Router stopped passing internet

Q: Router stopped passing internet

My Netgear R6220 spontaneously stopped passing the internet signal from the modem. I have verified with the ISP that the problem is not the modem, and checked that the router is still broadcasting wifi, albeit with no internet. At the time this happened two computers were plugged into the router via ethernet, and only one dropped off the internet initially. But once I rebooted, that was it.
So far, I have rebooted the modem and router, hard reset the router, uploaded new firmwear for the router, run all the Windows 10 diagnostics and checked that the settings are for automatic ip addressing.
I've looked at several similar threads, but nothing quite matches, and I believe I have tried all the fixes I've seen. I don't think the computer itself is an issue, since it's working fine with the modem, and two computers were affected, but it's a Dell XPS with i7-3770 processor and 32 GB of RAM
I'm using straight connection to the modem now. Any help is appreciated.
here is the result of running ipconfig when the router is plugged in:

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a bit of a confusing setup. There is Internet being supplied through network cables to my computer, and another Internet connection from a Wireless connection. So I have no problems getting Internet to my Windows 7 computer. That is the easy part.

What I want to then do is pass it along from my computer on a second wired network connection to a Wireless Router (D-Link, DSL-G604T) to provide a wireless Internet access point. I haven't done it just yet (plan to purchase that extra network card soon), but I would like to know if this is possible, and how to do it. Will it work somewhat easily using Internet Connection Sharing?

Also, I don't mind if I have to keep my computer constantly on for it to work. I keep it on a lot.

I have a P1 GEN2 OLED. While the internet is flooded with complaints of the OLED screen itself, the thunderbolt 3 port of my P1 GEN2 magically stopped working for no reason.  I have been using the laptop with an external display ever since I got the laptop. All went well. Suddenly from yesterday, the external display starts turning into a blue sreen with "NO SIGNAL" shown on it.  I had a windows cumulcative update (KB4532693) and windows security update (KB4524244) yesterday and I suspected that the update might be the culprit. I rolled back the OS. No change. Still NO SIGNAL.  I searched this Forum. Played with Thunderbold 3 menu in the Bios. Everything was enabled and every single option of "security level" was tried. Still NO SIGNAL.  I checked Intel Mangaement Engine software. It is already the latest version. Reinstalled it. Still NO SIGNAL.  I checked Nvidia driver. Latest version already.  In sum, the problem is: the thunderbolt port is still able to power the extenal display but just simply does not pass signal to the external display. HDMI port, however, still passes signal if use an HDMI cable.  I want to give it a shot here to see if anyone has experienced similar issues and how they sovled the problem before I call Lenovo technical support, the staff of which does not seem to know more than some people here on this Forum.

I run a web server from my laptop, and my IP address (location) gets updated via DynDNS.org servers.

My notebook is always behind a NAT-configured LAN, and I have configured the router firewall to pass port 80 service requests to my IP (usually 192.168.x.2, where x is maybe 0 or 1 or whatever...I use NetSetMan for location based setting). Note: the DHCP server is configured to stay away from static addresses in the private LAN.

Most routers have their own port 80 service, the configuration interface, accessible by hosts inside the LAN.

I don't have a problem with port 80 service requests coming from the WAN getting passed to 192.168.x.2 host running the web server.

BUT, users in the 192.168.x subnet requesting service from within the LAN do NOT get delivered the web page from host 192.168.x.2, but instead the router's configuration interface, if they use the host NAME. Of course, if they use the host IP address, they get the content.

What is happening of course is that if anyone uses "http://mywebserverhostname.com/", it goes to DynDNS.org where the IP is resolved to the address a.b.c.d, the WAN IP address of the router I am currently connected to. So the http client bundles the packet to the destination a.b.c.d:80.

The users INSIDE the LAN get the router configuration interface web page when they type in a.b.c.d:80, but not users OUTSIDE the LAN (in that WAN).

What's the solution?

Any chance this is a Belkin router? I had the same problem with my Belkin N450 Gigabit, not being able to use my DynDNS name, only the ip address (192.168.....). The Belkin died a few days ago when our power blipped two or three times in a row (I did not have the router on a battery backed up UPS plug, do now).

I replaced it with a Netgear 450 Gigabit router and the problem is gone. I can now connect using the DynDNS name (and Mooo.com name) again. So, bottom line is, it's probably your router causing the problem.

I went round and round with Belkin on this for over a month and finally just gave up. Made it difficult to test changes to the web server.

Router was working fine yesterday but this morning it just won't connect to the internet (wired or wireless). I have tried unplugging the modem & router for a few minutes and turning them back on. I have also reset the router back to the factory settings but that hasn't worked either.

The router is fairly new, bought about 2-3 weeks ago. It is an AzureWave AW-GR520.

The only way I can connect to the internet is if I plug my PC straight into the modem itself.

Here are 2 IPCONFIGS. One whilst connected to the router and one whilst connected to the modem.

A:Router Stopped Connecting To Internet Overnight

Hi guys. Here's my problem. Everything worked fine for almost two years until 12 days ago when my router D-Link DI-704UP suddenly disconnected the internet and couldn't connect anymore. I use a PPPoE connection, but all the info is fine, I already tried to reset the router and configure it again but it didn't work.

However, if I connect the modem (USR9001) directly on my PC and not on the router I can connect without any problem through Windows XP. But when I connect the modem back to the router it simply doesn't connect, it keeps trying and can't get IP, DNS and all the other stuff.

I then thought it could be a hardware problem with the router and sent it to tech support for testing and it worked fine there. When I brought it back here and installed everything, the same problem. I'm not sure what to do anymore, any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Reset the router to factory default settings and try again (remember to power cycle the modem when switching devices).

If still not working try leaving the router unplugged for a couple hours.

Most routers have LEDs, and the user manual tells what the different states mean. What do the LEDs tell you when you try to connect the router to the modem?

What is the brand and model of the modem? Of the router?

I upgraded my internet speed from 40 to 120 Mbps and almost immediately my router (Netgear R6400) stopped working. Devices show wifi but no internet. Rebooted modem and router and nothing happened. Too much of a coincidence for Router to break I think. Checked with ISP and modem is fine. Internet is working when hard wired into computer. How do I fix?

Hi kinghifi, and welcome to TSG.

Is it possible that your router was configured to work with your modem operating in bridge mode (No NAT) and the modem got reset to non-bridge mode as part of the speed upgrade?

Hi, I really need help, and Virgin Media are useless.

I have a 20MB internet connection with Virgin media
I have a Linksys WRT54GS Router
I have a desktop PC running windows XP connected via ethernet to the router
I have a Toshiba laptop running windows 7 ultimate connected via wireless to the router.

Up until about almost a week ago, Everything was working fine, when I was browsing clips on youtube till about 5 in the morning. (I work nights) I went down stairs for breakfast at about 7, and went on the PC, which had no internet. Thinking it was one of virgin media's frequent blips, I just unplugged the router and modem like always. I plugged them back in, and nothing. I rang up their helpline which had an automated message, "If you are in the following postcodes; (list of post codes, mine was one) then you may be experiencing problems, and these will be fixed as soon as possible." Fair enough.

Two days later, no net, rang them up, no message, got through to the help line. Long story short, my PC is now connected to the internet from an ethernet cable directly to the modem, and they're blaming the router, something they did before which turned out to be false as it turned out both their modem and set top box where faulty.

When I put the modem back into the router, all the lights are on and flashing, including the "internet" light on the router, yet not internet conection comes out of it. I find it hard to believe that my r... Read more

Hello, I hope you can help me. My Linksys WRT120N router was working fine for all of 1 and 1/2 months and suddenly it stopped making the internet connection. At first nothing could access the internet but now that I've reset the router (via the little reset button in the back) my Kindle can access the wireless, but of course no password etc. I actually don't know how to put back the username and password for it.

When router is connected:
When I troubleshoot the connection by clicking on "Repair Connection" it takes about 2-5 mins "obtaining a new network address" then I get an error saying
"The wired connection to your router was not automatically repaired.
X Local network: Not connected

When router is not connected:
Network Magic tells me I'm "Connected to a network other than my primary network".

My computer can't connect to the internet unless I leave the router out of the equation and plug the comp directly into my broadband modem.

Have you tried a different port to see if that port is being blocked by your ISP?

I also see that your parsing TCP to UDP, probably doesn't make a difference to the port being open or closed but it might be better to set them both the same or set to Any.

Another problem you may encounter is your IP may change, most ISP's like to change your IP every so often so you may have to set up a DDNS with a hostname in order to access the services you want remotely.

I have a wireless Linksys router, model WRT54GS, and I had it hooked up correctly and everything was working fine. I'm currently at college, but the router was still at home, and my mom calls up and tells me that the internet isn't working anymore. I went home and checked it and the router is no longer getting an IP address or DNS server information. If I hook a computer directly to the modem, internet access works just fine, but not when hooked up from modem to router. Any suggesstions? Any more information needed?

I updated my home PC today from XP Pro to Vista 64 Bit Business.

I was provided the software by my employer and purchased a brand new HD to install it on. Install went fine.

My home network consists of the following:

My PC -XP Pro - wired connection
Wife Laptop - XP Pro - wireless
Kids PC - XP Pro - wireless
Vonage VOIP - wired
PS3 - wired
wii - wireless
d-link router

The above set up works great all the time.

I installed Vista 64 Business on a new HD today and changed nothing else as above. I cannot connect to the Internet at all through my router. When I bypass the router and plug in directly, I can connect without issues. This (for obvious reasons) will not work and was hoping that someone could help me out.

My service provider (Cogeco) will not help me at all since the Internet works without the router connected.

Please tell me what information you require from me in order to help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, here's the whole story. I was making some adjustments on my router the other day for my azereus bittorent client and I was told that I have double NAT or something. Everything was still working fine at this point. I use a siemens speedstream 5200 modem that came from the ISP, and I changed it to bridged mode. I couldn't access my modem's ip any more after that, so I decided to turn off and on my modem. The problem is, after rebooting my modem, my router stopped working. I can still connect through the modem though.

The day I got my modem, I had a similar problem. I couldn't get my router to work. After running the wizard like 20 times, it somehow magically worked... for my computer only. Then I had to run it more times to get my sister and my computers to work. Once I plugged in my brother's cable, everything stopped working. After a series of plugging, unplugging, and rerunning of the wizard, it worked (don't ask me how).

Can anyone help?

PS. should I get a different router? I heard that d-link is horrible, especially the wireless. Is linksys better?

A:DI-624 Router: It stopped working

you do not want bridge mode. Start with one computer to the router, cabled to the modem.
Internet connection should be ok. Then the other computers should work too.
The bittorrent client is a separate issue.

Hey guys. Am having problems with my Belkin wireless G Router, model number F5D7230-4 ver. 8000. Not 100% sure what's happened with it, as it's worked up until this morning. The connection randomly dropping isn't a new thing but, in the past I've just reset either the router or the modem as they'd just flat out stop working. But now, resetting the router isn't working at all.

Right now, I've got the ethernet cable from the modem plugged directly into my laptop, so I know it's not the connection itself.

Two calls to Belkin customer service haven't helped at all and I'm pretty much at my wit's end as to what to do now, beyond throwing this thing in the trash and just buying a new one.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Forgot to mention this: My attempts to access the router by going through haven't worked.. I'm not able to even access the router in its current condition.

Hope this isn't confusing but, my internet provider (my cable company) came in to set up a wireless modem/router when we upped our internet speed today. We have three desktop computers which are hard wired to our existing Linksys router which we have been using previously. Would it be in our best interest to turn off the wireless function of that router (it's hooked up to the new modem/wireless router so the hardwired computers can function since the new unit has no ports to plug in the desktop computers into). Our wireless devices are all 'connected' to the new modem/router (using its passphrase and SSID). Can the wireless capabilities of each interfere with each other? They are sitting right next to each other.

A:Solved: Internet provider wireless modem/router and my hard wired router

It's confusing to me, but can make two comments ...

a. If you are not using the wireless network of a router it's best to disable or turn off the wireless--saves electricity and should extend the life of the router.

b. Two wireless networks whose channel numbers are less than five from each other can interfere. In North America if possible use channels 1, 6 and 11 to guarantee non interference.

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Short story even shorter, there was a semi-power outage this morning (lights were very dim but power wasn't totally off), and when the power came back on my router stopped working. Here's what I know:

-The WLAN LED is no longer lit so there's no wireless. That orange CiscoSystems button is no longer glowing orange either if that means much.

-For some odd reason a wired connection through any of the ethernet ports on the router no longer works either, though the LED's still light up when connected, along with the internet LED.

-The modem works fine, I'm connected to the internet directly from the modem right now.

-I've tried to reset the router, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

-I've tried to access the router config settings, and the page doesn't load.

-I've tried to look up the routers ip address through the command prompt but when I enter the command "ipconfig" when I'm wired through the router I always get the response something along the lines of "media disconnected". When I try the command when connected directly to the modem the default gateway ip address comes up as ''. This doesn't work either.

Recently, after a few hours my laptop suddently loses connection to the router and from then it keeps connecting and loosing the connection for a few hours. Sometimes it connects successfuly .
This happens while my other pc, connected by cable to the router, works perfectly. The next day i open the laptop the internet works fine.
I noticed ,when i had another router, that the laptop often had problems connecting to it while my pc was working. It would connect a lot slower after i would reset the router.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on both.
Could it be the laptop?

Windows troubleshooter says it is the router's problem while the yahoo messenger troubleshooter says it is Http Connection problem.

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If an integrated adapter get the driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site. If an external adapter get the driver from the adapter manufacturer's web site. In either case if you already have the latest correct driver reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupted.

When you are experiencing the trouble ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

All of the computers say they are getting an "Excellent" signal, but non are able to bring up a web page. Don't know if what he did could have had any affect on our current problem, but I would really love to have our internet back!!! Any help would be fantastic. Thanks!
PS I called the cable company and they said there is no problem with the modem. When you plug the ethernet cord directly into the computer the internet works fine.

Why? What did he add to the wiring?

my guess is you have a different box between the modem and the original WiFi router.

what are the make/ model numbers of the modem and every box leading to ( & including) the wifi router.

You will need the Admin/Password to the router and I suspect we need to set the IP masquerade address

I have a NetGear Router WGR615 v5. I have had it for a couple years now and no problems - I have two laptops, a desktop and ps3 and it has worked great. Last night, all of sudden, I lose my internet connection. All machines still show the connection and I can view and access other computers in the network but I can't access the internet through the router.

I hooked up my desktop directly to the moden and there is no problem getting online that way. I unplugged the router and restarted computers several times and that didn't help.

All light are working on the router..it shows an internet connection. The "check" light isn't on but I don't remember if that is one that is supposed to stay on.

I noticed under "connection status" that packets are being sent but none are being received.

Does anyone have any ideas why I the connection would just stop?

A:NetGear Router stopped working

Try a reset to factory default settings and reconfigure.

Look at the router's WAN status to see if it is getting an IP, Gateway, etc., from the ISP.

I had previously bought a router (D-Link DI-524) and ran my cable modem to it, and then hooked up two PC's to it via cables. Everything was working fine, with some help from others on the forum (http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/455768-solved-hooking-up-both-pcs.html)

Recently, the router just stop working, after a power failure. The lights are on, but neither PC is getting an internet connection. I plugged and unplugged it with no luck. When I connect the cable modem to one PC, it sees the net, but going through the router no such luck.

How can I start to figure out the router problem?

My wireless adapter shows that it is connected to my network, but my computer cannot connect to the internet. All other computers can still connect to the internet. It worked fine for almost a year, then one day...no connection.
I use Win7, Home Premium, 64-bit; engenius wireless adapter and Linksys router. I tried to change to a TP-Link router, but my adapter (or computer) couldn't find it, so I switched back to the Linksys.
Tried re-installing wireless adapter, linksys, tp-link; re-sets to both routers; uninstalling software, then re-installing;
Any solutions I've missed?

I forgot to include the error message. I don't know what it means:

i have a belkin g plus mimo router model f5d9230-4 that stopped functioning after a thunder storm. i have verizon dsl for my provider and am using a westell 2200 modem . i get only the power light to light on the router no matter what i try. this is with all cables connected or no cables connected. i pressed the reset button with no effect. do you think this is a lost cause or do you have something else i can try before i buy new? thanks paul

A:belkin router stopped working

Do two things:
Hold the reset button in for at least 15 seconds.

Power off the router for at least one minute.
If neither of these help, think it might be new router time and maybe a surge protector might be in order.

My daughter's laptop has been experiencing crashes for several months (unfortunately, I just found out about them). It seemed completely dead a few days ago, but I was able to get it up and running, but she has no connectivity via our wireless router. As far as I can tell all is good with the router. Her laptop is running Windows 7. Up until a few minutes ago, it was at least recognizing the router and seemed connected, but couldn't make the leap from that to an Internet connection. Now it doesn't appear to even "see" the router. I get the error message "There was a problem starting van.dll. The specified module could not be found." Earlier (a couple days ago), I was able to re-establish a connection by disabling and then re-enabling the network card, but that no longer seems to help. I have found help here before and am hoping someone can help me navigate through what I am sure are a host of issues. I ran the MiniToolBox and here is the report -- thank you!! Liz

Now I'm going to start where I think the problem is.. I think my device manager adapter settings are changed.

I turned on Gaming Environment and it helped a little..

But these settings:

Radio On/Off.

Could someone tell me what they mean and if I should enable/disable them for gaming?

I recently setup a wireless internet connection for a friend, they have a HP Laptop 510 and a Lynksys WAG54GS wireless router. When I first set the network up about a month ago both the laptop and the router communicated happily.

When they returned from a weekend away they found that all the lights had gone out on the router. They switched the router back on and have been unable to access the internet wirelessly ever since.

Iíve checked the settings of both the laptop and the router and everything seems in order. The laptop will see the wireless network, and reports that it is connected to the wireless network. The router sees the laptops MAC address as been connected to it. But neither device can ping each other.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Any help I can get on this one will be much appreciated...

First off....the lap is running ME....the router is a Gnet IP104G Broadband Router with a card ...the connection is Cable.

As I do near or at the end of every month...I run a scandisk and defragg and usually her comp runs nice.

Well yesterday I did what I usually do and for some reason now it cant connect to the net.

Previously when things were running well...I did a copy and paste of all the screenshot settings and compared and it seems everything should work BUT it won't. Usually when it doesn't connect we just pull the power to the router, replug et voila...it works!

I know this wireless stuff isnt an exact science but "what now?" Any ideas?

I was attempting to port foreward for my PS3, but was having no luck. Long story short, I tried changing the router's IP to see if it would work. Here's where the problem began. I changed it from to, which I believe may have made it conflict with my modem. Now I'm stuck not being able to access the internet through the router at all or access the router's configuration to change it back. When I try to access it, I just get a "Page not Found". The computer connected directly to the router is running Windows XP. The Router is a Linksys WRT54GS v. 4.

I've tried disconnecting the internet from the Router to see if it would stop the conflicting problem (if that is indeed the problem), but it didn't work. I've tried setting up many different static IP adresses for the computer connected to the router directly, but it didn't work. I've tried nearly everything, but I just can't get it working.

I'm posting this through a computer connected through a switch to my modem.

Thanks in advance.

I know there is a buttload of bad stuff on my computer, but I need a quick fix for my problem now.

My router/modem work fine. They're connected to my computer and VOIP, and they work perfectly. The problem is the internet does not register this and thus doesn't work on other PCs. In other words, I can't get my laptop to recognize my router.

When I start up network connections, I get this message:

runtime error
program: program files\microsoft broadband\msbnutil.exe

this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information

The original message was "broadband error" or somethign like that so I did a week old system restore. No good. So I figure there's a problem on my computer.

Also, I tested the connection thoroughly, and I reset them, and junk, but still I got nothing.

Ok, I have a Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch, Model BEFSR41.

Its directly connected (wired), to two computers downstairs and the main computer upstairs. It was working fine for a long period of time.

Now, two days ago. I was on my computer (downstairs), and the internet just stopped working. I went upstairs and the internet here doesnt work either. So I reset everything, and still no luck.

So for now, I disconnected the linksys cord from my Speedstream modem, and disconnected the main computer cord from the router, to just go directly into the computer.

Ive tried looking around for help but no luck, I cant really upgrade my router or go to the admin site, since I cant even connect to the internet through the router.

Ive tried reseting it. no luck.

I can install a lesser version because I cant even connect to the internet through the router

The router is still on, the Power light is on, and the 2 and 3 lights are on, which are the two computers downstairs.

This is what it says on the bottom of the router

Model Number: BEFSR41 ver. 3
S/N: C2130D555202
MAC: 000F66932F56

But the problem is that its very unstable and the modem keeps on rebooting itself very frequently and i am almost unable to use the internet even effectively for 1 minutes at a stretch.

My Netgear Wireless-G WGR61v10 router has suddenly stopped doing its thing. No changes were made to it, and it's not that old - maybe a year and a half. Short enough to not think its gone bad and long enough to stop getting free Netgear support.

I rebooted everything after pulling the power, first from the cable modem, then the router, then the computer, but no change. Neither my laptop or desktop will get online through the router, even when directly connected. I can ping the router, however.

Here are some of my settings when I log in to the router itself:

Channel: auto
Mode: b and g

Security Options: WPA2-PSK [AES]

I have my existing passphrase in the Security Options field, also.

Under Advanced Wireless Settings, I have this:

Enable Wireless Router Radio (checked)
Enable SSID Broadcast (checked)
Keep Existing Wireless Settings (checked)

[I normally don't go into the Advanced Wireless Settings area].

I'm trying to hook up a wireless connection in my home. When the DSL is connected regularly through the modem it works just fine. But when I hook up the Netgar router and try to set it up so that my son's laptop can have wireless, the internet will not connect. I get an error that gives me the option to redial but that never works either.

We tried a Belkin router (It just stopped working recently), then tried linksys, and now Netgar.

Thanks in advance.

I own two routers - D-Link DSL-504 (ADSL, not wireless) and D-Link DIR-635 (wireless).

The set-up used to be like this:
- Internet (ADSL) cable pluged in DSL-504 router
- PC connected to DSL-504 via Ethernet port
- DIR-635 connected to DSL-504 (Ethernet port to 'Internet' port) - DSL-504 works as a 'modem'
- Laptop wirelessly connected to DIR-635

Everything has worked (note: it wasn't me who set this up).

Unfortunatelly I have reseted the DIR-635 (wireless router) because of some troubles. Now the wireless router doesn't connect to the Internet. I can connect either computer via cable with the first router and it works like a dream. Computers can also see the DIR-365 router when connected to it via cable, but it does not see the Internet.

I've switched the setup on and off several times. Cables work. Computers work, they can see Internet from other sources.

I guess I need to configure the wireless router in some certain way, but I really have no idea, how.

I'd be grateful for your help.

A:Solved: Router cannot connect to Internet (via another router used as a modem)

Probably IP Address conflict as both D-Links would usually use for default internal (LAN) IP.

You would need to change the LAN IP address of the DIR-615 to another subnet such as for a modem LAN port to router WAN (Internet) port connection unless the DIR-615 can be set as an access point. Will need to check the User Manual to see. Will pull up a PDF and check.

Another option would be to set up using the following method by John Will.
Connecting two soho routers in a network
Tutorial from Johnwill from the Networking Forum

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Hi, I'm brand new here and I don't have tons of computer knowledge although I am learning....I hope! We bought a campground last year and were offering a wifi hot spot located near the camp office. It was actually done by accident because we live in the same building and have our own home network of 3 computers. We have a Linksys WRT54G router and a cable modem. So the campers were hopping on our wireless. I had some problems over the winter with someone using my credit card online. I was advised to maybe try getting another router and a hub/switch and basically to hook that hub/switch to the cable modem and then hook both routers to that and to have one of the routers be secured (WPA) and the other unsecured for the campers to use as a wifi hotspot. I also bought a Linksys range expander which I haven't set up yet. If this configuration with 2 routers on the same cable modem will work, I will set up the range expander to the unsecured router. I emailed linksys to ask them if this whole configuration was possible and the answer I received was basically not very straightforward but they made it sound like it couldn't be done. So now I'm asking you if it can be done the way I said or if there's another way I can offer an unsecured hot spot without compromising my own home network and security and without costing me a fortune. Hope someone can help. Thanks.
