Portege R30 - touch pad left clicking or tapping do not work

Q: Portege R30 - touch pad left clicking or tapping do not work

Left clicking or tapping do not work.
Tried to reinstall driver or restart in safe mode but it only works for 2-3 minutes and stops again.

Preferred Solution: Portege R30 - touch pad left clicking or tapping do not work

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Portege R30 - touch pad left clicking or tapping do not work

And what is with right click?
It is really strange that touchpad stops working just partly.

Hopefully someone can help me with this, because I'm not sure what to do with it anymore.

This started last week when I was having an issue with Google Chrome. It would open and close tabs when I clicked on them, so I did a virus scan and removed it and everything was fine. Well, the virus came back, so I did the same thing, but it won't go away, and it's not effecting my mouse. Whenever I try to click and drag, it stops/sticks, and it does the same thing with my mouse pad, so I know it's not a low battery on my mouse. I have a Logitech M305 mouse, and my laptop is an Asus with Windows 7 64 bit and Nvidia GeForce G210M.

I hope someone can help me with this issue, because it's starting to drive me crazy! Thanks!

Hello sjd52613 and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like the malware might not have been completely removed. Suggest you rescan again with two highly rated free products.

The Pc is running Win XP with SP2. When at the desktop you left click on a folder the hour glass shows but then disappears and no action. If you right click and then select "open" it works fine. Also if you click on a shortcut for Word, Excel or IE it opens fine.
I have removed the mouse drivers and added them again and had no change.

What happens if you open up my documents and try left-clicking on a folder to open it? Same behavior, or is it just on the destkop that this happens?

Ok so 3 days ago I decided that it was time for a fresh install of Vista so i pop in the installation disk and everything goes nice and smooth. I then precede to installing drivers chipset etc then i get to the sound driver so i head the the Asus site and grab both the official (not beta) drivers and about half way through the driver installation i start hearing a clicking/tapping sound kinda like clicking on a link in IE (shudders) so i reboot as requested by the installer and when it boots into windows it still making the same noise. I suspected the speakers were dyin on me so I plugged them into my laptop and they work fine I then decide to try head phones still the same noise. I reboot again and once i get into windows a message pops up saying "The sound driver failed to load....... you may have to reinstall the driver" or something like that.

At this point I'm fed up and decide to reinstall Vista again, but this time i use all the drivers from the cd that came with the mobo and the exact same thing happens.

I thought I found this topic in here earlier, but can't find it now.

The problem I was experiencing with my Toshiba Satellite A215 Laptop was a very annoying window resizing when I tapped in the upper right corner of the touch pad, and a minimizing of the window when I tapped in the lower right corner.

By accident I found the setting that controls this function. Here is how to disable it:

Open Control Panel and click Mouse
Click on Device Settings
Click Settings
Click + (to the left of) tapping
Click Tap Zones
Click Enable Tap Zones box so no check mark appears
Click Apply
Click Apply on the Mouse Properties Dialog Box

Ok I have this laptop that belonged to my father and I have a problem. Basically I am wanting to turn off the 'tapping' on the touch pad but I just can't.
I have searched online for an answer but nothing I try will work. There are no settings in the control panel, either in the mouse settings or anywhere else that let you turn the tapping off.
Something I read said to press Fn and F9 but that does nothing.
I do remember turning the tapping off once when my dad had the laptop but I can't do it the same way because I installed a fresh copy of Windows and it wasn't from the recovery CD so the software for the touch pad isn't there.
I have tried searching for the software but it appears that this model of laptop doesn't exist!
It is a Toshiba Equium EA60-173 and the model number is PSA67E-00700C8J but I just can't find anything to do with the laptop on the Toshiba website. I did manage to find and try a program called Toshiba Touch and Launch which let me change some aspects of the touch pad but not the blasted tapping.
So if anyone can think of anything else I can try apart from what I have tried already then I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance.

It's loosing release finger event.I've reported it on kernel issue tracker: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195625 and I've got reply that it is caused by touch screen firmware. I've also wrote an e-mail on mailing list: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg51249.html . Kernel support team claim that without firmware update, touch screen can't work correctly. Can Lenovo you prepare such a firmware fix or support kernel's team how to handle such a situation? Arek

Since purchasing my HP Spectre prior to Christmas I have experienced ghost tapping with the touch screen. Either as randomly timed taps in the same location or continuous taps in the same location. Resetting the device stops it from happening but within around 30 minutes to an hour of use the tapping returns and will be in a different location from the previous session. Having this issue from day one is very dissapointing and I wasn't expecting to have such an issue believing HP to provide quality products. Since searching for the issue I can see that others also experience the fault. Seems odd that a premium product can have so many units with faults and a fault that was known about in previous products. I'm not confident that a repair will give me much assurance that the issue won't return so may seek a refund from where I purchased it. A little saddened by that as I was looking forward to owning the new Spectre 360. I haven't experienced HP support before, do others have experience and have others had a good experience with the new Spectre 360? I like the device so would prefer to get it fixed, but I start Uni next week and will struggle to be without a laptop.

Since the day before yesterday, I have been having a problem where my mouse double-clicks when I single-click. This happens sometimes when I open a program (I ended up opening a Firefox window with a session restore that I wanted as well as a second blank window. I didn't minimize the session restore one, so when I clicked the X on the blank window it closed both and I lost the session restore links since it closed both windows). When I right click to open a link in another tab, it sometimes opens the site in two tabs. When I click on the google window or the address window, all of the text is highlighted for replacement as if I clicked on the text twice.

I've only noticed this in XP, although I have only done a little work in Word over the last couple days.

I've looked in google and found a couple links that say it is a hardware related program (the mouse is a Logitech MX110 and I can't find it listed at their site for a driver). That is possible, but it has been very sudden AND it seemed to start after XP's latest auto-update (I really should update my OS to one of the professional ones because I've been complaining for years about XP Home's auto-update and reboot).

Is it possible that the latest XP update could have done something to the mouse driver? I should add that I think I'm still using the old Intelipoint driver with the Logitech mouse because I heard that the Logitech drivers were buggy.

Should I try updating the Intellip... Read more

A:mouse double-clicking when I single-click (left and right clicking)

It is likely a problem with the mouse itself. I have experienced the same issue and there are numerous reports of this problem ... and I include a link to one of them for your interest and amusement:

The problematic behaviour may come and go: In my own case, my problematic Logitech mouse has been behaving itself recently. I have not been able to find any reason for the variation in its behaviour from time to time. When it plays up, I simply resort to using another mouse for awhile.

Quick question - will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Layout looks similar; albeit a different colour.

A:Will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

I think you cannot use the same keyboard because the Portege S100 supports the an-easy-to-use 84-key (US) or 85-key (UK) keyboard and the Portege M100 supports the an-easy-to-use 85/86-key keyboard.
Furthermore the connector of the S100 supports the CN3230 keyboard interface 34 pin connector and the M100 supports the PJ3230 keyboard 34pin connector.

So possibly this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards released for the each notebook model.

Wasn't sure where to post this. I just got a new, my first, Windows 8 laptop, a Dell Inspiron 7348. The trackpad is driving me crazy, the left click keeps performing as a right click any time I left click while simultaneously retaining light pressure on the pad. I've tried disabling all the taps etc. and The buttons aren't switched around. The left is the left the right is the right, except the left is sometimes the right when I click while having fingers on the nav pad. I've also installed the windows updates and the driver says it's up to date.
Any help much appreciated.

Did you install the touchpad drivers from HP? If so, you may have to play around with some settings for it in control panel. If yo did the upgrade isntall its supposed to keep all your drivers, but sometimes it doesn't retain all of them.

Then it just keeps rebooting, repeating the same error message, rebooting, on and on.
F8 does not work. I've tried tapping it throughout the restart process, and I also held it down through an entire restart process.
It tells me to research "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO" online to learn more about this error. I've found youtube vids about it, but none of them have the same problem I'm dealing with, and most tell you to click F8, which I cannot do.

I have the same problem. I press the UP ARROW key once the laptop completes booting. This solved the down key lock problem. I started hearing the beep sounds when I upgraded to windows 10. When I went back to windows 7 the beeping stopped during boot up but the down key problem exists. I am thinking of downgrading to XP to see if the noise problem and the keyboard works. I hope its not due to my ram upgrade.

A:Warm upper left corner of the Portege

> My new protege has heating issue. upper left corner(power button area) is heating up pretty bad and doesn't cool down easy. Is this common for everyone, or is there anyway that i can reduce the heat?

I guess this is your first ?small? notebook which supports such big CPU/GPU performance. You will notice this on all small (~13?) notebooks. Why? Because the cooling modules are placed on the left and the whole warm air flows from this direction.
I?ve got U400 series. It?s 13? unit and the left area is warm too because of the cooling modules.

Furthermore the unit supports an overheating protection which means that the notebook would shut down automatically if the temperature is too high.
Does the notebook shut down automatically? No?
Well, in such case the temperature is ok and not too high.

Of course you can change the Win 7 power management settings in order to decrease the CPU and GPU performance which would lead to lower heat dissipation. This keep the temperature at lower level.

The left mouse button has suddenly stopped working on my touchpad. I tried to restart including taking the battery out but this didn't help.

I tried to uninstall the driver (called Synaptics Ps/2 touchpad port on my control panel). It then asked me if I wanted to uninstall the software. I clicked yes.

After this, the driver now changed to being called just PS/2 touchpad port but there is still an option to uninstall available.

I tried to uninstall again but nothing happens. I tired to download new driver software for Toshiba touchpad from the website, but it is failing to download.

I am able to use an external mouse normally but would really like to get my touchpad working normally again.

Can someone please advise on what might be causing this problem and how to fix it?

I've got a z20t-B-107. Lovely machine, upgraded to win 10, all working fine - I had to download a new Wacom driver to get the 'left-click' to work with the pen.

I'm using it in tablet mode to digitise some data points on a map, and to sketch with the pen. However, when I rest my hand on the screen it 'activates' the touch screen and makes things go crazy. I really need to be able to temporarily switch off the touch digitiser and have only the Wacom digitiser running, and if I can toggle it on/off somehow that would be useful. Otherwise i need to use the pen in a very unnatural position to avoid touching the screen with my hand.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note which uses the Wacom type digitiser - it doesn't seem to suffer from this, as soon as it detects the pen near the screen it appear to switch off the touch part.

I would be grateful for any help - I've tried search engines but they only seem to give results about touch pads, and that's completely different...

Many thanks in advance

A:Portege Z20t - can I turn touch screen OFF?

I use a Z20t too (but with Win8.1) and have the same problem. I have decided to switch off the touch complete. It is not a good solution, but a good working with OneNote is only with switching off the touch functionality possible.
Maybe this is a possible solution for you.
In Win8.1 I switched off the driver in the device manager.

I found the following steps here:

1. Right-click and select "All Apps" at the lower right corner, then select Control Panel
2. Select Hardware and Sound
3. Select Device Manager
4. Select Human Interface Devices
5. From the list, look for the driver for the touch screen. This can be tricky since on my tablet they are all listed as "USB Input Device" and there are 3 of them. I found it by disabling and re-enabling one at a time until the touch screen stopped responding. You can also identify the touch screen by checking the Properties | Details and get the "Hardware Ids" then do a search online to see what the device is. In my case, the touch screen has the ID USB/VID_0EEF&PID_7302.
6. Once you know which is the touch screen, disable the driver and the touch screen should no longer work
Enable this device to make the touch screen work again.

I am using my Portege M500 more than 10 hours every day for writing and reading.

What bothers me from time to time is an electric shock I get when my left wrist touches the left front corner.

Would you give me an advise how to fix it?

Thank you so much!!

A:Portege M500 - electric shock on the left front corner

I don?t know what could cause this issue but I would strongly recommend contacting the ASP in your country.
I mean something like that should not happen and I think the ASP technician should check the hardware?

Maybe such small electric shocks are related to the static electricity charge... who knows ?:|

Anyway, you should get in contact with your local service partner in order to clarify this issue!!

Hi, a have what seems to be quite a rare computer, that is, I can't find out much about it at all. I don't know how to open the BIOS; I've what seems to be every key.

I presume they don?t know what they are talking about.

As far as I know this Toshiba notebook is almost 15 years old and this old notebook was not delivered with touch screen. Now it is modified and has nothing to do with original state.
Toshiba doesn?t support such modification and such driver doesn?t exist.

To check this you can contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country and ask for help.

Hey guys, I've gotta wireless mouse that does not left-click. Just doesn't left-click. I can spam the left-click and it does probably 1/20 clicks. I'm pretty sure it's not the physical left-click on the mouse, it is probably something else getting it's signal. The room It's in has a bunch of wireless devices that could be interfering. 1. Router (I set it to channel 7) 2. Phone (Don't know channel) 3. TV Remote (...) 4. Xbox 360 wireless controller(s) 5. Wii 6. Wii remote and that's all the wireless devices in this room. It happens when the Xbox 360 and the Wii is off, It happened before so I changed the channel of my router from 1 to 7, I'm not sure if a TV remote can interfere, and it possibly could be the phone because I had a hard time getting my wi-fi connection off my Wii. (When the router and the Wii are in the same room.)

My mouse is a GE Wireless Optical Mouse 97990 Rev 4.

I have also replaced the batteries, and re-linked the mouse. (The obvious.)

No matter what game it is, this seems to be happening with every game I play, even when I click the games on my steam library it seems to do something like makes it unresponsive. I tested by constantly left clicking inside a game and it would be unresponsive and the icon of the game on my bar seems to keep resetting like when you click inside the game or just press some button the little icon goes to the left repeatedly as if it's being reset every click. It's hard to explain but it's been troubling me for awhile. When I left click in a game it sometimes shows whats behind that program and idk if this will help, when I left click in game it opens up the menu of that game. As if i was clicking something else and you know how games pause automatically when you go somewhere else. But not only does left clicking does this, even when I press some buttons on my keyboard it'll do this. I hope that helps.
Edit : I had a virus earlier and I fixed it recently with Malwarbytes so maybe that has something to do with it.
Edit 2 : I feel like it really is just ignoring what's in front and going whats in the back.

Hi,  I've noticed lately that my Spectre has been making a weird clicking sound whenever I run my laptop. The clicking seems to come from the top left corner of the laptop and it stops whenever I put my computer to sleep or shut it down. It is quiet and I can't usually hear it in a noisy room, but if I am in a quiet place it is impossible to unhear it and it is very annoying. Is there a way to fix this without having to replace any parts?

maybe not so much of a virus as some kind of Kiddie script.

it has changed the properties in windows XP so now when i left click on an icon .... the find target info screen pops up.

it still right click like normal ..... in fact, if i right click on it and choose "open" then it's fine.

it left clicks like normally within my browser and within other programs
it only does it on my desktop icons ... if a create a new desktop shortcut/icon it doesn't work correctly. If i create a shortcut anywhere other than my desktop it works like normal.
if i actually go into the folders and click an application .Exe it opens like normal.

any suggestions about how to change it back .... its the only change i found so far.

sorry if i didn't explain it completely enough ... feel free to ask for more information.

I have the exact same issue as member SunRue posted about on Jan 25 2009,
Left Clicking Brings up Properties and Other Strange Phenomena
except that I determined that it not only affected my XP partition but also my WIN 7 partition.
Otherwise, I could just as well have been writing his post myself - identical symptoms.
Rebooting did not help,  since It was extremely difficult to run any executeable file, including Restart.
Also Right clicking sometimes brought up context menu, and sometimes not
Definitely not a mouse problem-tried three, including PS/2 and USB.
The only thing that saved me was restoring a full drive image from day before.
I also noticed that after member SunRue was asked to run MBAM that no one ever got back to him after he posted results, so nothing was learned there.
I would like to ask if anyone else has observed this phenomenon.
Also is there any way to private message member SunRue?
thank you

If only online, can you run this to see if malware could be the cause. It may not be, just checking this first

I cannot left click my trackpad mouse while holding a key. This is a problem that occurs quite frequently in gaming. I am aware that this issue is present due to its need when typing in order to prevent clicking around on the page accidentally while typing, but I cannot find the option to toggle it off.

I am running Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite. The trackpad is a Synaptics ClickPad V0.0 on SMB port. I have entered the control panel and searched under Devices and Printers > Mouse > Device Settings > Settings and here there is no category for this issue. The categories mainly concern multiple finger actions such as zooming or triple finger clicking but under simply Clicking it only has options for multiple finger clicks and under Tapping only involves disabling the pad with the top left corner and dragging icons. I had an issue before where I could not use the mouse at all while pressing a key, but this was resolved by turning off the SmartSense palm sensor. Now the only issue is clicking while pressing a key and this issue is not resolved with any options under the SmartSense category. I do not know where else to look for solutions to this problem. It seems like it should be an easy toggle somewhere but I cannot find it.

If anyone could assist me in solving this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you mean to mark this solved? To be honest I can't offer any advice about the problem. But if you didn't intend to mark it solved, you need to re open it so that people won't just skip past it.

Hi, I've been browsing this forum for hours now and still don't know what's wrong with my laptop.

Some background: My wife and I have a Lenovo Z585 laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate. Recently she accidentally installed some adware/malware name SweetIM. That caused a lot of errors in our browsers. I was able to remove all of it through spybot & avast, but one problem still remains.

Problem: Every time I try to install a program by left clicking, it wouldn't install. If I right click with "Run as administrator", it would work. While this is a short term fix, but I would to know why I can't left click/install like usual. For example, if I try to install spybot, I get the following message:

"Unable to execute in the temporary directory. Setup aborted.
Error 5: Access is denied."

When I try to install common programs like Adobe Flash or Firefox, nothing would happen with a left click.

When I enabled the built-in elevated administrator account, left click to install is no problem in the Administrator account. However, it still doesn't work in the User account. We only have one user account between the two of us, and everything I've checked showed that it is admin.

I've already ran Avast virusscan/hijackthis/spybot and can't find any issues. Any help is appreciated.

Here is possible solution to your install problem. I would keep track of any changes made so I could restore them to "as found" if need be.

I'm running IE8 and Vista Home Premium and for about a couple months I've been having a problem with IE.

About 50% of the time when I click on a link in a webpage, IE just freezes up.

I can still use other programs on my computer but I can't even scroll up or down on the IE page and the new link never opens up.

After about 30-60 seconds, I can scroll up and down on the webpage again but if I try clicking on the link again, IE freezes up again.

What is weird is, when I can use IE again, if I right click on the same link I had trouble with, and then click on "open in new tab", the link opens up in a new tab without any problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, in advance!

Really ready to unistall this driver at this point in time but then i'll be stuck with the unbarable tap2click which i can't disable since i'm defaulted back to Microsoft's mouse drivers. So it turns out my right click works just fine, It's just for some reason Synaptics disables my right click. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi guys, I'm on a Lenovo Thinkpad T530 laptop that's about four months old. I had a key pop off and Lenovo shipped me a new keyboard, so I replaced it myself. Since then, I've had issues where every 20-30 minutes, the left click will start clicking on its own (the key is not stuck, it is not a physical hardware issue).
Obviously, I figured that the problem came from the new keyboard (since I had the computer for three months with no problem before I replaced the keyboard). So I took the keyboard out, cleaned the inside of the computer and the pin connections with some compressed air, checked to make sure there wasn't any visible damage (nothing crushed, bent, or missing as far I can tell) and then put it all back together again. No luck, the problem persists. Just in case it isn't keyboard-related (doubtful) I am running a full system virus scan using MSE as I'm typing this, but I really think that there's something wrong with this keyboard. I uninstalled and reinstalled the PS/2 keyboard drivers and Synaptic touchpad drivers, to no avail. Are there any ways to determine the true cause of this problem and possibly solve it, or should I just call Lenovo and have another keyboard sent my way to try it out?
Thanks in advance

A:Left Click on my keyboard is clicking on its own

by "left click" you mean the keyboard arrows? If it's the mouse/touchpad buttons it's an issue of the touchpad.
Seems like a hardware issue to me as well.

Try running it the keyboard/touchpad disconnected using a USB keyboard/mice, if it has no issue, then it's a hardware problem.

So I haven't had this problem until recently on my laptop, but I suddenly noticed it happening not too long ago and I'm completely clueless. I've scoured the internet and found two people with the same problem, one of which who was never answered (poor guy) and another that was asking, got no help, then suddenly is all "I fixed it I fixed it" and didn't say how... -_- So here is what is happening:

Whenever I play any sort of game on full-screen mode, left-clicking causes the screen to flash momentarily. If I continue to left click in rapid succession, the screen flashes with every click until it apparently freaks out the game so badly that it just crashes altogether. This has happened in every game I've tried since the problem started, including both Amnesia games, League of Legends, Minecraft, and Outlast. Note that I have played all of these same games on this same computer for a long time before and this problem has only recently occurred out of nowhere. So far, I have found two temporary solutions.
-Running Minecraft in windowed mode allowed me to play without the problem occurring. I hate playing MC in that tiny box, though.
-While running Razr game booster, the problem apparently goes away as long as I have my FPS display turned on... I don't have any idea why this works, but even so, I hate playing immersive horror games and the like with a little fps display running. It completely breaks the immersion for me, so this isn't a viable solution.

A:Screen flashing when left clicking in games

Welcome to PCHF.

It would be a shame if all three people with "the same problem" were left hanging.

Update your video driver, even if you have the current version.

If you have a gaming mouse, or other fancy mouse, re-install that driver as well.

Not long after, I came across a problem.. My Mouse Cursor is moving when i left click ?!
It usally moves downward towards right hand corner of the screen ..

I just bought this mouse it's a Razor : Imperator .. Installed drivers and the mouse correctly ! ..
I also believe this was happening with my old mouse, so must be the computer in some way ?

I also noticed it after playing music, from my computer ( YouTube ) that comes out of a HiFi, the HiFi speakers are on the same desk as my mouse and i do play my music loud! Maybe its effecting it in some way ? I'd maybe expect it while im playing music but when the music is off, its all quite, it still does it ?

I did read afew other post's and i saw one about getting HijackThis and posting what the scan shows, i have done this below.

Today, something weird started happening.
Everytime that I left click anywhere on my firefox window, a new tab opens with a "Dummy test" advertisement. This means that when I try to close the tab with another left click, a new tab opens... and this is pretty much an endless process :P

It looks like I can out-speed the tabs. If I close them all fast enough, they stop spawning :O... but this is extremely annoying. They also keep opening until I do something. About 30 tabs opened when I didn't click on anything for like 20sec.

This only affects my left click every few minutes. Once I close all the random tabs, it leaves me in peace for some moments... But it is not website-dependant, because it happened to me on google as well. Clicking on a google link opens that tab instead of counting my click towards the link. Meaning that everything becomes unclickable until I've dealt with those tabs.

I won't give you a link to the virus/whatever page, because I don't want to get people infected by it :P So I took a screenshot... here it is:

Does anyone know what could be the source of this? My antivirus didn't get anything after a full scan (Microsoft security essencials - pro anti-virus I know). I also can't find anything about this on google.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, I just received my new HP Envy 14 today and I'm having some issues with it. In the instructions, it says that two finger scrolling and zoom is a feature on this laptop, but it isn't working a bit for me. Also, very often when i try to left click, nothing comes up. This happens a lot on the desktop when trying to right click multiple files selected. This is my first windows 7 pc. Is this some hidden feature that I'm unaware of? Thanks.

The left side of the screen is the hub for apps and app-switching and all that nonsense, but I can't use the left side of my screen in games. I can't scroll in any RTS using my mouse on the left side and if I click, it switching to the home screen and takes the focus off my screen. In some first person shooters, if I look too far left and click the left mouse button, the same thing happens. I don't mind having the metro UI, but I want it disabled in certain apps. Anyone figure this out?
