Disconnect Option screen disappears!!!!

Q: Disconnect Option screen disappears!!!!

Windows 98 Computer (Dell)

Outlook Express 6

Dial up modem internet connection.

Problem:

When shutting down Outlook express , the option screen to disconnect or stay connected disappears very quickly before you have a chance to click an option.

Dial up stays connected and has to be disconnected manually.(By right clicking icon on task bar and clicking disconnect) If you forget to do this dial up stays connected and ties up phone line.

Yes, I have the disconnect when no longer needed box checked.
I also have the disconnect if idle set to 10 mins.
But we need the option screen to stay up long enough to click an option.

Please help!
Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello!
I have a blutooth speaker that I use with my laptop. When paired, the OS (Win 8.1) identifies it as headphones and uses the headphones icon. I don't like that; I want to give it my custopm name and use my custom made icon for this device.

When I change name and icon, all works as supposed as long as the device is not unpaired. But since I sometimes need to pair the device with my telephone, I have to re-pair it when using it afterwards with the computer. And then all my customizations are gone.

How can I get the OS to remember my device and apply the nice icon and name I have prepared for it?

Thanks!

Dear All
I have been at this for months and cannot figure it out, as well as find any solution or hint to what a potential fix might be.

It started after applying the 2017 October Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64 Windows Update. After the reboot of Windows the WiFi did not work. In the connection list there were no potential WiFi spots to connect to, although the WLAN network adapter was is status enabled. I assumed it was the driver but I already had the latest from Dell (Intel Centrino advanced N-6205). I have this laptop for 6 years (Dell Latitude E6520, Win7pro x64), never ever had issues with any network Adapter.

Not being able to find anything I returned to the restore point before the Windows Update and everything was fine and working again. This got me intrigued and I started digging.

On weekends I performed my experiments on a cloned HDD and I came to the following discovery. The same non-working WLAN WiFi issue occurred for ANY and ONLY the Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64, for ANY following month after and including October 2017, even up to today.
[WindowsUpdates.JPG]
Any other Security Update, .Net or KB updates does not produce this issue.

The result of this can also be seen in the accompanying images of before and after.

Hi All,
Tried to find a similar issue in the forums first. Forgive me if I this is a repeat afterall.
I got an Optiplex 9010 I7-3770 SFF (VPro) used desktop recently to put into my cloud in the lab. Normally I simply check the cover again (AMT #1) and move on with the MBEx selection after F12 during boot. This one is not working as expected. Here is the sequence of events:
1. Power on the computer and F12 to get the boot options/list.
2. I can see the Intel Management Engine BIOS Extensions option there. I select and press ENTER.
3. Screen disappears, but comes back now "without" the Intel Management Engine BIOS Extensions option! At the top is states that "Note, some options have been removed as they are no longer valid.".
I have not seen this before. IF it is disabled, why show it...
But in any case, the question I have is, how can I get this option to work so I can provision this box using Intel AMT/MBEx settings. The machine is enabled for MBEx (AMT #1 on the inside chasis cover).
The BIOS revision for this box is A14. I may need to update it as well. Though I am going to wait for any responses before doing so.
Thank you all.

8.1 start screen is blank, unfilled after an offline install. No news, no pictures, no blah blah. I want my start screen to always look like this. I want windows to never update an app or get info of any kind. I WANT XP BACK! Excuse me... help me get one of these things please. I've searched until my eyes bled. I can't find a solution to make the start screen stop telling me things. Clicking on the Windows store to turn off app update does not work until you are online. I want to turn it all off offline before it litters my stat screen with garbage. And yes i boot to desktop, i still want it gone, never to update again. Any other anti-update propaganda will be welcomed.

A:win 8.1 disconnect start screen

What is your reason for not updating? Keeping Windows up-to-date is how to fix issues your having. Is there a reason you stay offline?

I would recommend you download and install Classic Shell to fix some of your issues:

Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

It will give you a start menu and allow you to boot to the desktop.

On most computers, doing this will allow you to output the display to another monitor.

Hi, I am working on an Acer Aspire, Pentium D, Vista, 2GB ram. After about 45 minutes, the screen blanks out. Have to reboot to get it going again. I ran Malwarebytes, it found 19 errors. I thought this might have solved the problem, but no. I also then changed monitors, but the problem is still there. I cleaned out the case, the 2 motors were really clogged up, I thought it might be heat related. Then I ran a memory test and it stopped working again. It has 2 memory chips, I have removed one and am running the memory test again. Am I going in the right direction? Or is there any other ideas?

Firstly, you should try to uninstall and re-install the programs
Secoundly, You should try to use a different monitor
Thirdly, you should try to uninstall and reinstall the video/graphics card driver, as there has to be some sort of link, so doing that may break the link

I heard the usb connect/disconnect sound far less, and hadnt had any blue screens in over a month, but now it's back. I've run malwarebytes and it isn't finding any malware on my PC. Hello, I have a HP pavillion Dv9308nr laptop, hooked up through s video to my panasonic plasma as an external display. This issue did not happen with same exact set up before I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from Vista ultimate. So it has something to do with windows 7. Heres what happens. Every time I open a new folder, application, file, or web page the external display flashes. I can tell it is disconnecting for a split second because my TV shows the input notice on the screen as if I just switched to that input. This also happens randomly every couple minutes or so. I looked this up on google and found that the Transient Multimon Manager can cause this and it said if Im using the external display only and not switching back and forth that I should disable TMM, which I have done. I think it might have something to do with the graphics drivers compatibility with windows 7. When I try to install the recommened driver through windows or Nvidia it gets all the way to the install and then says not for this OS. Other than this issue Im loving 7, and since I cant go back to vista without a clean install Im stuck trying to figure out whats causing this, and if theres anything I can do about it. Thanks in advance for any ideas and suggestions and God Bless.

A:Screen flash/ disconnect on external display & laptop

UPDATE: Ok, this makes no sense at all to me, but it worked. I decided since I was getting graphics driver compatibilty error message when I did windows update to try to roll it back. So I did this, and the screen got worse, but it showed that the driver was the exact same one, same date, same edition. So I did a restore to previous point. Fixed the new screen issue, then went back to the rollback again to see if it would rollback this time. Rebooted, screen looked ok. Checked the driver date and issue, still the same one. But the flashing is GONE. I have no idea what I did. Ive rolled the graphics driver back in the past and it showed an older date and older edition number. But this time it stayed the same but fixed the problem. Anyway I created a new restore point which Ill use if the issue comes back.

Switching of fast user switching or using the classic logon style didn't solve the problem. How can this be solved?

Hi all

Wandering if someone can help

Ok - recently did a fresh UEFI install of Win 7

All was working ok, except I noticed that my monitor - Dell S2716DG randomly flashes black - happens completely randomly - I checked I had the latest NVidia drivers for the titan x, and I also checked by rocking the tower if maybe a connection was loose - but didn't show any signs of the problem when I moved the tower.??

The second thing is my US keyboard randomly wont connect - i.e when I get in to Win its as if the Keyboard is unplugged - I try plugging in to another USB port - still no luck. Then I try another port but also try resetting the computer, but the computer just hangs continuously - I have to physically hit the reset button. After doing that the pc restarts and if im lucky the keyboard has connected.
I have another keyboard and it does exact same thing.

I have a funny feeling its something to do with the Chipset drivers but is there anyone that can help me out? I tried going to Asus and getting the Chipset driver from them, but when I went to install it said I had a newer version, and did I want to install anyway>? I clicked yes but it just did the constant loop/install thing again.
Everything is set to auto in 'Device installation settings' too?

The computer wont install any hardware/drovers for any USB ports - it continuously just searches.
Edit - the computer won't shut down at all now. I have to physically switch it off at plug. I also tried installing a d... Read more

Hey there, new here and need some help. Here's what happened:

I opened internet explorer and typed in a google search and hit enter and it popped up a new instance of iexplorer instead of just searching in the current window as usual. Then, links I clicked on opened new windows which is not the usual setting. When I clicked in the middle of text on a web page it would highlight everything. Strange little things like that.

So, I clicked start > Turn Off > Restart and nothing happened; it just went back to the desktop. Pushed the Windows key and it wouldn't open the start menu. Finally I had to do a hard shut-off.

I waited a minute and booted the computer back up when it stopped at the login/password screen as usual. I typed the password and hit the Enter key and it just deleted the password and stayed on the page. So, I retyped it and clicked with the mouse on the green arrow button with the same result. Laptop built in mouse button did the same thing. Eventually it just froze entirely and I could not even type in the password box. Also, the little help icon on this screen would not bring anything up; it's like all the keys got remapped to different functions.

The only recent updates were the automatic Windows updates upon shutdown earlier today and the comp worked fine after booting up after that the first time.

Any thoughts?

I'm on a Dell laptop with XP Home.

Thanks

Hi all:I hope that this is the right board for this problem, even though it may not be primarily a "Touch" issue.  My problem is that I keep losing my pointer/cursor on my HP laptop. Here are my specs and details of the problem based on a set of questions that I found on another thread: What make / model computer? HP Pavilion 15-n216us What operating system? Except for restarting the laptop, the only way that I can get the cursor back is to go to Personalize/Themes/Mouse Pointer settings. I then have to close the Mouse Pointer settings windows (clicking OK) while shaking the mouse. How is your mouse connected to your computer? Wireless but as stated above, it also happens when the mouse is not plugged in. One screen or two screens? If one, have you ever used two? One screen, never two. More information:1) The cursor is not set to disappear when typing.2) I read that this could be a problem with the Touchpad, so I downloaded the Synaptics Pointing Device driver for my laptop from the HP website. Your issue isn?t described very well.

What do you mean exactly by: ?Mouse disappears right of the screen and bottom in black bars at the top??
Do you mean the touchpad or cursor?
The notebook?s touchpad supports the Gesture control feature (Multi Touch) and this feature could be configured in touchpad settings:
+Control panel -> mouse -> Device settings tab -> Settings+

There you can find also the option called ?Edge swipes? which opens the Charms bar, app Switcher, and Application bar just by moving finger from the edge of the touchpad in towards the center.

In such case the cursor would not be visible.

Lately my pointer is disappearing after i login from sleep or locked computer.

I had this problem in the past but it got solved after i restored my PC, now it came back to haunt me.
I am guessing some updates disrupted with the mouse cursor (not an expert opinion).

I've tried many things but the issue seems to be persistent.

Here are some things I've tried with no results:

Changing the pointer options (hide while you type, pointer trails, ctrl to highlight) and combinations of them.

I tried using different pointers (Black, White, Black small, etc)

Also tried using troubleshooting the software changes, sfc /scannow, clean registry with ccleaner, rebooting (many times).

It seems to be a problem with no concrete solution.

The only solution that I found is (Clt-Alt-Del) it changes the screen and the pointer appears again, if I lock the computer it is gone once more.

If somebody can help i would appreciate it.

thanks

I hope someone can help. W10 (64 bit Home) has been working OK on this laptop but recently I have been able to open the settings screen for only a micro-second. Having found people having the same problem I have tried running SFC several times, as suggested, but it says it found an issue it could not resolve.

Again following instructions on the forum I tried running DISM with an iso loaded and this hung at 40% for hours (overnight). I could not find a solution to this, but someone posted their CBS log and was given a solution to the original problem.

I do not understand what to look for in the log file, but there are several lines that mention an error. I attach the log file (zipped as it was too big for the forum), and if anyone can help I would be grateful.

Thanks
Peter

A:Settings screen only flashes up then disappears - SFC and DISM issues

Please open an admin command prompt and run the following command (copy/paste this command)

Code:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
On your desktop a file called sfcdetails.txt will be created, please upload this file.

When I go to change my resolution, it changes the resolution but it adds these black borders around the edge of my screen making my very smalll 13 inch into about 9 inches. It does this in the my computer section.

I want to be able to play older games, but because there is no way to change my resolution I am having trouble.
I read that on my graphic card, which is a Intel 3000, that I should be able to choose a option to scale to screen, or fit to screen... But I do not have that option.
in the my computer resolution settings My screen shrinks f I change it to anything other than 1366 by 768
How can I fix this?

I am using a dell 3330 Lattitude Windows 7 any help is appreciated. I have never had this issue on other computers.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi my Lenovo Thinkpad t440s screen goes blank for moment when i connect and disconnect the power cable i have tried with updating drivers but it did not work :/

A:Lenovo Thinkpad t440s screen goes blank for moment when i connect and disconnect the power cable

I believe this is due to a setting that changes the refresh rate based on power type. When plugged in to AC power, the refresh rate is 60Hz and on battery it is 50Hz. The switch always make the screen go black for a momment. On my T440s, I right click the screen and choose Graphics Properties , then Power, then on the left side of the screen, "On Battery". Then I disabled "Display Refresh Rate Switching". Hope that works for you, Happy New Year!

For the last two weeks i have been getting random pixelated display (picture attached)....

This pixelated problem is fixed on reboot,
i have scanned the complete system using extended test using dell support assist and no errors were found,

I don't know what I'm infected with or how to fix it. Sometimes my cursor disappears and I have to turn off the computer - it won't shut down normally. At other times, my browser disappears. Once it happened when I clicked on the back button and it always happens when I try to go to ebay.com. Thanks for any help.

An Oracle Form is launched as a Java Applet in IE11. Ideally the user should not be aware of parent browser window but when the form launches another popup (eg adobe, MS office) window the parent window then comes to the foreground and hides the java applet
window - confusing for the user when they close the adobe or office application window!.  This is with regards to Windows 7.  With IE version 8 this was all worked ok and window behaviour was logical for the user.

So this started a while back right after updating to W10.
I can no longer use the duplicate screen mode on my laptop, with my TV, via HDMI.
It was working before, with W7.
In the graphic properties the only options are Extend, show oly 1 and show only 2.
Win+P brings up the projector menu, where I can select duplicate mode, but that puts my laptop in projection mode, with a 4/3 display and there is no output through the HDMI.

Anyone has any clue on how to fix this?

P.S. Graphic driver is the latest, the issue was the same with all versions.

I have installed Windows 7 as a dual boot with my previously installed XP Pro. The new install seems fine, except there is no boot option screen when I boot the machine -- it boots into Win 7 with no option for my "previously installed version" or whatever its supposed to say.

The only way I can get back into XP is to change the boot order of my hardrives (the 2 systems are installed on separate physical drives), but then I don't have the option to choose Windows 7.

Did I miss something during the install? Or is there a simple way to edit the boot manager to see the option screen?

XP is installed on the 1st partition of my 1st disk -- Win 7 is installed on the 1st partition of my 2nd disk.

I tried EasyBCD (in XP), but I get an error message when it starts saying it can't find Vista (I don't have it). Should I be using EasyBCD within Win 7 instead?

there is another app built into win 7 called bcdedit that does much the same thing and is easier to use. These are the instructions for its use. BCDEDIT - How to Use

No matter what I try I cannot get anywhere on my Pavilion Laptop (17-e020us) in boot up other than the Choose an Option screen.  All choices picked at that screen does nothing.  I go to each command and I can't get a command prompt and anything that involves a reboot takes me back to Choose an Option.  I cannot boot from the screen either from other devices or other operating systems - they take me back to Choose an Option.  I cannot use the recovery option because it says there are no administrator accounts and I need to be signed in to recover the computer - even though there was only 1 account on the computer. Ran diagnostics and there is nothing wrong with the hard drive, memory, graphics, or CPU. I tried to boot from a CD but the computer does not boot even though the internal CD is the first in the boot list.  When the computer starts I hear the CD spin up and then the computer boots directly to the Choose an Option screen.  I have tried many different CDs that work on other computers - so it is not the CDs. Computer was orginally Windows 8 but updated to WIndows10.  Everything was fine and the computer was shutdown normally and the next time it was turned on - it was to the Choose and Option screen. Any idea of how to get the computer to book to CD and/or the hard drive?  Any help would be much appreciated.

A:stuck on option screen

To boot from a cd -immediately after powering on start tapping Esc key. This will bring up a menu where F9 Boot Option is a choice. Tap F9. Use arrow key to move down and select/highlight cd/dvd drive. Tap Enter key.
