I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Spoiler (Highlight to read)IMPORTANT!!IMPORTANT!!Friends from Lenovo,Yesterday I did the update to the new version of Windows 10, called Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or Windows 10, version 1709, and after the update was done I find out that the hotkey driver, that controls the Fn commands on the keyboard of my Lenovo ThinkPad X220, doesn`t work correctly with this new version of Windows 10. Therefore, I would like to know what can I do to fix this issue, so the hotkey commands work properly again in my notebook, or if it is going to be an update of this file (8jvu43ww.exe) that I could install in my notebook to fix this issue. Could you please tell me what can I do to make the Fn commands work properly with the new update of Windows 10 (Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) or if it is going to be an update of the hotkeys that is compatible with the new version of Windows 10?I look forward to hear your comments, and I hope you already have an idea, an answer to solve this issue. Yours truly,Cristián Palau

I have been looking for a way to contact Lenovo via email about my computer issues. I had a not too old (Apr 2014) Lenovo Desktop Aio B550. When I bought it, it had Windows 8, and had an update to 8.1 right away. Then there was an update to Windows 10, I did that too. there was no major issues. I barely used the computer, mainly for email, browsing, etc, no gamming. In 2016 there was another update for Windows 10, but this one would get stuck at 32%, some posts here at the time said to leave it overnight, then saw posts that said to unplug all devices, do this and do that, I did and it still froze at 32% every time. after 6 months of this I was getting tired, I did not want this update at all, and found out this is not an update it is a whole new operating system. I could not shut off my computer without it forcing me to do an update, I wondered if this was a small update or the big update. I contacted Microsoft for help in March 2017. I had many different answers and explanations from them. First MS remote access my computer and downloaded the Media Creation Tool. I told them that this computer is not that old and has no programs downloaded, just what came with the computer new. MS did the update and it had to do a reboot so MS disconnected and the reboot went on and then it came back with an error: OxC1900101-Ox30018 the installation failed in the first_BOOT phase w/ an error during syprep operation. I contacted MS again via chat and remote access. I'm very much a novice when it comes for tech stuff, so if I posted this in the wrong place/irritate people with my cluelessness, sorry.

This issue started when I was restarting my Lenovo Y50-70 laptop after a Windows 8.1 update about 2 weeks ago. I'm only getting a black screen after the Lenovo logo. Initially, there's no cursor, but it shows up after 5-6 hours. Otherwise, it's still a black screen. Ctrl-Alt-Del (or any other key combos) doesn't work. The only response I get at this stage is Sticky Keys.

I could get into Advanced Recovery Options using Shift-F8 once, and I tried to restore to an earlier point (I installed two new programs before the update). But the restore failed; I don't remember the exact error message, but it mentioned something about something being corrupt, and running chkdsk. That was the last time I was able to access the menu, and since then F5/F8 combos don't work. I tried Safe Mode before the restore, but it didn't do anything different either. The only thing I can do now is access the BIOS.

Again, I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff, so I'm not sure if there's anything from the BIOS I can try, or whether this is a hardware issue (because of the corrupt/chkdsk thing) or a software one. I don't have any installation media/recovery drives at hand, and I won't really have access to a computer where I can make one until August (I'm not at home). Any help is much appreciated though.

Hi, I recently bought the Lenovo g50 (80e501g3us) laptop that came loaded with Windows 8.1. I decided to downgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) because the laptop came loaded with spyware such as Superfish and I prefer Windows 7. I first created a system image of the computer for safety and then i rebooted with the Windows 7 CD. I had to delete all of the partitions in order to install Windows 7. The installation was a success and I started updating all of the drivers for my model based on the Windows 7 64 bit OS that I got from Lenovo's website. All drivers except 2 worked which said it required an update. I then flashed my BIOS with the version that I downloaded from Lenovo's website thinking that this might solve my problems. After the BIOS was flashed I received an error that this was the wrong BIOS.Now I get the following errors: Default boot device missing or boot failedInsert recovery media and hit any keyThen select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media This then present me to the boot option menu with the following option only listed:efi pxe network I have inserted the DVD that I used to install Windows 7, however, it is not being recognized or loading since the only option is efi pxe network. Reset the BIOS to default before you do anything else.

Unplug AC adapter (remove from notebook).
Remove main battery
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (power drain)
Replace main battery
Replace AC adapter (plug into wall then notebook)

This should reset the BIOS to factory defaults, but you should enter the BIOS to make sure your boot order has been changed to indicate your choice of booting (DVD, HDD).  I would also turn off network boot (disable) as you should not need that option for Windows 7, 8 or 10 to work correctly.

Good luck.

After updating to Windows 8.1, my PC is unable to restart with the following message displayed:

1) Preparing automatic repair
2) Diagnosing your PC
3) Your PC did not start correctly

Here I am given 2 options:
a) Restart
b) Advanced Options.

Option (a) will keep me in the same loop. I have tried most of the options in (b) but nothing works out. The only extra clue I got is when I go to Startup Settings and select option 9)" Disable automatic restart after failure" from which an additional message was displayed:

error: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

I did not make any backup beforehand and now I'm hoping to restore to my previous setting without losing any files/data. Or it would be even better I could solve the problem without any restoration.

Please help. I cannot access to the Windows start-up anymore, not even in Safe Mode.

The best way if you can gain access to another computer is to get a ISO copy of Windows 8, put it to the USB with Microsoft Store

Then use the repair tool built into Windows 8.

Before attempting another upgrade which should not be a problem since your computer is so new remember to:

1) Check and Install latest Windows Updates.

2) Check for Firmware updates

3) No external devices plugged in during the install

4) Consider doing a clean boot.

When I look up your system on the support page I see quite a few updates, drivers and such that support windows 8.1 and 10.  If you are looking for a BIOS update or patch, those are usually OS neutral and are applied with either a BIOS utility or patcher that works in DOS mode and some can use a windows based utility.

Are you trying to use a BIOS update to fix an issue or just get the "latest and greatest" for your computer?  Mostly I would not recommend updating your BIOS unless it is absolutely neccessary to fix a troublesome issue or problem with hardware.

I was installing the Windows 10 Creator Update (see reddit.com/r/windows) using the official ISO file as well as the Media Creating Tool downloaded from Microsoft website, but then it failed with error code 0xC1900101-0x20017 with a message :"The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation". The update stuck at the booting splash screen, no hard disk activity, nothing moves. Tried a few times and tried different ways to install it, but nothing worked. I have enough space to install the update and the machine is having Ubuntu 16.04 as well as a recovery software on the system alongside Windows 10. No idea what is wrong. I was suspect BIOS or drivers for this issue. Does anyone encounter this problem?

My W10 64bit Dell desktop installed KB3194798 on 10/12/2016 using Windows Update (WU) so now it is 1607 1493.321.
Today I tried WU to update my Lenovo G505 W10 laptop and I think it might have been KB3194798 that has killed my laptop, but I cannot even get the laptop to go past the black screen to the Lenovo display when trying to boot.
Here's the history...
Today I pushed the power button to turn it on and found that my wife had left it on and over the many hours it had gone into (I assume) a powersaving mode that made me think it needed to boot.
The screen showed that WU was up and some KB was at 94%. I left it alone and a few minutes later it told me the install was ready to go. So I clicked to let it WU do the install. The install failed saying some files were missing but it let me click on "retry".
I think it failed a 2nd time. The 3rd time it appeared to be installing OK, and I went to work for a few hours. On my return it showed that the laptop required a restart to complete the WU installs - that's pretty normal after letting WU do an install of a "cumulative", I think. So I clicked to restart and walked away. When I returned hours later, the laptop was still displaying the Lenovo boot-time logo and the spinner was spinning. I powered down the laptop by holding down the power button. Now the laptop will not even display the Lenovo boot-time logo. The little power LED is lit. The laptop is on wall power - not battery, btw.

Hello folks,  I seem to be having some issue with installing Windows 10. I found the Lenovo Upgrade Checklist and followed the steps point for point. (https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht104203) After downloading the update, it requested a restart and booted up into the update screen. The update got to around 20% and restarted as noted on the update screen.  Once again I'm presented with the Lenovo boot screen but this time it doesn't seem to be progressing, nothing has changed for the last 50 minutes and counting. What was other people's experience through the upgrade? Should I be prepared for a longer wait or is this abnormal to the process? Thanks for taking the time to read!

I having a problem reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows 10 on a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 with failed stock 128 GB HD (about 3 years old). System Memory is 4096 MB, Intel i5, CPU 1.60GHz. I ordered a Crucial MX500 500GB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD - CT500MX500SSD1(Z) with a HDD SSD Connector Cable (DC02C004Q00). This presented a mounting issue so I removed the chassis and modified it to mount the new Crucial 2.5 inch SSD. Everything secure, I booted up new configuration, set BIOS Boot to Legacy Support and checked that SATA HDD was recognized.  Next, I created a USB recovery drive for Windows 10 using my Surface Pro 4. This took about 1.5 hrs on a 32 GB SanDisk USB. Insert USB into Yoga and rebooted. Selected US keyboard>Troubleshoot>Recover from a drive>Just remove my files to Reset the PC (about an hr +/-).  About 60% into the reinstalation of OS, I receive the error "There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made". I then tried Start Up Repair but it "couldn't repar" the PC.   Any ideas how to proceed? Many thanks!

Is there any solution to constant system failure to a level where the blue screen turns up and laptop can't be even turned on, after every system update?

I've checked the drivers and everything, but since the big update pack somewhere in March every update ends up in system failure. And the restore points before the updates are useless, because system doesn't recognize them.

After the second time this has happened and I've lost all the files that has not been backed up on hard drive I really start to think is there something wrong to Lenovo and Windows 7 combination?

I almost start to regret that I have legal version with update option.

I've considered using the Novo button then everything will be back to square one. Is there any solution as to how to reduce the disk usage? It would take too long for me to re install everything.

Good day and welcome to the community. It would be useful for other members if you'd provide more information (steps you've tried, prior state of the machine, any error messages, etc), otherwise it will be difficult for the community to assist you.Regards.

The recent Windows Anniversary Update has produced several major issues with my 2 year old B750 AIO.  First the audio became very scratchy.  That was fixed by going to the RealTek site and getting drivers for this update.  Issues remaining seem to involve things on my task bar:  There is a message symbol showing, but it will not open to see what it is.  At the speaker volume symbol, I can't raise or lower the volume.  Cortana will not respond to voice or typing in the box on the task bar.  I also tried to open the Lenovo support screen, but it will not open.  There could be many other items not working, that I have not discovered yet. How should I go about getting these things working again?
