ADWCleaner crashes when I run it in Windows 10

Q: ADWCleaner crashes when I run it in Windows 10

Hi guys!
New to the forum, but have cruised the site in the past, very helpful. I downloaded the latest version of ADWCleaner, but it crashes after I run a scan and hit the "Clean" button. It gathers information, then restarts my computer.  I have a new Dell XPS8700 with Windows 10, 24 gigs of ram, etc. Any ideas or suggestions?

Preferred Solution: ADWCleaner crashes when I run it in Windows 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: ADWCleaner crashes when I run it in Windows 10

Please activate Debug Mode as follows so we can see a report which may be helpful with identifying the problem.Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to open the tool.Click on Options in the top menu.Put a check mark next to Activate debug mode.Click on the Scan button.A logfile report called AdwCleaner_dbg_XXXX.log (where XXXX represents the time run) will be created and saved to %systemdrive%\AdwCleaner folder (usually C:\AdwCleaner).Copy and paste the contents of AdwCleaner_dbg_XXXX.log in your next reply.

For some time now, I've noticed my computer behaving odd. It is slow as molasses, random programs just appear (I've assumed my kids have been picking them up from gaming sites), and it would completely shut down randomly. I have Malware Bytes Pro which finds the same 7 issues every scan, but freezes after the scan is complete; I also have AVG. I got tired of seeing Vosteran Search as my homepage, so I went online to see how to remove it and it was suggested that I use AdwCleaner. I downloaded it and it finds a 216 threats (not good, I know). But when I click clean, my entire computer freezes. Thinking it was similar to Malware Bytes freezing, I left it on overnight to work itself out, but it simply didn't do anything. My computer was completely frozen. Any help would be much appreciated.

Decided to try AdwCleaner ... was just doing a little maintenance and AdwCleaner found some stuff ... I clicked clean ... and when AdwCleaner shut down the computer ... I got an immediate BSOD (inadvertent shutdown). The BSOD remained visable just a couple of seconds so I have no clue what it said. Vista recovered just fine ... I reran AdwCleaner and there were no detections. Other than the BSOD everything seems fine.
But ... what could have been the cause of the BSOD? I'm reluctant to use AdwCleaner again until I can determine the cause.

Hello I hope you will be able to help me with this.
I ran ADWCleaner on a Windows XP SP3 machine and after the clean process it asked to restart the PC to complete but now XP does not start. It gets as far as the second (higher def) Windows xp startup screen and then just hangs with occasional HDD accesses and a responsive mouse pointer. It does the same in any of the safe modes and from the Last Known Good Config option.
So far I have ran chkdsk from the XP Recovery Console , it found some errors but that has not fixed the problem.
I have looked in system~1\_resto~1 directory and found there are no restore point directories listed.
I was about to try a manual registry restore but have found that there is no SYSTEM file in system32\config\ though there is a system.bak file
That is as far as I have got so far. Any help would be much appreciated.

In an attempt to clean up a Dell Inspiron 1150, i ran AdwCleaner that i had downloaded through BleepingComputer. i didn't run AdwCleaner as an administrator though .. i forgot. AdwCleaner ran the scan & when the AdwCleaner was done i clicked Clean. After that the computer asked me to reboot. i clicked ok & when the computer restarted only the Dell logo appeared for a few seconds. During these seconds it said in the upper right Press F2 for BIOS & Press F12 for Boot Menu. After these few seconds then screen goes blank except for blinking underscore in left corner of screen. A:Windows won't run after AdwCleaner reboot

Can you boot to Safe Mode ?
If so, run Rkill and then Malwarebytes with NO reboot inbetween the two scans....If malwarebytes asks for a reboot that is ok....do so.
Please download RKill by Grinler from the link below and save it to your desktop.
Before we begin, you should disable your anti-malware softwares you have installed so they do not interfere RKill running as some anti-malware softwares detect RKill as malicious. Please refer to this page if you are not sure how.
Double-click on Rkill on your desktop to run it. (If you are using Windows Vista, please right-click on it and select Run As Administrator)

I'm not the most computer savy person out there, so I've been struggling a bit with my laptop lately. (It's slowed down, particularly where internet is concerned.) Earlier today I encountered a problem where my laptop seemed to recognize mouse clicks where there were none, no matter how cuatious I was to make sure I wasn't accidentally hitting anything. I ran a scan with Norton, which only cleared a few tracking cookies, then tested AdwCleaner, which came up with this:

According to the only person I know who's taken the time to learn anything about computers beyond how to use them for entertainment and google, I shouldn't mess with anything in my registry. But when I ran a search of those first two items (which looked weird compared to the others) I came up with results about malware that takes bank info.
Should I let AdwCleaner take care of it? I don't want to screw up my laptop any further. I've also seen a few posts about malware that comes back easily, so would AdwCleaner be enough?

Hello, and I hope we can help. Those items are "generally" accepted as bad minor infections, and can be removed. Please download these to desktop, and Copy and Paste any logs. First - This is a "basic clean-up" and we will go further depending on your answers. Please download and run RKill by Grinler. A black DOS box will appear for a short time and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. At most the tool will usually run for about 2 minutes Please Copy / Paste the small log back here. Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step. * NOW :* Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop. * Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. * Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. * Click on the Scan button, only once for a good report * AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete. * After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.* Check the removals and see if you are OK with the list. You can always Copy and Paste the SCAN log here if you wish -* Now * Click on the Clean button, only once for a good log. * Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts. * Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. * After... I have Windows 8.1. My programs are now are exceedingly slow and Chrome won't do anything after opening. (I'm renting this hp Pavillion 20 All in one., but it's my SSD and OS). I uninstalled Norton suite (because of slowness) and wanted to use Adwcleaner per usual and the "smart" screen bar says it's not for Windows 8.1 and to contact the maker. I've never had an issue using it in the past.
Also, tried to reinstall Norton 360 Suite X2, after using the norton uninstaller,  but at the very end it spins and never finishes installation.  Used Symantic Erasure (with support) but without any significant results.  So I put in Iobit antimalware 3.0 and the latest Zone Alarm firewall. Any thoughts? All clear from the Iobit scan.
This is odd, but please don't bother with detailed advise about virus removal,I'll re image soon after I give this slow rental back)  But, I'd still like to use Adwcleaner. Hm. Thanks if anyone can give me an idea of what's happening. Erasure did the rootkit check too.   Rob

A:Suddenly, Adwcleaner per Windows 8.1 wrong type?

Hi Rob,From what I know, AdwCleaner is compatible with Windows 8.1. You can temporary disable SmartScreen if you need to run AdwCleaner. And also one piece of advice from me: Don't use IOBit products.Personally, I do not trust any company that creates so-called "optimization" products, bundles unwanted software into their installations and not allowing users to opt out, and stole intellectual property from other companies - in this case, database signatures from Malwarebytes Corporation.I recommend that you uninstall IOBit Malware Fighter and use a reputable AV software, along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or Emsisoft Anti-Malware for additional AM protection.Regards,Alex

I recently installed/run AdwCleaner v4.110 and let it delete some files and registry keys on my Vista pc. I was just trying to clean some traces of old/residual infections. Everything was fine prior to the install. Now windows explorer stopped working as well as my installed programs have selective start-up. Sometimes they start, other they wont.
Firefox would default to its home page, but I cant open anything further, no web search, simply unresponsive! Everytime I type web address or google search - nothing happens. As for IE, it shows "internet connection".
I tried to run/update Malwarebytes but it wont let me. I tried rebooting in Safe Mode but it did not help, I get the exact same issues as in normal mode. Another problem is that there are no Restore Points as I had System Restore turned off.

Hey all, first post and everything.
My little brother, brilliant boy that he is, installed some program that was supposedly a better Steam with better sales. Of course this program was littered with viruses. I proceeded to run Avast, which froze up and could not enable the firewall anymore. Then went into the Control Panel and uninstalled Wajak which was popping inappropriate ads all over everything and Steam. I saw that a program called One System Care was there as well, but I couldn't remove it off of the Control Panel.
Afterwards I ran adwcleaner and it removed One System Care and Lavasoft Web Companion. Unfortunately after that finished the computer lost access to the internet. It shows that it's connected to the Network, but neither ethernet and Wireless are working. I've tried:
- Checking the Internet Options to see if a Proxy was enabled.
- Checking if the DNS was messed with in the Network options.
- Ran Rkill.exe
- Ran MiniToolBox.exe
- Ran JRT.exe
- Flushed the ipconfig, ipv4, ipv6 in cmd.
- Reinstalling the Ethernet and Wireless drivers.
- Restarting the computer afterwards.
And none of that has helped. He is still unable to access the internet after all that. I'm out of ideas, hope you guys can help. Not sure what other information I can provide.

Have you tried resetting Winsock and TCP/IP. Sometimes Winsock gets corrupted after removing adware.
Type CMD in the search box Right Click > Run As Administrator.  Type the following then reboot.

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Hey, I've never actually asked my own question on one of these forums before, but this is becoming a problem that really needs fixing.
I've been able to fix adware problems on my friends', family's and my own computers before with Adwcleaner and it has always worked quite successfully, until I got a Windows 10 computer. Now when I try and run the 'Clean' function, I get the blue screen of death with the words 'Critical Process Died Error', and I haven't found a way to get around it.
Could anyone please help me - is it just an incompatibility with Adwcleaner and Windows 10 or is there a way to fix this?

In short, I used adwcleaner incorrectly and cleaned critical sections of XP....I`m not exactly clear what those sections were but my functions where certainly compromised. I asked for help and was receiving assistance, but things went from bad to worse when I was told to uninstall my browser...under normal circumstances this would not have been a problem, I believe. Yet, with the compromised XP I seemlingly have no way to reinstall any browser. (I`m currently at a internet cafe and have been using my Iphone)
Moreover, the restoration function and administrative functions all seem to be compromised, so we cannot seem to undo what we`ve done.
I`m requesting assisantance from anyone with experiance with XP, at this point my main goal is to simply restore the PC and or reinstall a Browser.
Regards, and much thanks

My windows explorer crashes and restarts every time I perform some action (e.g., opening a file, moving a file, saving a file). I get the standard "windows explorer encountered a problem and needs to shut down; sorry for the inconvenience" message. In addition, trying to attach a file (mostly word documents) crashes the web browser - IE and firefox simply close, chrome gives an error message "plug-in crash - shockwave flash" and becomes unresponsive.

I very much appreciate your help.

Had this computer a little over a year, I7 with 16gb of memory, windows 7 ultimate. etc

About a month ago, started seeing BSOD's. The BSOD would normally reflect "Memory Management" as the cause. Then the browsers started crashing, tried chrome, firefox and IE. Have removed and re installed all of them. I continue to received "windows has recovered" screens.

Was reading this thread, attempted the memory test via CD, it ran for several hours (actually alowed it to run all night. When I went to bed it was on test 8, the errors were moving from 0 to 32767. I got up this morning, same numbers, same test #. Seemed like it was stuck on that run even though the error numbers were still changing.

I have down loaded and ran who crashed. It's conclusion is :

12 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the... Read more

A:Browser crashes, windows crashes, memory test won't complete, BSOD

If Memtest86+ is showing up errors, then there are hardware issues present. It's just discerning what hardware is bad. Initial suspect obviously is memory, but the unusual case makes it think it's some logic error like some CPU failure or something. It's also possible that when burning it to CD that the Memtest itself got corrupted somehow (i.e. bad burn).

16 GB is a lot of memory on a consumer motherboard. There is the possibility that while your motherboard can handle 16GB of memory, that 16GB of the actual memory model that you're using may not be supported. Certain configurations of memory can have problematic issues. So while the memory sticks themselves may not be bad, the actual 16GB setup of them may break things.

Have you tested system stability with reduced amount of RAM, like 1/2 sticks of RAM, as well as running Memtest on a couple passes for each separate stick?

Hey guys, I'm going on my 10th hour of trouble shooting here.

Started my PC this morning, went and opened Steam, then windows explorer crashed without a message (Task bar disappeared) and locked up my whole PC for about 5 seconds before the BSOD. Rebooted to install "WhoCrashed" to read the minidump. During this process, I went through about 6 other crashes of the same nature. It doesn't seem to be dependent on load, however, because it'll happen just sitting idle on the desktop too.

On the most recent crash, I noticed that around the same time explorer crashed, my Razer keyboard and mouse both died out, leaving me no control.

I just got a new graphics card (NVIDEA Geforce GTX 960 4GB) 2 weeks ago and it was all fine up until now, so I'm not sure if it's related. We put in a Coolermaster CPU cooler at the same time, new thermal paste, etc. and all temperatures are normal (about 90 degrees F, same as always). None of my temps are off from what they've been for the last 2 years, and I don't think I've ever had a BSOD on this custom PC.

Updated NVIDEA drivers from safe mode, started looking into Motherboard updates, but not applying any because I can't even tell what I have already. Everything is fine and dandy in safe mode.

So, please, for the love of all things holy, someone help me out here... I'm good with PC's but I'm at my witt's end here. Attached you should find the proper log and an image from Speccy. Had to take it with my phone beca... Read more

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... Hi guys,
I just joined the forums today.
My issue has to do with basically every internet browser I have and Nvidia Geforce Experience.  Whenever I open chrome and opera, both of them crash instantly.  Additionally, whenever I open firefox and edge and go to certain pages such as get.adobe.com or opera.com/download, the websites crash.  On IE, it does basically the same thing; the only difference is that I go to the webpage it generally crashes on and it says IE stopped responding, but IE is still loading the webpages and I can still add a new tab!  Also, after getting an alert yesterday from Geforce Experience that a new video card driver was available, I clicked on the alert, only to have a window pop up saying that it crashed.  I tried to open Geforce Experience again.  Crashed again.
After trying to use a system restore point from October 18, 2016 (before I had this issue) I still had this problem.  A Microsoft support rep said that it is most likely a virus.  I did have trend micro officescan installed at the time, however, but i'm guessing some viruses can get past your security.
The only change I can remember is installing MSI Afterburner.  I may have downloaded a thing or two, but only used trusted sites to download from (Cnet, Opera, sourceforge).
As a last resort, I tried to used Darik's Boot and Nuke using a USB drive that I used Universal USB Installer with to put the DBAN iso on there... Read more

This happened recently after my sister downloaded something from the internet, and when I opened the folder to transfer it to her flash drive, a notification popped up telling me that, "Windows Explorer has crashed," and then it restarts (not the computer, just explorer. It sort of "refreshes" the desktop), then loads, and then crashes again.

I can still use my laptop normally from adjacent accounts, and when I tried deleting the file (the source of all of this, I'm assuming) it says that I need the permission of my main account, even though this account that I am currently using is also and administrator.

Can someone give me a little help? If there is none to be found I can use this side account for a while until something can be done, but it is incredibly inconvenient.

I am using Windows 7 currently.

I have had this program installed for a couple of weeks now.Very useful, at first I found many instances of malware not found by MSE, or by SuperAntispyware.I was both pleased that the malware was found, but disappointed (particularly with MSE), that this small simple program had found what they could not !Subsequently if my browser slows noticeably I run AdwCleaner & occasionally (as if from nowhere) I have one or two instances of malware.I am defining malware as anything installed without specific permission, regardless of threat level.AdwCleaner is easy & fast but after the deletion process you must restart which takes longer than the "search" & "delete" process. There are many program improvements one could suggest, but in essence it's small simple & it works!Warning: You might be tempted as I was, to download & install the Hosts/PUP files recommended by AdwCleaner.I'd suggest you don't. I spent ages attempting to do this, but the webpage is a nightmare in French !I spent sometime drafting a few suggestions but the contact me link failed repeatedly. Very frustrating.Edit: Moved topic from All Other Applications to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

If you think you may be infected with malware, the first place to start is in the "Am I Infected? What Do I Do?" forum. This is a centralized place where advanced members and staff can provide initial assistance with malware removal. If your issues cannot be resolved there, then you will receive further instructions as to what you need to do.

I'm new here but I've registered to post a really bugging thing! Every time I download AdwCleaner.exe my Norton software analyzes it as bad! Today it blocked it completely! I like the program but is it bad or good? I investigated it a bit and Norton said it blocked it as no one hardly uses the program and therefore it must be bad. Norton also said something about the program developer should apply for 'whitelisting' given the program is so sparingly used and then it would not block it. I've used it a lot in the recent past but I can't get it back on my PC. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The truth is that tools used on uor forums to deal with adware/malware are very often marked as suspicious by AV vendors. Be assured that AdwCleaner is safe and not infected.
The reason for being marked as harmful is they contain usually very strong inbuilt parts to deal with malware (like process killers, strong file removers), which appear suspicious to AV's.
Submitting it as a false positive to AV companies is pointless, because they do not check the version and each time an update to AdwCleaner or any other tool is released - the history goes on and on.

Did you download AdwCleaner from here? Some anti-virus programs may falsely detect the program and prevent it from downloading completely.AdwCleaner has been around for a while know and someone else (family member, friend) with access to your computer may have downloaded and used it. If AdwCleaner was previously used, be aware that AdwCleaner is frequently updated and, if using an outdated version, you will be prompted to download the newest one.

My computer has been acting weird over the last 3 - 4 days.
I go to Facebook every day. I play some games on Google Chrome but there are two games that I have to play on Firefox because they are too slow on Google.
On Google when I open FB the pictures on posts open in steps, the page is slower to load and when I go to load one of the games it is slower and when I finally get in it is skittish and the pointer fluctuates.
On FF they have been super fast but now it is taking forever to load the games and when I do it is super slow to do anything.
Normally I don't have a problem but just lately there have been problems on both Google and FF.
I know that Facebook have made changes to their site and I don't know whether that may be the problem.
I have made sure everything is updated. Used CCleaner. Cleared cache etc. Deactivated Java. I use AVG and have done a full system scan. I have Adblock. I have made sure there is only one Shockwave Flash working.
I downloaded the Junkware Removal Tool and did a scan. It deleted some and repaired others.
I downloaded the AdwCleaner and it has finished scanning but I am not sure what to leave ticked. I don't want to remove something that is going to cause me problems.
I have written the single line ones but I took a screenshot of the multiples.
Could someone please advise me?

Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.

Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
The tool will open and start scanning your system.

While reviewing the files on my computer and those needing to be eliminated I found Mobogenie.  I googled it and found it called a virus or close-to-virus.  I removed it and followed instructions to remove the adware with Adwcleaner.  Since then I have not been able to load certain pictures.  Particularly, I cannot get all the pictures to load on Ebay.  Some do but most do not and I get a gray background with a circling dot.  I previously had that problem and solved it with compatibility view settings or by refreshing the page.
I did check the multimedia portion of Internet options and all appear to be where they should (checked).  I know I should have left the computer alone since the Mobogenie was not bothering me but I seem to have to learn my lessons the hard way.
Anyone have any suggestions?

So I came across one of those fake tech support ads and did not press any buttons on the screen; opened up task manager and closed the process, cleaned up my browser cache and reset the browser settings. I ran Adwcleaner but it keeps picking up AOL.com and Ask.com, but the problem is I don't have either of those search browsers installed at all. They don't show on my google chrome browser, but it keeps showing on Adwcleaner as if it's found in the AppData folder in Google Chrome.
All I'm gonna say is I'm not going to mess with it. The last time I did, which was stupidly deleting that file, I made my computer stop running/broken with the please wait loading screen stalling. So can anyone help me in what to do? I'm panicking every time adwcleaner requires me to restart my computer cause then the please wait screen loads, and due to some trauma of having my computer wiped due to that loading screen stalling, but it takes awhile to start up. Then once the please wait goes away, it shows the screensaver and finally my account. Just ugh. What do I do? It's practically nonexistent. I don't have the toolbar installed. I don't have any other little thing that could be detectable. My antivirus, WebRoot doesn't detect anything. I'm using ESET online scanner atm. Heck, even my HitmanPro didn't even detect any malware or anything. Just the typical suspicious programs that come up due to video games that come with game guards.

A:Not Sure What to Do About This Ask.com and AOL.com in AdwCleaner

Checked Malwarebytes. Nothing came up. JRT however, caught something. The log is here:

End of JRT log

(ESET is still scanning as well. Last thing to do run after it is AdwCleaner and see if it picks up the AOL or Ask because they reappeared in my search options when I had reset Google Chrome. I obviously don't use those because well... they're not my go to source for searching stuff. If AdwCleaner doesn't pick them up, then that's probably what it was and I apologize for wasting anyone's time who is reading this.)
Update: ESET finished. Nothing came up.

Hi all. This is my first post on this forum. I ran AdwCleaner for the first time yesterday. I did not have any problems but I was curious to see if I had any junk which had not been identified by MS Essentials, Malwarebytes or Avast. Some files were identified which I cleaned, but now am concerned I may have deleted a false positive. Or, stated another way, how can I be sure that every file I deleted should have been deleted? If I post the AdwCleaner report, can someone tell me if any of the deleted files should be reinstalled? My PC seems like it is working better than ever but I would feel better if an expert reviewed the deleted file log. Thanks.

Now that we've broke the ice, I'll just ask you a few things during the time we'll be working together to clean your system and get it back to an operational state. As you'll notice, the logs we are asking for here are quite lenghty, so it's normal for me to not reply exactly after you post them. This is because I need some time to analyse them and then act accordingly. However, I'll always reply within 24 hours, 48 hours at most if something unexpected happens; As long as I'm assisting you on BleepingComputer, in this thread, I'll ask you to not seek assistance anywhere else for any issue related to the system we are working on. If you have an issue, question, etc. about your computer, please ask it in this thread and I'll assist you;The same principle applies to any modifications you make to your system, I would like you to ask me before you do any manipulations that aren't in the instructions I posted. This is to ensure that we are operating in sync and I know exactly what's happening on your system; If you aren't sure about an instruction I'm giving you, ask me about it. This is to ensure that the clean-up process goes without any issue. I'll answer you and even give you more precise instructions/explanations if you need. There's no shame in asking questions here, better be safe than sorry!;If ... Read more

Is it safe to remove everything AdwCleaner found under all categories? It says"Uncheck thing you want to keep" but to be honest for most of them I have no idea what they are? I just installed it together with SuperAntiSpywaree free(replaced Spyboot).

I cannot open / run the new version of AdwCleaner.  It downloads as a prefetch file which does not respond to clicking or the run command.  Can someone please help to get it going and perhaps briefly explain to me what the significance of 'prefetch' is, whether or not it has anything to do with the program not running.  It was downloaded from the Bleeping Computer link.

Hello to all the good  people at bleeping, I have been running malwarebytes to scan my pc and lately I have been coming up with pup.optional and I ran the adwcleaner and need to ask you if you can look at this result and let me know if you see anything in the results that could be a threat.
I see avg listed but I don not have that as a protection anti virus. I have ran Ccleaner many times to clean out the leftovers.
Thankyou for reading
Have a great day,
From Gina

A:adwcleaner help

AdwCleaner is a free portable adware cleaner created by Xplode (a BC Security Colleague) that will search for and remove many potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), adware, toolbars, browser hijackers, extensions, add-ons, browser helper objects (BHOs) and other junkware to include many related registry entries (values, keys). It will also clean FF and Chrome extensions and Add-ons. When first run AdwCleaner includes options under the tabs to show what was found and to allow disabling detections you want to keep since not all detections are necessarily bad. The only things you can't uncheck is Chrome and Firefox preferences lines but you still can view them in the "Chrome" and "Firefox" tab. If a detection is made the preference line will be removed when running the tool. In some cases AdwCleaner may detect items related to legitimate programs...if in doubt about a particular detection, a Google search should be performed to gather additional information before removal. The contents of the AdwCleaner log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you recognize and know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, return to AdwCleaner before cleaning...all detected items will be listed (and checked) in each tab. Click on and uncheck any items you want to keep.AVG Security Toolbar and AVG Secure Search (created by the makers of AVG Anti-virus) are optional add-ons when installing their anti-virus product if you choose "Customiz...
