Dell XPS 15 giving electric shock on its metal body and also on other parts of house such as metal tap in bathroom when laptop is charging

Q: Dell XPS 15 giving electric shock on its metal body and also on other parts of house such as metal tap in bathroom when laptop is charging

Hello, i had bought the XPS 15 laptop approximately 5 months ago from philippines and right now i am in india. When i am charging the laptop i get electic shock when i touch the metal parts of the laptop.
But recently i discovered when the laptop is charging i get current from other parts of the house as well such as metallic bathroom taps and metal grill of my house.
I tested it using tester so its not some assumption but real current.
So please provide some guidance on why is this happening and why is the current flowing in different parts of my house when laptop is charging.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Did you get any solution?A lamination on the body may prevent the tingling sensation, but won't solve it technically. Also, i fear it can cause trouble to the electronic components.

I've got a really strange problem.. My computer will randomly shut off or not turn on sometimes. Once it "short circuits" it won't turn on again for a while - sometimes an hour, sometimes all day. At first I thought it was overheating, but when I was messing around with it, I found that if I unplug the HDMI cable after it shuts off, and sometimes just touch the metal of the HDMI cable to the metal mount (not the actual port) of the HDMI port it will turn back on, but not all the way. The fans will start going, but if I then plug the HDMI cable back in, it doesn't show anything on my monitor.

Can anyone explain this strange behavior?

A:Metal on Metal Short Circuits?

Firstly did you bench test everything before installing into the case?

Are the standoffs in the correct place on the case and are you sure that no extra standoffs are under the motherboard causing it to short to the case?

Something is obviously shorting I would disassemble the machine and reassemble it paying attention to where you install the standoffs and for foreign objects that may have fallen behind the mobo. might be worth bench testing it first to figure out if anything in particular is causing the problem.

Your psu should grounds the case and motherboard so you want to ensure that your wall socket isn't damaged and has a working ground.

Okay I can't remember off the top of my head does this faceplate come with the board or the case? Does anyone know where/if you can buy these seperately? I have a board with no faceplate in the MB box (its an open box missing 3/4ths the stuff but board works like a champ!), I have a case with only 1 faceplate from the old board, the faceplate it has is not the same as the board layout of the board I now have.

I just want it not to be a big open gap for dirt to get into.

I've recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Z830-10 from PC World UK. I'm experience constant electric shock when my wrist touch the laptop body while charging with the adaptor. No problem when it is on battery.
Does anyone having similar problem?

After some research on the internet, there are some report about laptop with metallic casing when the manufacturer supply with 2 pin plug which does not have earthing.

Other company have replaced their problematic laptop with 3 pin plugs for all their customer. My adaptor is indeed with 2 pin plug.

Could the shock by lack of earthing in this case similar to Dell problem?

Hi

I would really recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country to check the parts and to fix this issue.

A friend of mine is an Z830 owner but as far as I know he did not experience any similar issue.

Hi all,

I bought a laptop at Comet 32 Days ago which seemed to work fine until today.

I was using it to import music to iTunes and write out a document in Word when all of a sudden I got a shock and saw a spark and the screen went blank. I turned off/on the laptop and it seems to be working :S but I am going to return it.
It's brand is Acer if it means anything - anyone heard of anything simmilar with these laptops?

Question is should I expect a Repair or am I rightly entitled to a refund / swap for another laptop ? because I am very wary of this one and the brand now as this is the only Acer product I have had.

A:Electric Shock from Laptop

Depends on where you bought it whether they will replace or repair, thirty days most places, or you may need to contact Arcer and ask for a replacement. Tell them you have concerns that the arc may have damaged something else yet may take awhile to rear its ugly head.

Can a laptop charger give an electric shock? I accidentally got the plug on my arm and I felt a little shock feeling. The charger is 19V at 2.1 amps. Last time though, I have touched it with my hands and I didn't feel any shock.

A:Electric shock from laptop charger

Sometimes the following can happen. You are charged up with static electricity and you get a shock touching a device that may or may not be grounded / earthed. Or when you unplug an electronic device there can be a small shock voltage from the collapse of the magnetic field called a BACK EMF

So for the last week, maybe less, I have noticed that whenever I lift my laptop off a surface to move it somewhere else, there is this unnerving falling-metal, chinking noise that occurs quite loudly from the body of the laptop. It feels like there is something physical or material clicking downwards, or falling, like a metallic Jacob's ladder, and it occurs most frequently when the laptop is tilted upwards or downwards while it's being moved.

Sometimes the sound lasts only for a moment, other times it really feels like something is clicking down the entire width of the laptop body.

The laptop seems to be performing just fine, and I have not noticed anything new or irregular, but nevertheless the sound is alarming and it's made me a little worried.

Should I take the laptop to a workshop and have them check it out? Or do you think it's nothing to worry about?

Information on my laptop, in case it will help: Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC, Windows Vista, Intel Core 2Duo CPU, 32-bit Operating System. I believe we have had the laptop for a little over 2 years now.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

A:Solved: What is wrong? Strange falling-metal, clinking noises from laptop

You may want to get it checked out ASAP. If it is a loose screw or other small metallic object, one of these days it may just accidentally short out two points on the motherboard while it is powered up and burn up some parts. Even with the laptop turned off the object could short out the internal electronics related to the battery.

Hey guys, could use some advice here.A user of a computer at work today reported getting an electric shock from a VGA cable, she said the cable had come loose and tried to put it back into the monitor but got an electric shock. For safety reasons the computer has been disconnected. I'm not sure what the problem is here, it's unlikely to be the monitor right? Is it most likely a problem with the cable or the PSU?Any advice would be great, thanks.

So i was about to start up some Battlefield 2 and noticed my audio wasnt plugged into my bass speaker. The plug was in the PC but not the bass speaker.I grabbed the audio plug and received a small electric shock. My computer then shut itself off. Now it doesnt boot up. I get power...HD's, Fans all working. I just dont get video or the power-on beep from the motherboard. Ultimately im probably going to have to do some trial and error on parts but I was hoping if anyone could provide any feedback as to how to remedy the problem.

My motherboard shows a green light. i'm assuming all is well with the board. not sure though

A:Electric Shock = No Video

search how to test PSU
the main plug that goes to the motherboard
they way I remember it the green wire and the black next to it short them out
have a meter on the hard drive power plug see if you get 12 or 5 volts from any pair yellow and black or red and black
do this quickly as the PSU is not meant for prolonged short here actual is a TTL high low signal.
it do sound like you fried the psu rail or the motherboard is toast

When u tried compatability mode which one did u use. For some games running in XP mode wont work either so you have to keep going and try each one. I've had to run a game in Windows 95 compatability even thought the game officially only runs on XP. Go figure.

I have both addons running fine but it was so long ago that I installed it I cant remember if I had any problems or not. If I get chance I'll have a go at reinstalling them and seeing if anything happens.

They do not detail what it would be but I can tell you this; it will not be the Deja Vu mission as that is exclusive to fans that have been around for the past 15 years since Metal Gear Solid for Playstation 1.

Hi, I have a wifi problem that I need help with if anyone could please?

I have sky broadband and run my pc and laptop wirelessly off it.

We have recently erected a metal shed in the garden, just outside the kitchen so not far from the house.

The intention was to have it as a pc and games room, with a playstation set up and a laptop using the wifi connection from the house, but have now discovered that the wifi will not go through the metal of the shed!!

Can anyone suggest a way of getting either a wired or wireless internet connection to the metal shed?

I have a spare wireless router.

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks

A:Wi-Fi won't penetrate metal shed

Yeah metal creates an unpenetrable wall for Wireless connections, it bounces off it really easily.. Your options would be to buy a Directional Wireless Antenna and direct it to the Shed, point it at a Windows or an Open Doorway..

Wireless Antenna's:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicati...c.asp?CatId=374&name=Antennas and Accessories

The signal needs somewhere to enter, once inside that metal shed it should bounce around and find what it needs..

Other then that you would need to dig and place a wire under ground that connects to a splitter/hub, and branch off to each device from there.. however that is not generally a convient way at all, since you would need protective cover over the wires as well as it to be decently deep in the ground, then you have bugs and anything that digs that could damage the cord..

Hope this helps.

Is there any kind of small antenna that would be on the outside of the metal building and pass through the wall to another small antenna or would I need a outside antenna then a router on the inside ?

I want to know if there is any way possible the current issue I’m facing can be resolved once and for all or I have to forever get stuck with this issue.
Facts
Currently, up to this day, I am still facing the electric shock issue. Not only me, other people who use the machine said the same too. It’s annoying to the point that whenever I use the machine I will always feel stress especially when typing. There is no satisfaction.
This happens normally when the machine is fully charged and is connected to the power socket. When I unplug, things will be more relax as I will not expect to feel the shock issue during typing.
Dell has helped me out by changing the motherboard many times and changing the power adapter but the issue persists.
This has been going on for so long. I emailed the service team if they can just replace the machine with a new one but unfortunately, this request was ignored.
Therefore, the question is how do I solve it this or should I just accept this unfortunate issue that persists till today.
I went through a lot of issues with this machine in the past. I am frustrated but I was patience since throughout that time I was still in university I have the time to wait. Now, two months ago I just graduated and just started my full-time work. I just want Dell to help me solve the issue once and done.

(The laptop original power supply doesn't have a ground socket). I have also a new Dell laptop with metal surface and there is no electric shocks with it.  Is it possilble that a 2016 Lenovo laptop will have an "Electric Shocks" issues ??? Thank you,Alon

My laptop was purchased one year ago and it had been working fine until lately I have been experiencing frequent static shocks up to 3-4 times a day when using it during the past week. I called the HP customer support team and I was told that such situation is completely normal and they refused to have a check on my laptop.  While I agree that an occasional static shock might possible be normal when using an eletric device, I don't think frequent static shock is normal at all. In fact, in all my years of using computers of various brands, including Lenovo, SONY vaio, Dell, I have never experienced things like that. I don't understand how the customer support team managed to find an excuse like that. I doubt that the HP sales team would dare to tell a customer that it is normal that HP product releases static shocks up to 3-4 times a day. If they say so, no one would ever consider buying the product because it is not normal, not safe, and not comfirtable using a product like that. Also, I have been using my HP laptop for a year already. It hadn't had such issues until recently. So I believe there must be something wrong with it and I consulted the IT service department of my university, Currys PC world knowhow team in store, and a local computer repair service company. All of them believe that the situation I described is not normal and I should stop using my laptop and I have to had my laptop examined as soon as possible. I finally had to have my power ada... @Crystal222

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

hey people. just downloaded the original Metal Gear Solid PC game, very excited except that everytime I try to start it, a black box appears....then vista says "game failed during previous initialization, game starting software rendering mode..). Immediately after I press "OK", the black box enlarges but then disappears.

I have tried using windows compatibility with every version of winodws listed. I've tried using 256 colors, different resolutions, etc..

If anyone can help...please

thanks

I'm trying to play Metal Fatigue on Windows 7 and I'm haviong severe graphic errors with both OpenGL and DirectX drivers for it, the game gives you a choice between the 2. I think the problem's probably driver related and I only really want help with the opengl one because the directx issue has been posted many times on the internet and never fixed.

Here's an image of the game with DirectX. Gameplay is displayed without errors, but the toolbar on the side is distorted enough to make the game unplayable. There is no lag, even at 1600x1200.
Here is an image of the game running with OpenGL drivers. nearly all textures are gone, a grid is shown on the terrain, and the game is extremely laggy, especially at higher resolutions. It's technically playable, but only on 640x480

I have a Dell XPS 410 with 2GB RAM, 2.4GHZ Quad Core, Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS with the latest drivers and dubious OpenGL support. OS is Windows 7, but the game shows the exact same problems as on Vista.

I understand that problems with Metal fatigue have been posted in many places online, but I haven't seen and solutions to the problems yet.
Help would be very much appreciated, this is one of my favorite games of all time.

Hello everyone,
New to this and sorry in advance
I work for a Boiler Tube Co.
We use software Metal Trax, hand in hand with Pervasive 10.
Long story short, updated our software / data. on Friday, all good, etc.
Go in to use it and when I try to access my quotes, orders, PO's , etc. get a RTE 13 - mismatch, (names specific fields with errors , aka "amount paid in" - a field in our SO table, a new field at that which came with the update from software.
Exact message: MetalTrax
Error Number :13
Error Message: Error reading sales_orders_headers.amount_paid in
VATable.GetFld
Type mismatch
Module:frmEnterSO
FunctionopulateFields

I can see these fields etc in the Pervasive control center but not sure what is wrong / what to do haha.
Anyone familiar with this, again, I am OK with computers but no a wiz
ANy help would be appreciated.

Brandon

A:Pervasive / Metal Trax - RTE 13 mismatch

Welcome to TSG!
First I think the best place for support would be the software vendor? The update should have 'retro fitted' the existing records in your data base to be compatible with the update.

In general a type mismatch error indicates you are trying to perform a mathematically function on Character or Null data. Also joins to tables with missing or invalid data in the join will produce this error.

Since you mention the field is 'new' I suspect the field is null or empty. If you can, populate the field with a 0 or something numeric on your specific quote and test to see if the error is resolved.

I can't recommend a solution, I know nothing about the application, but this might point you in a direction to specifically ask the vendor for a long term fix.
