Error: Java Virtual Machine Launcher

Q: Error: Java Virtual Machine Launcher

On startup this error always comes up from "Java Virtual Machine Launcher" saying "program could not find the main class, program will exit". its really annoying i wondered if anyone knew how i could get rid of it?

i have windows xp home edition
i have no idea what program this is coming from although i think it might be something to do with limeshop because when i try and uninstall that the same error message comes up. (limeshop that comes with limewire)

if anyone can help that would be great!

Preferred Solution: Error: Java Virtual Machine Launcher

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can't get rid of this popup every time I open my pc.
I have tried everything.
Here's the error :

Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error : could not open 'C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg

There is no amd64 folder in the jdk1.6.0_21

Thank you.

A:Java Virtual Machine Launcher error

I don't actually know the answer to your problem, but there may be a clue in the error message where it refers to ' jdk1.6.0_21\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg' .

JDK refers to the Java Developers Kit, which is only needed if you intend to develop your own java applications or applets (see the explanation on the Sun download page;http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html). If you aren't a developer you probably have the wrong type of Java installed which is looking for a component you don't have.

As the JDK also includes the JRE that end users need, you probably don't need to do anything until you upgrade to the next JRE version when the next security scare turns up! If the popup is too irritating, I suppose you could uninstall the JDK and replace it with the JRE (although there are a few threads around here where people are having problems with Java uninstall and reinstalls).

As a matter of interest, do you by any chance have an AMD 64 bit processor, since that is the other thing the error message appears to mention?

Hi, it looks like some time ago my computer got infected. I tried to delete the virus manually, so I erased a file called servidorcito.jar (that's Spanish for "little server"). After that, the following dialog box keeps popping up every minute or so. If I don't dismiss it, it just sits there and a new one does NOT pop up.
Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error: Unable to access jarfile c:\Users\RRP\AppData\Roaming\Frutas\servidorcito.jar
(OK button)
Things I've tried:
Verified that .jar files are associated to javaw.exe
Checked startup items for calls to javaw.exe (found none)
Looked in registry for the string "servidorcito.jar" or suspicious uses of javaw.exe (found nothing)
Scanned whole computer with AVG free (found nothing)
Checked HiJackThis log for any obviously related items (found nothing)
The problem does not appear when only Java 32-bit is installed, it only appears when I install Java 64-bit. Uninstalling Java 64-bit makes it go away.
I've attached a picture of the dialog box and the DDS attach.log.
Here's dds.log:

Hi, Recently my antivirus found numerous trojans in C:/users/name/Temp/Local Folder, and seeing this I manually deleted all of the non-folders and non-.xml files in the Local Folder. Ever since then I kept on getting an error message on startup: "JAVA virtual machine launcherUnable to access .jar file sysboot2486260447034318996.jar" So I googled how to remove this error and came upon this site and the moderator nasdaq, who help resolve a similar problem with another user. Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with XP. I clean installed and everything went fine. When I go to a site to play an online game, my system comes up with an error and/or reboots. The error says I don't have enough Ram and something about an error with JAVA. I have 512 ram right now. I took that out and put in my 256 chip to see if maybe the ram is bad and it looks as if both are fine. So I tried again and as it loads the game, poof, it auto reboots.

I never had this problem with ME.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll keep it short. I have tried to access POGO as I have before. Now I'm getting an error message that the game I wanted to load will not because of an Error! You need Java to do this and I have loaded the latest Java from Oracle at least 10 times. Same error. I made sure all Java Icons are enabled through out my system. I am using Vista with IE 8. I used POGO troubling shooting to find any issues. The test for Java and the POPUP blocked tests come back fine and it says to enjoy my game, but when I try again the game fails to come up and I again get the error message.

I tried to contact HP of course I'm out of coverage. I tried to go online to chat with HP, as I found that they will help but, now the help line is also having problems with Java. They do not see it...
I get the message "No Java Support. Please install java virtual machine". I tried to reinstall Java again and it tells me that I'm up to date and no installation is needed.

I have been working on this problem for 2 weeks.... I'm retired and can not afford to pay someone...

Please help if you can Please.... Thanks

Have a friend who likes to view the Chicago Sun-Times sports section for hoop scores, etc. He has a shortcut on his desktop to do so.

Every time he goes to the website, an 'Install on Demand' prompt shows up. He gets the message: To display this page correctly you need to download and install the following: Java Virtual Machine. The website keeps asking for the most recent version of the Microsoft Virtual Machine.

The PC was bought brand new about 6 weeks ago. It is running Windows XP Home. You would thing the latest version of the Microsoft Virtual Machine would already be installed.

Downloading the Microsoft VM is always an option, but he does not get the prompt on any other websites, only on the one for the Chicago Sun-Times????

I transferred via the "wizard" my files and settings in XP to my new computer. I could not open some of my sites that required Java. One of the site said it would download Microsoft Virtual Machine. I pressed download, and was taken to the Windows home page, which said Windows does not support downloading of VM anymore, and that I could check the update site.

Which, of course, did not say I needed any updates. I checked the updates I put in, and saw nothing of Microsoft VM.

On my old machine, in Tools-Advanced, there is a whole Java section. In my new machine, there is no Java section.

Anyone know how I can get Microsoft VM or Java that works like it? It is no longer available on Microsoft's site as a download for xp.

the simple solution is to reinstall java. this at least would let you know quickly, if it is a java issue, or an issue with windows. since this is a virus related issue, I would also suggest you get back to the expert that was helping you or repost on this matter (describing the virus problem) in the malware forums. They are permitted and certified via training programs to help you look deeper and see if something was missed. I might even do this before messing with java at all, but that is up to you.

Critical Java Bug Targets Java Virtual Machine
By Ian Betteridge, ExtremeiPod
November 23, 2004

A highly critical vulnerability in Sun Microsystems Inc.'s Java plug-in has been discovered by a Finnish security consultant. The vulnerability could potentially allow a Web page to turn off Java's security feature and execute malicious code on a compromised machine.

The vulnerability affects JRE (Java Runtime Environment) Versions 1.4.2_05 and prior, Versions 1.4.1 and 1.4.0, and Version 1.3.1_12 and prior, running on Windows, Solaris and Linux. JRE Versions 1.4.2_06 and 1.3.1_13 and later are unaffected, and Sun recommends that all users upgrade their Java installations as soon as possible in order to avoid this vulnerability. This could be used to turn off Java's security system, disabling the "sandbox" mechanism that should prevent untrusted applets from gaining access to the system.

Once the sandbox restrictions are disabled, a malicious Java applet could be used to compromise... Read more
