Malware Malfunction...

Q: Malware Malfunction...

I posted over in Vista OS forum and was told my problem might be malware....here is where I'm at - would be really greatful for any help.Last week I installed Office 2007, but Outlook wouldn't send email. Despite changing my anti virus to AVG in an attempt to solve this, it still didn't work.I then tried to un-install Office - but it froze half way each time. I manually sent all the programme files to the recycle bin but the computer wouldn't delete all of them.So I reinstalled Office, outlook wouldn't send again and on trying to delete the programme I encountered the same set of problems.Feeling I had no other choice I carried out a system restore. All three times it didn't complete, citing a system fault/power cut.How can I make it all better? Is there anymore info I need to give to get help from you guys? - I'm operating on Vista UltimateI tried on safe mode and still no luck, below is the problems as I try to system restore..thenAnd once my computer has rebooted and taken 5 minutes to think about it, this comes up......

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

MY LAPTOP IS POSSESSED I TELL YA!!! Yesterday something went seriously wrong. My computer shut off by itself while I was surfing the web and wouldn't start up. It tried to start up by itself few times but shut back down right away. ok so I happened to spill a few drops of liquid on the keyboard (nothing that hasn't happened before) but this time my machine went berzerk 10 minutes after. I turned it on a few hours later and it started up fine. A volume control on my screen appeared for the first time and didn't go away no matter what i did, even after a full system recovery. It went away after I fiddled with my sound card properties. Just when one problem seemed to be resolved, another more insane one appeared. Every time I turn on my wireless connection with the click of a button on my computer, thousands and thousands of browser windows start opening by themselves. SCARY! I THOUGHT MY COMPUTER WILL EXPLODE! No home page on any of them, just the "Page cannot be displayed" on IE7. Once the wireless connection is turned on, i can't turn it off like i could before with the same button that turns it on. The only way is to unplug my power cord to stop the madness and turn the wireless off. When I connect to the internet via ethernet cable, everything works fine. But as soon as I hit that wireless button, all hell breaks loose in different ways. Another way is the keyboard stops working and when I connect an external keyboard, the letter J types itself... Hello,

I can not find anything else on the Internet specifically in this situation it would be a great help if any of you have any answers for me, or perhaps I am freaking out too much.

I occasionally use the Microsoft Edge inbuilt app on my Xbox One, yesterday I was using it and I got the Popup/Malware with a bleeping noise along the lines of 'Dear Customer, a serious malfunction has been detected with Microsoft Edge. blah blah blah. Please call this toll free number'' - I instantly new it was a scam, I have seen similar pop ups before. However this just kept up on opening new windows, and I had no idea how to get it off, even when restarting, so i just shut my xbox off. (Does this mean you are still on these popups in a sense for a day???)

Anyway I was going to get around to sorting it today, but just before my home phone rang a relative picked up the phone and was being told about a computer problem, an error on the computer etc. I took the phone and a man with an asian accent, saying he was a Microsoft Technician or something wanted to know 'who was using a microsoft computer', I kept refuting him saying no one was and he got quite impatient and angry so I put the phone down. ----> I instantly guessed the call was related to this xbox browser incident...

I would just like to highlight I or anyone gave any details or information to these people.

I can quite clearly see he is a scammer and have researched this, but I am finding that peo... Read more

I recently purchased an HP ProBook 450 G3. I am using two passport compact 1 TB drives with my laptop's two USB 3.0 ports. In normal use there is no problem. However, when I copy a lot of data from one to the other (or from one to the laptop's internal drive) the drives keep disconnecting. I know this because first I will get a copying error saying either the source or the destination is missing. Then I will hear the "chime" that Windows makes when a USB device connects or disconnects. Then the autoplay window for the Passport drive will appear. It seems that it spontaneously disconnects and then reconnects. I can continue using it for a time afterward, but it always spontaneously disconnects at some point, always when I am doing large data transfers.

I wondered if I have a poor physical connection---the USB plugs seem a bit loose. I checked if there is any vibration or movement that could break the connection, but so far there is no evidence that anything is moving. The disconnection always happens when a lot of data is being transferred, while the drives are sitting completely still.

Any ideas how to debug this?

A:Hard drive malfunction? USB port malfunction? Or just normal?

This is a hard situation to diagnose from a distance IMO. "Loose" is somewhat subjective, and barring serious abuse the only kinds of usb connectors & ports I've ever seen fail mechanically are mini and micro USB2 types.

I'd be inclined to suspect the drives first, especially if they are from the same family and were produced around the same time (the "bad batch" phenomenon). Have you tried to reproduce the problem on other machines, or with different drives on your machine?

Hello all,

Well, to get right into it, my PSU conked out. I shut down my computer (Start > Turn Off Computer . . .), it didn't automatically turn off like it normally does. So, I tried the power switch, nothing happened. Finally, I flipped the switch on the PSU. Obviously, it was off now.
The next day, I went to turn it on, and it didn't. I tested the power switch, it was fine, so the next thing to check was the PSU. Took it to a computer service store, they tested it, it was dead. I sent it back to the company, they sent me a brand new one. And that brings us to today.

I installed the PSU in my computer, hooked it up to everything (mb, harddrive, video card, CD-Rom, fans). I pushed the power button, the PSU lit up (it has a lighted fan on it) and the fan went on, this lasted about a second, then it shut off. Well, then I went through step-by-step:
- Connected only the motherboard to the PSU - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard and the larger fan - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, and the harddrive - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, hard drive, and video card - turned on, stayed on, did not beep. (apparently it was beeping because there was no video output.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, hard drive, video card, and plugged everything into the back of the computer - turned on, stayed on.
- Connected everything listed above, plus the smaller fan, turned an... Read more

A:PSU Malfunction

Although there are things like power surges and lightning strikes that could kill a PSU, there is really no reason to try to come up with a scenario for what happened. Often they just die and it can be without warning. I think you are saying that now everything works. If the new PSU suddenly quits then you may have a problem that needs to be figured out.

The fan set up looks pretty standard.

Hi sunsandy4u and welcome to TSF,

Have you looked in the Task Manager to see if you have any Yellow marks by the usb hubs on the tree in the left pane? If so, that would indicate a driver problem.

My modem is usb and required a download into it for it to function properly. The software came with the modem. Also, try another usb port if you have one on your computer.

Hope this might help,

DEP processing is flaky. Setting /noexecute=OptOut and adding HP digital monitor to the exceptions list does not cause DEP enable for all processes.

No 'restart needed' popup is displayed....
?? CHROME, AVAST, FIREFOX all show DEP (permanent). All others DISABLED.....
?? setting /noexecute=AlwaysOn works, all processes DEP'd, BUT disallows HP digital monitor (can print, cannot scan or retrieve printer info).
I do have Administrator privileges but thought I noticed a popup (IIRC) re two items (processes?) not functioning, CIMV2? perhaps and one other. WBEMTEST checked for DEP 3 (OptOut), verified it was set (I forget the Superclass now, under root/cimv2).
Is this a Startup issue of some kind? Something not loading? GPEDIT under XP not helpful unless DISabling access to various options.
Thanks.... :-/

Hello everyone, first time poster, so sorry if I mess up ^^

Anyways, I just got a new laptop, specifically a Lenovo 80XS0086IX Ideapad 320-15ABR. Initially it all seemed fine, but as I used it I noticed several problems: 1) it cannot remain in sleep mode for long. After a while, it just switches off abruptly. I have tried several combinations of lid closed/open, power cord in/out, but eventually the result is always the same. 2) When powering it on after these shutdowns, the trackpad does not recognize multiple-fingers gestures, requiring a restart. 3) The disk usage frequently goes up to 100% despite no ongoing activity. 4) Sometimes, pressing the power button to power it on results in the disk starting, then abruptly stopping, then restarting again several times, before the laptop finally starts. 5) The system sometimes freezes for several seconds, even the cursor stops, only to resume any input movement later.

I have tried everything in my knowledge: I updated the BIOS, the HDD firmware, installed all Windows updates, fresh-installed Windows, but nothing seems to work (although the HDD thing apparently solved the "always 100%" problem). I ran both Windows in-built check-disk and third party programs to check for errors on the HDD, but none showed up. I'd be really glad if it was something I can fix at home, since I really need this machine to study, so sending it to be repaired/replaced back at Amazon is my very last option due to time. Hope you guys can h... Read more

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with XP Home Edition on it. All of my drives and devices connect externally and I access them through 3 different USB ports. A week ago I began having problems with my USB ports.

When I turn on my laptop, the devices (a mouse, keyboard and printer) initially are recognized and run well. Then I hear the noise from the comp as if I unplugged a device and my mouse, keyboard and printer are all no longer recognized by the comp. Sometimes I hear the noise as if I plugged them back in, sometimes I don't hear that noise but get an error message saying that my devices are not working properly and need to be replaced. All of my devices are in reality functioning properly. There does not seem to be consistency in when the USB ports stop functioning. During this time I am not touching the connections and at times am not even actively using the comp.

Do I have a trojan virus? or are my USB ports beginning to simply malfunction?
Any suggestions would be really appreciated. I can't do much with a laptop that cannot save a file to a disk or print a file. I have ad ware and spy ware removal tools (ad aware, spybot search and destroy, spyguard) as well as an updated firewall and antivirus (zone alarm suite) running on the comp. No major risks or problems have been found by these programs.
Thanks!

Hi all. I'm having some trouble with Vista, or maybe its my MoBo. I recently installed Vista on my home premium edition, ran good. My old motherboard was, shall i say blown up :), so i replaced it with a FoxConn Winfast 761GXK8MB, during the process of upgrading i lost my partition of windows vista, not sure how. I tried a clean install using the vista disk, setup formats my partition, does some installing and reboots, it loads up vista. Suddenly @Hardware [email protected] comes up with a blue background Click Here.
I am not that famillar with vista, but im sure its the MoBo. I rebooted, and loaded up in safe mode, vista loads up but before it get to the desktop, a message box appears and says that i must reboot into normal mode to complete instalation and restarts. I was thinking it might be a MoBo and driver issue, but i can't know for sure until it boots into normal mode and completes seup. Has anyone come accross this problem and can give me any assistance.

Thanks in advance.

A:Hardware Malfunction

When you say that you "lost your partition" I wonder if that means the disk was damaged somehow. If this is the case then you may be trying to reinstall back on to a damaged disk.

You could try going on to the website of your hard disk manufacturer (will say on the disk itself) and seeing if they provide a disk checking utility. It will probably come in the form of a CD image (.iso file) which you can burn to a CD and boot your poorly computer from. the utility will then run and check the disk for errors.

Unfortunately, when I finished reinstalling the OS and compatible drivers, I noticed something strange in my system logs and in my device manager.

In the device manager, I have this error message for my processor:Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)
I right-clicked each processor entry for my Intel i5 processor and clicked on Uninstall. After doing so, I click on Action -> Scan for hardware changes... Then all the processors reappeared, with the same error message as before.

In the system logs, I noticed warning messages errors for event ID 219, source - Kernel-PnP.

The error message for the event is:
The driver \Driver\intelppm failed to load for the device ACPI\GenuineIntel_-_Intel64_Family_6_Model_30_-_Intel(R)_Core(TM)[email protected]_2.67GHz\_0.

I tried downloading the latest driver chipset from Intel and installing, but nothing has helped me. I am having strange issues that I did not experience in Win 7 32-bit:
- Digital output from my Soundblaster Audigy is intermittent
- Desktop Manager (Aero) stop working and the theme ch... Read more

Welcome to Seven Forums jcaum. Did you download your 64 bit version and burn the iso, or is it a Retail or OEM version? If you downloaded it and burned the iso you need to burn at the lowest speed 2-4x otherwise sometimes you can get a bad burn.Fabe

Hi, my son has a Compaq presarion comp, that developed a perculiar habit three weeks ago. When you want to bring up Task Monitor with the ctrl+alt+del keys you can't use the usual ones as I or most others do. You have to press the Alt Gr key + the right hand ctrl key and the del key above the cursor keys. It did work as normal up to 3 weeks ago. Thelanguage selection is still correct English British in control panel as are all other settings. Would be greatful if anyone has a clew what has screwed up, because I'm stumped, Yours STUMPED in uk

Not sure if this is an appropriate forum for this device, but here goes anyway:

For my bookshelf stereo system (an AIWA), I purchased a Maxell CD Lens Cleaner (w/ brush.)

I ran it in the machine for the appropriate period of time.

Now, some of my CD's don't work, in that the display never shows the total track length...hence they wont play.

What happened?

Thanks in advance,

We have a HP2100 connected to our W2K network. Whenever you send a print job to it, the light next to the "Go" button on the printer will blink. Nothing from the job you send will come out until you push the button. And when you have a document over 1 page, it requires you to push the button for EVERY page of the document (ugh!). I checked HP's website (so helpful) and the closest thing I could find was this:

The printer may be in manual feed mode (Go light blinking).
Add paper to Tray 1 and press and release the GO button.

I have checked the printer settings on the server and on my workstation - they have Letter paper with Auto Select as the defaults. I have tried setting it to pickup from Tray1 and 2, nothing.

Please help, this is very annoying!!! I don't want to have to call the $80/hr service people...it has to be something simple.

P.S. I hate printers that don't have a control panel that lets you change setting in them.

hi, i am new here and not sure where to post this. i think its a hardware problem so i will post it here

my computer seems to be refreshing/displaying poorly. sometimes text doesnt show up , graphics display is what looks like 16-256 colors, if they even display at all , then the soundcard, which is onboard also is messed up. when i play audio it sounds like aliens are trying to make a radio contact with me. at first i thought it was a drivers problem so i uninstalled my display drivers <my card is made by ATI, and is a radeon 9200 chipset> and i reinstalled my drivers but the problem was still there. so now i am thinking that my videocard is damaged but if my videocard was damaged then why would my onboard soundcard be effected as well. this made me think that maybe it could be a problem with directX so i downloaded the latest directX9.0c. i ran the tests on Glide and Direct3d, the tests on Glide in the video tab worked fine but when i ran the test for Direct3d. the cube with the directX logos wasnt even a cube shape. everything was spiked and the thing really had no shape at all. also the static is strongest when you run the sound tests in dxdiag. so now i think that i think that i just have some nasty software glitches. so i reformated my harddrive<i only have 1 harddrive> and i reinstall windows98. at first with the basic SiS AGP drivers installed the problem seemed to be fixed. except for the messed up colors. but thats normal because i didnt have any real d... From your post, I understand the problem does not show up until you installed the newest ATI drivers. If that is correct, D/L and install a set of older drivers. Make sure you uninstall the ones in use now first. I use the same video card as you. It is not the greatest thing around. And updating to the latest drivers ain't gonna make it any better. If you use heavy graphics or play serious games, invest in a "real" vid card. Good luck.

I have an Epson WF-3540 printer. I have used Epson printers for years with no major problems. My black cartridge will not print. Ive put in new cartridges, cleaned the head many times with no printing results. Epson is at a loss of what to do. I just wonder if anyone had any suggestion on what what I can do. In the past I was able to reset the pads but this is not something that can be done on this model apparently

I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not. Feel free to move it if I've placed it wrong.

I've got a Dell Optiplex GX280, Windows XP Pro SP2, and a DVD burner and for some reason, DVD-Rs won't play in it anymore. Commercial DVDs seem to work, but DVD-Rs won't. I've got one in there right now, and it won't even recognize there's a disc in there.

The software that pops up when a commercial DVD is put in is that PowerDVD proggy. It won't recognize my DVD-Rs either.
