I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Sanjay Phirke,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I think there might be some loose contact between internal battery and the system board.

Try with resetting the system from Emergency reset hole, which will be at the bottom of the laptop.
Emergency-reset hole

Hope this helps.

A while ago my laptop shut down while I was in the middle of playing a game on it. I thought it was just a crash so I started it up again and ignored it but just recently it crashed again while playing the same game. I'm uncertain if it is the game because I've played it for 26 combined hours before, and only today it started doing this. What happens is I'm using the laptop basically and then it just shuts off instantly. There's no BSOD or crash error message, it just instantly shuts off to a black screen. When I turn it back on there's no errors or anything and it loads just fine. I looked up the recent unexpected shutdowns and it actually shows 3 rather than 2. Now that I've looked at it, I do remember that something had froze and task manager was refusing to open. I tried to go to the registry editor but that also refused to open, but other programs opened fine. I then decided to restart it to see if that was the issue. I shut it down and it did everything fine, but when it went to a black screen and when the laptop usually goes off, I could still hear the fan and the noises from it. I left it for quite a while and it still didn't shut off so I held the power button and it went off. After that I have been using it fine other than these 2 instant shutdowns. Now I am wondering if what I did before is causing it? Or what could be the issue?

My first [only] guess is that you have a heat problem. If not the CPU then the GPU. If you re able I would open the case and make sure that all of the vents are clear and clean. I would also seriously consider getting a cooling pad of some description to assist in keeping temperatures down

Open the BIOS (F2 or F10 as you power up) and look for a hard drive self-test and run it.

My laptop has been shutting down on me for months now and I cant figure out why. I thought it was overheating, but it my CPU stays at a constant 55-56 degrees Celsius. Its not the AC adapter, because it happens with or without it plugged in. I have noticed that it usually happens when my internet cable is plugged in, and when im watching a video with something else running in the back. Also when my laptop starts up and the desktop appears, a window pops up with a registry error. There is a pic of it below.

I have a Compaq Presario V4000 with XP Service Pack 3, with Intel Celeron M Processor 1.40GHz. Anyone have any idea what is happening? If you need more info, let me know and i'll try to get it to you...

A:Laptop shuts off instantly without warning...

That's very strange, it's uncommon but not unheard of, but it seriously sounds like the laptop is defective, and I really recommend you get a new one, it would cost a lot more to try to fix it that it would to buy a new one. It's not likely that the regristry error has anything to do with it. If there's a warranty, return it as soon as possible so you could maybe exchange it for a new laptop or another computer, cause that's just crazy having a laptop die on you like that whenever it wants. Again it serioulsy sounds like it's defective or your computer has something wrong with it at the hardware level that could be very costly to repair. It's unlikely that there's something causing the random shutdowns at the software level, so take my advice, get somethign that'll last longer.

Hello there HP support and viewers alike. New user here who's been lurking around as a guest for a very long time seeking help constantly from the forums. It does seem that I have run into one of my own unique problems, I won't waste time so I'll cut to the chase: Problem:My HP Pavilion Laptop, Model 15 - ab292nr, running Windows 10(64-bit) has shutdown and refuses to start up. The most surprising and perplexing thing to me is that it just did this suddenly and randomly after I booted up a 2004 video game. The screen went black instantly, the fan stopped and there was completely no power. The screen was at full brightness right before I initiated this, indicating the battery supply was constantly being recharged and was no where close of touching 0% charge. The laptop has completely no lights, and the AC adapter doesn't seem to charge as it does not heat itself whilst plugged into a power outlet. I've already tried a hard reset but to no avail. My only hope is to turn to the forums for help from qualitifed experts.I've read a lot of similiar problems with sudden shutdowns and refusal to start once again, and some seem to be linked to motherboard issues. I hope this isn't the case and it's just related a sort of power surge and can be easily fixed. Any good solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hi! I got a Lenovo ThinkPad for Christmas 8 months ago, and when I got it, I started setting it up, you know setting up my profile and whatnot. I made a profile and started installing games and all that kind of stuff, so after I did all that, I unplugged it cause I wanted to put it away into the case because I had somewhere to be the next morning, so I wanted to put it away early to get it over with. Anyway, when I unplugged it that first night, I expected the battery to just start slowly draining, like all laptops do, but instead the laptop just INSTANTLY shut down, just poof, black screen, so I started it up unplugged, and it drained very quickly. At first, I thought maybe it was because the battery wasn't charged up, but it was still odd how it just shut off instantly when it was unplugged. I thought it was odd, but put it in the case anyway and went to bed. I used it for a few days, plugged in at all times, however one day, I was playing a game, and the computer accidentally got unplugged, I don't remember how being it was about 7 or 8 months ago, but anyway like I said it was accidentally unplugged and once again, POOF black screen. This time I was very irritated cause I had to restart everything I had done in my game in that session. Before the computer was unplugged I hovered over the charging icon, and seen it was at 100%, so I was very confused now cause it should have kept going even after it was unplugged, because since it is at 100% it would only make se... I have taken the keyboad and bottom off and could not find any loose connections or damage.
Any ideas? Been searching internet with no luck. is it a SSD thing maybe it thinks it's being dropped?
Any help would be great

Lenovo ThinkPads has a feature where it would turn off the hard drive when it detects it's being dropped. But I don't think that's present on SSDs because they don't rely on mechanical platers. I'd suggest getting the unit repaired with Lenovo. Visit http://support.lenovo.com

When shutting down the laptop after a few hours of use, the OS (win10 x64) will shutdown normally, but the red led on the thinkpad logo will remain on. (same whether im on battery, on plugged in). Product Name: HP pavillion dv7-2185dx
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have had my dv7-2185dx for many many years and my battery doesnt hold a charge because I never took it out when plugged in (I never unplugged it, i used it like a desktop). My problem though is that when I power on my laptop, it instantly shuts off, before anything can even appear on the screen.

My charger is working because there is a light on the laptop that turns on when the power cable is in. and when its off and plugged in, the lighting bolt/charging light blinks.
My laptop is cool and not hot, because I havent been able to turn it on in a week.
I did try unplug and drain the battery by holding for 15secs but still shuts off instantly

normally i can still run my laptop plugged in with no battery, but now I cant turn it on.

One thing i noticed different, is when I plug in my power cable, the light turns on, then turns off, then turns back on and stays on. when my laptop shuts off, the charge light shuts off, then comes back on.

I also bought a new charger, but for some reason, when I plug it in, the light turn on, then turns off and stays OFF. so strange

any idea what it could be?

I've set up the laptop to work with 2 external ThinkVision L171 monitors, using Windows 7 Professional. One is connected via the VGA monitor port on the laptop; the other is connected via VGA to a Lenovo/DisplayLink USB 2.0 Port Replicator (model VDK8736 -- with drivers updated).

Both monitors are working well and available when the laptop lid is closed. The issue is that after the screen saver period completes, the laptop powers down completely. I'd like it to just shut off the screen and resume on mouse movement.

The laptop is used with external monitors when it's plugged in -- and the power settings are:
Balanced profile
Display turns off after 2 hours
Screensaver starts after 10 minutes
Computer goes to sleep - Never
Hard disk off - never
Internet Explorer: Javascript Timer Frequency - Maximum
Desktop background settings : available
Wireless Adapter Settings: Max Performance
Sleep - Never. Hybrid Sleep: Off Hibernate After: Never Allow Wake Timers: Disable
USB Selective Suspend: Disabled
Intel Graphics Power Plan: Balanced
Power Buttons & Lid: Lid closed - Do nothing; Power Button - Sleep; Sleep Button - Sleep
PCI Express - Moderate Power
Multimedia - When sharing media - prevent idling to sleep; When playing video - Optimize video quality

Does anyone know why this is happening and a way to prevent it?

Right so I unplugged my computer to take back to my house and then my brother knocked it over onto the the side, i think it may have been on the side of the motherboard. When I got home, I plugged everything in and turned it on. But all that happened was that the led and fan would work/turn on and then the computer instantly shuts off. I open up my PC to look at the inside (I turned off psu first and unplugged), I pressed all the ports and sockets and wires in harder incase something was loose, I plugged my PC in again but without the mouse and keyboard and my PC turns on fine but no signal appears on my screen. Whenever I plug in all my stuff (keyboard, mouse etc.) my computer does what it did before, powers fan and led then shuts down.

I reallly would appreciate ANY help here as I do not wish to spend any money at the Computer Repair Shops.

Hey y'all--

I have Win XP SP3. Trying to clear up a slow-running condition, I opened Task Manager. As I moved the pointer to click on a tab, the Task Manager dropped into the systray. When I moved the pointer to the systray, the task manager icon disappeared. At first, this only happened on my user account, w/ admin priveleges. Now it happens on all 4 users.

After clearing out everyone's temp files, etc, and running Malwarebytes, the speed seems to be OK, but I still have the Task Manager problem. I searched the forums and found several similar complaints that also included the run command or regedit not working. My run and regedit are fine. I don't have any other problems that I know of.

I use Sunbelt Vipre. I tried it in Safe Mode, but it found no infection. I've also used Kaspersky and Panda. They also found no problems (other than a few harmless cookies). Housecall won't run on my machine.

Following & attached are DDS logs.

I'd sure appreciate any help!

This is my first time posting here, I'm hoping someone might have an idea as to what's causing my problem.

2 days ago my computer instantly shut-down while I was using it, when I tried to turn it back on, the fans started to spin and then it instantly shut down again (shut down in less than a second).

I took the side of my case off to see what code was being thrown, and all I get is '00' every time I try to start the system. Sometimes it will attempt to start again after failing; for example: I push the power button, the fans start to spin, less than one second later they stop, a couple seconds later the fans start to spin again then instantly stop (this repeats until the power is turned off at the wall).

Other issues:
Over the past couple weeks, I have been experiencing blue-screens, which were gradually becoming more frequent (roughly once every couple days). Some days I experienced multiple blue-screens and hangs (pc would freeze for a minute, then audio would freeze, then it would either resume, or in most cases lead to a blue-screen).

Used roughly 8-12 hours per day ex weekends. Rarely shut-down; on almost 24/7.

Things I've done since the problem:
- Cleaned the interior and components of dust.
- Checked for shorts.
- Cleaned and reapplied thermal paste to CPU.
- Removed RAM and tried booting with different configurations of sticks (same set, don't have any other RAM to test with).
- Tried booting with GPU removed.

Hello guys,
I just got home from a LAN with some friends, and when I tried to start up my PC, it just kept shutting off. It was working perfectly fine at the LAN, and at home before I went there, so something must have happened along the way?

Basically I get to the "press F2 to enter bios" stage where I see that the cpu is at 80c or so, and rising very very quickly, once it reaches 100c it just shuts off, and I can hear it buzzing now and then as if it is trying to boot up.

I've opened my PC up, and the fan is spinning as it should, I also dusted it just in case.
Could something be stuck between the fan and the CPU?

Anyways, I'm running Windows Vista.

Any input is greatly appreciated

OK, so my computer used to have the Domino A.L.C. cooling system, until it recently started acting weird and i uninstalled it. Now i have my default Intel cpu fan installed, but anytime i start up the computer it will do one of 3 things: Say cpu is over temperature, press f1 to resume (even if i do resume it shuts down a few seconds later), then shuts down, shut down after about half a second to 5 seconds, or it will start loading windows and then instantly shut down as if the power was turned off (although the lights in the tower itself are still on). I can't actually access the BIOS to check the temperature (the computer shuts off too quickly). So...wat do

EDIT: All fans are working.

Hi. First of all thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have a Windows XP computer that was running great until this morning. I ran up the stairs and I guess by doing so I gained some static on my feet (through my slippers wtf?) and when I extended my arm to push the power button on my computer some static jumped from my finger to the button and started the computer itself. At first i thought it was pretty cool but realized how wrong I was when the system shut itself down after only 3 seconds of attempting to boot. I powercycled the powersupply (clicked it on and off) and then tried powering the PC again... nothing happened, It didn't even respond. After ten minuets or so I decided to try again and It actually started to boot, but then 3-4 seconds later it just instantly shutdown just as before.

Any help would be appreciated. I know static = death with computers but im hoping maybe, just maybe it could be a problem with the button itself (not giving enough of a signal to start or something) or something small like it (i dont want to but a whole new MB).

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and even more gratitude to those who take the time to reply and help!

If you had a Lexmark printer at some time, this may have been a leftover startup pointer...which now has no referent.

Why did you restore your system?

Hey guys,

I have a Pavilion DV7 laptop that has been randomly shutting down. No warning whatsoever; it just goes to a black screen, some garbled static spits out of my speakers for a split second, then it just powers down. THEN when I try powering back on, it would shut down again 2 OR 3 MORE TIMES right after the "Resuming Windows" screen before I could even get to my desktop again. I don't know if the 2 are related, but I also have that insufferable Outerinfo malware.

At first, this only happened while I played World of Warcraft, so I thought it was an overheating issue. But it happened tonight while I was just searching DeviantArt, which threw up a million red flags.

My Toshiba Laptop is a Windows 7 with a recent (1-2 months now) Windows 10 update. (Satellite C675--S7200)

A few moments ago I tried turning my laptop on without a plug, first time trying to turn it on at all today.
It did not react to my pressing the power button so I plugged it in assuming maybe I left it on to die overnight yesterday. When I plugged it in it turned on once I pressed power, then I got started on planning out an essay I have to type and send online. As I changed my seating position I lifted the laptop to do so, unplugging the power cord from the laptop itself in the process and instantaneously it's off. Completely silent with a black screen and all. I plug it back in, turn it back on, it takes its time a little to come back on, then I see it's a full battery and try unplugging again.. same story. I google and tamper around with (basic) power and battery settings, still the same story. Again, as I am typing I am very still so I do not unplug the charging chord for it to instantly shut off on me again although the laptop is at full battery along with the green light indicating so next to the power light.

Before this evening I have not touched any settings on my battery or display or power recently and I need this issue fixed because I am rather clumsy and do a lot of class work and essays on this computer at home.

Hi Faizan,
Please share the operating system installed. Also, try releasing the static charge from the system. Here are the steps:

Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer including the power supply.
Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
Reconnect the power supply. Try to restart the computer and check.

Also, you confirmed that you have tried running diagnostics on the system and no failure was detected. I request you to run on-board diagnostics on the system once again. Here are the steps:

Restart the system and immediately start tapping the 'F12' key to enter the 'Boot Menu'.
Use the 'Down Arrow' key to highlight the 'Diagnostics' option. Press the 'Enter' key.
The diagnostics will begin. Please note the exact error message/code, if any appears on the screen.

My computer was going through software updates when I had to shut it down. Since then, when I try to start the laptop, it powers up and freezes on the "LENOVO" screen. I have powered off several times, left it running with the screen, nothing seems to help. How can I refresh the computer so I can use it again?

I just purchased this laptop, I like it alot.   Using the HDMI port and the mini-display port, can I have 3 displays?   The internal touch screen, and then also the moniitor on the HDMI port AND a different monitor on the mini-display port.   That would be 3 displays. I'm just getting into Microsoft Flight Simulator and it will support 3 videos and I want to have all 3 running to get the most from the application. I want to be sure that it isn't either/or on the HDMI and Mini-Display Port, but that I can use both/and. Thanks in advance. Paul

So I had no such problems until today. It happened instantly. Even though my batter is full, whenever I unplug my charger the laptop shuts down instantly. And when I turn it back on, the orange battery light on the right side flashes quickly. Someone had told me that the battery was dead or I had to replace it but it worked just fine until today. I have been using this laptop for almost 4 years now. Thanks for the suggestions and help.

I've recently started working at a new company and I've been provided with a brand new Latitude E5570. After 3 days use the laptop has started to shut down when the power cord is unplugged, it was working fine yesterday but having returned to work this morning I've found that I can't use the laptop unless it is plugged in (it wont turn on if the cord is unplugged). I've tried using a different power cable from a colleagues laptop, but the situation did not change. I've also tried changing and resetting the power plans to default, but to no avail.
I ran a battery check through command prompt and it showed that the battery is working fine with 100% charge, so I cannot understand why it refuses to work without the power cable. Here's a link to the report (must be opened in a browser): https://www.dropbox.com/s/ezwtuiowx0kz4gb/battery-report.html?dl=0

A:Dell Latitude shuts down instantly when power cable removed (despite full battery)

The charging circuit on the motherboard is probably bad.  That allows the battery to accept and provide current. When I worked in a previous job years ago supporting hundreds of laptops, we had a few of these. If I'm right, I suspect that as you wait for your battery to self-discharge over time, you'll find that it battery won't charge anymore either.

Aloha, I've recently noticed that the audio cuts out if lifting the ThinkPad X1 Yoga from a specific part of the chassis. Draw an imaginary line from the PrtSc key towards the lower edge of the keyboard and holding the laptop from that position to lift up, results in the audio cutting out. It's quickly rectified by either refreshing the browser tab or (because I use the Chromeflags option) mute and unmute the tab I'm viewing using the embedded icon option.Bizzarre as it doesn't happen if resting your hand on the same spot, so it seems the pinching effect on the cover against the chassis while lifiting the laptop is having some effect.I have posted a seperate message on replacement clips for the X1 Yoga's lower cover, just curious if anybody else witnessed sound cutting out when manhandling the unit?Hopefully it's just the broken clip causing a temporary flex of the chassis making some contact temporarily move, but also having seen loads of negative material of a fruity smartphone whose internal components fail due to chassis flex resulting in circuitboards cracking and making short circuits occur. It's not the speakers, as their placement is elsewhere. Has anybody else witnessed this temporary audio cutting out issue? If so, could you outline the steps taken to resolve.

We are looking to set up some new ThinkPad L390 Yoga laptops and have had this issue with all of them we have opened so far. After running them for an hour or two doing normal setup (installing updates to windows, drivers, etc..) they have all ended up not charging anymore through any USB-C ports.

Dear all, My ThinkPad Yoga X1 Carbon has WWMA, and once I insert a 4g SIM card it works really well for connecting to the Internet and web browsing. I was wondering whether it would be possible to also phone directly from the laptop, without removing the SIM card and putting it back into the smartphone. I am currently on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but I can also use it with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Best, ct529

I have had this X1 Yoga 3rd Generation laptop since May. Sometime in July the battery will get drained at an excessive rate while the laptop is sleeping. I believe it started to happen after some software/driver/bios update around that time. Overnight it would go from 100% charged to 10% (and stops at 10% becaues hibernation kicks in). See below some images for the SleepStudy that PowerCfg.exe reports.   This seems to be the same or a very similar issue to the one reported here for the X1 Carbon that it is still unresolved:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-Gen-Battery-drain-in-sleep/m-p/... I have been installing any new updates posted on System Update hoping for this to magically get fixed by one of those updates, but so far it hasn't happened. I'm starting to switch from a happy ThinkPad user that would recommend my laptop to colleagues and friends, to one that may start telling them to stay away from them.

Hello. This is my first post. Yesterday my new Lenovo Yoga 730 arrived after being purchased through Lenovo's website. It's beautiful, thin, sleek, powerful, ergonomic and sturdy. However, today I was playing Kerbal Space Program (at 4k resolution) on my dining room table less than 24 hours after first booting up the machine, with the power cable plugged in, with plenty of space behind the machine, when the computer suddenly died. It wouldn't turn on for about 5 minutes and it smelled like fireworks or gunpowder or sulfur, especially near the back fan. When it did turn on it died instantly again about a minute later. I went to plug it in and it turned on but it no longer turns on when on battery power. It will instantly die if the cable is unplugged. No other devices were harmed and there is no lightning nearby.Reminder that this machine is a day old. The computer is pretty much maximum specifications. i7-8565u, 16 GB DDR4-2400, GTX 1050 4 GB version, 1 TB SSD, 4k multitouch screen with an active pen. Any advice or knowledge of what went wrong would be helpful.
