June 2017 IE patch detected as missing even though its superseded patch is installed sucessfully

Q: June 2017 IE patch detected as missing even though its superseded patch is installed sucessfully

Dear Experts,

I have few queries :
> i have been pacthing IE on win 2012 R2 servers from Oct 2017 and the latest deployed pacth is April 2018 roll out. but when i scan these server by Vulnerability scanners- it detects june 2017 IE patch missing(which i know was never deplyed as
i started patching from Oct 2017 ) and i believe this June 2017 IE patch requires below registry key to be present , which they are not :
The following registry key is missing.
This registry key is required to enable the fix for CVE-2017-8529:
SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_ENABLE_PRINT_INFO_DISCLOSURE_FIX\iexplore.exe
SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_ENABLE_PRINT_INFO_DISCLOSURE_FIX\iexplore.exe
My Query is -
Does the installation of the superseding patch adds/updates the registry keys required for the patch it supersedes. In this case should the successfull installation of April 2018 IE patch be adding these registry keys required for June 2017 IE patch.
if not is there any documentation related to this ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiya

Microsoft has released a patch that eliminates a security vulnerability in Visual Studio RAD (Remote Application Deployment) Support, an optional sub-component of FrontPage Server Extensions. This sub-component contains an unchecked buffer in a section that processes input information. By establishing a web session on with the server and passing a specially malformed packet to the server component, an attacker could cause code of his choice to run on the server.

OK, so after getting spooked by the "hidden agenda" of a series of recent 7 updates that apparently track your computing habits and install Windows 10 nagware, I uninstalled all the updates on my computer and have decided to start from scratch.

I just got a notice about a series of updates coming in on "Patch Tuesday" (9 June) of this month. I've looked up some of them and they seem to be somewhat important (I hid all the "recommended" ones which were nothing more than Windows 10 crap), but I'm curious to know what exactly do they "patch" or otherwise do, and how do they do it.

In layman's terms.

Microsoft's security bulletins are too technical for my understanding and I want to make sure I'm not installing adware, nagware, spyware -- or upgradeware.

The updates are:
KB3058515, Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (and which has apparently had some problems)
KB3033890, Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (apparently something to do with Windows Media Player)
KB3057839, Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3059317, Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3063858, Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
The last one is just MRT (KB890830) which I know to be safe.

For the first two, do I need to install them if I never use IE or WMP? I actually have them "turned off" (inaccessible) in Programs & Features. Should ... Read more

A:June 2015 Patch Tuesday updates: What do they do?

I installed them all including 11 or 12 for MS Office products. The only problem I had was with Word on the first use after the updates. For some reason, it reset Add-in security and I had to OK one that I have but don't use often. (PDF generator)

This is a cumulative patch that includes the functionality of
all previously released patches for Windows Media Player 6.4, 7.1
and Windows Media Player for Windows XP. In addition, it eliminates
the following three newly discovered vulnerabilities one of which
is rated as critical severity, one of which is rated moderate
severity, and the last of which is rated low severity:

- An information disclosure vulnerability that could provide
the means to enable an attacker to run code on the user's
system and is rated as critical severity.

- A privilege elevation vulnerability that could enable an attacker
who can physically logon locally to a Windows 2000 machine and run
a program to obtain the same rights as the operating system.

- A script execution vulnerability related that could run a script
of an attacker's choice as if the user had chosen to run it after
playing a specially formed media file and then viewing a specially
constructed web page. This particular vulnerability has specific
timing requirements that makes attempts to exploit vulnerability
difficult and is rated as low severity.

It also introduces a configuration change relating to file extensions
associated with Windows Media Player. Finally, it introduces a new,
optional, security configuration feature for users or organizations
that want to take extra precautions beyond applying IE patch MS02-023
and want to disable scripting functionality in the

First up is build 15063.540, which is available for users with the Creators Update installed on their PCs and phones. You can install it manually here. Here's what's new:

Addressed issue where the policies provisioned using Mobile Device Management (MDM) should take precedence over policies set by provisioning packages.
Addressed issue where the Site to Zone Assignment List group policy (GPO) was not set on machines when it was enabled.
Addressed issue where the AppLocker rules wizard crashes when selecting accounts.
Addressed issue where the primary computer relationship is not determined when you have a disjoint NetBIOS domain name for your DNS Name. This prevents folder redirection and roaming profiles from successfully blocking your profile or redirects folders to a non-primary computer.
Addressed issue where an access violation in the Mobile Device Manager Enterprise feature causes stop errors.
Security updates to Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Windows Search Component, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Windows PDF Library, Windows Hyper-V, Windows Server, Windows kernel-mode drivers, Windows Subsystem for Linux, Windows shell, Common Log File System Driver, Internet Explorer, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.
Obviously, there aren't a lot of fixes for version 1703, as it received an update just a week ago. There is one known issue to be aware of though:

PCs on the Fall Creators Update will see KB4048955, or build 16299.64. You can manually download it here, and it includes the following fixes:

Addressed issue that causes the Mixed Reality Portal to stop responding on launch.
Addressed issue that causes a black screen to appear when you switch between windowed and full-screen modes when playing some Microsoft DirectX games.
Addressed a compatibility issue that occurs when you play back a Game DVR PC recording using Android or iOS devices.
Addressed issue where the functional keys stop working on Microsoft Designer Keyboards.
Addressed issue to ensure that certain USB devices and head-mounted displays (HMD) are enumerated properly after the system wakes up from Connected Standby.

Hi,

I've noticed users having installed the June updates cannot open certain attachments. They are automatically blocked by outlook 2010. So far I've seen .pdf and .docx blocked and the only common factor is the length of the name (so long they were truncated and have the "....docx" at the end). Users who haven't installed the updates yet can access the attachments without any problem.

Level1Remove in the registry doesn't work.

Has anyone else encounter this issue? And does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks,

G

A:Outlook 2010 blocked long filename attachments since June patch

Hi G,

Exactly the same here, still looking for a fix. I tried the Level1Remove in the registry doesn't work with no luck.

In addition to not being able to open attachments our users can't send them. The only temp fix I have is to shorted the file names to just a few characters.

Second time this Month MS has caused problems with updates.

Unauthorized Patch For Microsoft WMF Bug Sparks Controversy

Sober worm may hit tomorrow, but businesses are more concerned about the WFM vulnerability and Microsoft's inability to produce a patch this week. Some are choosing an alternative that could lead to other problems.

By Larry Greenemeier
InformationWeek

Jan 4, 2006 01:00 PM

Concerns over the lack of a Microsoft-issued patch have pushed the Windows Metafile/Zero-Day bug to top of mind, surpassing even tomorrow's much-anticipated Sober worm attack.

The lag time between the Dec. 27 discovery of the WMF vulnerability and Microsoft's planned Jan. 10 patch availability has forced IT security departments to find alternative means for protecting their systems and prompted a non-Microsoft developer to create a patch that others could use.

All of this serves to damage Microsoft's reputation as a company that can secure its own productsa reputation that only recently was beginning to improve after years of being dragged through the mud. Experts are divided over whether it's wise to use Ilfak Guilfanov's Hexblog patch to fix the WMF vulnerability, which could allow attackers to use WMF images to execute malicious code on their victims' computers. Some say it's a necessary measure to protect systems until the official Microsoft patch arrives; others say it's not worth the extra work to patch twice or to take the risk of using a third-party fix.

I defragged, did scans with norton antivirus, adaware se, spybot , spyware blaster, and also did a trend micro house call. there were no problems.
However, my first scan was a2 and it came back with this weird messsage...."Access violation at address 77E7A6B1 in module 32.dll" and then the message "no malware". Does anyone know what this is all about????
I would appreciate comments, thankyou. I simply don't get it!!!!!!!!!!!!! i should say that the box is running fine, however, i would like to know what this is all about as i just did another scan with a2 and it did the same thing again....never before!!!!!

I downloaded and installed the msblaster phase 2 security patch twice mistakenly. Now when I move files from one folder to another it takes a long time (2 or 3 minutes) and I can't join Battlefield 1942 multiplayer games. How do I remove the patch so that I can install it properly?

A:Installed win xp security patch twice

only way I know of is by add/remove programs.. it would be the hotfix 823980

Hi everybody, i have a doubt. Between patches of August which is for the kernel (KB3177725) i decided postpone it to install it later. But now I want to install patches September and no longer see the KB3177725 there to download.
In this case, I should proceed to install the new kernel (KB3175024, September) and not worry about the previous that is no longer on the list of WU ?

I've installed the patch from a yuri revenge's disk, tried to go online and it says "the game needs to be updated to play online"... well it already is version 1.006!!

Then when i go to update, it won't connect. says a "connection could not be made".

so i downloaded the patch from download.com, installed it, it said it installed succesfully...

then i go in, try to get online again, same thing "need to get patch", "connection failed".

I turned my firewall down and everything....

Running windows xp.

p.s. please don't turn this into a "ea games is gay" thread. we all, already know that.

Hello,
I'm trying to create a new image for Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard with all of the latest updates already injected or slipstreamed into the ISO. I found a number of different ways to do this but it all has the basic principals of using DISM to achieve
it.
The best way I found was to use a free tool called NTLite to help automate the process some. I'm running into a weird issue though where NTLite will appear to inject all of the updates into the ISO, but I have doubts as to if it truly does.
The reason I'm questioning it is because after it says it took the approximately 180 updates and injected them into the new .wim file, the new .wim file is only about 400 Mb bigger than the original. I did try an in place upgrade of a 2008 R2 server using
the new ISO with the new .wim, and it seemed fine. While checking the view installed updates under Programs and Features it did show all of the new updates as well. Great I thought. But then when I went to scan for new updates using Microsoft's update site,
it showed that I needed around 180 updates. I compared the list from the updates site and what was in View Installed Updates and they were all of the same. I continued with the installation and it went through and installed all of them fine.
So that made me think - did it actually install the updates with the new ISO or no? Or did it just report that they were there when in reality they were not. Right after the upgrade with the new ISO, I checked the Download... Read more

I want to run a script or query to see if a specific patch number has been installed on a number of machines. Most all are XP.

For example - I want to ensure that KB958644 is install for Conflicker - for example. Digging through the Control Panel and Installed Programs is too time consuming to do in mass in an office (where no other tools exist).

I know the info is in the registry - so a script to query those keys would work too.

I just need some simple code to execute.

A:Query for specific patch installed system?

Hi,

I have just written the following vbScript function. If computer name is just a dot '.' then the computer is local. If you have the permissions on your network you can type in a remote computer to check.

This will work on XP, but will NOT work for Vista. Vista does not use the Win32_QuickFixEngineering class in the same way.

Pivot tables do not appear properly anymore after Q321232 patch is installed. This occurs on updates on Win2k machines running IE 5.5 SP1, SP2, and IE 6.0 with Office 2000. The tables open up fine on machines without this patch installed. Any ideas as to what is the solution to this? Please advise.

We have a mission critical program that now crashes because of the patch KB3160005 that was uploaded to all of our Windows 7 Professional computers on 6/14/16. When the employee tries to open a PDF in this program, IE11 hangs and the PDF will not open either.
IE11 must be shutdown. Our work around is to remove KB3160005 and then check for the updates and when it appears to hide it and this fixes the problem.

This update is shown to be critical according to TechNet and so I would like to know which one of the 5 patches incorporated into the patch is actually causing the problem and what we can do to fix it and not lose the update by removing it.
Windows 10 Professional will sometime exhibit the same issues with the same mission critical program, but the patch KB3160005 is not on any of the systems I have looked at, so I have to merely reset the browser and then all is well after that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is taking up all of the helpdesk's time resetting this patch and making our employees efficient again.
Thank you,

I should have known better after the last time this happened than to let Windows install updates automatically, but here I am again, and worse off than last time.

Here's what's happened. I run twin 3TB WD hard drives. My boot drive is a 1.5TB dynamic partition that has a Windows mirror on the twin drive. The rest of the space is divvied up amongst various other volumes for various purposes.

After this past PAtch Tuesday, Windows did its business installing 11 updates since the last Patch Tuesday, and upon rebooting, my second 3TB drive was just missing. On, it's there -- BIOS recognizes it and I can boot from the second plex, though it just went into Windows Repair mode, which accomplished nothing as it was unable to repair anything. However, Disk Management regarded the entire drive as missing. Reactivating solved nothing but a "The Plex is missing" error. I tried disconnecting the drive, rebooting, shutting down, reconnected and rebooting again, but no luck. Same deal. I tried a rollback to three days ago, but the damage was apparently already done. Still no luck. I tried removing the C mirror in the hopes that this would help. Nope, the twin drive now only shows 3 partitions (instead of 4) with the mirror partition just totally gone. I can't reactivate the drive at all, whether from Disk Management or DISKPART from the command line. Nothing works.

I freaking hate Windows update for doing this.

This happened once before several months ago. I was... Read more

Then and error message saying "This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package"
I tried to repair office but can't get in. CD will not open either. Reinstalled XP no good. Will someone please help? I have attached a Log from HJT if it will help.
Thanks
