Q: Solved: All sorts of problems (networking and router help!!!!)

Ok so first off ill tell you what im running too hopefully give you the info needed to help me out.
Linksys BEFSR41 = Router
Linksys EZXS88W = 8 Port Workgroup Switch
Original PC = OS = Xp, 1 Account (Admin), Bosses computer.
Second PC = OS = Xp, 2 Accounts (Both Admins), co-workers PC
Third PC = OS = Vista, 2 Accounts (Both Admins), MY PC
I def have it wired right considering no one is having problems getting the internet.

To start, i was not here originally when my company setup the Modem and Router. When i got here i was literally swapping the cable with my co-worker to use the internet. We had some electricians come and setup wall outlets, so that now, we all have internet all the time on all PC's. To do this i installed the 8 port switch to the router because prior to that with all 3 computers connected, only 2 of 3 would actually get online, using this switch fixed that. Here it is a month later, and i have been asked to NETWORK all these computers together.

I have gone in on each pc and followed any guide there is to make sure i have all settings correct to be able to share files/programs over a small office network. Each computer is on the same workgroup and all that good stuff, yet i cannot see any other computer but mine on the network.

My best guess was there is a setting in the router that is stopping me from networking, so as usual i typed into my web browser and got the standard login screen.

NOW . i know that all linksys routers come wit a default password of admin, and sometimes it can be admin/admin admin/1234 1234/admin and all those wonderful combinations. NONE OF THEM WORK, i CANNOT log into my router. So i figure, alright, maybe they never installed the software, i find the CD ROM that came with router and go for gold and run the setup, IT STILL ASKS ME FOR A PASSWORD. will not let me into my router settings. Ive gone to the router/switch and held the reset button 8-10 seconds, ive unplugged each, nothing is resetting, HOW THE HELL DO I GET MY PASSWORD!!

basically, 1)is it not my router, did i do something wrong in the networking process 2) how the hell do i get my router information back.

(ps. vista comp has expired version of Mcfee that i have configured to allow file sharing, and 2nd comp Xp co worker, has expired norton, that i thinkkkk i have setup correctly for file sharing)

Any help would make me wet my pants, im so lost, and ive never had a problem setting up a network or anything of this matter.

Preferred Solution: Solved: All sorts of problems (networking and router help!!!!)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Need your help once again please.

This area I am not very good at.

Trying to connect in the initial stage 2 lap tops(later another desktop), both have WINXP.

The specs of the networking is as follows/
Broadband line in on ADSL2 PLUS Router, a Beetel 110BX1

From here I connect/split via the RJ CABLE ON TO

I get part success ie
I can open Yahoo on both, upto Inbox PAGE but attempting to open
individual page, no luck. The command seems to go but times out.
Most of the Wesbsites do not open, not even TECHGUY, only one I managed is
My Windows firewall IS OFF BUT I use the trusty COMMODO INTERNET SECURITY on both.
Any ideas what I can do from here to get things going normally?

All tips welcome with thanks.

Basically I have 3 PC's all connected to a router which is connected to the internet. Two of the PC's are on Win2000 and one is on WinME. The two Win2000 machines can connect to the internet no problem. But the WinME machine doesn't want to know.

Also, how can I share files between these 3 computers? The user guide that came with the router is absolutely terrible.

Any suggestions anyone?

Recently I found out that our network wasn't secured, so I went through alot of trouble creating a new secured network. We have a router connected to the computer running XP and two laptops wirelessly connected to the network from the router. Fortunately all computers seems to be working now under a new secured network, but a couple days ago my internet connection was cut off out of nowhere. I reset the winsock through the command prompt and restarted the laptop. It worked. Now, a few days after it happened, I'm browsing the internet and it happened again. This time I did the same thing except also resetting the "int ip" and "firewall". I restarted the laptop and now I'm back online. My problem is that I don't want this happening frequently like this. Is there some kind of malware in my registry that's causing this? How can I check to make sure that there is nothing wrong with my laptop? Is this by any chance because of the new secured network I've created? Also, the computer running XP (directly connected to the router) used to be listed under the same network but now it's nowhere to be seen. Is this part of the problem? Thanks.

I have 3 pc's sharing a cable connection over a linksys router. Out of the 3 computers, the fastest comp (Athlon 2100+ 512 mb RAM) has a slow connection. Browsing the web is slow. It takes neo-modus direct connect more than 30 minutes to work in the busy hubs. Additionally it won't work in active mode, even if I tell it to report the true ip and open up the port or put my computer in the DMZ. Also I can't upload files to my angelfire website or upload to people on kazaa or DC. On the other 2 computers the connection works in a flash. Whats going on?

I'm running into some problems trying to network my 2 Computers to my Dell 2350 Wireless Router for Internet Connection and File sharing. Both computers are hardwired directly to the Wirelss Router, so there isn't actually any current Wireless connections.

My setup is of the following fashion.

Computer 1 (Dell XPS w/ Windows XP)-----.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [2350 Router]----[DSL Modem]-----
Computer 2 (Compaq Presario w/ XP )-----`

(Periods to the left of the router for spacing purposes only)

What is working:
The router does see both computers on the network if I do a Statistics/Diagnostic check.

Computer 1 has no problem connecting to the internet.

What isn't working:
Computer 2 I can't seem to get connected to the internet.

I can't seem to get file sharing to work. I did enable file sharing in the LAN connections and I did select the items that I actually wanted to share.

I did set up the router so that it is a secure connection. Both LAN connections have the Firewall disabled.

I have been through a plethora of tutorials with this very scenario and have tried doing everything that I have read.

The last thing that I checked was to turn everything off for a bit, then I turned on the modem, the router, then PC 1, then PC 2 to make sure IP's were being assigned - which they were. Nevertheless I still can't seem to get this working.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ver... Read more

I'm trying to use new combined router / modem (Belkin F5D7632) with my broadband connection but am having problems. I only get problems with a wired connection to my PC, not with a wireless connection to my laptop or with a wired connection to my laptop.

If i switch my PC back to using the old usb modem the problem disappears. Basically I get intermittent, sometimes persistent slow page downloading and some sites simply refuse to load at all, but others work fine. I have IE7 and firefox2; both are affected the same.

I have XP media centre with SP2. I've disabled windows firewall, uninstalled stopzilla, adaware and google toolbar . I still have avg anti virus and windows defender left for protection. I've tried resetting IE7, but still no difference.

I thought about installing IE6 to see if this made any difference, but now i can't get to the windows download site.

Belkin support think there's a problem with my PC, since my laptop works fine when wired or wireless.

I'm fresh out of ideas. Can anybody help?

A:Problems web browsing through router but not with usb modem [Moved to networking]

Well, I have to agree with Belkin on this issue. Since wired and wireless connections work fine, it's hard to blame the router.

Hi can anyone help? I'm having problems (wired) networking 2 pc's both on xp to share broadband. i have the two ethernet cables going into the router as well as the adsl line. The two computers can see each other but the problems is, it would appear is the router. When i got to belkins auto setup on it infrequently works. when i do get a connection one of the computers has limited access to certain sites like ebay. I have turned off xp's firewall, left panda anti virus on, and even tried turning off the routers firewall but when i do that i lose connection. It seems that the router is unstable! Is there a possible firewall/security conflict going on here? why do i keep loseing connection? any help would be much appreciated! also one of the computers has "stopit" dialer installed recently set up for broadband, might this be a problem too, can't uninstall this by the way!

First question: I currently have a Linksys BEFSR41 router and a Motorola Surfboard SB5120 modem running two WIN XP SP3 computers on my home network. Speedtests show I get less than half the speed from the router than when the computer is connected directly to the modem from Cox Preferred internet. The router was purchased May 2003. Could the router's age have something to do with the speed drop?

Second question: I want to switch to IP phone (Phone Power) and IPTV (Sky Angel). My plasma HD'TV is about 55 cable feet away from my computers/router/modem. The set top box for the IPTV needs to be near the TV. I did a trial running a 55 foot Cat 5 cable from the router to the set top box at the TV and for the most part it worked ok but had occasional picture breakup and buffering. Speedtests showed substantial drop in speed at certain times of the day. I wonder if it would work better if I placed a second modem at the TV and then put a splitter or Tee on the coax at the current modem location to run a separate coax to the TV modem. It is probably about 50 cable feet from the incoming coax (outside wall) to the current modem/computer location. So, there would be the 50 feet plus another 55 feet of coax to the TV modem, with a Tee or splitter in the middle of the run.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. My objective is to lower overall cost and still have good quality TV, phone and computer performance.

Thank you for any suggestions.

First, thank you for the site and such good support, and my ability to join to gain more information. Now, to my question, I have read several posts on modem and router configuration, but none really hit on my issue, I tried John Will's method with little success.

Here is my setup and what I would like to be able to do. I have an Actiontec modem, GT701 w/ wireless, which feeds an Ativa router ($10 @ Office Depot after rebate). I want to be able to forward web traffic to a computer on the Ativa, I am trying to set up my own web server with small home/blog page. What is the best way to go about this? When I tried John's advice, the system quit working altogether, I configured to router first, having disconnected it from the modem, then configured the modem being connected directly to it. After all was said and done, I had some screwy 169.x.x.x number with "Autocofiguration" under the secong tab of the status window for my network device. I had set the router to the same subnet of the modem and disabled DHCP, used a PE connection type and typed in my username and address and set the LAN outside the modem range with the modem in Bridged mode with DHCP enabled, When iI restarted the modem / router, I couldn't log into either and there was no connection. Under ipconfig /all command window, it only listed the 169.x.x.x number with no default gateway or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Here's the set up.

I want to connect my parent's computer (Win XP) to my computer (Win 2K Pro) via a D-link router to the internet. Problem is when i hook up the router i get no internet connectivity at all. Now i had at one point gotten these two computers to jive together but that was with a different router all together.

What i need to know is:

Do i need to delete the old network from the computers? (If it's possible)

Under my network connections why do i have "Internet gateway" with a "Internet connection" that is disabled? and why when i attempt to change it in any way i can not delete it or it comes up with the error message "The internet connection sharing computer is not configured to let network users control or disable the shared internet connection. THis can be changed in the advanced properties of the shared connection on the internet connection sharing computer." when this was the computer that was the "Main computer"?

I have been away from my PC for a while. Its an old model, SP2, 512MB RAM.

I used it after a year and there are whole lots of problems. For start, it says, "Windows - No Disk" error. Then whenever I try to run NFS MW or LOTR Fellowship (dont mock me), both come out with a blank black screen and then nothing happens. I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to get out.

FM09 runs smoothly though. Running Dxdiag shows no problem.

The virus database is out-of-date but scanning has not solved any problems.

I tried enabling it and it did not respond at all. I then tried to enable it using Windows Security Center and nothing again. So I restarted in safe mode and ran a full scan using Mcafee and it found nothing. I downloaded Spybot, and it wouldn't even start up. I downloaded Hijackthis and again it would not even start up. Now I noticed that whatever I have is also preventing Windows Defender to update as well. Some sort of virus has breached my security and I am scared at what it could do next. I am having a bunch of issues with my computer, and always, all the issues come at one time! I'll just start off by numbering them from most important to get fixed a.s.a.p. to the least important.

1. All of my Windows keep shutting themselves down! When I open Firefox sometimes it works for a few minutes, then all of a sudden just closes with no error or anything. Other times it has an error "Failure to initialize properly" (I will update this post with the exact error next time I open F.F.) other times when I click the Firefox shortcut on my desktop it will say "Firefox has encountered a problem" with the options to "Report Problem to Microsoft" "Dont Send". I put firefox in Safemode (through cmd prompt) and disabled all scripts and it still did the same thing in safemode. Now here's the catch. All of a sudden my MSN Messanger started doing the SAME thing. It terminates the whole program. It doesnt just sign out--it shuts down completely. Then I ****think**** that IE has done the same thing a couple of times now.

-This all started yesterday-- about 1 day after I updated I.E. to the newest version (from a very old version) and about 1 day after I updated my Firefox to the newest version (from the previous version)

Now this leads me to my next problem...

I updated I.E. for one reason. Whenever I am on a website all links, urls, anything that should be "clickable" is not clickable on I.E. --What happens is when ... Read more

This one got me good, started 3 days ago from a acrobat page file.

My desktop takes forever to boot up(25-30 mins), when it does explorer does not start. (No icons, start menu, right clicky) Taskmgr does work, If I try and manually start explorer.exe I get access denied. I can not run msconfig, mbam, control panel, eset or any internet browsers. Ive attempted to boot in safe mode with networking, but the system just freezes and requires hard power reset. Ive tryed to do the rkill name change and mbam name change combinations all without luck (in safe mode and normal). rkill does run, however does not find any problems to terminate. mbam will not even install.

Not really sure what else to try at this point, any thought ideas?

The problems started a couple days ago. I needed to burn an ISO to a CD, and Img burn had always been such a nice program. I was a bit worried, but downloaded and installed it from one of the links on the Imgburn site.
The Windows 7 machine had no antivirus software on it (I know, but my worst problems have come with av installed) so I couldn't do a quick AVG scan.
So Im getting bombed with adware. I go to uninstall, and sure enough, a bunch of other stuff is on the machine. I try to uninstall, and the box pops up that says "do you want to allow this to make changes to your computer " comes up. I clicked "yes" at least once. I'm guessing that was a really bad idea?
I downloaded AVG, did a scan, found 11 things.
Last night I downloaded REVOUninstaller to get the other programs off. Even after that and another AVG scsn, I still had issues.
So I found a site about how to get rid of one of the remaining programs, and ran several scans, all of which found stuff on the first pass. Downloaded some off this site, and generally did almost all this:http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-playthru-player-ads/
So then I still need a burner, so I tried looking for a good copy of imgburn (I am wondering if it exists.) I went to Softonic, and it said something about problems with imgburn. So I thought something like, "oh good, a reputable site." That's when the problems really started.
I dowloaded the burner they recommended, AVG caught something. I think I tried it again, at one po... Read more

Do you know that Windows 7 is capable of burning ISOs without using a third party burner?
You can get a copy of ImgBurn without the bundled adware from Ninite - Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once under the Utilities heading.
Are you still having problems with adware and or malware?

ok first of all. i come to my computer and i see one of those fake "click hear to remove potential spyware" things that is actually malware itself. i ignored cuz i am smarter than that and i instead ran norton internet security. it told me it had removed a spy ware called "spyquake" but immediately after i dismissed the dialogue box i got a message saying that spyquake had been installed. i went to my start menu and sure enough "new programs installed" it was spyquake. i went to add/remove and removed it from there, and ran norton again. and again it said it removed it. then i tried my internet explorer and no response. nothing happened but my task manager displayed that internet explorer was running, but i couldnt see it anywhere. soon my task manager became disabled as well "by administrator." and the "shared" folder for limewire is full of about 700 things i never downloaded. they are things like cracks and patches for games and such, and i cant delete them because they're "in use." it was only in the past hour i discovered that netscape navigator was unharmed by all of this, and this is where i say HELP!!!!!!!!! i do not think that is is spyware quake but just spyquake. please respond quickly because i take this laptop to college on sunday!!!

atmclk.exe is definitely adware and it is related to spyware falcon and that family of browser hijacks. Here is link to information about that proces amtclk.exe infoIt appears you do indeed have a spyware quake hijack, among other things, based upon your symptoms. I suggest posting a HJT log in the "HJT logs and analysis' forum here at BC.Please read Prep Guide for Posting HJT LogsPlease follow these preparation directions exactly. Then run HJT and post the log it creates in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, which is found at this link: HJT ForumDO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. NOTEOnce you have made your post, please do not add any replies to your post (don't bump it). This may seem silly and I don't know why I never bothered to figure out why this is, but I hope I can get an answer here..

My network is a cable modem -> Linksys befsr41 -> HP procurve 1800, VOIP, main computer.

At the HP procurve 1800, I have 3 comps, 3 gaming devices, and in the last 2 slots, i have a wire carrying over to another procurve 1800, and to a wireless router. Now heres the question. Any computer connected to my linksys router, or the procurves, see my netgear readynas pro server array and shared drives. However, anyone connecting to the wireless router, do NOT see those shares. I am trying to figure out what routing or what settings need to be done so people who connect via the wireless router can see the shares from the readynas pro on my procurves?

I hope I explained it well enough..

Just purchased and installed a WRT300N to replace a DLink wireless router that was having some performance problems. The DLink worked ok except it had lousy range and speed to the Internet. But it worked and I was able to use it with an IBM NetVista desktop and 2 IBM ThinkPad’s to connect to the Internet and to share an HP Network ready printer that was plugged into Port 4 of the router.

With the Linksys, the Desktop is wired directly to Port 1 of the router and that worked fine right out of the box. I had some problems connecting with the laptops so with some help from the Linksys call centre I was able to get them connected to the net using the EasyLink Connect download tool. All was good it seemed. However the next day I went to print from one of the laptops and it could not find the printer, the home network but could still get out to the Internet. Same with the other Laptop and the desktop. Another call to Linksys support and he had me verifying the router config (all looked good) but when we tried to ping the laptops from the desktop, we got nothing. Time outs. Same with the laptops to the desktop. So, net result is everything works fine going out to the Internet, but the internal home LAN is not working. I only use Windows Firewall and wireless WEP security is set on each device (and obviously working as all can get to the Net). The tech said it must be a Windows problem or an IBM problem and he quickly passed the buck and closed the call. Not impressed! Everything w... Read more

Hey, this computer is really messed up. When I try and run IE it usually freezes up the first time so I have to end-task it. The second attempt does the same thing, only after I end-task it I have to end-task explorer.exe and then run it again. Then after that I can make a third attempt on IE and while its loading the homepage (which it really isn't), if I tell it to go to another page instead, it will. Thus after 5 minutes I can finally surf the web. I've run Ad-Aware and Spybot but I think I still need some help if someone doesn't mind.

Ever since I've gotten this thing (Gateway POS laptop), it's had a lot of problems. Wireless always cuts on and off for no reason, and the connection would seemingly just stop randomly, and nothing I could do would fix it until I restarted. It would always say that I'm connected, it just wouldn't actually do anything. Early last year, the whole harddrive crashed and there was nothing I could do to save it. I sent it to the company and they replaced it. When I was trying to fix it by their directions, there were all these clicking noises inside of the system.

Sunday night, that started to happen again. It's still running obviously, but it's not "working." It takes over 5 minutes to boot up now... before this, it was the fastest loading thing I've ever used. Also, internet usually doesn't work at all now. I turn it on and off until I finally get lucky. Everything runs incredibly slow and the comp will freeze up for a few seconds when I try to close a window or even click on the Start menu. Even on these lucky times, it will only last a couple minutes before the freaking thing just decides to stop working again.

I've used Ad-Aware, Spybot, AVG, and HouseCall. The latter did find some infected Java files (odd) but I deleted those, and now I can say that none of the programs find anything wrong. If anybody has some advice on what it could be, how it could be fixed, anything at all... I would be very greatful.

Hi there,

Firstly, I am running Windows XP.

I seem be to be infected with the msb.exe virus as it is showing in my processes. I can run Malwarebytes the first time I run it but it shuts down when running a scan. Then I try to re-open it and I always gets the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". I used inherit.exe to sucessfully open Malwarebytes but the same problem re-occurs when I run a scan - it just shut downs. This is also the case for Spybot S&D and a couple of other programs.

In addition to this, it sometimes plays an audio file in the background even though I have no applications open, and my PC is running considerably slower.

I followed the instructions and downloaded dds.scr to my desktop, ran it, but no log files were generated. I have no script blocker as far as I know.

I ran GMER Rootkit Scanner twice. It shut down both times when it was more than half way through the scan.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

Are you still having this problem? If so, do the following:
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

Hello, I'm here hoping I can get some help regarding some adware that's been installed on my computer.
Audio adverts can be heard no matter what application I'm in and it's becoming extremely irritating. It started with a program I found called Sound+ which I thought I had successfully removed. When I open task manager and sort through running processes, I've discovered a few of the problem processes are called "cellar," "mellow," and "spade" (which as far as I can tell adds a bogus google chrome shortcut to my desktop when run). They seem to be run out of folders located in program files titled "obscene" and "willing." I've already jumped through some of the hoops and run various pieces of malware detection software but it doesn't solve a single problem even if Malwarebytes claims it has taken care of potential unwanted programs. I should mention that whatever malware I have on my PC actually restricts me from visiting any sites that are remotely helpful for removing malware, and I've had to install all anti-malware software using a separate computer through dropbox and the use of RKill.
The last thing I wanted to do was resort to posting on a forum for help, as I've always considered myself fairly tech-savvy but I'm really stumped here. It's also worth noting that I'd like to avoid a clean install of Windows, as my PC doesn't have an optical drive and I've left my USB optical drive in my apartment back up at school as I'm on holiday break. Ok, so here it goes:

I installed a new motherboard (Abit KW7 Socket 462, w/ Via chipset) and now im having problems with the video card.(Radeon 9200se) When I first installed the new mobo, everything was fine. I installed Call of Duty and when the game loaded, i could move around for about 30 seconds before I would get some "VRU has recovered you display" messeage, or something like that. (by the way, what is VRU?) Then I loaded up Star Wars Battlefront and I got a message saying that OpenGL could not be opened. THEN, when my screen saver came on, it said, "could not find any compatible Direct3D devices". Now, all these things worked before, so theres no reason for it not to work now. just to be sure tho, i updated the drivers but then i had even more trouble. The ATI control center would not load up and gave me a long crazy error msg at startup.

My main question is, why did everything work for a little bit, then just stop working in the middle of a game? If it would help, call of duty gave me a technical log of why the game did not load. i could copy and paste it on a later post if it would help.

I formatted my hard drive recently and ever since that, my laptop has a whole list of problems.
1) Windows would sometimes freeze during startup at the "Starting Windows" black screen. Even after getting to the desktop, sometimes it would freeze up there. I have to power shut down my laptop to shut it off.
2) When I pull up my power options to try to change the plan settings, it says "Your power plan information isn't available." I have been able to change it before though. I have tried a solution by going into cmd.exe and typing powercfg -restoredefaultschemes, but that didn't work.
3) When I create a new folder on the desktop and rename it, the folder still says "new folder" and can't be moved. It does show up after I refresh my desktop.
4) My antivirus shows that a malicious url was blocked, containing win32.blackbeard(?) and it came from the Skype.exe process. I've never had trouble with Skype before and now I can't even use it properly.
5) When I play the online game Maplestory, a message pops up saying "Windows must restart because Plug and Play service terminated unexpectedly" or "Windows must now restart because DCOM server terminated unexpectedly" and my laptop restarts.
6) My Windows Update doesn't work. I have it notifying me when updates are available but when I try to update, it fails.

My computer was fine one day, switched it on the next and the Internet wouldn't load. The connection is fine so I wasn't sure what it was. After some research online (using my iPhone) I decided to remove my anti-virus in case that was preventing it from opening. It opened after that (I use Chrome) but it kept coming up with Shockwave plug in unresponsive message. So I then removed Shockwave, message is gone but still no joy.

I also removed Chrome thinking if I re-install it might help, this may have been a bad move because IE is so slow I can't get the page to load to reinstall. Aside from this everything is else is mega slow, I tried emptying recycle bin and it stays on the timer forever and never does anything. It also won't shut down, it stays on the logging off screen forever.

System restote doesn't work, I've done a malware scan, removed all spyware (as I read that can slow it down). I just don't know what else I can do. Sorry for the long winded post, just need some help! :(

One other thing to note is that several times when trying to shut down it comes up with the end now box for something called AUSUpdateWTitle, no idea what that is and it's not on the start up list.

I just spent the last 4 days reformatting my previously-XP computer, installing Windows 7, and setting up all my programs just the way I like them, installing new drivers for the move to Win7, dealing with new problems of moving onto Win7, and so forth. The OS acted like an angel for the first 2-3 days, and now, suddenly, it's acting like a moron.

The '3 Stooges' of problems I'm experiencing very often while it's running is that it often likes to go slow/freeze/(Not Responding)/white window, or give me a totally black screen with just the mouse pointer, or it shows me nothing but the desktop background and the mouse pointer.

As for rebooting issues, I've seen it reboot my computer on its own before, as well as being unable to boot all the way to the OS.

Last night I did a fresh Win7 "Upgrade" Repair Install, though it didn't fix these issues.

I have no idea why it acted so nice the first 2 days, not to mention those were the most intensive days, when I pushed it to its limits installing programs and drivers. Now that I've finally settled in and began my more casual work, it's acting like it has no power whatsoever. This is not the best time to act this way, after all the time and effort I put into installing and setting up everything I use. How can I whip it into shape and move on with my life, withOUT going back to XP? (as I read online that you must reformat to go from Win7 to XP, which would undo 3 days of effort)

Edit: I forgot to say, I'm also al... Read more

Sounds like it might be one of your drivers not working correctly. Did you download the Windows 7 drivers for your devices?

Also, I've experienced a problem with explorer.exe crashing a lot and it was due to my privacy settings in Firefox. Do you have Firefox installed?
