I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Iv recently encountered the dreaded Plugged-In not charging Error
Upon Boot
ALERT! AC power wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Iv come to the conclusion its the module that determines the adapter and wattage type.
As iv tested it with known working chargers and batteries.
Can anyone *** me with this knowledge or allow me to get a schematic for the mother board?

a little bit of background first. i no longer have a battery for my laptop. i can only use it when the adapter is plugged into it. yesterday i tried turning it on, but it doesnt. this morning i tried turning it on again and it turned on, for a few seconds then it died. after a few frustrating tries, i noticed that the AC adapter light would blink on and off, like it wasnt supplying power to my laptop. and because my laptop no longer has a battery, it dies. i tried to plug the adapter to another socket because i thought it was a grounded socket issue, but the same thing happens. a friend of mine suggested that it may be the radeon video card that i had got somehow fried or overheated or something, so we tried uninstalling it(yes, there was a time it stayed on long enough for me to log in and uninstall my video card). sometimes it would take 5 seconds for the AC adapter light to blink and die, sometimes it takes 5 minutes or so. after uninstalling my video card, the same thing still happens. when i turn it on, sometimes it only takes a couple of seconds before it dies. sometimes, even if i dont turn it on, the AC adapter light would go on and off, like there was something disrupting the flow of electricity from my socket to my AC adapter to my laptop that causes the light to blink on and off very fast. could it be a power supply issue?

When I plug in for charging battery then screen goes black? when I set the  power plan at HP reccommended)But  I set the power plan at high performance then this one is OK.Please advise me to resolve

A:laptop screen goes black when plug in for charging battery

Did you mean to say that it goes black for a second and then returns to normal? Your notebook sounds like one with switchable graphics.  My HP product loan Envy17-3002ea does that because I have the graphics power options set to automatically switch to the energy saving GPU when on battery.  If you don't want that to happen, just take the tick mark out of the box that say automatically switch. Then it will stay in high powered GPU all of the time, but will always use more battery power when on battery. This is a decision that only you can make.    regards, erico

Hi there, I have a Lenovo Flex 3-1580 Laptop. Last week, this just started happening, when I plug in the power adapter, the screen brightness goes up and down by itself for about a minute or two and then stops. The laptop doesn?t charge the battery. I tried a different power adapter and cable but did the same thing. Is this a battery issue or a laptop hardware issue?

Since i bought a new laptop E7270, is it allowed to use my power adaptor my old Dell E6420 also for the new one?   If so i can use one adaptor at home and another in office and dont need to carry the power adaptor always.
Will this impact the battery performance of the new laptop?

A:If it is possible to use the power adapter of E6420 for my new laptop E7270? Will it impact the battery of the new laptop?

If the connector fits (it may not - the older systems use a much larger barrel connector than many of the new ones), AND the power (wattage) is equal or greater, yes.

Hi, my laptop (HP ProBook 450 G0) won't turn on without the AC adapter although the battery is charged (97%). When the adapter isn't plugged in, the adapter/battery LED (on the left side of the laptop) is flashing really fast (like 20times per sec). When I press the power button, nothing happens. When the adapter is plugged in, I can turn the laptop on. The adapter/battery LED is off, Windows say "plugged in, not charging". I ran battery test and system hardware test and everything's OK. I tried hard reset (pressing power button 30 sec) and it didn't help. Any advice? Thanks in advance

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop (circa 2003). I know my laptop battery has been drained for a while and I was almost solely relying on the AC adapter's juice to power my machine. Recently, I lost all power to the laptop. I thought perhaps my battery had finally had it so I bought a new battery. Well, then I couldn't charge my battery, so I bought a new AC adapter. I still have no juice. It looks like the AC adapter is working (the light is on it to show it's getting power) but it's not transferring that power to the machine.

I think it may be a bad connection between the adapter plug and the laptop. I don't know how involved of a fix this is.

Any suggestions on what type of fix might be needed? Is it better to just scrap this laptop and get a new one? Thanks for your help!

Im having an issue charging my laptop battery, i have tried a the fix where you uninstall the drivers from the device manager and  shut down the computer and boot back up but it wont do anything The computer will turn on with the AC adapter connected and the battery out.Computer will turn on with the Battery in and the AC adapter disconnected.Computer will turn on with the battery in. If the computer is turned off with the battery in and i plug in the AC adapter nothing happens it would not charge it.If the computer is off without the battery and I plug in the AC adapter the power light with the little lightning bolt will flash once and it would allow me to turn on the computer. So i dont know exactly whats going on. I tried to turn on the computer with the AC adapter only and windows shows it recognizes its connected, but if i plug in the battery it would automatically change from saying that is connected to disconnected and stars running with the battery juice only even when the AC is still connected. Some how i feel like the battery overrides the AC adapter and i dont know what to do... Please help

I have scoured the internet for a similar problem/solution but to no avail. It seems I am the first person in the universe with this problem.

A few months ago, on my ASUS g60 vx laptop, I would notice that while gaming and doing anything really, with the laptop plugged in, it would randomly shift, rapidly, between 'Battery Mode' and 'AC mode' as if I was rapidly plugging and unplugging the AC adapter. It seemed almost as if I shifted it around and made sure not to move it, I could get it to remain in 'Plugged in, charging' mode. So I did that for awhile.

Things got worse and I eventually got a message saying my battery was most likely dead. I got HWMonitor and sure enough, it said the battery was pretty much fried. So I took the battery out completely and just used my laptop plugged in for months with no real problems.

Then Christmas came along and I asked for a battery from my in-laws. They got the exact battery for my laptop, I'm 100% sure of it. I slid the battery into place, it fit perfectly. I turned on my computer and saw the batter had like 33% charge, which I'm assuming it shipped with. Problem is, it wasn't charging the battery. I was still just using the AC adapter power apparently.

For days and days it stayed at exactly 33%. Never would charge. Even if I shut down my computer and left the charging cable in, nothing. So I start my computer, and take OUT the ac adapter. What do you know, it starts draining ... Read more

Hi all

I have an HP 530 laptop (1.6 dual core, 1gb memory, 250gb HDD (was 80gb), windows 7 ultimate 32-bit build 7600 (was vista home basic))

My PC runs like a dream. Recently it started giving me problems though. It dies when it wants to. There's no pattern to it.

Sometimes I'll run it on full battery and it'll hold on for 2 hours. Other times full battery keeps on going for 5 mins and then dies indefinitely. Okay sure, you'll say I should replace the battery, but that's not all.

If I run the PC on AC adapter it can sometimes keep on going without the battery for a while. Other times it'll die after 2 mins. Sometimes it charges the battery full and then keeps on going with the battery the whole day long, other times it discharges a full battery in 20mins and dies. If I unplug the AC adapter for a while and plug it back in it seems to solve all the problems for a short while.

If I delete the AHCPI battery manager in Device manager settings it also solves the problem for a short while. These problems only started when I installed Windows 7.

I have deducted that it could be that:
1. I need to replace the battery.
2. I need to replace the AC adapter.
3. I need to go back to Vista or XP
4. I need a BIOS flash.
5. I need a software fix or setting on Windows 7 of some kind.

Somebody please help!!!

A:HP 530 Laptop battery or AC adapter or software issue. Dies anytime

Hi FriedBiltong,

It could be the AC cord or jack. You can easily check it out by moving the cord, usually close to jack. Look at the light, there you can see if power is connected.
Laptops works without battery too, so you can skip that part too.
Hope it's not too serious..

First of all Im pretty tech savy so you can talk to me in technical terms. Ive repaired countless computers for many people and I never came across anything like this. This is the problem...
Sometimes when I move my laptop or even type there is a complete loss of power. Everything completely shuts off. It happens whether my laptop is plugged in the AC adapter or not. I bought a new battery just in case it was that and its still happening even with the new battery. Event Viewer System logs tell me nothing except that is recovered from an unexpected shutdown. I suspected that maybe there was something loose inside so I took the laptop completely apart and put it back together... still im getting the same loss of power.
Now here's a hint that can possible be causing this. When I get this loss of power I cant turn back on my computer unless I unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery for a few seconds and put it back in.
Any idea's guys? Ive searched the web and havent found much on this issue nor a resolution so if we do find a solution bleepingcomputer.com might be one of the first to figure it out. If need be give me a better suggestion for the title of this thread so it can be searched for easier. Thanks in advance guys, lets see if we can figure this out.

Hi all, Some time ago my Ideapad U530 Touch fell from my desk. It hit perfectly on the ac power supply plug-in and it broke the male connector on the cord and it appears that the female connector on the laptop is damaged as well. The pictures attached are the best I could do. The plug on the laptop may or may not be ruined, I'm not sure but I think I remember a small metallic part that broke off of it. The "damage" that is visible in the pictures looks to me like just scratches on the paint/color but I'm not sure.  Like I said this was a while ago and I'm just now getting around to fix it. I was looking for parts just now, first for the cord to see if that would be all that I needed, but I was also looking for a schematic to find the part on the laptop and to see if it was a part of the motherboard so I could have an idea of what this was going to cost me. I discovered that there is no schematic (that I could find.) The cords offered for this laptop all had "expired" labeled on them and the cart button was greyed out and not functioning so I couldn't even price it. Can someone let me know how I might proceed with repairing my laptop? It is almost three years old. If the cost is prohibitive (the whole motherboard must be replaced because the power supply plug is an integral part of it or whatever) then can you let me know the easiest and/or cheapest way to get the data off the hard drive? The battery is long past dead so it won't even fire up for me to... Read more

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

Hello all,

Please help, she is driving me mad x

A:Cannot plug A/C adapter in, please help

Which laptop model is it (get the info from the label on the bottom, not the bezel or plastic near the screen.
The adapter plug can be repaired by a skilled technician... but the cost is often as high as $175... the cost of a new motherboard. The part itself is sold by HP for about $40 from their "support" center, but should really only be about $6.00 on eBay. The trick is the soldering, which require skill and a lot of experience.
When we know your model numbers from the bottom sticker, we can perhaps be of more help.
It would also be helpful to know the city near where you live that might have technicians.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

A:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

Recently purchased the XPS 17 laptop, and first thing I noticed when I plugged in the adapter is that there is entirely too much play, it flops down and has fallen out quite a few times already.  Have several other DELL laptops and those are still nice and tight even after years of use~ did they give me the wrong one??  I see no reason why a brand new plug/laptop should be this loose?

A:XPS 17 NEW adapter plug loose and falls out?!?!

There is a simple resolution. Dell has not provided the @malkboy explanation to it phone support, engineering, tech, Terry_B or its partners.
Dell has not made an official statement regadring the design, the problem or a fix. Until then we can assume its a problem because we the customers don't like it.
@melkboy - were it the case that this is the design to prevent the cost of replacing a motherboard, etc., then Dell should so say. As it is Dell has burdened the cost of replacing my XPS17 2x, sending me an XPS 15, providing a daughterboard repalcement, 3x a new powercord and my loyalty and business. I have BEGGED to peak to someone with knowledge and no one has come forward to make your explanation.
@Terry_B has provided the best communication and there has been no communication from him to this effect.
Its a bad design, Dell's intent was not to prevent damage from tripping. Dell is running away from its customers and this problem.

I was given a nextbook several months ago. I don't know how to tell details like what version it is. It says manufactured Sept. 2014, and has serial number.

I do have operating system details though. It was upgraded to Windows 10 shortly before I received it.
My issue: No matter where I plug it in, directly in an outlet, or into a power strip designed for a computer, in a heavy duty power cord, the square plug part (not the cable to nextbook) gets hot. Not just warm, hot. So I can never get the battery fully charged, because soon as it gets beyond slightly warm, I have to unplug it. Worried about overheating and fire. I've never had anything likethis before, but I don't think this is normal.
I've included 2 images of the cable/plug. Also image of system info.

Any suggestions what the issue is and what I can do for it? My Computer just quit on me, so I'm relying on my nextbook until I learn if computer can be fixed or if it's a goner.

My Dell D800 laptop stop working.

When I plug the ac-adapter the power light goes off on the adapter. It is obvious short on the motherboard. I did took it apart and look for some problem around DC-jack, but I don't think the problem is there. All the accessories are off . It is only mobo now by it self and does same thing. Anybody knows where I should look for the short. Which chip or diode it could be? I heard it is very common problem with D800 and D600 models. Since I am pretty good with soldering I think, and it is my hobby as well I would like to repair the mobo my self instead replace. Definitely would be much cheaper as well.

Thanks in advance for any input on this matter.

A:Dell D800 AC adapter turns off when plug in

Some laptops have a separate internal DC converter, and some DC converters are part of the motherboard. If you haven't tried another AC adapter, I would do that first. After replacing the AC adapter, check the DC jack for a high resistance using a good multimeter... A normal resistance would be around a half Meg ohm. If the internals are shorted, the resistance would be much lower. Unless you have the skill and tools to do surface mount soldering, I wouldn't attempt a repair

I look forward to your reply!Cheers!

We recently purchased 4 Optiplex 7050 Mini Towers and 4 QLogic 57810 Dual Port 10Gb Direct Attach/SFP+ adapters. After I installed the Qlogic network adapter to the PCI-E x16 slot, POST failed when power on. The power light flash in yellow but no video output. I tried to use other PCI-E 8X card but the same result. A PCI-E 4x data acquisition card works find in both PCI-E slots (16x and 4x).
It seems the system considered the net network adapter as video card and thus no video output from build-in video card. Also, failed to check and init hardware.
Please correct me if I am wrong and could you advise any possible solutions such changing BIOS setup?
Many thanks

A:POST failed when plug in PCI-E 8X network adapter

Try this, with that card removed from x16 slot, reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup.
Look for the Primary Display option and make sure it's set it to Intel HD Graphics, not to AUTO. Save the change and exit setup. Allow PC to boot and confirm that the onboard video is working. Then power off, unplug, and press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Now install that card in the x16 slot. Close up and reboot.
If that works, keep in mind that every time BIOS is reset to the defaults, eg to clear an error when the motherboard battery is removed,  you'll have to remove the add-in card, change the Primary Display option again...
If that doesn't work, you're probably out of luck using that card in the x16 slot.
