X1 Yoga going to sleep after flipping lid

Q: X1 Yoga going to sleep after flipping lid

I just spent the last 30 minutes searching for this issue and can't seem to find anyone else who is having this problem. The issue I'm having is that whenever I flip the lid to go into tablet mode, the machine seems to go into sleep or hibernate. It doesn't do it 100% of the time, but it will always do it when I really need to go into OneNote to take some quick notes but instead waste time having to flip it around again, log in, and flip back into tablet mode a second time. Occasionally, it will shut down completely instead of going to sleep, or resume but with a blank screen, forcing me to manually power it off by holding the power button, but these occurances aren't nearly as frequent as it going into sleep. Another thing I noted is that when it resumes from the sleep mode it goes into, sometimes the Lenovo Battery Guage will show up with a red X, as though a battery isn't detected. I find it odd because the machine functions just fine on battery. If I plug in the AC power in this state, it will recognize the AC power as plugged in, but the battery gauge's status of "no battery" does not change. If I open the battery app, it properly detects the battery and its charge level. Things I have done to attempt resolution:* Disable all sleep/hibernate mode options in Windows Power Manager* Checked all applicable settings in the Lenovo Settings app* Ensure system was up to date with all Windows Updates, as well as all applicable Lenovo drivers and firmware using the Lenovo System Update tool* Right before posting this, I disconnected the battery cable and re-seated. I have small hopes of this resolving the issue. ** Note: The system was reimaged with a fresh Windows 10 install a couple of days after purchasing (early February) due to a strange ghost touch issue with the screen. Randomly it would detect touches along the left edge of the screen even though I was not touching the screen, so this would prevent the touchscreen from working properly when I went to use it as intended. This seems to have resolved it for the most part as it doesn't happen frequently anymore, most likely to the firmware update that was released, but the reimaging is something to take into consideration. This same issue with it going into sleep happened even with the factory Lenovo image that was on the computer prior to reimaging. ** Any help provided would be appreciated! Thanks,BP

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: X1 Yoga going to sleep after flipping lid

I guess I've come up with a diagnosis and a partial solution. The problem apparently was the computer constantly failing to see the battery installed. It would randomly detect the battery as not being installed, even when I was on battery and the machine stayed on just fine. The battery has been functioning perfectly in the sense that I could operate off of AC power without issue, but the Power Gauge would show no battery being detected, then eventually it would come back and be fine, showing the proper charge level. The reason the machine kept "turning off", or in this case Hibernating, was because Windows is set to either go to Sleep or Hiberate when it reaches the "Critical battery action" percentage in the Power Manager. Because the battery would no longer be detected, the "Critical battery action" would kick in because it would think the battery is completely out of juice. Unfortunately, Windows does not allow you to set this action to "Do nothing", offering only the options of "Sleep" or "Hibernate". The partial solution:I followed a procedure I found for another model. It involved the following steps: 1) Go into the BIOS2) Disable the battery3) Shut down machine and disconnect the battery4) Plug in AC power and boot into the OS5) Shut down the machine, disconnect AC, and press the power button 10 times6) Reconnect the battery and AC and boot into Windows So far, after doing that procedure, it hasn't detected the battery as missing. This was about a week ago that I performed this procedure and so far so good. Just in case, I also did a registry hack that allowed me to set the "Critical battery action" as "Do Nothing". A link outlining the procedure is here: https://hodgkins.io/setting-critical-battery-action-to-do-nothing-in-windows-7

When I move my screen past 180 degrees and the visual display flips over, the quality of the sound changes and sounds more muddy.  This does not happen if I manually switch to tablet mode, only when physcially moving the screen so that the display flips over.  Has anyone else experienced this issue? It isn't just that the speakers are on the bottom.  If if hold the base of the laptop in one position and move the screen until it automaticlly rotates, the sound clearly changes even though I don't move the speakers location relative to my ears.  I can't seem to find anything in settings.

Last night I finished browsing and flipped down the laptop monitor, putting it to sleep. When I flipped open the monitor today the first thing I saw was a BSOD message. I haven't really noticed any unusual behavior other than this, except for one instance recently when I performed a similar task and noticed one of those memory access error messages on screen that looks something like x000000000017 and then some technical jargon. I can't remember if I clicked on the close tab for that or it disappeared on it's own, and I unfortunately didn't get a screen cap and lack the know-how on how to retrieve that log if there is one.

Here are my basic specs and the two zip files (perfmon log and the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 file)

- Windows 7 Home Premium
- OEM

- Hardware from 2010 or so
- Current OS installation a month or so old

Hello, we got 2x Try-and-Buy Lenovo Yoga Tablet Laptops (an X1 Yoga and a Yoga 260) to evaluate their suitability for our company, since we intend to upgrade several of our employees laptops. However, ever since we got the devices we noticed on both of them frequent issues with the display and waking from sleep. Very often the laptops won't wake up properly with the screen staying black. In those cases the display-backlight seems to turn on, and I assume the system is running somehow in the background. Putting the computer to sleep again (e.g. by closing the lid) makes the computer wake up properly on the second attempt. Different error in the same category is when a video is running and the laptop is connected to AC - plugging out the AC cord made the screen go black while the media content's sound kept playing. All drivers were updated to the newest version via Lenovo System Update 5.07.0029. Any ideas? I also tried to open a support ticket, but Lenovo wanted to send and install a new display (!). Apparently, that seems like a driver/software issue?! Best regards

In the past 2 days, my new Yoga 14 has gone to sleep while in use. If I check the event log, the sleep reason is button or lid. I've got about 2 weeks left on the return window and will probably return if I can't find a solution for this.

I recently bought an X1 Yoga 3rd Gen for a user at work and I want to love it - the machine is gorgeous, physically well built, best screen I've seen on a laptop, wonderful key feel, etc. But the thing doesn't work. When it goes to sleep (lid closed or selecting sleep in Windows) it simply will not turn the screen back on. I'm on the latest BIOS (and tried the last one). 1709 and 1803. All the drivers from the Lenovo site or none of them (Windows Update drivers only), doesn't matter. No combination of anything I do to this machine will get it to turn the screen on when waking from sleep. I have to give my user a computer, and I'm at a total loss for what to do next - any ideas?

Hi all, I've had a Yoga 13 for nearly a full year now with no problems until recently, when the laptop has constantly failed to enter sleep mode when the lid is closed. As a result, the laptop will continue to run in my bag until the battery drained. It is not a problem of rewaking when closed, as the screen will remain on with lid closure and the laptop never enters sleep mode. Is there a way to tell if this is being caused by a software problem (recent update to 8.1) or if the hardware involved in sensing a closed lid is now faulty? Steps already taken:Usng advice from a previous thread, I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software - this does not solve any conflicts with Window's own energy management.Power options shows that device is supposed to sleep on lid closure - changing settings to hibernate did not cause machine to hibernate on lid closure either.Powercfg shows no wake timers, -devicequery wake_armed shows "RTL8723A 4.0 + High Speed Chip." However, these should only be impacting the problem if it was waking from sleep - my device never enters sleep in the first place. Thanks for the help - hopefully I can fix this while hanging on to this fantastic laptop.

A:Yoga 13 does not sleep on lid closure

I know I'm digging up an old post and I'm not sure if you've figured it out. I also had this problem and I think I've 'fixed' it. When I was trying to diagnose the problem, I too tried to watch the screen closely as I closed the lid. I noticed that right before the magnets click together, I saw a notification appear on the screen. If you open the lid again fast enough, you might be able to see the message. The message I saw was a digalog box asking me if I wanted to enable tablet mode. This made me think that for some reason, the laptop thought I was actually folding the screen backwards (into tablet mode) when I was actually closing the lid. What I did was to fold the screen all the way back, waited for the computer to show the dialog box, I chose an answer (I think I chose 'Always ask'), and then folded it back into regular laptop mode. I closed the lid, the screen turned off, and the computer went into sleep mode (the setting I chose in Power Options). Hope this helps.

I had posted about this near the start of 2016 and then a BIOS update was released to fix the issue. The Yoga 900 wakes up from sleep when picked up and rotated. Previously, the issue was with the screen hitting the buttons and waking the laptop up. Now, I think it might have to do with rotating it when it is asleep. I do not have this problem if I rotate the laptop as it is going to sleep, only if I pick it up after it has gone to sleep. I have been having this issue since the last BIOS update was released. Hi there, I'm not sure if this topic's been brought up since I couldn't find it. But I recently purchased the Yoga 920, and everything works fine except that the laptop goes to sleep after some time on it's own. I've changed the power settings for both screen lid down as well as the "put computer to sleep" to "nothing" and "never" respectively and it still happens. Even in my advanced power settings, there's only a very limited power menu. Also possibly related, there's only a "balanced" power plan, no battery saver or high performance. Regardless, it's driving me insane and any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I've has a history of sleep issues on my yoga 3 pro that came with Windows 10. Short History-------------1) Work properly for a few months after purchase2) The issue started (Laptop starts sleep process, screen goes blank, keyboard stays lighted, power stays lighted. It never goes to sleep, I cannot wake it, and need to hold the power button down for 10 seconds (i.e. kill power entirely))3) After many driver updates I still had the problem. I can only assume a Windows update started the issue but who knows.4) I noticed a BIOS update from Lenovo the other day so I gave that a shot. I was at version ***56*** and it was ***58****. It fixed the issue!5) Received Windows Update (Build 1607, Anniversary update) and now the problem is back. I've disabled sleep entirely as my current solution, but would like sleep to function as intended. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix? Does anyone know the root cause? Thanks

Yeah, so it eventually turns off on its own to the point where the Windows logo below the monitor no longer vibrates when pushed and I have to power on the machine. Might just do a restore and see what happens from there...

Hi everyone,  I bought a Yoga 920 about a month ago, and in the last week or so have had an issue with the computer's sleep function. Essentially, when I put the computer to sleep (either by shutting the lid or clicking using the mouse or pressing the power button), after a few minutes, it will not wake like you would expect it to do so under regular operation. The only way to awaken the laptop is to hold the power button and do a hard reset. This has caused me to have to do a hard reset multiple times a day.  The issue appears to be similar to this: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/34896  Has anyone had a similar problem? Hi all, Facts :Last august 30th, I ordered a Lenovo Yoga 3 14 (i5 / 8 / 256) from Amazon. It's been delivered one week ago (02/09/15).Two days ago (monday), I installed Kaspersky antivirus, downloaded the files for Windows 10, closed the screen and it went to sleep...And never woke up again ! I tried any and every keys / switches combo I thought of (power switch w/o volume switchs + and -, Novo switch, function keys, Ctrl/alt/ del, ctrl/shift/esc, escape, spacebar, enter... Right now, the power led is still on, the PC runs on battery and I'm waiting for it to run out of charge.I can hear and feel a very tiny ventilation from the back. The USB ports are active since my phone and an external HDD are plugged in them. The keyboard doesn't respond or enlight itself anymore. Despite all my tryings, I get no sound from the speakers... So I hope I will be able to reboot it and find a suitable solution (BIOS, driver update ?).The Yoga is new (one week old) and I'm yet already struggling to bring it back to life !!!!! Question :Is there any way to manually shut down the computer (the power switch for 60 sec doesn't work, the battery can't be taken out, no reset pin hole...) ? LENOVO, please HELP !!!!!I was so happy of this computer, don't let yous customer down. PS : As soon as the battery turns off, I'll try to save the PC and let you know how it goes.Sadly, I'm already considering to turn it back.

After a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary edition, I had an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga not resuming from sleep, requiring a hard reboot every time. I made sure to perform the updates in the support article ThinkPad Yoga cannot wake up from sleep mode but those didn't help. The ultimate solution was to downgrade the Intel Management Engine Interface driver to the 9.x version from Lenovo's site. The default Windows 10 installation installed version 11.x of that driver, which apparently causes this issue with failing to resume. (Note that the Lenovo System Update tool does not identify this as a needed update since the Lenovo driver version is older, so you have to download and apply the older driver manually.) After doing this, the system now sleeps and resumes perfectly. Hopefully this can help someone else, and maybe the above support article could be updated to include this advice too.

You seem to be saying that you yourself have "set the power options to make the laptop sleep when the lid is closed". If this is so, I don't understand, because the Yoga 900 should be set this way in the factory by default.

All my devices will stay connected to the bluetooth. This can be really annoying because when I need to use a bluetooth device it will connect to my laptop which is not in use before I can get it to connect with my phone or other device.  The other problem is my battery drains too fast when in sleep mode. With my other laptops you could hardly see the battery drain. And this one it drains like 10 percent a day in sleep mode. I am sure the bluetooth probems is mostly to blame.  Is there any way to turn this feature off? When I shut the lid and it goes to sleep, I want it to be fully asleep.

Hello, I have read other people having the same issue. Suggestion seems to be update the bios. But here it comes a second big issue, I can not update bios! I tried from "BIOS Update Utility for Windows 10 (64-bit), Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Thin..." it starts the procedure but then it re-boots ending up in an (apparently) sleep state with the blinking led. The only way to start again is pressing the button for several seconds, but then once checking the current bios version I realize it did not really update.  I don't know how many times have tried this, getting crazy. Please help!

Occasionally during Sleep Mode, the laptop restarts for unknown reasons. But I just noticed that it has restarted when I log in.I'm not sure whether this is caused by background updates of Windows 10, because I don't see a screen with updating or anything. AFAIK, the random restarts happened when the laptop ran on battery mode, but maybe that happens by accident.I already configured in Energy Manager that the hard disk never gets turned off, but that apparently doesn't work. What suggestions do you have to solve this random restart issue, without disabling sleep mode after X minutes?

A:Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

Windows will not update while in sleep mode, since your system is effectively turned off, so that is not the issue. Normally when you system is in sleep mode for a while, it eventually goes into hibernation (writes the data from memory to the hard drive) and shuts off.   This is to preserve the battery, and to prevent data loss should the battery die. The data is written to a hidden file on the root of the C:\ drive called hiberfil.sys, which is usually pretty large, about 6GB or so, and sometimes that file gets corrupted, and cannot be read when you try to resume, and thus the laptop reboot since it has no saved state from which to resume.     To fix that problem, you need to disable hibernation, and then re-enable it by following the steps below.. Disable/re-enable hibernationRight Click on Start and select Command Prompt (Admin)In the Command Prompt (Admin) window, type:  powercfg.exe /h offIt will take a minute or so for the command prompt to return as it deletes the existing hiberfil.sys fileOnce the prompt returns, type: powercfg.exe /h onThe prompt should almost immediately return, and the new hiberfil.sys file has been created.Close the Command Prompt (Admin) window Hope that helps. Cheers,

I want to demonstrate aproblem I have had with my Yoga 900 to see if others have had similar issues. I discovered this when I put my Yoga, (which was asleep) in my backpack, and then later noticed it was awake. It took me a while to figure out what was happening, but I finally determined that it had nothing to do with the backpack. My Yoga 900 would wake up when picked up by the short edge (as I did to put it n my backpack). You can see this in the video:Yoga 900 Waking when pickedup (BTW -- I am not squeezing the laptop, I am just holding it as needed to pick it up by the edge. This does press down on the lid and there is upward pressure on the bottom. It is the pressure on the cover that seems to be the cause of the laptop waking) Note that Lenovo has been great, and is sending me a replacement laptop. But I am curious if others see this same problem. Is this a common Yoga 900 Issue?

I have no idea if this is a common problem or not. All I can say is that I have two Yoga 900s, and I'm not seeing this issue on either of them. Good to hear that you are getting a replacement though.

Hi,My Yoga 910 is set to fall into sleep mode after a few minutes or when closing the lid - it doesn't in both.I closed every open window, exit every program on the taskbar corner, unplugged the mouse and all USB ports, got into airplane mode and canceled battery saving mode and yet it does not work. The laptop was formatted and the problem did not go away. You can see in the pictures what's still on.Thanks.

Hi, Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 are not going to sleep. The behaviour is really weird because the red light on the lid is blinking like when it's in sleep mode, but I can hear the rotating fan. When I open the lid it's even weirder. Windows are not locked and I am not prompt for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse is moving in jumps and there is not any response to keyboard or screen touch. After few seconds/minutes the system is suddenly OK like nothing happend. This is not happening all the time and I was not able to see any pattern when this happens. What should I do to get rid of this? Thx for help.

A:Yoga 260 Dont sleep when lid is closed

It sounds like a device is having a problem entering the low-power state.  Look in the event log

my yoga 900 would not power up.  research found that the issue is a conflict between malware and windows 10.  The recommended fix was to hold the unit horizontally and press on the power button.  it worked! Question is - has this happened to you, and if so, how often?

Closing the lid should cause the Yoga 900s to sleep, but that doesn't work. The ligth stays on when opening the screen does not come on. The only why to revive the Y900s it long press the power button to force a restart.

How is the sleep mode suppose to work on the Yoga 900s?

Good day.

My Yoga 900S sleeps correctly when I close the lid, as expected. Can you provide more info about the driver/OS update/UEFI-BIOS state of your machine? Maybe that would help to narrow down the troubleshooting focus a bit.

Regards.

My 14" Yoga (non-pro) seems to jump out of sleep mode whenever I put it into sleep mode. This even happens when the Yoga has been folded up and put in by bag, giving a high chance of damaging the laptop or even causing other kinds of damage. Currently I'm working around it by putting it into Hibernate (which, I admit, is also pretty fast). But that's obviously not a nice workaround. Does anybody know how to fix this? I tried to find out what causes the event but the system logs are rather strange: I do get: The system has returned from a low power state.Sleep Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:12.012475900ZWake Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:21.793067400ZWake Source: Power Button But I certainly haven't touched the power button, and it seem to be working fine otherwise.
