I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Guys,

Found the answer to what I was seeking! If you don't want things like Cortona to remember your searches, or your Microsoft Account activities, do the following:

1.) In the search box type "Privacy" (No quotes)
2.) In The General Settings go to Privacy Settings
3.) Go to Activity History, and there are a lot of things you can clear and uncheck about the information and searches on your computer. Very helpful!

For the past  3 months I have tried every suggested solution imaginable, expending literally dozens of hours  to try to install Feature Updates to upgrade my Windows 10 Pro from v.1607 to v1803 as repeatedly required by Microsoft. The situation is now very urgent, they inform me, but I am beginning to despair. The installation process always closes with a not very helpful  "Update Failed to install".  It may be that the error could lie with Lenovo: that the  M91p was not tested and approved for compatibility with the newest MS OS software, see: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/check-this-list-to-dete... I think that there must be others with the same problem and that there might just be a usable solution available, but in view of the following I am not over-optimistic: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-version-1803-kills-our-computers/m-p/4070948#M654... Is there really no way out other than to switch to another OS because Lenovo might be at fault?  After 30-odd years of Windows, I've got used to using it!  My Lenovo present OS combination still runs fine, but now I am confronted with the equally serious problem that my Adobe Lightroom no longer functions, because it requires a higher OS version than my apparently un-updatable Windows 10 v 1607. What would be the best alternative OS? Anyone have a suggestion?  Apple maybe?Any practicable advice would b... Read more

Hi,

Yesterday evening, I've shut down my computer and it started to install updates but didn't finish the installation. This morning I start my computer and noticed that my computer still had some updates to install so I tried to do it again with the HP support assistant but it stopped again before preparing action list. So I did some research about this update on the web and found some information on this link :

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-version/42d672a5-9988-4327-a5fc-b4cf9a47768a

It seems that this update has some serious issues so now I don't know what to do... Does anybody know what is going on with his new update and if I should install it and download it directly from Microsoft website?...

Thanks for your help.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad P50 laptop that I have been using with an external Dell Ultra HD 4K Monitor P2415Q running with a resolution of 3840x2160 @ 60HZ using DisplayPort.  Initially the laptop was running Windows 10 version 1607. Under this version of Windows 10 the external display worked properly regardless if the BIOS ?Graphics Device? setting was set to ?Hybrid  Graphics? or ?Discrete Graphics.? Unfortunately, since Windows 10 now forces updates when new versions are released I was not able to stay on this version. When Windows 10 updated itself to version 1709 using the external monitor described above stopped working. When the external monitor was plugged in (both DisplayPort and HDMI) it would briefly display an image and then go black. The Nvidia display adapter would then show as not working in the Device Manager. I spent  a significant amount of time working with Lenovo technical support uninstalling and re-installing drivers etc. Nothing worked, I was still not able to use the external monitor. After some further experimenting I found that I could get the external monitor to work if I set the BIOS ?Graphics Device? setting to ?Discrete Graphics.? It would not work with the BIOS set to ?Hybrid Graphics.? Last week Windows updated itself to version 1803 and the external display problems have returned with some additional incorrect behaviors. As I stated in the previous paragraph under version 1709 the external monito... Read more

Has anyone else run into an issue with the video drivers not working with the P50 after the Windows 10 version 1803, April Update? After the update, I've had issues with Windows 10 perpetually needing to use their Microsoft Basic Display Driver instead of the Quadro M2000M drivers.  I've tried updating the drivers from inside Device Manager:  However, while windows found and installed and updated driver, the same result happened when I rebooted. I've gone to the Nvidia website and found the most recent drivers, dated 3/27/2018:  The video drivers from the Lenovo website are dated 9/4/2017, and I've tried them nonetheless, and they did not resolve this Microsoft Basic Display Driver issue. Does anyone else have any insight on this, or are we now in wait mode for Lenovo to generate a working driver?

I have heard of some people getting beyond that error by using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to create version 1803 installation media on a USB or DVD, and then running the upgrade successfully, but that said, I have also heard that Microsoft has disovered some serious issues with 1803 on laptops that have hybrid video cards (Intel HD and Nvidia discreet etc) and systems with Intel NVMe SSD's, so Microsoft may be pulling back on upgrading those systems until it can iron those problems out, so I personally would wait a bit if either apply.  Cheers,

After forcing me to install the latest Windows 10 update 1803, my Bluetooth can't connect anymore.

Trying to rollback to previous version, problem still exists. Not even clear if it did restore, although I can see now it is version 1709 it also says version 1803 is successfully installed, so it clearly doesn't do a full restore to the previous version (in
that case my Bluetooth would still wok also!)
System restore keeps failing.
Is there any solution for this? Or need to do a full reset of windows, and force to disable windows updates?
Windows updates mainly causes trouble with WIDI, and now Bluetooth also.
No Idea where I can get help, or what is the correct forum to post this.

Guys,

There are reports, including with my PC that Microsoft Edge opens up to a Help Page upon start up of a PC running build 1803. It is a help page for Windows. This also affected me. I haven't done the boot from shutdown yet where this was happening. (I don't think.) However, what I did change in Windows 10 was Notifications: (Go to Cortana/Search and type Notifications in the Search box.)

1.) I turned off Windows Tips in Notifications
2.) I also turned off the "Show me the Windows Experience after Updates and what's new." and that turned off the issue with MS Edge opening up to the Help Menu upon restart.

I also reported this in the Feedback Hub, and other Windows 10 users should do the same.

A new setting you can put in your system IF you are running 1803 (OS build 17134.48) is the "Ultimate Performance" plan. Open up powershell (as administrator) and type the command:

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

Go into settings, system, power and sleep, select "additional power settings" under "related settings" and you now should have "Ultimate Performance" as a selection. This will only work if running this version of windows. Type "winver" in the search box to check what version you are running, first. This is for "higher end PCs"

1. I would like to permanently change the size of the default font.

2. A minor thing, but I prefer the folder view on the left to be hidden. If I hide the folder window, then reopen the app, the folder window is in view again.

What would be your improvements?

I like Windows 7 just as it is & don't see the need to upgrade if Windows 8 doesn't offer any desktop improvements. It seems both Apple & now Windows have moved to unify the desktop operating systems to be more like their phone & tablet OS. Just wondering if Windows 8 will offer any true desktop improvements?

A:Does Windows 8 offer any desktop improvements?

I have Windows 8 (the pre-release) installed on a virtual machine. And as to the best of my knowledge, the answer is no. I'm sure that the final release will have some bugs removed and some other improvements made. But basically, what you see in the pre-release is what you're going to get in the final release. If I were to buy a new computer and had the option of Windows 7 or 8, I would pick 7 without hesitating. Having said that, you've got to release that is just one persons opinion.

Today, Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14393 for PC and Mobile to the Fast ring.

Unsurprisingly, there are no new features of note.

After all, the Anniversary Update is only about two weeks away now. The new build instead focuses on fixes and improvements.

Here's what got fixed and improved in Windows 10 for PCs build 14393:

We have improved the reliability of Start, Cortana, and Action Center.
You should now be able to mount iPods as USB mass-storage devices.
Here is the lone known issue:

We are aware of certain cases in which Surface Books and Surface Pro 4?s may bugcheck (bluescreen) due to a camera driver issue. An updated driver will roll-out via Windows Update soon that will fix this.
There have been reports by some that say that build 14393 is the RTM build, meaning that it's the build that non-Insiders will get as the Anniversary Update. Since the known issue is clearly labeled as something that will come as a driver update rather than a new build, this is entirely possible.

If you're on the Fast ring, you can grab build 14393 by heading to Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update -> Check for updates. If you're not and you want to be, go to Windows Update -> Advanced options, turn on Insider builds, and when your PC reboots, go back and set it to the Fast ring.

Microsoft today released its second Windows 10 Insider Preview build within three days, bringing the build number to 15060. It's only for PCs though, just like 15058 was when it was offered on Tuesday.

As usual, there are no new front-facing features in today's build; instead, the company is focusing on fixes, as the Creators Update is slated for general availability in about a month, or even less. In fact, the company is reportedly finalizing it this week, so we may see an RTM soon.

Here's what got fixed and improved in build 15060:

We fixed an issue resulting in the Settings icon appearing plating in the taskbar. This issue also resulted in another issue now fixed, where if Settings had been pinned to Start, the tile would become greyed out after the first time it was clicked. Thank you all for your feedback on this.
We fixed an issue resulting in 3rd party IMEs not showing up in Settings after being installed.
We fixed an issue in Microsoft Edge where quickly typing and deleting characters into a website?s search box while using the MS Pinyin IME might result in the IME becoming stuck and the website showing ?Not responding?.
Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 devices should no longer fail to update to new builds if a SD memory card is inserted if you have the latest Surface drivers and firmware installed.
We fixed an issue where taskhost.exe might crash after pressing Tab while quickly typing in UWP app sign in fields, resulting in not being abl... Read more

Just installed it a few minutes ago. They really need to make the build updates install faster.

Build 10061 seems to be fairly stable (sans the known bugs). The UI changes are nice, but it's still incomplete. Hopefully we'll start seeing the finished look (or at least close to it) in the big June build. I really do like the new look of the theme, but there still are some things that are clearly not finished appearance wise.
Feature wise I'm still not sure how close to finishing it they are. They still need to work a lot on Cortana, Spartan, some important core apps and other smaller things.

In my opinion people can start using it for their home PCs without any major issues or for light work, but I don't recommend it unless you are a bit tech-savvy.

Hello everybody! I hope all is well wherever you are!

I am having an issue with the latest, major windows 10 update.

When I originally tried to download the thing I lost WiFi connection very briefly. (I know school boy error using WiFi while updating)

Now when I try to update it stops at 80% and comes up with the message 'We cant install updates because other updates are in progress.' Before this it came up with ERROR 0xc1900107.

No other updates are running (as far as I can tell) I also ran system file checker which came back fine.

I finally downloaded the update assistant but it doesn't work that way either.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Dan
