A second install of windows 7 - but lots of drivers needed!

Q: A second install of windows 7 - but lots of drivers needed!

Hi All,
I've run out of space on an old small SSD, and have decided a clean start is probably the best way to go in setting up Windows 7 64 bit on my shiny new bigger SSD.

I plugged in the new drive, successfully installed Windows 7, and can boot to it. Great start!

Thing is though, it's installed with a bunch of generic drivers for things like the display, (which came up in 800x600! No option for the HD I know it is capable of...), and in the case of the network card, nothing at all. Which is making it rather difficult to get the right drivers, as I can't get online from the new install!

I'm sure there are other drivers too, for things like the sound card for example.

Is there a relatively easy way to get drivers for all my hardware in? I can still get at the drives with the old install on, if that helps. And I must admit I'm a bit surprised the network connection is not working as there's nothing fancy about the network card I am aware of.

At the most basic, advice on the best way to get online fast would be a big help, but if there is a good way to get the other drivers fast, that would be seriously useful!

Thanks in advance,
Nick

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

OK, I've had to go ahead and try to get this computer working.

From the drivers mentioned above I obtained from the Acer website, I have done the following:-

- Attempted install of the Acer VGA driver. This is also described as a 'catalyst display driver'. Installation successful. However, on rebooting machine, nothing has changed graphically - looking in Device Manager, there is no entry for 'Display Adapters', and running DXDIAG says in Display/Device that there is none available. BUT... I don't quite understand if my ATI Radeon X1250 would register as an 'external device/graphics adapter', since I believe it is an 'integrated graphics card'?

- Attempted install of the Acer Realtek HD sound driver. Success - the computer now has sound, so that is at least one thing out of the way

What I am still in the dark about, is the state of the computer's graphics - I do not know if they are running 'correctly' or if another driver needs to be installed to unlock the X1250 [or is it now running, but it doesn't show up in Device Manager because of its 'integrated' status'?].

Tomorrow I will be able to hook it up to the web, providing there are no problems installing the modem driver! Once on the web I guess I can surf and see how the graphics fare compared with when it used to run on Vista.

Would still like some clarification on the motherboard and BIOS. Is it likely I need to install a driver for my motherbo... Read more

I'm having some issue with my computer, and to solve that I'm trying to install Windows 7 again. I've yet NOT managed to do that ever on this computer, which is about 1 year old. There's no multiboot or whatever, BUT, there is a RAID controller active, and RAID is actually enabled. Actually, now that I threw away all content, I can easily switch RAID to non-RAID, but that doesn't seem to help THIS problem:

I have a LEGAL copy of Windows7, which SHOULD be the Windows I had running. I never installed Windows initially since the shop did that for me.

OK, when I try to install Windows, at some point it says the device drivers are not present, and thus Windows cannot install. It keeps looping into the same error, if I boot from DVD.

I DID use my DVD drive on Windows when I was able to use my computer, I never had any issue with that. I don't understand what driver I need, when I am installing from DVD.

Either he totally cannot read the DVD, but how do I end up in Windows screen then ? Obviously, Windows want to start installation, but then fails over something. Maybe the disk is not valid (it is new though).

Any advice here ?

I disabled RAID for the moment, but that does not help anything. Before the re-installation, this setup (BIOS Intel Raid storage) did report an issue with 1 of both disks, but that error is gone now.

It's not clear if Windows is an issue here, but a clean system reacting this way, obviously something is wrong.

SATA setting have been changed from RAID to ...?

Boot from win7 install DVD and do shift+f10 . See Command Prompt at Startup

In command prompt do:

Code:
diskpart
list disk
exit
Do you see both disks (that were RAID)? Look at the disk size , so you know what is what. Assume it's disk 7 and 8 (replace with actual disk numbers!)

Code:
diskpart
select disk 7
clean
select disk 8
clean
exit
What happens?

Hello there, I recently did a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo G50-45 and I'm wondering which drivers I need to install and how I can access them? When viewing my Device Manager, the 4 yellow exclamation errors I'm seeing are for the following:1. Network Controller2. PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller3. Unknown device4. USB2.0-CRW Since it was a clean install, I'm wondering if there are drivers I may need in addition to the ones shown in the Device Manager. For example, when I push the brightening/dimming function on the keyboard, nothing happens. The volume function works, but I have no tried playing music or listening to anything to test it.  I tried searching for the drivers on the Lenovo site, but may have the incorrect Serial number, as no results come up. I purchased the laptop from a previous user, so they may have attached the incorrect Serial number.  Any help would be appreciated so I can set up my laptop.  Thank you!Keith

I've searched HP's support site, but I don't see any drivers for any OS available for my model, the Pavilion g6-1d21dx. I did a clean install of Windows 10, but the Wi-Fi button doesn't work. Apparently there is a driver called HP Wireless Button Driver that I need to install. When I do a Google search for it, there is a link to an HP download page, but the link appears to be dead. Is HP not allowing us to download drivers anymore? This is frustrating, because getting drivers should be simple and easy. Can someone please tell me where I can get this and any other drivers I might need after doing a clean install of Windows 10? Thank you.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 531 at a garage sale. It came with a version of Vista that was cluttered up, full of viruses and in general full of problems. I don't like Vista anyway (I generally run Kubuntu or Mint for most of my computing), and I have a generic MS Windows XP sp2 install pack laying around. After installing XP, I loaded my linux OS's as usual, with no problems. The problem is with the XP install. It appears that Dell, in it's wisdom, made the Inspiron 531 specifically for Vista and the standard drivers available on Dell's site don't function well with XP (can't connect with the Web, graphics "roll-over" with the bottom showing at the top of the screen, and generally don't work well with the onboard graphics card 'Nvidia GeForce 6150'). Does anyone know a scource for drivers that will 'work-around' this issue? I know that the order the drivers are installed is important, so I wiped the drive and made a fresh install of Windows with no changes. The system setup is: Dell Inspiron 531 with AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ running at 2.0 Ghz with 4Gbs memory. I am set up for triple boot on two HDDs running Kubuntu 12.10 and Linux Mint Maya on one 260gb Hd and Windows XP Home edition Sp2 on a 40Gb Hd. I've searched this site and seen mention of a couple of users with XP running on this model, but no mention of the preferred drivers. Dell has been no help, as this is a discontinued model. After an entire day of trying to fix my laptop and get it to Reset to Factory Image I have found that the Setup.exe file to install Win7 is on my hard drive (X:Boot). Only problem is I get this error when I try to install it.

A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a ddriver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Does anyone know what drivers I need to install the OS? I have seen threads about changing the AHCI or something. I am new at this stuff and the only options in my BIOS regarding the AHCI is to change my SATA controller from AHCI to Compatibility. Both options do not solve my problem. I am booting from the DVD drive which has a Windows 7 32-bit Recovery Disc in it. Any help? Thanks

Hey guys,

I've recently inherited a Dell Inspiron (N7110) laptop with Windows 7 Home installed (now Windows 10 after Microsoft decided to trick me into installing its OS) that I would like to revert back to Windows 7 Pro. To do this, I plan on doing a clean install with an OEM Windows 7 Pro disk that I purchased from Dell. I've delt with OEM disks before -- on a Windows XP desktop, for instance -- but never where I've had to physically add the drivers myself, so that's why I'm here. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium from scratch on a 2010(2009?) HP p6500z desktop (64-bit) for a friend who says the computer might have a virus. I've already did this before, but never for somebody else, only for myself, so I want to make sure I have all the right information before proceeding.

If I'm correct, one is supposed to install drivers in the following order:
1) Install the OS
2) Install Service Pack 1(if not included in install disc)
3) Install chipset/motherboard driver
4) Install sound
5) Install network interface card or nic
6) Install video driver
7) Install all Windows updates
Feel free to correct the order if you think I'm wrong.

The processor is an AMD Sempron 140 Processor 2.70 GHz.

The only thing is I can't find the chipset/motherboard driver listed on HP's website:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers...3/model/4242485#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930O2

Also keep in mind that this was a CTO deskop, which stands for configure to order, where you can choose the networking, sound, etc..., so I'm not sure which drivers to install.

Would anybody be so kind as to provide a list of links of drivers, in the order they need to be installed?

Everything was fine. I bought Battlefield 3, Premium online. It seems to have installed okay, but throws up a warning box when I try to start it up that my video drivers need to be updated from Ver. 11.5 to 11.7 or later. (Radeon HD6870)

I went to AMD and downloaded their 'automatic detector' for needed driver updates. This did nothing that I could tell. I then downloaded the current release of the Catalyst Software Suite and now I can't do anything with opening the Control Center or updating drivers.

Below is my inquiry to them and their response. I don't pretend to be a tech guy, so the water is getting really deep. I don't want things to go from bad to worse or worst. Is it safe for me to follow their instructions? Are there any steps where I could blow something up? I really don't know how to do this stuff. Except for not being able to use Battlefield 3, and not being able to get into the Control Center, the computer is otherwise functioning normally. (Dell Studio XPS 9100)

Hi D_Blackwell

The information from AMD is mostly straightforward and not likely to worsen your situation, with one possible exception ! Item 5 :-"Latest BIOS and Chipset". This is correct advice, but you might want to get help from someone with more experience than yourself.

The nice thing is you say your computer is a Dell. Somewhere on the casing you will find a bar-code - copy the number, it is really useful ! I will come back to it.

The first thing I would do is download and install a small utility called 'Speccy' ( www.piriform.com/speccy ). If you run it, it will tell you what BIOS and chipset versions you have both for your motherboard and your graphics card. Make a note of these, and now we come back to that Dell number.

If you go onto the Dell web-site and go to support, you will find a space to enter that number which will take you directly to the page for your computer. Here they list, among other things, the up to date driver set for your computer and you can check these against the versions 'Speccy' says you have installed. If the numbers from 'Speccy' match the version numbers on the Dell site, your BIOS and chipset are up to date, no further action necessary. If they don't, you have the option to update them.

Start by downloading the updated drivers and save them into some convenient folder, preferably by themselves - they are easier to find. Then turn your computer off.

Re-boot, and at the first start-up s... Read more

How do I get the drivers piecemeal, put them on my external hard drive, and then install them on my offline Dell Laptop?

Greetings again!!! A client of mine (I remodeled her house) gave me a great Multi Function Center- Fax, printer, copier, scanner- Brother- MFC 7150C to be specific. She lost the install disc. I went to Brother.com and found the model number and the drivers however it says that I have to first install Visioneer Paper Port first from the CD-ROM disc. Now, isn't that convienent! I did a search for that it is associated with lots of programs and machines. I downloaded one, that was associated with "DocuShare". Kind of at a loss. Does anyone know if this a free download I can get? And what is it anyway?

Thanks ahead.

This laptop was designed for Win 10. It had 8.1 first, but they knew it was going to have 10. 8.1 and 10 are almost identical. It has devices connected in new ways.Acer and Microsoft are not going to make Windows 7 drivers for it so, you are going to have to Google windows 7 drivers and try them until you find ones that work, or not.I would put Windows 8.1 on it and install Start 8 and after a while I would forget I wasn't using Windows 7.

I have a ProBook 450 G2 which seems to have a hard drive that's going bad. I replaced the HD with an SSD and was going to upgrade the OS to Win 10. But near the beginning of the installation process I got a dialog box that said "A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now." I downloaded the SATA driver, however, the install program didn't like it. I also tried the chipset driver and the USB driver, but it didn't want those drivers either. Does anyone know what drivers it's looking for? Thanks. David

First - thanks in advance for the help!

I (very very stupidly) tried to download the new southpark this evening, and before I knew it I was told I didn't have the right codec and now I have worm/trojan/virus/something.

The symptoms are thus:
Windows update will redirect me to google, and the search results that come up are garbage adware
Malwarebytes will istall if I rename the file, but won't execute once installed

I have also tried to install spybot search and destroy, but can't even get through the installation before I get an error and have to abort.

please help! and thanks!

I have an Hp Pavilion 754n and Windows XP. I have given up on Explorer and have been happier with Firefox because I am not getting as many pop-ups. Lately, I have been getting lots of programs just showing up on my desktop like AdStopper, etc. I have Ad-Aware and SpyBot and Norton Antivirus, which I run often enough. My husband knows more about this than I do, but he is not around to fix a lot of it and he has also reached the limit of his technical knowledge. I am now getting error messages such as,- Rudll- Error loading E6F1873B.DLL The specified module could not be found, Rundll- Error loading DOCEOC16B1 The specified module could not be found. Then, I get a message form Virtual Bouncer, which I don't know, and it says ther's a parasite on my computer. I have to click close about five times "cause that message kepps popping up! I am ready to have the hard drive wiped clean for the second time- the first time HP did it for me. The CPU usage keeps going up to 100% and I have no programs running. O.K. Does any one know where I should begin? I am so glad to have somewhere to turn and any help you can offer would be great. Thanks!

A:Help needed/ lots of problems

First, go to http://forums.techguy.org/t110854.html and run the online scanning from Housecall. Since you already have Ad-aware, go here http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml and have this add-on VX2 Cleaner install. Make sure you perform the webupdate before you do the scanning from Ad-Aware.

If you still don't have the probelm, probably you need to install HijackThis and paste the log over here and hope someone can analyze the result for you.

You can download this program from here http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/#Top. A detail guideline can be found on this website too.

Remember, DO NOT fix anything yet before you receive any advise on what should be removed.

Again, someone here will analyze the results for you.

Hi,
I need Windows 7 x64 drivers for my Satellite L300 11M. The product page lists 126 drivers for Win XP and only 23 drivers for Windows 7 64bit. Some important drivers like touchpad and storage management are not available in the product drivers list. Maybe they are universal but I don't know where to get them from.
I need touchpad, storage management, Ethernet, Controls and everything else which was available for XP, but can't be found for Win 7.
Where should I look for these drivers or could anyone send me links for all windows 7 drivers for this model, please.

HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

A:monitor drivers unable to install on fresh windows 2000 install

Are you really referring to the monitor drivers or the Dispay Adapter drivers? The symptoms you describe sound like the latter issue.

Monitor drivers are no big deal to install, and even if you don't, Windows should use compatible plug and play drivers. Still it's a good idea to install them -- but you get them from the Monitor vendor site. You get the Display Adapter drivers from the Display Adaptor vendor's site.

What Display Adapter model do you have? And are they properly installed?

To install a Monitor driver, you download and unzip the .inf file from the Vendor. Then you select "update driver" and browse to the location of the file you unzipped. Once installed your Monitor should be recognized by model number.

Hello Bleepers! You have helped me in the past and I am back. This time, this is my mom's computer and she didn't have a firewall (until now) and so this thing was infected beyond anything I have seen!I will be posting the log below, but first let me tell you a few things. I did follow the preparation instructions as best as I could, however, there were certain things I could not do.Ad-Aware:I kept running Ad-Aware and rebooting and it kept finding 50+ new critical items every time. I then disconnected the internet access to the computer and ran it. This way I got it down to 2 entries it said it couldn't removed and it couldn't remove them even after restarting.Spybot:A similar thing happened with Spybot, except I connected to the internet only to download the software and updates and disconnected to do the scan and fixes. Spybot also said it couldn't fix certain items, EVEN AFTER doing it during rebooting.I then ran HouseCall, Bit Defender and Avert Stinger (Panda was taking too long and I wasn't sure if it was stalled). Then, I installed ZoneAlarm and Finally ran HijackThis.Hopefully you can help me get this thing cleaned up and it top shape soon! My main computer just died, so I figured I'd take my old computer, which was never hooked up to the internet (in order to always keep it clean as a baby's rear end), and use it to run either diagnostics and/or data recovery software on my malfunctioning C drive from my dead computer.

The old computer had XP pro sp2 on it, with a P4 3.4 processor, and an Intel board. The first obstacle, was getting it online. Simply plugging in the networking cable did nothing. After endless amounts of reading, it seems that because they computer was never meant to be online, the networking (or "LAN"?) drivers were never installed. After many tries and much confusion, I finally had someone find them online for me, put the drivers on a thumbdrive, and after a few attempts I was able to get this old girl connected. But I must say, for those who don't really know what they are doing very well, the procedure for setting up the network connections was anything but easy. The automated system for doing it failed every time. No reason way. So I finally managed to do it manually, somehow. To be honest, I don't even remember now. When you attempt to do something for 12 hours in a row, trying every possible solution, it's easy to forget specifics.

The automated system for doing it failed every time. No reason way. So I finally managed to do it manually, somehow. To be honest, I don't even remember now. When you attempt to do something for 12 hours in a row, trying every possible solution, it's easy to forget specifics.

Anyway, I got hooked into the internet. The next step was upgrading to SP 3, which I had already p... Read more

A:Hi! Windows XP boot-up problem after sp3 install and network drivers install

After tapping F8 is there a selection called Disable Autorestart on System Failure? Select it and the next time you boot the BSOD will stay on the screen.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite C50 loaded with windows 8 but want to revert to windows 7.

I have downloaded the necessary drivers and have mounted the .exe files onto a USB pen for installation.

Before I proceed to wipe windows 8 I'd like to know - if I install 7, will my trackpad stop functioning?

If so, how do I install the relevant drivers from the USB pen?

Thanks, John

99.9% sure that W7 will identify the trackpad and install it. You just run the exe's using file explorer or Start >Run then browse. You may decide to leave the laptop as the W7 install left it but you should check Device Manager to ensure there are no unrecognised devices

Dear all, I am currently planning on purchasing the Tecra R840-A222 (PT42KV) here in Saudi Arabia and I need to know if this model has Windows XP drivers for it. On the driver downloads page, I can see two short-model numbers for this R840-A222. They are PT42KV and PT42KE.

The PT42KV has only about five XP drivers while the PT42KE has practically all the drivers for WinXP.
Can someone please tell me if the XP drivers for the PT42KE will also apply to the PT42KV?

I am mostly concerned about the basic drivers which consists of the graphics, chipset, audio, ethernet, and others for the hardware of this model. I will be using this unit mainly for engineering software (PLC programming, Vehicle diagnostics, and others that need the XP platform).

As far as I know the XP drivers for Tecra R840 PT42KE should work on Tecra R840 PT42KV too.

Im assuming you went to support.dell.com and checked. You can use their vista drivers for 32 bit by installing them in compatibiliy mode.

Let us know if that doesn't work
