jumpers?

Also I should note that this computer is an HP Pavilion a6230n.

If this is a Stock Motherboard from HP, it is doubtful that you will be able to overclock it. The Motherboard is custom made for HP by Asus. Therefore it will have a Custom Bios.

So I just finished building a new PC, I've got an i5 4690k in an Asus z97a motherboard.

The Z97A comes with software called "AI Suite 3" that I used to configure an automatic overclock.

I decided that I didn't want to overclock, but I could not figure out how to revert back.
So I:

Uninstalled AI Suite 3
Applied "Default" settings in the BIOS
Installed AI Suite 3
Uninstalled AI Suite 3 with Revo Uninstaller

Still, my i5 is hovering around 3.8 mhz according to cpu-z, with a bus speed slightly less than 100 for some reason.
Am I missing something? How do I get rid of this overclock?

A:Solved: Can not remove overclock settings

Are you really sure it is overclocked? The turbo freq is 3.9 so that may be what you are seeing.

Next any overclock should be done manually in the bios AND checked for stability using prime95, IBT or OCCT. Software overclocks [IMO] are less than worthless.

I know you said you loaded defaults however have you cleared cmos? If not, do so then see what speed your cpu is running. Note you should see a wide variation from a low or no load condition up to 3.9 when running prime95.

Hi everyone, this is going to be my virgin post (for the very first time!) so hopefully I'm doing this in the correct forum.

So my question is rather simple really, but any additional info you guys have could be helpful. I'll state first that I'm pretty new to overclocking. I've assembled this computer myself over a year ago (closing on two years soon) and I think back then I had overclocking in mind for the future, but it's been a bit long now and I've lost my memory. I think I might've had some help when choosing parts, however I did put the thing together myself. Nervously I might add.

To put it short I have no idea what sort of a cooler / fan I should be getting on this processor to make it stay cool and hopefully not too loud. Also I'm not sure if I need anything additional to make sure the OC is a good idea, like perhaps an even juicier PSU or better RAM. I'll also list my graphics card if that makes a difference.

I should note that I did infact try an OC. I got up to 3.3GHz but with over 70 degrees it soon become unstable in games and crashed, so in fear of doing harm to it I reverted back untill I would get a new cooler. I thought this forum has some great advice I could ask here. You guys seem to know what you're talking about.

Here's the setup:
Mobo: Asus P5Q
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8200, 2.33 GHz, 4MB S775 - Stock cooler
PSU: Xilence, 700W, ATX 12V V2.2, 13 cm Fan REDWING
Ram: 2x 2GB 1066M... Read more

A:Overclock help needed - Q8200, fan, FBS, BIOS settings?

What's affordable, how much are you looking to spend?

For a cheaper cooler I really like the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. Another good one is the Cooler Master Hyper 212.

Something to keep in mind is that overclocking is not going to free up CPU cycles. It'll make things run faster but if an application is currently taking 100% of your CPU, overclocking is not going to clear that up.

I have a small problem.
I tried overclocking my GPU.
The settings are applied in MSI Afterburner. (I also tried Ntune)
But it isn't applied on the GPU itself.
I tried to OC the GPU core clock to 600 Mhz, but it is stuck at 405 Mhz (Shader clock is stuck at 810 Mhz, and memory clock is stuck at 405 Mhz as well)
According to GPU-Z my default clock is: GPU clock 520 Mhz; Memory clock 500Mhz; Shader clock 1230Mhz
But in the sensors tab it just shows 405;405;810 again..
(So it's underclocked?)

One weird thing I noticed is that the max. GPU load is 99% and not 100%... why?

Also added two attachments (screenshot & specs)

My temperatures are fine (I think), since the max. temperature is 95 degrees Celsius or something. And the card becomes 45 degrees celsius on full load. (measured using GPU-Z and Speedfan; fully loaded using FurMark (1024x768, no Anti-aliasing) And the GPU core is 37 degrees celsius when idle.

Thanks in advance,

Hi all :)

I've been lurking around here for a while and gleaning some handy tips (such as the entire Raid0 setup thread which was too detailed to be natural ;p)

Usually, I'll just look around here or google for stuff, but can't really find anything helpful oddly.

I've been (amateurly... oOo so amateurly) building pcs for a couple of years now, for myself, friends etc. I'm not a total noob, but not so far off. Anyway..

Everytime I build a PC, I end up installing Windows, all the patches (now SP2 etc) The Firewalls, AV, my usual resident apps, (nero, daemon, rivatuner) drivers and games.

Having recently invested in a DVD-RW and loving it just fine, I was wondering if it's possible/practical to make an XP boot DVD and tweak it to install all my assorted crap.

I've read som stuff about network and multi OS boot dvds, but they didnt seem to fit with what I wanted. I highly doubt I'm the first person that this has occured to and I'm probably missing a 90 foot banner on a web page that tell me exactly what I should be doing.

Anyone care to point me in the right direction? :)

Hyper-Transport Support Yes
Virtualization Technology Support Yes
Multimedia Instruction MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, 3DNOW! Professional

Thermal Power 65W

My first problem is this - I installed one 2gb stick and went to test out some settings. The HIGHEST clock it allows me to put the memory is 400mhz!!! (even though this is 500mhz memory).

The CPU is set at 200mhz x 14.5 THe multiplier can be lowered but not raised, and the FSB can be changed.

Right now the current settings are 200mhzx14.5 and cpu-z is showing my memory as 362.5mhz I can't understand why I can't raise above 400mhz in the BIOS. In the manual it says the motherboard supports DDR2 533/667/800 and 1066(by AM2+ cpu). Is this not an AM2+ cpu?

What is the ideal setting I should put for the multiplier , FSB (HTT), and memory to give the best performance?

Second issue is that this board has on-board video, but only lets me select 256mb for 'IGPU buffer size" in the BIOS. I guess I can't go to 512?

Sorry but I am new to AMD's new CPU line-up.

A:Overclock settings for an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (Brisbane) CPU with DDR2 1000mhz mem

I think I now see that my cpu is AM2, not AM2+ and thus the highest memory supported is DDR2-800 (400mhz). Should I lower the multiplier and raise the FSB? I heard odd multipliers (its on 14.5 now) are not good. Is this true?

No. Restore will restore ALL files and settings to a previous state. On the other hand, if you wanted to restore your system files, then you would have to do a repair install.

Your problem seems to be with "Replay Music" and not Windows XP. I would try reinstalling the application.

I'm using a Netgear router which is configured to email logs to me once a day. We have been away from this residence with internet and router off for a few months. When we returned, I was having trouble with internet access, and at one point it looked like the router might be the issue. I had tried restoring settings from a previous backup as part of troubleshooting, and I failed to take a close look at those settings. Internet access was restored after some efforts from myself and the ISP. I have one Windows 10 laptop, 3 apple devices, and a printer, all wireless. I have difficult passwords for router admin access and wireless network access. Guest network is off. I have never used port triggering or port forwarding, have never been involved in torrents. Remote access to the router has never been on.

For the past few days since we have been back at this residence and using this internet connection, I saw items in the router logs that I hadn't seen before and I now wish I had paid more attention. These are:

Hi all,

First post here. I've been using, or should I say tweaking win 8 for a few day now and there are a few quirks that I can't seem to wrestle down. I prefer my OS very plain, no effects, animations etc.

The two (or three) features that I'm having problems with right now is

1) Delete confirmation dialog is enabled even though it is unchecked in recycle bin's settings.

2) Aero Peek is enabled even though I have disabled it in Performace Options. If I rightclick at the right far end of the taskbar, peek at desktop is greyed out. If I rightclick the taskbar, and select properties "use peek..." is unchecked.
DisablePreviewWindow in registry is set to 0.
In Group Policy Editor there is no "Desktop" folder.
I ran the bat-file at Peek at Desktop - Turn On or Off in Windows 8, but now I get a tooltip on top of the preview
Since gpedit.msc is not included in this win 8 version I installed it according to this guide: Windows Cannot find Gpedit.msc Windows 7/8/8.1 - Fixed
What am I missing!?

3) Tooltips can't be disabled in this OS either

A:Enabled features despite changed settings and regkeys

Do a bing search for 'God Mode for Windows 8', and create a desktop link. It will allow you to change a multitude of system settings, without having to search for the right menu or do all the right clicking and experimenting to find where to do them.

Hi all,

First post here and not sure if this is the right forum. (crossing fingers)!

It seems that the first Monday of the month, my system resets back to the date that MS pushed out IE9 to my PC and installed. This brings back the 'old' desktop and settings.

Each time this happens, I have to reinstall my printer & set to default, reactivate various program icons, etc.

This is becoming very tiresome as today was the 3rd time this happened.

I am in hopes that there is a GURU out there that can advise on a solution to this.

Many Thanks in advance!

A:Windows 7 Home Prem. x 64 reverts to previous settings

Do you keep installing IE9 ? It won`t install unless you want it too. Change your update settings to check for updates but let me choose whether to install them. Check for updates and this time hide the IE9 update. Right click on the update to hide it. Wait and see if it reverts again.

In my opinion there is no reason to install IE9.

For those who don't mind sending telemetry to MS, skip this post. For all others...

I happened to be in Task Scheduler for something completely unrelated, and noticed MS had setup tasks to send telemetry about my computer to MS, even though I had opted out of doing so when I installed W7. These tasks were located in the "Customer Experience Improvement Program" folder under Microsoft/Windows branch in the Task Scheduler Library tree. Digging into this, it turns out a KB update issued 4th quarter 2015 ignores your privacy settings and sets up tasks to send telemetry anyway. (See Forbes article link below.)

Forbes Welcome

To check this on my machines, I went to the original setting for CEIP and saw it was indeed set to NOT participate... you can see by going to Control Panel -> Action Center -> click hyperlink at left to "Change Action Center settings", then in the new window, look at the bottom for the hyperlink that says "Customer Experience Improvement Program setting" ... and see if it is set to NOT participate (as mine was).

Now go into Task Scheduler and into the folder of the same name under MS/Windows... and see if there aren't 2 or 3 enabled tasks... in the description in the lower part of the window, you will see the tasks are for CEIP and involve sending telemetry.

After disabling those tasks, I also found three other folders setup to send telemetry, apparently (as per the article above and others sources I read) from other KB... Read more

There are ways to restore defaults to individual applications or OS components, but I am not aware of any "global default restore" capability. The closest I know of is with XP where you can roll-back the system to a previous checkpoint if the right options are enabled. But, there is even a problem here... if you don't know what you're doing you can "un-do" legitimate changes to the system. You may have better luck by figuring out how to use "permissions" to restrict what the users can and cannot update.

Hello Wan, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If this helps, this is what I found for this:

Valve Corporation uses .GCF games cache files both with its Steam computer game online content delivery platform (used for downloading computer games and content from the Internet), and with its Source 3D game engine (used to render realistic 3D graphics in their games). Valve Corporation also developed the game Half-life (along with its sequels) and the .GCF files is sometimes specifically associated with this game, although it is entirely possible that .GCF might be generated by any of Valve Corporation's games..

If you have Half-Life or another Valve brand game, then reinstalling the game to repair it without uninstalling it should fix the file association also.

Hope this helps,

Looking for default settings as they were during installation. Whether there may be somewhere on my drive or can de downloaded from the web in the part that is independent of hardware?

A:Looking for default settings

Hello R063rt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Anything particular that you were wanting the default registry settings on.

If not, then the only way is to do a clean install, or possibly a repair install, to have everything default.

Can I change the default settings for Font and Font Size, and the Page Margins in WordPad and Microsoft Works 2000? If so, please tell me how. I am getting tired of having to manually change the settings every time I start a new document. Thank you, Robert

A:default settings

I don't believe this can be done in WordPad.

However, in Works:
Change Works Default Font
Selecting the default font in Microsoft Works is a simple matter. Open the MS Works word processor and in the menu bar to Format | Font | Style. Click on Font and Style and a dialog box pops up. In the dialog box, choose your font by highlighting it, then highlight the font size that you prefer. Select a color if you choose or leave the color on auto. Move to the right side of the dialog box and click on the Set Default button. This font choice will appear every time that you open Works. If you are changing the font for a single document only then click on the OK button. Click to expand...

Q. Every time I create a new document, I want it to follow a specific style, such as using default margin settings. How do I do this?

A. To specify custom settings that apply to each new document, you should create a blank document with those setting, and then save it as a template. To do this, use the instructions below:

Create a new document and apply any settings you want in your new documents. For example, if you want all new documents to have a .5-inch margin, apply that change in the Page Setup area.

On the File menu, click Save As.
Click Template.
Type a name for your template. To use this template for all new documents of that type, select Use This Template For All New Documents.
Click OK. Click to expand...

Using this second bit of advice, you can change both the font ... Read more

I bought two new computers today for my business, both had the same hardware and software with windows 8 installed. I noticed that one of them they have some toolbars on the taskbar that the other one doesnt have, on one of the pc's there is an address bar labeled "Address"
The other PC didn't come with it activated by default, just wondering if this is normal. both these computers are brand new and identical. Maybe someone fooled around with it before sending it to me

A:Does windows 8 have default settings?

If they are truly identical, maybe someone turned one of them on at one point (and didn't turn the other one on).
Most computers are sold with tamper-proof tape holding the box closed - did yours have this?

In most cases, identical computers will have identical software.
The exception here is if the OEM has changed things during manufacture and is using a different image.
