Yoga 460 mute problem

Q: Yoga 460 mute problem

I have a strange issue with my Yoga 460; when I mute (either through via the hotkey or via Windows volume control), mute goes on for a fraction of a second (the light flickers briefly) then immediately unmutes. It was doing this before and after the Win 10 Creator's update. I was on the latest drivers according to TVSU; albeit since the creator's update TVSU seems to either be broken, or not finding any drivers. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I'm very happy with my brand new Yoga 370. Much nicer display than my old Yoga 12.Type 20JHStock Lenovo install of Win 10 Pro that I switched to Windows Insider/Fast Ring...Build 16199.rs_prerelease.170513-2252. No USB or external speakers/headset connected. When I press F1 the light on the key comes on, and the speaker icon changes to show speakers muted. However, any app or program that makes sound still makes the sound. So the speakers aren't really muted. This works just fine on my old Yoga 12 on the same OS build, same apps, etc. Any ideas? Thanks! Greg C

My X1 Yoga (3rd Gen with new i7-8650U chip) will only connect to an external monitor via HDMI when the computer has just completed a fresh power cycle.  If the connection is lost for any reason (laptop is put to sleep or switched to "Project" to "PC Only"), when attempting to go back to the external monitor connected via an HDMI cable ("Project" to "Duplicate" or "Extend"), the monitor is not recognized and cannot be found (Windows 10 display function shows there is no external monitor). NBD service has replaced the mother board and I've updated all of the latest drivers and continue to have the same problem. Separately, the keyboard mute/unmute feature does not always operate (pressing the key will not toggle the mute/unmute light and the computer will not go between mute/unmute). Thanks,Jim

My Thinkpad s3 Yoga 14 laptop stuck on mute. The soundbar to the right displays mute and the soundbar itself won't go away. On startup the mute LED light keeps flickering. The laptop lags and I have to go to task manager to End the processes "Thinkpad Message Client Loader" and and "Thinkpad message Receiver for Shortcut Hot Keys" for the the laptop to stop lagging (CPU is 100% on startup for some reason which may account for the reason of lagging). I have updated every driver with Driver Easy and Lenovo System Update. I have tried disabling then renabling and rolling back audio drivers but to no avail. I even uninstalled then reinstalled audio drivers. I have also gone to volume mixer, playback devices and recording devices but according to it the speaker works fine. I tried adjusting the volume in volume mixer but it keeps coming back down just as always.  The main problem is that the sound is stuck on mute and I just want it resolved. I have gone through days searching through Lenovo forums on what to do.

Hi, Try the following. Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63408.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed,... Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5859
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

When Installing finished mute button works, BUT when I turn of my laptop to next time to use my laptop mute button doesn't work. I hope you will help me and you know the answer for my problem.

When i plug my headphones into the front panel creative console changes from 5.1 to headphones but it doesn't mute my speakers and auto mute speakers option is checked. Is this because speakers are through optical to a logitech z5500? Also is optical out the best way to send sound to the z5500's?

A:Headphones mute speakers problem

I have optical connection to a Z5500 too, didn't have a problem with a Creative card before and now an on-board Realtek.

Try changing console mode, un-check the option, try re-plugging and then check again. You can also try re-installing console.

I like optical, it seems clearer, fuller and louder (at least to my ears). One set back is if you are doing audio creation, then all the encoding and decoding induce latency in sound.

I've looked at other questions on this but can't seem to figure out how to get rid of this *@#$ virus/vulnerability. I would really appreciate some help.

I am on a Dell Latitude D620, running XP and generally use Firefox for browsing. I have MacAfee installed and running but it finds no problems. I have installed and run Spybot, Adware, and Safe Returner, removing some bugs but the problem persists.

This is a home computer I sometimes use to log into work so am stuck using MacAfee and MS 2007 for compatibility. The unit runs VERY slow and I would love to know what I can delete and increase speed.

I am not a real techie but an engineer and can generally follow directions pretty well.

This may be a setting on your keyboard software (if you have keyboard software installed) or a setting on your sound card.

Can you describe both to us, please? Somehow the CTRL key has been assigned this shortcut function, and this must have been done with some type of software associated with one of the above pieces of hardware.

Hi. I have HP 15 laptop. The issue I'm having happened in windows 8.1 and now windows 10 same laptop.

I have a new Harmon Kardon soundsticks 3 2.1 computer speaker set. This is connected into the headphone jack.
The speakers work great, sound excellent.

They have a mute function where when you touch both capacitive buttons, the sound is muted.
However this mute function doesn't work when I have the laptop connected to the wall outlet. When i unplug the laptop and the laptop goes into battery mode, it works perfect.

I tested the soundsticks with an ipod, a netbook and another exact same laptop plugged in (same plug).
They work flawlessly.

I can't figure out why this is happening. I've duped the settings as much as possible with the other same exact laptop and it still does not work.

I've tried uninstalling the realtek driver and reinstalling, doesn't help.
I've copied the power settings from the well working laptop, doesn't help.

It does seem to be related to power somehow.

Is there a driver that deals with power I could uninstall and reinstall?

Laptop works perfectly otherwise.

Thanks.

Hello everyone, new poster here.

I just had this strange problem pop up. In the Adjust Audio Properties, the MUTE ALL check box is checked, but "cycles" on / off. This is a rapid cycling of about twice per second. I can play CDs, but the sound "skips" due to the cycling of the mute feature.

I tried the easy stuff like rebooting, then shutting down the computer and restarting thinking maybe a process just got hung up, but neither of these worked.

I'm running:
Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
RealTek AC97 audio driver [for VIA] (driver version 5.10.0.5280)

I wanted to try and download and re-install the driver, so I went to the VIA website, but you have to know the bridge type (EX: VIA AC97codec incorporated into VT8233 south bridges). If i go to SYSTEM\DEVICE MANAGER\SYSTEM DEVICES\ I see a VIA standard host bridge and a VIA standard PCI to ISA bridge, but "properties" doesn't give me any numbers like on VIA's website (The SYSTEM\DEVICE MANAGER\SOUND-VIDEO-GAME CONTROLLERS\RealTek AC97 doesn't give me this info either).

Any ideas what could be causing this problem or how to determine my bridge type?
Thanks for reading this, ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated!

I have just completed putting a PC together, but I get no sound.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1.
Here are some images that show my confusion.

The drivers were obtained from the motherboard's website.

I purchased new speakers, but...

I assure you the speakers are connected.
Since I am using the onboard audio system, there are no cables involved less the speaker cable.
The speaker power is turned ON.

The only this that come to mind is there might be a BIOS setting that needs to be set, but I am a newbie where BIOS settings are concerned.

BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 0603, 10/29/2010
SMBIOS Version 2.5

If this is a BIOS issue, please specify where in the BIOS I need to go to make the adjustment.

If this is not a BIOS issue, then I am lost. I need a Sound expert. No pun intended.

A:Upgraded MUTE PC

If you are using typical "computer" speakers, the "Speakers" need to be set as the Default Audio Playback Device.

What is the speakers you are using? Standard 2.1 or 2 speaker analog computer speakers need to be connected to the GREEN speaker jack.

The S/PDIF is a digital output (normally used to connect to some other audio system, such as a TV surround sound system).

I thought of putting in a switch in the wire that goes into the PC. The mic is connected to the computer by a USB, is there an extension wire i could buy with a switch attached to it, that i could plug the mic into and then plug that into the computer?

I really need a fast way to mute my mic and if anybody has any ideas I'm open to them!

Thanks for reading and I hope you can help!

Hope this question is simple! I need to have or make a keyboard shortcut to mute all sounds from the system quickly, as in when I have to pick up the phone. I know F7 works if I'm in Windows Media Player, but I'm usually working in another program and it's time consuming to click over to WMP running over on another monitor to mute. I can use the Volume Control, but again that's a matter of locating it on the hidden toolbar with the mouse, click, click.

I tried a macro with Macro Express, but the Toggle Audio Mute command there doesn't seem to do anything in W7.

Enlightenment and/or suggestions would be appreciated. BTW, sound is from motherboard, VIA VT1708S, latest (7300) drivers. Sounds great!

Here is a perfect solution for you.
Create a Shortcut or Hotkey to Mute the System Volume in Windows :: the How-To Geek

Please let me know if you like this as much as I do.

As shown in screenshot, I am using F1 key to mute and un-mute audio perfectly. I can also use mouse to click on the shortcut to activate/deactivate, same as using F1.

I looked for souutions for this simple problem. When I press the f6 key the audio will shut off. However the amber light does not light up. The solutions listed were either for different type of laptop, not ENVY, or for a different operating system Windows 8 or 7. It worked before a windows update. Thanks for your help, Dave

I have an winXP on a desktop Gateway PC. The mute keeps going on without me doing anything to the volume controls. I don't play games on this machine so that has nothing to do with this problem of the mute continuing to turn on. Is there something I can do to stop it from going into mute mode? Thanks

A:Volume keeps going into Mute

Still having trouble with this. Is there no one out there who knows how to stop it from turning mute?

Okay I have no idea if this is even the right place to ask, but I am running Windows 8.1 so yeah idk. I would really like to have a microphone mute key on my keyboard. I have no way of muting except going into Recording devices and I don't want to do that. On my keyboard at the top I have a few keys mean't for other things, such as one on the end which opens up the Music app, and i'd like to just change one of those keys to a mute key for my microphone. I have a Blue Snowball microphone if that helps. I also have the Alienware Multimedia Keyboard that came with my Alienware X51.

Help? Please....
