Will a new internet service provider clear my IP address history?

Q: Will a new internet service provider clear my IP address history?

For example. Let's say I visit this website. When I come here my IP address can be looked up by the admins. If I change internet providers I should now have a new IP address, right? Now, here's the question. Will the owners of the website I visit be able to see that I am still the same person? If I were to manually change my IP, it would still show all the ip addresses that have been used under the one account. But, with the new provider will the new IP address still be linked with the old one?

Preferred Solution: Will a new internet service provider clear my IP address history?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been having some with problems with my internet such as slow page loads, pages freezing, and sometimes pages dont load at all (I have DSL). Also, these might be a minor problems, but I cannot clear my history and sometimes, the cursor turns into an hourglass after a website ahs already loaded. I ran my norton virus scan and found 3 that could not be fixed. They are all Trojan.ByteVerify, and the names are Beyond.class, Blackbox.class, and VB.class. I quarentined them all since they couldn't be fixed. I have also ran spybot and adaware, and cleared all of the problems (just some cookies in adaware, nothing in spybot)

You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Download the newest version at http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe and run it.

Before you give us a new log here, if we gave you instructions for a fix, please do the fixes first and then post the new log with this updated version.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KRC%...20Analyzer.zip and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in 'y' if you agree. The 'result.txt' file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. You don't need to post the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

When I try to clear Internet History in Edge browser, I get the following message: "Some data couldn't be cleared. Please try again.". This is happening on 2 pc's and "trying again" does not clear. The item not being cleared is Browsing History, I have determined by process of elimination.

I have run SFC, DISM, Disk Cleanup, Windows Defender, Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, MRT, and CCleaner and the Systems are clean and indicating no problems. In searching the Internet, I have found some posts regarding the problem, but with no solutions suggested working for me. (Clearing Internet Explorer, Increasing the Disk space to use, etc.)

Has anyone had this problem and found a suitable solution or know of a possible reason this is happening?

After a storm a couple of days ago, we lost all internet service. I contacted my ISP (over and over...) and have been told that their remote checks reveal that we ARE geting service.

All the lights on the cable modem are on. The operator was able to 'refresh' it remotely.

We have tried connecting two different laptops directly to the modem (bypassing the WIFI) with an ethernet cable, and neither was able to access the internet. We have tried with 5 wireless devices (after reconnecting the wireless router) and cannot access the internet; however, the wireless network DOES show up.

A windows 8 diagnostic indicated that the computer was getting no IP address.

The ISP is adamant that this is OUR problem. I will be happy to provide more details, but I am not a techie and don't know where to start. Can anyone please help?? My thought is that the modem is not working properly...

Thanks!

A:I have No Internet Service though my Provider says I do

Sure does sound like a modem problem.

Have you tried a long power cycle (unplug the modem for 30 minutes, then plug it back in) or a hard reset (see the modem manual)?  Do you own the modem or is it provided by the ISP?  If the ISP owns the modem, then insist they replace it.

I thought I would try to come into the current century and maybe switch my internet service provider from the one I signed up for in 1992 (wow, the Internet was available way back then . . . ?).

As I begin to shop around, I got to wondering, if I allow my current provider service to lapse, will I still have access to my current email address or will I need to change? I guess I've heard differing opinions on this. It seems unreasonable for my provider to maintain my account, since those inbound/outbound message (or maybe just the inbound ones) reside on the provider's server, until I access them, right? Alternately, it almost seems like more trouble to close that email account, than to just leave it, on the hopes that the customer might return one day.

Clearly, I don't want to continue to pay for two providers, and one just to maintain my existing email address. What's the definitive word on that?

A:Changing Internet Provider - Email Address Cancelled?

The definitive word is that it depends. AOL, for example, now allows you to keep your email address. With most ISPs, maybe all other ones, your email, web site, etc., are gone the day you stop paying.

We need a bit more information.

Is it wireless or do you connect with a cable to your router.

What version of windows are you using.

Is this a laptop or desktop with a built in wireless card or are you using a dongle.

Please provide the make and model of the PC.

Apart from that you have started this thread in the section for introducing yourself, it should be in Storage and Networking.

Hello All,

I share an internet connection with 4 other people. We currently have Rogers Ultimate - 50 Mbs up/ 2 Mbs down. We use Rogers built in wireless/modem all in one. Some people are wireless others wired.

When there is no one on the network other than me, I can get speeds of 50 Mbs (speedtest.net)

But when more people connect it can drop to as low as 0-5 Mbs with no P2P/streams/downloads running on their computer.

I have a feeling that it could be an issue with the router. Is there a possibility that by them just being connected to the network, our bandwidth speeds drop? Does it matter the type of router we use?

When people do use P2P, streams etc will it use up all the bandwidth it possibly can or only what it needs? I am wondering because it feels like that when I run my P2P clients, my internet is the same weather its 20Mbs or 50Mbs.

Thanks for all the help!!!!

A:Internet Bandwidth Issue - router? service provider?

No, just being connected would not cause this, unless these people have viruses. P2P is a problem because most ISPs monitor it, and the ISP itself might be cutting you down for participating. But in general Im thinking either someone is hiding something, someone has a virus, or your ISP has caught on.

Hi,

I always delete history in by clicking wrench menu >> settings >> clear history >> from beginning and tick all options..

I just noticed it has still stored all histories of mine for many days that I can see when I click wrench menu >> "history"

I tried deleting again but still it was there.

I managed to delete it finally manually by deleting the userdata folder in the path C:/documents and settings/users/username/local settings/application data/google/chrome/user data

But I wonder if this is something virus in my computer or a bug in browser itself.

Have you considered using ccleaner to do that stuff? I wouldn't touch google chrome if you paid me. Which is funny because my employers use it but I personally would not at home as think it is very flaky, very unsecure and buggy.

So it would not suprise me that there is some sort of bug which is not deleting the history but I cant really help you as I dont use it. I am sure others can though.

I have Windows XP Pro sp2 and use Internet Explorer 7.

In Internet Explorer, on the address bar, you can click the down arrow at the right end of the bar and this causes a Drop Down List to appear, that shows URLs you've recently typed in and gone to. Can this list be cleared and if so how and is the information completely gone even though you can't see it?

On the Google toolbar, which I added, it saves recent searches you've made. But at the bottom there is a link that says "Clear History". You click that and everything is gone. I wish it was this easy for IE's address bar. Is this deletion also absolute, even though you can't see it readily. Can the searches you've made or the URLs you've typed in the address bar, be discerned?

Thanks,

royeo

A:How to clear the memory of the address bar in Internet Explorer 7

You can use the 'Clear History' and/or 'Temporay files' options in IE, but that just produces a Windows deletion. As I understand it, a Windows deletion merely places a 'tag' at the beginning of each deleted file which tells the OS that the space formerly used by that file is now available. The information contained in the file will not be gone until that area of the hard drive has been overwritten several times by other files (and even then some info may be recoverable if sophisticated forensic software is used).

Windows also stores details of some activity in things called index.dat files (although there doesn't seem to be any good reason why it should); http://www.acesoft.net/delete_index.dat_files.htm These files are in use all the time Windows is running, but you can get a free viewer from the link at the foot of the page and see what sort of detail is being held. If you Google 'index, dat' you will find lots of information about them and links to viewers and programs that will delete them.

I myself use CCleaner on its three overwrite setting and have never had any problems but check it out for yourself; http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ (Most people suggest that you don't use the Registry cleaning feature). The main thing to remember is that when CCleaner has run, the information is gone, almost certainly for good!

I also delete things called User Assist files, but that may just be paranoia on my part; http:... Read more

Also, I notice that some of my contacts show something in the history pane, while others with whom I've had recent contact do not. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a bug? My wife's computer shows history going back weeks, while mine only appears to have history of a day or two. Another inconsistency. Why?

Howdy

try this...

click start then run then type regedit click OK...

in the left pane navigate to this key and click on it...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

in the right pane you should see the urls you have typed...right click and select delete on the one you don't want...

be careful in the registry and make a backup before you start

if your asking about the list that appears to the left of the screen when you click the history button...you should be able to just right click on the one you don't want and delete it

i know how to clear the history of what i looked at on the internet bbut my husband always still seems to know what i loooked at. how is he doing that and how do i fix it

A:Clear History

Just clearing the browser history does little. There are still traces of your web wanderings all over the system, so it is hard to guess what specific method he may be using. There may even be software installed that tracks where you have been. If you are hooked to a router, there may be records stored there. There is all sorts of free software available with the ability to find visited urls. Sorry I can't be more optimistic. THere are some web sites that allow one to surf anonymously, that is, you surf the web through one of their web pages, so all that should show up in your history is a record of visiting that site. You might try the free services on this site (the free service is very slow):http://www.anonymizer.com/I am not sure what traces it leaves behind, but if he is still able to get the urls of sites you visited, I would suspect a keylogger. If he can't, then he is pulling the information from any number of other places on your computer. For instance, if you have an anti-virus application with a built in firewall, then it will keep track of sites visited also.Edit: It turns out that the URL I gave you does not seem to have an online component anymore..or at least I couldn't find it. This site may be much simpler:http://proxify.com/ It is pretty zippy.

Internet explorer will not allow me to clear the history. I have run Search & Destroy, Adaware and TDS without finding any problems. This problem arose after I burned a back-up CD to my external burner using Ahead Nero Nero Express. Pripor to begining the burning process, a window popped up saying Nero Express had found some changes in my settings and was making corrections. Any Ideas?

A:Cannot clear history

Howdy!

Try this:

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Let us know the results.

All the websites "in there".

Where exactly is "in there"?

Do you mean in the address line? If so, that's part of Autocomplete. Tools > Internet Options > Content Tab > Autocomplete

I occasionally find that my internet history won't clear (select 'tools' + 'internet options' + 'clear history'). I have Windows XP, but have seen the problem on Windows 98 as well. On W-98 I have rarely seen a condition that will not allow history items to be cleared individually ( right click on item and delete). I can go to the history folder and clear , but that takes too much work and I hate work! Thanks for any help.

A:History won't clear

I have had this problem to. I figured out that in my case it was AOl instant messenger causing the problem. I found that if I turned of AOL IM that I could then remove the history. Also I believe that any program that uses IE such has Kazaa can prevent the History clearing if its running in the background.

A:Can't clear history

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Run Index.dat Suite now and go to Tools->Settings. Then make sure to check the following: Cookies, History, Recent Documents, Swap File (if you have Windows 95/98), Temporary Internet Files and Temp Files. Click Save at the bottom. Then click on the Find button. Let it search. Then click on the second button on the top. This will generate a batch file. Click Next->Next->Next and it will tell you that after the next reboot/restart the file should run by itself and clean out the temp folders. To make sure it's cleaned out, go into My Computer->C: Drive and double click on the run.bat file. After that you may delete that file if you want.

A:IE wont clear the history??

If you mean the URL's are still in the drop down address bar.
Close IE, then open the registry. Make a backup or system restore point first.
Start> Run> type regedit and hit OK.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
Click on TypedURLs in the left panel and delete all but the first line in the right pane, should be Default others should be url1, url2, etc.

Hey all

I need help clearing my history list while using IE. After I went to clear history, and turned auto complete off, two URL's keep popping back up no matter what. One is a news story from CNN, the other is a CD from Amazon.com.

I can't get rid of them, and it drives me crazy to type an address and have the sites that I visited nearly 6 months ago show up.

Any ideas?
