T470 Bizarre keyboard and mouse issue

Q: T470 Bizarre keyboard and mouse issue

Hello, I purchased this T470 less than a year ago, and yesterday I encountered a bizarre keyboard and mouse issue. First thing that happened was my keyboard stopped working. And then it began beeping continuously. I suspected sticky keys, but it was disabled. I restarted the laptop to be greeted with more beeping and the ease of access narrator informing me of how to make my computer easier to use. At this point I attached an external keyboard and it worked fine. I had work to do, so I just disabled the speakers and went about my day. I could find no solutions online so last night I reset the computer to factory settings. This solved my beeping issue, and the narrator, and now the letters on the keyboard are functioning, but most other keys such as Enter, backspace, and most of the function keys are, ironically, non-functioning. And let out a single beep when pressed. Furthermore my mouse pointer has gone up in size, and while I can make it bigger it will not return to the default size even when selected from the Ease of Access menu. At this point I have removed the keyboard, and am assuming something may have gotten spilled on it, or it shorted somehow. I have no explanation for the ease of access narrator, or the pointer size issue, unless some combination of keys were resulting in these being changed. At this point it seems I'll need to purchase a new keyboard, but I figured I'd check here before that in case anyone had an alternative solution.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi All, My Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro has been presenting itself with a bunch of inter-related problems that have made it difficult for me to google the symptoms: 1: Bottom row of keys (Z-?)+ spacebar does not work2: Backspace works, but only once. If I type another3: Some keys are mapped incorrectly: pg down turns the screen blank (like the f9 key), the screen brightness down works but also pulls up the project screen (f10), there are probably others I haven't found yet4: Mouse trackpad works only intermittently5: While typing strange things sometimes happen (things being highlighted or deleted randomly) as though keys/the mouse were being pressed. I've bought a USB keyboard w/ a trackpad and thankfully it works.  I'm currently using it with my screen folded back to try to eliminate the built-in trackpad but problem #5 persists. These problems started up yesterday. I did a full virus scan (nothing turned up) and then recovered Windows 10(keeping my files) and all problems continued. My keyboard drivers are up to date. This whole situation is strange and kind of difficult to describe, so I apologize if things are unclear. This description wasn't comprehensive, I've neglected some smaller effects that go away. I appreciate any help you might have.

My MS keyboard is behaving weirdly. When I press shift+2, it gives " instead of @

Likewise other keys have their symbols swapped.

Problem came up after installing windows 8 but am not too sure I should be blaming MS for it.

Is it software or hardware issue? Any ideas?

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX520 with Windows XP SP3 that I had moved and upon moving it I could no longer get the USB Mouse and Keyboard to work. They appear to work fine when going into bios and the USB Controller is on in bios, however when XP starts and I get the logon screen (on a network requiring ctrl-alt-del to get the logon box), niether the mouse or keyboard works. This is in either safe mode or starting XP normally. After playing around with it I was finally able to get the mouse to work in a single port but not any other port. I am also not able to get the keyboard to work in any port, including the port I got the mouse to work in. Both did work fine before moving the computer. I think it is an issue with XP and thinking about re-installing XP, but wanted to see if anyone has any ideas before I do so that I do not have to wipe everyting doing an install. Thanks!!

So I have a wireless logitech keyboard and wireless trackball that I use for my desktop. Quite often my keyboard and trackball just freezes (or possibly disconnects and reconnects). For example I'll be typing something and all of a sudden it stops and then catches up seconds or up to a minute later. Its really annoying/frustrating. When I type with a bluetooth keyboard I have no freezing issues whatsoever. I'm thinking I might have connection interference between the keyboard/mouse and the usb dongle connected to my desktop? My desktop is using a wireless card and connected to my network on the 2.5ghz band. Could that be an issue? In the same room I have a smart TV, another laptop and desktop, and a printer connected to the same network.

Any advice and/or suggestions is appreciated on how I can fix this.

A:Keyboard / Mouse Issue

Most likely. See Bluetooth operates on different channels/frequencies than traditional WiFi networks. 2.4ghz is a common frequency used for many wireless devices we use today, so interference is more and more prominent these days.

That is why the 5.0 GHz (dual band wifi) frequency was introduced. It allows connections in areas flooded with traditional interference.

I honestly would stick with the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and retire the other set. Bluetooth has better range anyway as well.

Not sure what the heck happened. But here's the info.

For some reason on my laptop I cant type certain letters. Typing "H" makes it immediatley zoom over to the Help tab.

Pressing F goes to File.

If I double click a file to try to open it, it instead opens the properties Tab.

It does the same when I tried the Software Keyboard, and when I connected a seperate keyboard.

I have no idea how this happened. Help?!?!?!

I had this system:
mobo - Asus M4N78 Pro
PSU - Antec earthwatts 500w
GPU - XFX HD Raedaon 4770
CPU - AMD Phenom II X 4 940 BE
mouse/keyboard - HP from retail M8300F (PS2 connection)

I've upgraded all of my hardware and moved into a new case and shelved the old system.
When I had the old system operational a year ago, my keyboard/mouse would power off when system was turned off. Now I've reassembled the old system for my son and it all works great except for the mouse and keyboard. Now when the system powers down the mouse/keyboard stays powered on, the lights on the keyboard stay lit and the lazer on the mouse stays lit as well.

I've unticked the box's in device manager for power management, I've checked the BIOS for any setting for power modes and all are disabled. So why does my mouse/keyboard still have power.

Hi all, hope everyone is well.

I wonder if anybody can help. Until recently when I had my Logitach wireless keyboard and mouse plugged in via PS2 connection my XP Pro box went into standby perfectly. Worked like a charm.

However, recently I had cause to plug in the mouse and keyboard via the USB port (for some bizarre reason that I haven't figured I could not get them to work together in the PS2 ports anymore - but are fine in a USB port though - odd) and now XP goes into standby fine BUT all the PCs fans are still purring away as is I think is the HD.

It seems that since I am now on "USB wake up" the PC thinks that it needs to stay powered up. The point of standby for me is to kill the noise and the poswer consumption!

Has anybody seen this before and have any ideas how to remedy? Is this how it's supposed to work - does USB need the power to regognise a wake up call from the keyboard/mouse?

Thanks a lot.

A:Standby Issue (USB keyboard and mouse)

if your fans and HDD are still running, then your PC is not going into stand-by fine.

since they first introduced it, stand-by mode has been known to cause stability issues and system "screw-ups", such as the problem you are having right now. I won't use stand-by mode for this reason

my advice would be:
1. plug your input devices back into the PS2 ports you had them in before
2. run system restore to a date prior to the problem
3. don't use stand-by anymore

good luck

Recently there was a storm, and since the internet was down I turned off my computer and just went to bed. Both keyboard and Mouse were working fine. Returning home from work the next day (I didn't turn on my computer that morning before going to work) I booted up and both wouldn't work. After plugging them into different ports, I finally found ones that worked and logged in. I got some strange New Hardware Device prompts for HID-compliant devices. If I clicked to install drivers automatically, three prompts would come up, each the same, and after them all my mouse and keyboard would cease to function. Restarting enabled me to play the jumping game again to find which ports would work this time, and when the prompts came up I promptly clicked 'cancel', and all three just disappeared. I can now do anything like normal, but I'd like to know why I have to play a game just to log in and use my computer normally, not to mention my keyboard and mouse are plugged in awkwardly most of the time. I've been able to use my keyboard perfectly fine in my bios though. I was also having trouble with a friend's jumpdrive when he came over, but my External Hard Drive has been working perfectly fine in all the ports. Any ideas? I'm using a Razor Lachesis Mouse and a Razer Lycosa Keyboard to be specific.

Hey guys,

This problem came out of nowhere...I realized that flash drives weren't recognized by my computer. As my computer was shutting down, I got a BSOD saying that AppleCharger.sys was the culprit. After researching the problem, I restarted the computer - but now Windows didn't recognize any of my USB inputs. They work in the BIOS, but upon reaching my login screen (regular boot and safe mode), my mouse and keyboard don't work. I did a System Restore to a state 5 days ago, still doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?...

Thanks in advance

A:Issue with USB inputs, can't use mouse or keyboard

You have a gigabyte motherboard? They have a utility to turn off the charging utility because it's a common culprit of bluescreens.

I would unplug the computer with your power cable, hold the power button for 10 seconds, and the reseat the cable and turn the PC back on.

Also reset BIOS to defaults and try again.

I'm having a problem with the interactions between the mouse and keyboard and the computer. When using the scroll wheel, the webpage that I'm viewing will begin to zoom in and out. Clicking the scroll wheel usually fixes the issue. Sometimes I will left click to open a shortcut and receive the properties box, so in order to open anything I have to right click and use the open option. Sometimes clicking on anything will result in the File option opening at the cursors location and refuse to leave, instead just flickering. Keyboard works for awhile and then refuses to respond correctly, opening dialog boxes, not responding, etc.

Reinstalled all drivers, rebooted system, cleaned the inside of the computer, tried other mice and keyboards all with the same effect.

Go into the mouse properties window and see if the scrolling wheel is set to "Universal Scroll"(or something like that) and not set to "Zoom".

The Win8 switch has gone fairly well for me (which apparently is better than most). I only have one problem, but it is extremely annoying and I can't figure out a solution.

Whenever any keyboard input is captured (i.e. typing this right now, alt-tabing, windows key shortcuts) my mouse (integrated laptop touchpad) becomes unresponsive until I click. So basically after typing I have to right or left click before I can move my cursor or perform any touchpad gestures. Usually it's just an annoying thing to have to do after I get done typing something, but it becomes a problem when I have to click on something I didn't want to because it's where I left my cursor when I started typing.

Does anyone have any ideas? All software is up to date, just installed the default driver for my touchpad (which win8 didn't carry over for some reason) and the problem continues.

A:Any ideas? Keyboard + Mouse issue.

Look though your mouse/touchpad settings for "Hide cursor when typing" or something similar. If you find something like that try disabling it. One of the most annoying things about the laptop touch pads is accidental taps from you palm while typing. I do believe some of the newer systems have options to disable it while your typing.

Hi guys, i've got an issue where my mouse and keyboard are not working at all. They are both ps/2 versions.

I have restarted many times, and i am also unable to carry out a system restore for some reason.

Under device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark under mouse and keyboard devices. They both give the following message:

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

I have tried uninstalling, and then installing drivers again, but no luck.

I scanned for several malware spyware issues, and i did remove a lot using various tools mentioned on some threads.

I have used the following tools:

Spybot search and destroy

Malwarebytes Anti Malware

ESET Nod32 Antivirus

Online Kaspersky scanner
A few threads mentioned enabling the option through regedit, particularly the kbclass to be set to 1. I have made these changes, but did not work.

Haven't used hijackthis before, so i guess i'll need to use that ...

At the moment i am remotely connected to the computer facing the problem, and the mouse/keyboard works fine using the remote pc.

Please could you advise on what i should do....

Hi, I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and both my Logitech mouse and keyboard special buttons (forward, back, zoom, etc.) no longer work with Firefox (using latest version). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, which didn't do anything. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Logitech Setpoint software (latest version). That worked for a day and then suddenly stopped working again, maybe after I restarted (I can't recall). I've called Logitech Support which told me they don't support Firefox and that since they haven't had any calls from anyone else on this issue today, that it is "definitely" my system that is the problem, not their software.

The Setpoint software shows all the buttons correctly assigned, but they don't function in Firefox. They do however function in all my other programs. I've even tried assigning ALT+Right and ALT+Left to the back and forward buttons as some forums have suggested, and while Setpoint recognizes these entries, Firefox does not.

Thanks to anyone who might be able to help!

A:Odd Lagging/Keyboard and Recently mouse disconnecting Issue.

Where are you plugging in your mouse and keyboard? Can you try using both devices on another computer and see if they work fine there?

There could be 2 issues that I can see so far:
1 - Both USB ports/headers on the front of your case are faulty/have a bad connection. Please check the connection of the header you are using in the front for the mouse

2 - The Mobo's USB header that is connecting your keyboard is faulty/damaged/broken. You may need to send in your mobo to AsRock if you are still under warranty.

3 - There is a bad connection somewhere inside the cable for the devices, causing them to disconnect when it moves slightly - ie. the copper wire inside the insulation is broken, and disconnects when the cable moves.

As you said, AsRock Mobo's aren't of the highest quality, and it's possible that you have yourself a faulty mobo. Furthermore, lower quality mobo's are more prone to wear over time.

I don't know why you have 3 different CPU 'options', as the CPU will always be unique (ie. it's either an i7-3770k, an i5-3570k, or an i5-3750k - they are all different in some way or another). Please clarify this with us by following these instructions:
Step 1 - Open your control panel

Step 2 - Find and click on "System"

Step 3 - Under the 'System' section in the window, locate the processor. It should have the model number (either an 'Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770k', an 'Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3750k', or an 'Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570k'.Thanks.

Hi there, this is my first time posting, sorry if this is the wrong place for this kind of query!
My main set-up is a Dell latitude e4300 on a dock, with a wireless Bluetooth mouse and keyboard combo (also both Dell branded). This was all good until one day I was advised to update some drivers, some of which were to do with the Bluetooth equipment. After having done this, some of the programmable functions of the mouse and keyboard have stopped working (the multimedia buttons at the top of the keyboard, and the scroll wheel/side buttons of the mouse).
I checked the "Bluetooth Devices" in control panel and it is blank (all of my devices have disappeared, not just the keyboard/mouse). It can't seem to find any devices anymore, which is bizarre seeing as I wrote this entire post using the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard... I tried a program from Dell called "Setpoint" to try and solve this, but that doesn't recognise my mouse/keyboard either. I tried a system restore, but for some reason I was given an error message telling me the system restore couldn't be performed and that nothing was changed.
Any advice please? :(

First of all, thanks for the patience to read all this.

My road to this post started a few weeks ago when I installed an amplifier. My computer was working just fine before, but when I put the amp in it would no longer boot. No beeps or anything, but the monitor mouse and keyboard wouldn't come on. Thinking the amp caused the problem, I took it out and it still wouldn't boot. I systematically tried different parts and eventually got it working again by switching which IDE cable the optical drives and hard drive were on (DVD drives used to be on ide1, hdd was on ide2 -- put hdd on 1 and dvds on 2 and it would boot again). So left well enough alone and everything was working fine again, until last night.

I got a stick of 256MB to put in my system which I bought online. My computer was already off, but I absent-mindedly turned it on and it worked just fine. I remembered that I received my RAM and turned my system off to install it. I put it in and tried to turn it on and I got beeps and smelled something. At this point I'm thinking I may have not had it in there properly. I took it out and tried to turn it on again but there were still beeps, but no more smell.

I've taken it all apart and put it back together and it still beeps. It's a 1 second long beep followed by 3 seconds of silence, which repeats indefinitely. I believe it's a Phoenix bios and I've read a couple different things about what this beep means. Someone told me that I need to... Read more

My name is Gabe and I am first off NOT a computer expert. I know enough terminology to get me in trouble but I don't pretend to be a expert.

Here is the setup with the issue:

HP Pavilion Elite m9360f PC running Windows 7 Ultimate x64

2 monitors (both running from DVI ports)

USB Mouse and Keyboard

The Issue:

While I am using the computer the mouse and keyboard will randomly SHUT OFF. No power, no nothing, its like the USB port suddenly turns itself off. The screen is still up but the mouse is frozen.

I am then forced to hard reset. When I turn the computer back on it fires up just fine blinking away but the screens don't engage (aka the light on the screen (Samsung Sync Master 206BW) just blinks in standbye mode, aka never receiving a signal from the computer).

The mouse and keyboard also never light up.

I am then forced to hard restart and the same issue keeps happening.

Usually after about 5-8 times the screens light up and the mouse and keyboard turn on. I can then start my computer normally

I then will get a random amount of time before it starts all over again.

This is incredibly frustrating so any help anyone can provide will be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks a billion,

I have the problem where after uninstalling Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 and restarting the computer, the mouse and keyboard both don't work, as mentioned here http://support.kaspersky.com/9241# but my problem is that since both the mouse and keyboard don't work, I don't know how one is supposed to even handle the steps outlined there. For example, I passed "Step 1: Create the Rescue Disk", but I don't know how to do "Step 2: Start the Rescue Disk" because it mentions pressing a key, but no keys can be pressed in this scenario. I'm using Windows 8, which is infamous for being unable to utilize boot disks and boot USB flash drives. And I downloaded Windows 8 as an upgrade from Windows 7, so I don't have a physical Windows 8 disk, nor know anyone else with Windows 8, if Windows 8 would even recognize that disk when booting in the first place, that is. What to do to get the keyboard and mouse working again? I'm currently using an old laptop to type this.

Odd one, not sure if anyone can help. Have a Dell Vostro X13 and for some reason, when you press the left arrow key it produces nb and when you press the up arrow key, it produces hg/.

Anyone got any suggestions please?

A:Bizarre keyboard problem

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your keyboard driver to see if that would help. If you have access to another keyboard, you may also want to try that to see if the one you currently have isn't working properly.

For the last few weeks, when I am typing quickly in any kind of screen including word, I will find a grey message comes up on the screen that says "Launching Email", and then an AOL window will open up with the Yahoo logon screen. This is particularly annoying as I am a writer for a living and type extremely fast!

I contacted AOL tech support, but their response was that it must be a keyboard shortcut put there by an add on or program running in my system put there by Yahoo. However I cannot find any program in my "Currently Installed Programs" that seems to fit this.

Any ideas?

Ok so you know how in notepad if you press and hold a button it will repeat like thissss
Etc. However if I press and hold shift key in a game it thinks I'm pressing it a million times. Up pops sticky keys. This problem started over night. I use the 1 button as my press to talk button in games. No one can hear me because if I press it down to talk it thinks I'm press/release/press/release etc. Is it a software issue or hardware?

In the last week, the following has been happening:

If I hold down "i" this is the output: iuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
If I hold down "m" this is the output: muuuuuuuuuuu
If I press "b" and "backspace" simultaneously: uuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

If I hold "h" and press "e": The screen that comes up when you click on File|Print comes up.

If I type "oh" kind of fast: o\h
If I type "ho" kind of fast: h\o

If I type "ba" kind of fast: uba

Those are all the errors I've pinpointed thus far. This is EXTREMELY bizarre; I have no idea why this is happening. Can someone please let me know what's going on? I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with hacking or anything.

The keyboard just started malfunctioning on this Ideapad 100s, which is about 6 months old.  On the 2nd row of alphabetic characters (starting with ?A?) the only ones that work are ?G? and ?H?.  If I disconnect and reconnect the battery the keys start working again, until at some point (maybe after logging off and on) the problem returns.  A USB keyboard works fine.  The bizarre thing is that plugging in a USB keyboard makes the 100s keyboard work, and it continues to work after unplugging the USB plug.  This makes me think the fault is not in the keyboard, but somewhere in the software. The warranty has just expired ? obviously the warranty period was judged to perfection.I?m thinking there must be an easier trick to perform to get the keyboard working ? surely Lenovo knows about this by now.

I have recently been delivered a T470 Thinkpad.I need to replace the current Swiss Chicony Backlight keyboard that was delivered with it (because I am based in Switzerland and my company did not allow a configuration change for the initital order of the laptop) to a UK one. Like-for-like swap just different language.Could anyone please advise the UK English keyboard part number that is the equivalent of the existing Swiss one on the machine (which I believe is 01AX514) ?Thank you.

Hi,I just bought a T470 and had it delivered today, but it turnes out that I forgot to choose the backlit keyboard, which is pretty sad because I really need it. Is there a possibility to do a single purchase of the keyboard, or is there any other way to upgrade it to backlit.

I'm used to periodic lapses when Windows forgets that I have a Bluetooth mouse & keyboard but today's behaviour was really weird.
Fortunately I keep a wired mouse and keyboard strategically hidden just in case.

I just booted into W7 and noticed on the log-on screen that the mouse was behaving erratically - would judder around the screen rather than glide.

Anyway I uninstalled it once I'd booted up and went to reinstall it. It worked but Windows asked for a restart. This had never ever happened before. It even asked for the WEI to be refreshed! I've checked and I can't see anything different driver-wise. I've gone through the motions of uninstalling/reinstalling mouse and keyboard dozens of times but never had this happen.

Comments anyone?

Hi Lenovo, I have a strange issue with the USB-C Dock  If I plug-in my Logitech G502 mouse then it will work for a minute and then randomly hangs and freezes. If I plug-in the mouse directly into my Lenovo T470 then everything works fine What I've tried: - Update of Intel Chipset Driver- Update of Firmware (of Laptop and Docking Station)- Restart of laptop many times- Swap of docking station (exact same model)- Reinstall of Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver- Remove of device via device manager- Remove of Logitech G Software (and reinstall)  It doesn't matter where I plug the mouse into the docking station it will freeze after a minute for about 30 seconds. Then it will work again for 30 seconds and then freeze forever.  Laptop is connected via USB-C cable to the rear USB-C port of th dock so that the battery will be charged as well. Regards, Alex
