Getting no sound from sound bar AX510 with Studio XPS 8100 (Is this a Windows 10 issue or is it the sound bar?)

Q: Getting no sound from sound bar AX510 with Studio XPS 8100 (Is this a Windows 10 issue or is it the sound bar?)

I have good sound with other speakers on this desktop, but I wanted to save some workspace on my desk, so I recently got a new AX510 sound bar and attached it onto a Dell 2208WFP monitor, one of the monitors listed for that soundbar. It powers up via the AC port built in to the monitor, just like it should, and I've correctly connected the audio cable on the soundbar audio output on my desktop. But there's no sound at all. I did get a static "pop" once... but no other sound.
So I am trying to figure out whether the sound bar is defective, or if this is possibly a Windows 10 issue, as I've read a few odd posts on the internet about people suddenly finding that previously working sound bars don't work in Windows 10.... or some other incompatibility (my desktop is a Studio XPS 8100, Windows 10). I realize all of my equipment is not the latest, but it's all been in great working condition and the one new addition is the sound bar... I did plug my old speakers back in again, and they still work just fine.
I was thinking I can test the sound bar by connecting it to another computer at work (tomorrow) that's running Windows 7. to determine if it's a Windows 10 issue -- or if it just doesn't work at all -- but would that be a definitive test it's not a Dell computer? Any other ways to diagnose the problem and pin it down? I can conceivably still return the sound bar if I determine it's defective...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have put the sound card into my computer and made sure that I've hooked up everything correctly, but I have ran into a problem with it. When I ran the download "Product Identification Module Update" from the Creative website, it's telling me that I don't have the right OS, and tells me to update to Windows 7 or later versions. Well, my problem is that I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, which I know is plenty new, and I don't understand why it's not letting me download the update/driver for the sound card. I had this issue before, all of a sudden the sound coming from my computer gets really quiet even though everything is maxed out. Before, it seemed to have been triggered when I moved my computer from one room to another. I wasn't able to move it back right away but when I did it was still happening. I removed the sound card I have, replaced it, tried different PCI slots, tested my onboard sound card, etc but to no avail. Eventually it fixed itself and I have no idea what caused it.

Earlier today my sound was working perfectly fine. I left my computer (on the entire time) to do other things and when I got back to it the volume is again really low. When it was happening before the sound seemed to be crackling on higher volumes but there's no crackling that I can hear this time. I again tried my onboard sound card and the issue was also affecting it. I normally use headphones but also tried speakers and the issue is still there on them too. Like I said though, my computer was on the entire time I was gone and nothing was changed but this suddenly started happening.

Considering it's affecting both sound cards I imagine it has to be an issue with something else, like my motherboard or Windows 7 itself. I wasn't able to find what was causing it last time though so honestly I have no idea.

Edit: Update, I found a pair of USB headphones and their volume seems fine. I hope this means something. I assume that with USB it's not going through either sound card (though that doesn't m... Read more

A:Reoccurring low sound issue affecting two sound cards

Hello and welcome Sakonoso now to me it seems that the audio through the USB port might be coming from the board audio and not the sound cards hence why it is ok. Having said that usually the on board stuff is usually cut off if there is a sound card installed.

Now it seems to narrow it down a little if this is the case and there are some things you can run sfc and a chkdsk to see if there is anything going on in the system

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html if you need to - run the latter using the /f and /r "switches"

The other thing to do is update the drivers if you haven?t done so already

Cheers all,

Problem is as stated in the thread; I downloaded, untar'd and set the theme up today. I know it's specifically the "Close Window" sound since it's unique from the others. I'm referring to the following actions in particular (there may be more things I could do to proc it, but I haven't checked yet)...
Opening a Program
Opening a Folder in Windows Explorer
Starting a new Windows Explorer Session
Closing a Window (expected function)
Closing a Windows Explorer Session (expected function)
Those not followed by (expected function) have a different sound assigned to them, although the Close Window sound plays anyways. Not always immediately after the action is performed, either - there can be anywhere from a 1 to 15 second delay before the .wav plays.

The sounds are located in C:\Windows\Media\AltimitOS\ with AltimitOS being a custom folder I copied in. I originally untar'd everything to the desktop, then created and moved everything into the folder and tried running the theme from there. I've made sure all file paths are leading to the \Media\AltimitOS folder.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers,

Hello everyone,

My audio has seem to quit on me. I updated to the newest drivers for my mobo (biostar A870U3) from their download page and now I get no sound whatsoever from my speakers. I have tried uninstalling all of the sound devices from the device manager and letting windows reinstall them, but to no avail. I have also made sure that the onboard sound is on in the bios. When I uninstall the sound devices, it defaults back to the windows default audio driver which won't recognize something is plugged in.
It greys out my speakers and then defaults to the Digital Ouput, but I have no such device. I then have also tried downloading the onboard audio drivers from the mobo download page and installing them. They install but it then defaults to the Realtek Digital Output (once again, I don't have such a device). If I go to the realtek HD audio manager and disable front panel detection, it doesn't even recognize any of my back panels being plugged in. Even if I try to plug in my headset mic, the manager doesnt pic it up.
If I play music at this point, the speaker shows the level volume changing but I dont hear anything. I've tried switching back and forth all configurations in the manager and changed the levels of things, still nothing. Can anyone help? Or am I gonna have to go pick up a sound card?

That picture also shows it trying to use the front jack, which I dont have hooked up because I want to use the back panel. So I'm assuming that may be part of the reason. And ... Read more

A:RealTek OnBoard Sound Issue - No Sound

The first thing I see is four HD Audio devices in the Device Manager that should be uninstalled (RIGHT click on the entry for the device and then LEFT click Uninstall) then restart the PC. Get rid of them to eliminate any possibile conflicts.

If there is a "default" setting for the sound outputs, set it to default and see if that helps.

I notice a web cam that is also showing up. They can tend to cause issues too so temporarily disconnect that from the PC while you are trying to get the system audio setup.

Ok, first of all, i'm not sure how to properly explain this, because it's confusing, but i'll try my best and if any more information is needed please let me know!

So, I bought this packard bell laptop preinstalled with windows 7 from pc world in September. And for as long as I can remember, i'm having issues with sound. Not huge issues, small issues that are really annoying.

What basically happens is, when i play music or any other sound, it plays fine, clearly, through my speakers and headphones (tested both), but every 30 seconds or so, it makes a buzzing noise that lasts around 2-3 seconds (sometimes longer, will be explained), and during those 2-3 seconds, my computer basically freezes. I can't move my mouse until the buzzing stops. This only happens when sound is played. I've had it tested and the sound card proved to be fine, so i'm not sure what the issue could be.

Occasionally, the buzzing would last forever, until I have to hold the power button down on my laptop, because I can't move the mouse/do anything, this happens rarely though, its more of a 2-3 second thing.

Some information about my speakers/drivers:

It's a packard bell easynote tx86, installed with:

Conexant High Definition Audio, and Intel (R) Display Drivers (According to device manager)
It has Dolby Home Theater featured on the speakers
On the control panel, according to the playback audio devices, it has: S/PDIF interface, a long with just "Speakers", both powered by the ... Read more

That?s a good questions and I never heard about such an issue...

I think at fist you should start to update the sound driver of your notebook. Therefore you can look on the Toshiba website for an update:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Before you install the newest version, you should remove the old version first and restart the notebook.

Maybe a reinstallation of Windows with the Toshiba recovery disk could be also useful and in worst case it?s a hardware malfunction and you have to exchange the mainboard. :(

Hey guys,
For the past few months, I've been grinding my teeth at how frustrating it is to try and get my sound drives to work.
At times, my audio would suddenly go mute; no indication of it, even when I adjust the volume. Opening MP3 or MP4 files results in errors, and so does sound tests. VCL play, but no sound is ever used. And opening videos online (Youtube and such) results in the video not making any progress past the 0:00 point.
At times the audio would come back, but for short periods of time. I've attempted to reinstall my sound drives, and though it was a success it proved to be temporary and would fall back into it's old habits.
I know this is not a malware issue, because I cleared my laptop out with programs a previous forum post provided me. I've been getting advice from a friend who is an expert on PCs, and he was the one who suggested I reinstall my sound drives. Now he thinks I should just format my laptop and reinstall windows.
I'm still unsure if this is a software issue, of if this is actually a hardware issue. I'm pretty close to just screaming "bleep it" and storming off to a local PC shop to get it repaired. If there is any other advice you guys could give me that could fix this problem once and for all, I would be very grateful.

A:Reinstalling a sound driver for onboard sound from a pre-packaged Windows XP

normally you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the orignal OEM drivers for your computers model and series.
usually under Customer service and support or downloads on the companies' website.

If not an OEM install from a major manufacturer such as Dell or Compaq etc, then you should still be able to find out the manufacturer of the motherboard itself and go to their website and do the same

Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I finally got video and sound to come out both the mobo and the NVidia video/HDMI card.
MOBO is Foxconn G41MXE. Sound system on mobo is NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition audio Controller, by Intel.
Video Card is GeForce GTX 550 Ti, with NVidia GF116 High Definition Audio Controller. Video card has HDMI output
connected to TV set, containing both video and sound. (Video from NVidia goes to both monitor and TV.)
Windows 8.1 with all updated drivers, as far as i know, based on two driver update apps. In Windows, there is
a significant delay between the audio coming from the mobo sound to the local speakers and the sound out of the
TV set. In PCLinuxOS on the same machine, there is hardly any delay. It is thus painful to watch a movie or a Youtube performance with any kind of speech or singing on Windows, due to the lack of lip-sync.
I need to know of there is a fix for this, and if so, where do I find it, or can somebody please post it here?

Thanx for your assistance--doug

A:mobo sound and HDMI sound not synced in Windows 8.1

You are using two separate "sound cards" (chips) at the same time (one in the Video Card and one on the motherboard). The processing in the chip can cause a delay or out of sync. Windows is designed to only have one default audio playback device. Circumventing that can cause problems, such as you hear.

Hi Coolman12 and welcome to the forum!

I did some digging regarding your Zalman ZM-RSSC, unfortunately zalman never released vista driver support for it. If you were able to make it work for Vista, you're chances to make it work for Windows 7, that pretty much tells you that you're out of luck

But there's probably one thing you might be able to do to make it work. Please try the Windows 7 Driver solution. It could be worth a shot.

Hi, I desperately need help with the following issue.
Well I just purchased a Sony Vaio VGN-Z790J and it had Windows 7 preloaded on it and the audio symbol in the system tray had a red cross and I couldn't locate the sound card in Device Manager. I have tried everything possible, re-installing the specifed drivers from the Sony Website, div x diagnostic, device manager and still the Sound Card is not being detected and there is still an audio symbol with a red-cross in it.
After spending endless hours to find a solution on the web, I decided to use the Windows Vista recovery discs to return the notebook back to its factory conditions. It took 4 hours and still there is no audio and the sound card is not being detected. I ended up calling Sony to seek some assistance but they were no help and they suggested to book it in for repairs. However, since there is no waranty left, I can't afford to do this. Furthermore, I have also enquired about a new mother board and i was quoted $700-$800 - once again I can't afford this.
Can you guys suggest anything, or has anyone had a similar issue that they were able to solve. I really need help and assistance would be much appreciated.Thanks.

I am updating my original posting (below) because of new situational information. It worked to play the theme the first couple of boot ups but has since stopped playing any sound at boot up..........Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue and/or why it isn't working reliably and how to fix it? All comments and suggestions are appreciated with thanks.....

I have two inter related questions. First off I have been doing some investigation on the Internet about problems with the Windiws 10 boot up ( not the log on log off sound) sand and they're being possibly no actual sound assigned in the current release of this OS. Some of the information I have come across shows that there may very well not be one assigned by Microsoft at this point in time and other investigations have yielded that it might actually be a technical problem. Does anybody have more detailed information on this problem which seems to be a bit widespread?

I also have a question about the ability to customize this. I was able to learn how to hack one of the DLLs in the windows seven operating system to change the actual boot up sound. I am a... Read more

Regarding the lost 'Windows Startup sound', perhaps, see this:
Event ID 3 - Session "ReadyBoot" stopped - error: 3221225864

I don't know how to change it tho. It would be nice since
I can't get the Logon/Logoff sounds to play at those events!

My windows XP Professional sound  system is not working porperly. When I boot up XP the Windows, the XP start up music starts to play and then suddenly shuuts off. After it boots I have no sound on my system or at best intermittent sounds. I checked my the device manager and there are no conflicts. I tried re-installing my sound drivers ( Creative Sound Blaster Audigy) but the best I get is intermittent sound. I tried almost every anti-virus, anti-malware rootkit program on your site but i stil have a problem with no sound.
I hope that someone can help with this problem.

This may help others having the same problem... After spending a whole evening trying to get sound from a successful installation of the sound card and driver, I decided to give it one more attempt. the next morning (with a fresh brain) . Here's what I did differently to get it to work...

Disabled Auto Installation of Drivers
Disabled Virus Protection and Firewall
Disabled Onboard Audio (BIOS)

Installed Sound Card
Installed Standalone Driver SB24_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0090
Opened Sound Control Panel > Speaker Properties > Custom and selected Digital Output Only (my speakers are digital) omit this if your speakers are analog

Hope this helps!

I'm sure you have had alot of these, and the last time I re installed windows xp professional I had this problem and somehow managed to fix it but now I am stuck, I have simply re-installed service pack 2 from the disk and there is no sound playing at all, obviously something to do with drivers or lack of.

I downloaded lavalys's Everest and it has told me that...
Audio Adapter: SiS 7012 Audio Device

This is all I know, also when I attempt to play something in Winamp, I get this message.

Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 8878000A
Could someone please direct me on what to download etc? I think the last time I fixed it, it was something to do with realtek however I tried installing the codecs and everything and it has solved nothing.

Please help, Thanks, Toby.

Hi, iv just installed a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate, and iv noticed something strange with the startup/welcome sound.

The sound that windows plays to welcome you to the desktop seesm to execute before I even type my password in, and when I do type my password in, it plays the sound when you'v locked your PC and to log back in, its that same one.

Is this the same on your PC's? Has it been desgined to play like this?

Hello John,

In the Sound scheme settings, you actually have 3 different sounds for this. One is the Windows Startup sound, Windows Logoff sound, and the other is the Windows Logon sound. You can change or turn them off.

Hope this helps,

Hello, TechSupportForum.

After i re-installed Windows 7 on my PC, there has been a ton of drivers missing. I have though been able to find and install most of them, but there is still a few that are missing or outdated, and those cause quite some trouble on my PC.

My problem is that after i re-installed Windows 7, i have had some bad troubles with my digital sound (SPDIF). Just after the re-installation, and a few weeks after that, it has worked, but if i do not have a running sound source all the time, the sound suddenly shuts down, and i have to restart my PC for it to work again.

So i basically had a Windows Media Player running all the time, running with a song, but with the volume of WMP at 0 %. So that sound source was the reason i actually still had sound.

Now just today, i can't make it work at all. The sounds shut down (because i forgot to have a running sound source), so i restarted my PC, and that used to fix it, but not this time. Now there's no sound at all. I have tried to change the kHz in "properties" of the SPDIF sound device, changing formats. I went in advanced settings to try and change the "bit rate" and "kHz" but then it just says: "The format isn't supported by the device", and it says that with every single one of them.

So i have no digital surround sound, the only way i can have sound with this headset, is by using the "USB sound" it also offers. But there is no way i have spent so much ... Read more

Hey, I need a bit of help

I'm running a Dell inspiron laptop, if this helps, but I recently had what I believe was a virus on here, my internet security (McAfee and Windows Defender) were both being turned off from time to time and I had to manually turn them back on.
Then my laptop started slowing down so much it took 3 hours to complete 12% of a scan with only that running. I decided to do a system restore to about 2 weeks ago, hoping to fix the problem.

After 4 hours of it saying the same thing whilst trying to complete the restore (Windows is repairing the registry), I decided it was time for some intervention as it seemed to be stuck in some never ending loop.
I got the recovery CD and then turned my laptop off mid-restore, which it didn't like. Upon turning it back on I only got a blue screen and mouse, but I got it to boot from the CD and did a boot recovery and Disk Check. All is working fine, apart from I am left now with no sound.
(On a side note, the boot start isn't the same as before and it says that the Autochk is missing, Skipping Autocheck)

I've checked the device manager, which is telling me everything is working fine, apart from in sounds it cannot play a test sound.
I've run a Dell Support Center check, which told me everything was running fine apart from a PCI Family Bus Port 5 - 2495, which failed to run the test, but windows again was saying that this is working fine.
Apart from the fact that my laptop now has no sound, the only other thing pointing... Read more

A:No sound, yet windows says the sound card is fine?

Boot in safe mode with networking
Safe Mode

Download install and let the following program update and scan.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer
Next run a secure file check (this can be done while still in safe mode as well)
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Okay once that is done and we know the source of your problems is gone.

we need to see if you really got rid of the problem files first.

Once you've done that post back with the exact model of your inspiron

A couple weeks ago my mobo died, and yesterday the replacement one from Abit came to me. I installed it in about 2 minutes and checked all the connections and it booted up fine. Everything works fine except that there is no sound at all. Period. Nothing from wmp, no windows sounds, no game sounds, etc. I tried reinstalling the sound drivers for my mobos built in sound (ac 97) but it still doesn't work. The drivers recognize that my headphones are plugged in but they still don't work(so I know that the analog ports ARE NOT dead). I know the headphones (Icemat Siberia) work as I was using them with another computer when I was waiting for my replacement mobo. Anyone have any suggestions because I really would like my sound back Thanks in advance.

Sound's like you have done all the checks, my suggestion is the board is faulty, can you contact ABit and ask them for advice or a returns number.
