Use of printscreen button

Q: Use of printscreen button

When I press the printscreen button then go to "run" and type in "clipbrd" i can see the screen dump of what I've saved. How do I save this as a file that I can manage ? My copy button stays grey and won't let me save the screen picture for editing. I know this can be done but have forgotten how - can you help anyone please ?

Preferred Solution: Use of printscreen button

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Use of printscreen button

You need to use image editing software. Once you have copied the pic to the board, open something like fireworks or photoshop and click on new image... It should automatically give you the dimensions of the image in your clipboard so just click OK. You then simply have to save the pic.

If you don't have such software, then you can easily use paint. Start>Programs>Accessories>Paint Edit>Paste. Then save.

Hello! Part 1: After the latest drivers update (Wacom develops driver for Lenovo Active Pen 2), the long press of the top side button leads to activation of screenshot event (kind of Snip and Sketch). Hi all,
Is there a way (and has windows 7 done it) to make the print-screen button to make a .JPG in a specific folder or any folder for that matter. so if you were to take 100 print-screens they would number off in a folder and be 100 files not the latest print-screen on the clipboard.

Not sure about printscreen, but with the snipping tool in Windows 7 you can pretty much do all the above.

How can I first paste and then save printscreen?

Why not? While wrestling with this problem ...

In my opinion the easiest way to handle screen shots in Windows Vista or later is to use the built in Snipping Tool.

In Windows 8/8.1 also reasonably easy for full-screen is the key combination:

< Windows logo> + < prtscrn> Puts image of screen (.png) into the Screenshots folder in the default pictures folder

I installed Gadwin Printscreen and found out I do not want it. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I uninstalled Printscreen from Control Panel. It disappeared from the Control panel listing, but it is still listed in "All Programs". I am concerned that there may be still things left that may give me trouble in the future, particularly Registry entries. Is there any RELIABLE program or fix that can deal with that?. I have not experienced any problems so far, but am not thinking of System Restore, because unfortunately, I have installed new upgraded drivers and gotten Dell help to make changes to "Search" which I would like to preserve. If I do not find another way, I will go to System Restore and redo all my upgrades. If I wait too long, my System Restore point may disappear.
I need some advice.

A:Uninstall Printscreen

Unused registry entries are harmless, despite what the sellers of "cleaners" might tell you. As far as the entry remaining in Add/Remove, that is not uncommon. Just use MyUninstaller and remove the entry from the list.

Hello, I have a problem with the printscreen function...
I wanted to take a screen cap from a real or mpeg vid, so i printscreen then opened in paint and pasted it..
But no matter how i save it, it turns out to be a black screen.
Any idea what I am doing wrong?

thanks

A:problem with printscreen

Nothing wrong with your doings.

It's just the media players usually write the image directly to video memory bypassing Windows. There is no way for the printscreen thing to know what is in the picture.

Most media players let you disable the use of overlays.
In RealPlayer go to Tools->Preferences->Hardware and move the Video Card Compatibility slider to the middle position. Press OK.

Now you should be able to sreencap videos played in Real. Put the slider back into rightmost position when you are done screencapping. Playing high resolution videos without overlays is slow and you may get stuttering otherwise.

Not sure if my question has been placed in the correct section, but here goes. I have used a simple printscreen program purchased maybe 6 years ago produced by a company called American, the software was Printscreen ver. 3.0. The man that designed it has closed the source down. Here is my problem, my operating system is Windows XP Pro, I used Windows 2000 Pro before that, I used the printscreen prgram on both. About 3 weeks ago I had to re-install Windows XP Pro. I re-installed the Printscreen program. When I tried to use the program I use a key stroke ctl+x which changes my mouse pointer to a large + which allows me to draw rectangle around an area on my scren, left click when finished. The program is set to store the screen capture on a folder shoosen at setup. NOW when I do that the ctr+x causes the screen to go BLACK and when an area is captured it comes out Black. I removed the program downloaded and tried other programs, when I activate the capture mode the screen goes black. I also use Corel Paintshop Pro that has a screen capture mode, it also causes the screen to go black when the capture mode is activated. Does anyone know why the screen in all of these different screen capture programs to immediately go black, Right click and back to the normal screen. I can use Paint Shop Pro Photo, no problem. All the other installed programs work OK, Screen views are great, high color resolution typlical for a 21 inch wide screen monitor. Have used this monitor entirely which ... Read more

Situation: I have a laptop and a desktop computer. I want to be able to press print screen on my desktop computer so that when I press it, the image gets sent to my laptop.

Problem: I don’t know any program that can do that.

Possible Soltuions:
1) Maybe there is a program built so that as soon as you press print screen it automatically saves it and puts it on a webpage. I could then use my laptop and download the image from the webpage.

2) Maybe it could be setup so that it sends it to the laptop using my wireless network in my house.
The 2nd option would be more preferable because it would be faster since I wouldn’t have to look up the website.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

A:Printscreen key only captures a black screen

Seems to be a recurring complaint with print screen and some games. This started to be more of an issue after Vista and continues for many through Win 7. For some using the CTRL key + Print Screen works. It seems to be game dependent and doesn't always work. This is one reason many newer games are bundled with screen capture applications for use within the game.

This is where ****ed up **** happens. So we plug in the old Hard drive and my computer boots normally whatever. I was doing some tech support for my mom regarding screen captures and discovered the print screen key (and eventually the F12 key as well) is not working, on an otherwise fully functional keyboard.  The laptop in question is a Yoga13 running Windows 8.1 (Yes, it survived the forced Windows 10 update era) It will be needed tomorrow, so I didn't want to do anything drastic just yet; I've rebooted the computer and cleaned the keyboard as much as possible (those chiclet style keys don't pop off the way old style keys did, so cleaning under them is problematic).  No effect. I've found workarounds for all of the features assigned to these keys - the onscreen keyboard handles the normal F12 and PrintScreen functions, and Power Options allows for brightness adjustments independent of the F12's special function (which is good, because I cranked the brightness way down testing the keyboard - F11 works just fine), but we'd rather not have to deal with these solutions long term. We had the keyboard replaced at a reputable computer repair shop a while back - I'll be getting in touch with the proprietor there tomorrow, and I've already made a post on TechSupportForum.  I'll keep you posted on what I try based on their advice.

Hello aar407,

Is this a desktop or notebook? For notebooks, you may need to press either the Windows+Ctrl+PrtScn or Windows+Fn+PrtScn keys instead.

Screenshot - Capture Screenshots Directly in Windows 8
However, refreshing Windows 8 may not get rid of a virus though. You might consider resetting, or preferably a clean install instead to help make sure it's gone.

Hope this helps for now,

A:printscreen issue windows 8.1 using 3rd party screen cptur

I don't know about your 3rd party apps. But I do know most folks don't need 3rd party apps with W8.1 to capture images.

Typically with W8.1, you press and hold the Windows key, then press the PrtScn key. At this point, your display dims for a second. This tells you the image was captured.

Then you look in the Pictures folder in your Library under your file name to see the captured images where you can print or save or whatever.

Also, Windows 8 has the Snipping Tool.

hello, i am new to this forum, so pardon me for any noob threads or anything. My problem is that my computer freezes when i load up certain games, them being:

Crysis (including Warhead and War)
Batman Arkham Asylum
Bioshock
Fallout 3

while other games seem to work, such as
cod 4-6
mass effect 2
assassin's creed
l4d2
company of heroes
team fortress 2

and so on, i don't feel like naming all of them.

My computer specs are as follows:
CPU: intel core 2 quad clocked at 3.44GHz
Motherboard: p5Q pro by Asus
Ram: ddr2 4 gigs of corsair 800Mhz (not too sure)
Display Card: MSI ATI 4870
Hard drive: 500gb hitachi deskstar
PSU: 500W tothemax
Case: Elite 310 Coolermaster

i'm not so sure what exactly is causing the problem, and would love to have this problem solved.

Thanks,

I made a registry change GPO to block PrintScreen by adding the registry.

Windows: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[Layout HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Keyboard]
"Scancode Map" = hex: 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,2,2, e0,37, e0,00,00,37, e0,
00,00,54,00,00,00,00,00

However, when I am connected remotely to the Client this "PrintScreen" function is still active.

Please, any tips for me being able to block PrintScreen when I am remotely connected to the machine?

Regards,

Marcelo Leite

I have a Toshiba Satellite L4550-S5976 running under Windows 7. When I start it up (and if I catch it at the right time), the touchpad buttons work fine for a few minutes. After the machine completely boots, the touchpad button problems start - the left button performs as the right button and the right button does nothing.

On a lark, I plugged in a USB mouse and rebooted. When I do that, the mouse works fine AND the touchpad buttons work properly. Carrying around a mouse isn't always convenient so I'd like to have the machine work as expected.

I tried updating the touchpad drivers - that did not fix the problem. I even reinstalled Windows 7 on the machine - that did not fix the problem either.

Any ideas what I could do next to fix this problem?

Thanks, Brian

try in safe mode, that may work. if it does, remove programs that run on startup one by one until you find the one causing the issue

I manage to get the screen picture onto the clipboard (using "printscreen"), but when I try to paste it onto my document, I just get a shaded space there. I used to be able to do it without any problem.

I have WindowsXP.

Help?

A:Solved: unable to paste "printscreen"

What program are you Pasting into? I often use Alt-PrintScrn to get only the active Window so you may want to try some other windows. What program are you trying to get the snap shot of?

Hi,
I have Windows 7 with the classic theme.
I want to change/remove the text "Start" from Menu Start Button (that in left down corner of the screen).
I know how to change it (with ResHacker) in Windows XP but unfortunatelly this way is not possible for Windows 7.
Maybe someone could help me please.
Best Regards
vtold
