Problem writing to 700Mb CD-RW

Q: Problem writing to 700Mb CD-RW

I have an OPTORITE 48x16x48 CD-RW drive, CW4802, running Win ME. It seems to write to CD-Rs and CD-RWs that are the regular density 650MB, 74 minute types. However, it balks a lot and gives me a generic error telling me the media is damaged or has scratches or the software is bad, etc. whenever I use 700MB CD-RWs.

I updated the firmware to the latest version, but it wasn't far behind anyway.

I am using new (never written to) Memorex disks. Any tips or fixes on how to overcome this problem would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This may not pertain to your problem but have you tried lowering the write speed down a bit? I find that some CD's within the memorex line and TDK line even thought they say 48x compatable or Multi Speed they balk at 700's. Another thought would be to hold your storage down to 650 to 675MB vs all of the 700.

Just some thoughts.

Hello,
if my english isn't what it should be, my apologies, I'm not used to write in English, cause i'm from Belguim.
Anyway, here it comes...

My girlfriend has a dvd of a movie but it's ruined, so I wanted to suprise here whit a cd (copie)...
I don't have a dvd writer so I have to burn an Avi file.
I have windows XP and went after a couple of 800MB cd's.
But if I try burning it, I get: this disk does not have enough free space, there 702MB free space on the disk, and 703MB to be written.
I've tried with "easy cd creator" and "nero burning" but neither of them recongnize the 800MB cd.
Then I've tried reducing the size of the file with windows moviemaker, but moviemaker (as usual), can't read "video clip" files.

Now I'm stuck...
I've found this site by searching google, and I hope someone will be able to help me!

THANKS !

Ben.

A:Problem with burning cd: XP thinks a 800MB cd is a 700MB

If there is only 1 meg more to write, you can enable overburn in Nero's options. Your writer should support that just fine. It could well be that the CD-ROM itself was not built for 800's.

Depending what version of Nero, under "Expert Features", you can also enable the generation of a short lead-out, giving you up to 12 megs more space on the CD.

Suddenly my eMachines Vista machine is taking up tons of ram. It has 1GB total (Performance shows ~864 total) and after a full power cycle reboot with NO programs open, the RAM usage is somewhere over 700MB! So a fresh reboot is showing almost 90% RAM usage. Task Manager only shows about 20 processes running, and i know nearly all of them--nothing strange pops out. I have also tried ending most of them, but the RAM stays at LEAST above 650MB usage--this is WAY too high for a freshly erbooted computer. This computer runs AVG antivirus, Quickbooks (which requires google desktop), but nothing else major. Only iTunes has been installed lately. Attached is my hijackthis log. Can anybody see anything that would be responsible for this irresponsible memory usage??Thanks, ben.

If your Cd doesn't support overburn, you will not be able to overburn!
However you may be able to compress your 701 MB files to make them smaller and fit within the 700mb limit

Thanks

A:80min/700MB CD-R help

Grenge,

The Adaptec Easy CD Deluxe 4.02 upgrade will recognize the larger cd-r's you can get the upgrade at the adaptec site. That is the version I've been using, it's just been released this month, but it does have the 80 minute cdr support. You can only upgrade to it if you have Easy Cd 4.0. Nero Burning Rom by Ahead would probably accomodate the larger CDR's also.

Good luck

Is there any program that can successfully fit a movie to 700 mb cd!??

A:avi to svcd fit 700mb disc

There are many programs that will output in SVCD compatible format and some also take care of the burning as well.

Only about 35 minutes of SVCD video can be maintained at full SVCD quality before the bitrate has to be lowered and if more than about 70 minutes of video is involved, its going to be a really awful looking movie and might not even be hardware compatible if the bitrate gets too low.

So if its more than an hour long go DVD. I use Pinnacle Studio 11 and Adobe Premiere Elements 3 and I suppose if I ignored the warnings and bypassed them I could cram however much SVCD video on a CD as I wanted but it would be rather pointless.

Hi,
I am currently having problems copying files to CD-R using XP. I bought these CDs called EMTEC High Performance, 700Mb, 80min and 48x certified. My burner is an Archos Mini CDR/W external thing which seems to have no problems burning other CDs.
So far I have destroyed two:
1. Copied about 100Mb of MP3s onto CD. Fine. Copied another 200Mb onto the CD. During the latter, as soon as the writing process started, I get an error saying there is a problem with the writing process and the CD may not be useable anymore. I removed the CD, put it in my normal CD drive, and it isn't recognised as a CD.
2. Go straight for about 200Mb this time and again, as soon as the writing process begins, I get the same error and the CD is non-recognisable by my CD drive.
I check the EMTEC website and the only thing it could be is a problem with 700Mb discs, which I have not used before. However, I see no upgrades for this on the MS-XP website. In fact, MS talk about different disc sizes as if it is part of everyday XP duties.
I then thought that perhaps it may be a problem with the disc's 48x certification, which should still be compatible with lower speeds. Again, on the EMTEC website, I notice that the 48x does mean UP TO 48x, so it should have been ok.
Any ideas anyone??? My hard-drive is critically low on space and I need to remove some stuff!
Thanks.

Although they are several hours of stories and memories they take up less than 600mb of space. Must I use multiple discs to save this on or is there a way to put it all on one disc? I'd like to send them to family members as gift and it would be easier & less expensive to send one disc than a dozen. Thank you so much for any insight.

Hi wizards,

I recently downloaded ca.25MB worth of "14 essential (Vista) updates" from Microsoft (see screen cap below); after installation and reboot the available space on C: dropped by a significant ca.700MB, which seems a little odd to me.

After an AntiVir sweep (clean) in Safe Mode I rebooted yet again, now having 'miraculously' regained ca.300MB (of the above 700).

Any ideas what's happening here?

Hi - have you AHCI enabled in the bios? If so it could be the driver Microsoft installs automatically during install - to fix this go to the below site and download and install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver if you haven't already installed it.
I think its updated with the chipset drivers now, so you could update them firstly, and see if that fixes the problem if not install the rapid storage driver - available on the same support page below.

You could try this microsoft fix if you have the rapid storage driver already installed assuming its suitable :

Hi,

I have a Blue-Ray Drive on my HP-G70 120. I am running on WIndows 7. Recently, my blue-ray drive has been disturbing a lot. I wrote to CDs and DVDs before, and it worked fine. Also, I can read from the discs, so I dont think there is a problem with the laser, rather I suspect some problem with the software.

My Problems are:
Clicking on the drive icon says its a blank disc, though the disc is not.
While at other times, ejecting the drive from windows or from the button says "An error occurred while ejecting BD-ROM". At other times it ejects fine.
I burned some files onto a CD that already had 80MB written on it, using BurnAware. Now, after burning, only the previous (80MB) are present there, but no sign of the newest write. Also, it shows "0 bytes free of 80MB" when clicking properties on the drive icon in Windows Explorer.

So How do I fix these problems?

Thank You

It is XP SP3 that is causing your problem. I have a Sony DRU 710A that stopped working after I installed XP SP3. It would not recognize any blank DVD media with Roxio or Nero. I pulled the drive out and put it in another machine that only had XP SP1 installed. The drive worked great. I then installed SP3 and the drive quit working again. I then uninstalled SP3 and the drive started working again. Microsoft needs to fix this problem. I hope someone can put enough pressure on them to fix this issue.

How long has the problem been occurring? If it just started happening, you may try to do a system restore. Make sure all of your personal files are backed up just in case of an error.

I can read and write CDs no problem and the drive will read already written DVDs(films, software etc). However when I insert a blank DVD the drive just keeps trying to access(green light on drive keeps flashing and drive is spinning) the DVD.

I am using DVD+R discs and have never had a problem in the past.

It may something simple or the drive might be just broken, but any help, advice or info would be much appreciated.

Hi

I run a Pentium 4 with XP Professional. It came with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.2 installed but I've never got around to using Roxio. I can play music CDs OK via Windows Media Player.

Realised I should be backing up my HD and tried to backup onto a CD-R with no joy so tried a CD-RW - no joy. Went and bought new CD-RWs in case the disks were at fault but still no joy.

Eventually found out that the Roxio version that I have can't be used on XP Professional so downloaded Nero 7 Demo. Still getting same messages.

When I try to copy I get a couple of different messages:
"Buffer underrun protection activated" and shows Type of disk in recorder: Empty
"Waiting for disc - Please insert disk to write to"

And previously got "Unrecognised data" and "insufficient space left" but it's a blank disk.

I've tried using Nero to do a quick erase but the Erase option isn't highlighted so can't.

I'm obviously missing something really basic ... anyone any ideas? I've attached aerror log in case this is of help.

Also, do I have to format all new disks before using and, if so, anyone know how to format using Nero 7 demo?

Many thanks.

A:Problem Writing To Cd-r Or Cd-rw

Hi Denise. Roxio and Nero don't like to cohabitate (I found out the hard way). Uninstall both of them for the time being.Download and run XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip and unzip the contents. Run the EXE file. Reinstall Nero. If this doesn't work you could try using an inexpensive optical drive cleaning disk available at large retailers and computer shops.---------------------------There are 2 ways to store data on a RW disk. The first way is to burn to it like it is a CD-R and then erase the whole disc to reuse it. The other way is to use Nero's InCD driver to format the CD-RW. This will allow you to treat the disc as a 500MB removeable disc in which you can add and remove files and folders in Explorer as if it was a gigantic floppy. Only computers running InCD will be able to write to the disc.

I installed a used TDK (24/10/40) CD drive in my Dimension 8100 machine and then installed the Nero 5.9x version with InCD. Once in, my CD wouldn't read/recognize other discs, not even commercial text discs. It only recognized InCD formatted CD-RW discs. I uninstalled Nero but now my CD ejects any disc except the specially formatted InCD discs. I've run System Mechanic (a registry repair tool), I've checked the device manager and the system information but cannot find anything that works.I installed a used TDK (24/10/40) CD drive in my Dimension 8100 machine and then installed the Nero 5.9x version with InCD. XP CD writing wizard writes files to CD. I get the message 'Your files have been successfully written to the CD'. The tray opens upon completion. When I close everything out an try to read CD contents from Windows Explorer it shows empty! I have tried the trouble shooter, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the CD driver all to no avail. When I burn files to the CD from Nero Express everything works fine. After this burn I can read the file OK from Windows Explorer. What gives? Am at my wits end. Any help appreciated.

Then, why can't you use Nero Express? Sometimes. when more than one burning software is installed, their drivers conflict.

Have you installed any other CD or DVD software? Have you uninstalled any?

Hello Djtheninja. Welcome to the Forum.

You can get that error message if you have bad media (defective CDs or DVD's)

To get out of the optical drive freeze just restart Windows. Eject the disk when the computer begins to restart.

Then try the burn with another disk. Keep in mind that if you bought a pack of cheap disks there could be many that are no good.

Hi folks

I have a horrible problem which is doing my tit in.

I just brought a pioneer dvr109. In the Uk this drive has received good reviews so i decided to buy it. I brought an oem version of dabs.com.

Now when i received this it had a fireware already on which was version 1.19 and i looked on pioneers website and there was another firmware update which was 1.40 which was only released in march. so i updated and it hasnt seemed to have sorted problem out.

The DVD rewriting side seems to be fine.

but for cd-rs i am having problems.

I use TDK cdr80 disks which can burn up to 52X. now i know my drive will only burn up to 40X which is fine, but when i used nero, which is version. 6.0.0.20. I can only burn at 4X.

does anyone know why this is.

I thought problems like these sorted them selves out with firmware, but i dont think it has.

I have tried the same brand but with numerious disks and have had no luck. b4 i did the update i was also using infiniti cdr-80 disks on a spindle. and these would burn up to 32X. but since the update these will only burn at 4X.

can anyone help, is there any issue with this drive, is it my nero version?

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
