Adjusting screen setting for poor eyes

Q: Adjusting screen setting for poor eyes

My eyes are getting pretty old but I spend a lot of time on the computer. I am having trouble seeing the small fonts on my mail, facebook etc. When I go to make it bigger by right clicking on my desktop, selecting personalize, display settings... but every setting I use distorts the picture. What is a good setting for people who need a little bit bigger writing? Or is there a better way?

Preferred Solution: Adjusting screen setting for poor eyes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

I found that f.lux is really helpful to your eye when you look pc all day.

However, I found that the light setting doesn't gradually change according to time.

For example, at noon the setting is at the highest peak. So there is different light setting across the day time.

It would be good for night if there is automatic setting for light gradually set to the lowest at midnight.

When this happen, the word and picture look totally different and the nothing come out from the blue colour. I might as well go to sleep and continue work tomorrow.

Is there a way to set a few setting and when the time come, f.lux change the light setting? It may not be fully gradually change but at less there is different in the light setting than have it all same all day.

All help is appreciated. Thanks

A:F.lux: automatic setting adjusting light based on time

I remember I've used this a while back and that the options do have a setting for a transition. However, for night mode there was no transition after the sunset was reached.

I've also tested Redshift. They have Windows versions too; drawback: the settings go in the command prompt if I remember correctly..
Redshift (software) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What you need is not setting day/night but max/min and let's say that midnight is min, the transition should begin with midday -> max (around 6500K) and evenly going to midnight (lowest, let's say 4500K).

Back to F.Lux, there has to be an option with 'Long Transition' ON/OFF and even specifying how long that is (if possible set the transition to half a day) but in any case some testing might be required until you get it working the way you need it.

Good luck.

Hi everyone,

I recently installed Windows 8 yesterday, and i noticed that the display is not as crisp as it was in Windows 7. It seems to be a bit too strong, not focuses/crisp and when reading text on websites or metro apps, it makes your eyes really hurt as it seems to strain them out.

Anyone know of a solution? It is a bit hard to explain, but in Windows 7 reading text on websites was easy as it seemed to be more clearer and crisper than compared to Windows 8.

Anyone else have this issue and know of a way to resolve it? It is making my Windows 8 experience quite bad, to the point of going back to Window 7 (which i do not want, as i like Win8)?

I have the latest AMD graphics driver for my laptop (HP DV6) which has switchable graphics, and i am using the Intel HD 3000 graphics at the moment. I've also noticed that Windows 8 runs about 3-4C higher than Windows 7.

I have had my laptop for nearly half a year now and I just recently found an HDMI cable in an old junk box that can be connected from my widescreen Samsung DLP to my Laptop. The problem is that when I set my TV to be the main display the task bar does not fit on screen and I can barely see it. Another problem is when I play my games or watch videos they also appear to be bigger then what my screen is. I cant even see the exit or minus button when I make my windows/browsers in full screen. I have tried changing the screen resolution, but that doesn't work either. I then thought it might be my TV but it does not give my the option to change its aspect ratio.

I there solution to my little problem? Like a download or a program that is naturally in the computer that can adjust the aspect ratio (not resolution) manually for extended displays? And the resolution is on its recommended settings by the way.

A:I need help with adjusting my screen.

What is the graphics card on your laptop? Both AMD and nVidia cards have overscan options in their software which should give you the capability to adjust your display size manually until it fits. Also check that you're outputting the correct resolution for your TV.

Hello! I have been having trouble with the brighntess not adjusting on my Lenovo Yoga 920-13IKB.I initially tried all the methods suggested on the lenovo support website with no luck.I then went to best buy (which is where i purchased the computer) and was told there was nothing they could do because it was a hardware issue since i had already tried everything on the support site. The gentleman kindly gave me the lenovo customer service number and so i called the next day.The first call went smoothly, the gentleman updated my driver and the brightness worked. Unfortunately that only lasted 2 days so i gave lenovo another call. The second gentleman kindly uninstalled and reinstalled my driver (as stated in the support website, which i had already done) and so the brightness worked.. AGAIN for only 2 days.i proceed to call a third time, but this time the customer service representative, rudely raised her voice at me over the phone. She wanted to access my computer to update my drivers AGAIN and i mentioned i had previously called twice and on both occassions they did the exact same thing with she wanted to do. She then gave me a very smart-mouthed answer basically telling me to ship in my computer so that they can fix it. i kindly asked if i would be able to ship it at a later date because i needed it for school. She then rudely answered me that i  then needed to call back when i was ready to ship my computer and ended my call. I was very displeased with the way ... Read more

First of all, please specify maker and model of your laptop. Some vendors could have their own third party replacements for some functions.

Also, please go to Control Panel - Power Options - on the right side of your current active power plan select "Change plan settings" - in the next window click "Change ADVANCED power settings" - then navigate to - Display - Display brightness and check percentage.

AOC 2353 monitor, on windows 7 has a recommended resolution of 1920 by 1080

when it is set here I notice even the desktop boots up quick and efficient. opposed to when it is set at 1600 by 900. which is best on the eyes.

problem with 1920 by 1080 is that the folders and print are far too minute to see.

this is with Intel onboard video, from the processor.

is there a way to expand the text and folders? browsers can be zoomed

would having a video card help?

A:adjusting screen resolution - AOC monitor

If you go into the advanced display settings, you can increase the size of items and fonts and can "bold" the text.
I've got bad eyes, so I do this every time I set up one of my computers after I install the Windows operating system.

The native resolution for my 27" monitors is 1920 X 1080.
This is an example of what my desktop looks like after changing the display settings.
As you can see, the icons and text are noticeably larger and bolder than they would be from using the default settings.

So I bought a new netbook for work travel recently and loaded a program that I need to use. Program runs fine and all, however the prescribed screen resolution for the program is 1024x768 and the netbook (with Windows 7 HE and an Intel GMA 3150) doesn't seem to want to go past 1024x600. Does anyone perhaps have a thought or a way to get 7 to display more here? I don't mind if I even just need to scroll around to get to all the material, but right now its just cutting off part of the program making it impossible to work on some of it.

A:Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

Hi Orion3,

While your 1024x768 program is a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x600 is a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) as many netbooks have. I'm pretty sure that if 600 is the maximum pixel height it can display but you still need to match the 4:3 aspect ratio program, then you'll have to go down to 800x600 rather than up. Try that and let me know how it works.

I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness on my Yoga 920.  It's stuck.  The F11 and F12 keys do nothing. I have updated the BIOS.  I have reinstalled the driver.  When I do so, it fixes the problem ... until the next time the laptop goes to sleep or shuts down.  Then, when it comes back on, the brightness is stuck at wherever it was before. If I then reinstall the driver *again*, it fixes the problem ... until the next sleep/shutdown, when the problem reappears. A Lenovo support agent told me the only thing to do is a hard reset on the machine, restoring it to factory condition.  Obviously I'd rather not deal with that hassle if there's a less destructive way to fix the problem. Ideas?  Suggestions?

Hi everyone, I have a pretty weird tech problem.

What happens is, whenever I adjust my monitor's brightness (from its physical buttons) the screen turns black. However the monitor is still on, the LED is still green and the computer is still responsive, the screen just turns black.

I can use the computer just fine, as long as I don't try to adjust anything. If I do want to change something, I have to change the values a little, then restart, change them again, restart until I have the values I want. This problem appeared when I tried to adjust the brightness by keeping the + button pressed down, so it increased quickly.

Is this indicative of a dying monitor ? It is pretty old, it's an LG L1750SQ, 17 inch LCD, it's over 4 years old. Also, I do not believe the video card to the problem, since it stays pretty cool, it has a good heatsink on it.

I think any build-up of dust can lead to poor performance due to heat. And heat can lead to crashes, BSODs, etc.

The only way it still operates with any reliability is in Safe Mode with networking. That is what I am currently using now, and have experienced no issues while in Safe Mode. Also sometimes the OS freezes trying to execute programs like Excel or Chrome when viewing Google Maps. What always happens is that when playing Minecraft or Doom 3 it crashes within the minute: sound stops, screen goes black and then a CTD with display brightness at max. However, less demanding games like Starcraft and AoE II run fine. I've tried every option I could think of: I've replaced the HDD for a new SSD and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7, I've disassembled the entire laptop for dust cleaning and replaced both CPU and GPU thermal paste. In addition, I've tried countless GPU drivers, tested memory and CPU (OK) and GPU (UserBenchmark freezes, I didn't want to risk it with Furmark) Temperatures tested with Afterburner never went above 85°C.So, here's the question: Should I throw to the trash a $800 laptop for GPU failure or there's something else to do?Thanks in advance guys.

A:White screen and poor performance on HP laptop

The driver download page for that laptop should have an option to download UEFI and either install it on the laptop or make a bootable UEFI hardware diagnostic disk. It will test the video chip memory and let you know if it is bad.  It may have been an $800 laptop 6 years ago but is worth a lot less now and has provided good service. The motherboard could be replaced for maybe $200 and it sounds like you have the skills to do that. 6 or 7 years is acceptable service life for a laptop.  UEFI: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp51501-52000/sp51865.exe If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Whenever I go full screen on youtube it looks terrible. I have searched and searched and have no idea how to fix this. Can't even find someone with a similar problem.

Blurry and 256 colours. Something similar happens to the desktop when I leave fullscreen from VLC or VirtualBox. That makes sense though, I guess this is some metro related memory saving process. Anyone got any ideas how I could sort this out?

Non fullscreen:

A:Full screen flash video very poor quality

It's only as good as what the uploaders use to upload. Certain video will have multiple modes to view,
look on the bottom right corner to switch mode: 360p, 480p, 720p or 1080pAlso depends on how good & resolution your video card supports.

My new Acer laptop has very disappointing screen and video quality. The screen resolution is maxed-out at 1366 x 768 with Intel HD Graphics 4000. Those specs should be just fine for great visuals. My old desktop didn't come close to that but I could watch Youtube videos very well with no pixeling of image. Acer tech support said "new graphics driver download" and I did that , to no avail. Any ideas about settings adjustments etc.? My wife's 3 year old Acer has better screen quality than my new one.

A:Poor screen resolution and video on new Acer Laptop

Hmmm. Sounds like it could be a driver problem.

One of my Acers has the 4500MHD chip, this one has the HD 3000 chip, and I haven't had those issues.
Both run the latest drivers and standard (default) settings, and both play Youtube videos with no problems.
The 4500MHD is restricted to 1366x768, but that res is more than adequate for most purposes, the HD3000
will go to 1920x1080..
I get my drivers direct from the Intel site, not from Acer or Microsoft. This could be worth a try.

Hello, I just bought an HP Pavilion X2 with windows 10, working well, but the sound quality really isn't good, there seem to be no bass even with good headphones on.I've seen some stuff about drivers, but I don't if it would work because it's not the same computer. Thank you if anybody can help!

My son was given a laptop for his birthday last year and it has a cracked hinge.
After much research I've learned that this is a very common problem in this laptop. We called customer care center 2 different times and stayed on the phone for at least an hour each time. We were told a box would be sent out for repair. His laptop was still under the 1yr warranty at this time.
Today, we called again to get some answers and they have no record of us calling. (Surprise, surprise!) We still have not received any return box and his warranty has now, of course, expired.
I will never purchase another Dell product again in my life! Also I'll warn everyone I know to stay far away from your products.

A 16 yr old kid has a "new" computer that he uses a stack of books to prop the screen to use his $400 laptop! (because of a cheap screws and plastic casing)
This is unacceptable and shame on you Dell!

A:Poor Quality & Poor Customer Service!

We?re listening. We?ll surely have this reviewed and let you know with the right information. We don?t want to see our customers upset and inconvenienced. We request you to PM us with the service tag, registered owner?s name, your email address and any reference number in regards with the previous conversation with Dell. We?ll be more than happy to look into it and assist you further.

I purchased my HP X2 12-b020nr about a month ago and all of the updates have been completed.  The sound is tinny.  I don't see any controls for bass and treble.  It is hard to listen to the music.  I had to add an external blue tooth speaker.  It was easy to set up but for traveling it would be nice if the speakers worked better.
