I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,

I'd like to sell my laptop but i first want to restore the laptop to erase all my stuff.

My laptop is a HP pavilion dv7 2040eb, originaly bought with Vista on it together with a code which gave me the opportunity to upgrade to Windows7 with a reduction in price. So i have W7 running at this moment.

When I open up the 'Recovery Manager' of HP it tells me that it's meant for Windows Vista and that there is a slight chance that certain apps and drivers won't work no more... (so i didn't go on with the recovery)

Also I made a set of Recovery Disks whit the 'Recovery Manager' while i was running Windows7. But now i don't know if my computer burned Windows7 on the disks or Vista :s

I'm just worried because the factory setting was Vista, but i replaced it with Windows7 and I'm not smart enough to see which software i burned on the disk

I realy want to put W7 back on it because it's much better than Vista...

Hope you guys can help me!!
Greetings and thanks in advance!

You should be able to find the drivers at the HP site.
Look for drivers and downloads section.
Enter the service tag number and it should take you to the right place.
Be sure to choose W7 as the operating system.

Hi: You need these drivers... ethernet controller: This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver that enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp55083.exe pci device: This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from or write to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellular phones. File name: sp55085.exe smbus controller: I have zipped up and attached the driver you need for that below. Download and unzip the file to its folder.  Do not do anything with the files in the folder. Go to the device manager, and click on the smbus controller needing drivers. Click on the driver tab, click on update driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder you unzipped. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 14.04Lts in dual boot on my second drive, but since then I am unable to boot into windows 7 on my first drive. Ubuntu is installed in UEFI like Windows. In my BIOS, I have the two options for my first drive( ubuntu and Windows Boot Manager), Ubuntu works fine but when I select Windows Boot Manager I get error :

Status : 0xc0000225
Info: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

When I boot into Ubuntu, I got 3 entries in my GRUB menu : Windows UEFI bootmgfw.efi, Windows Boot UEFI loader and Windows Boot Manager(on /dev/sda1)
They all give me the same error when I select them :

file : \windows\system32\winload.efi
status : 0xc0000001
info : The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

I have tried booting in UEFI on a windows 7 installation disk and running startup repairs, but it failed in System files integrity check and repair with failed-error code 0x490.

Can anyone help?

So, you have a Windows 7 disk and when you place it in the disk drive it takes a while. It's relatively normal for disks.
Once it's installed the boot times will be much much much less.

What are you trying to do? You want to install it over the current Windows XP?

How much time does it take to get you to the screen where you choose the language? Can you proceed?

Well; to be honest; I dont think you really need to worry about those things too much as windows pretty much handles all of that on its own; however; if you really want to know try taking a look at this video from youtube; as it may help answer any questions. if it doesnt Im not really sure where else to point ya to because as i said most of what you are asking is done behind the scenes so to speak and is handled by windows by itself automatically.

Hi guys apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

This morning I turned on my Lenovo G580 laptop running windows 7 and it was running fine, I've had no previous problems at all. It suddenly froze for seemingly no reason and half an hour later was still frozen so I turned it off and on again. It was unable to boot windows 7 and the repair system option that appears ever time I try to boot it now takes me to a screen with a blue background that looks like it should be a login screen but there is no login option available.

I have attempted the one key recovery system installed on my laptop but that too seems to freeze up before I can do anything. I do not have a windows 7 disk available as it came pre installed However I made a system repair disk using a windows 10 desktop but this also seems to be of no use as it will also freeze or simply not boot whenever I try to do something.

I was able to boot into a Ubuntu disk which let me see into my windows files without needing to repair any drive, however there were files there I'd deleted long ago aswell as files that should've been there even back then that were missing.

Willing to provide any mor information that might help if anyone has any ideas? Or could move this to the appropriate forum.

Thanks for any and all help.

I am using Windows7 Ultimate x64 on a Notebook computer and so far OK. However, a network program came from government can run only on x32 of Windows. So that I am planning to have dual boot system now.

I am wondering what will happen on my account and local mail-box.

I have Win7 x64 on C drive and D drive is prepared for Win7 x32.
Q1: C drive has /users directory and my account info is there. What will happen on this directory if I install Win7 x32 with same user name and same password?

Q2: I am using Thunderbird with IMAP server. Can I use same mail-box both from Win x64 and Win 7 x32 time to time? I have moved most of mail to Localfolder.

A:Dual Boot of Windows7 x64 and x32

Boot the 32 bit installer to install to the second partition you've prepared.

The installer will configure the Dual Boot Menu. If not, add the other OS using EasyBCD 2.02. EasyBCD 2.0.2 - NeoSmart Technologies

Whichever Win7 you boot into will see itself as C, as Win7 has made improvements in Dual Booting so that unless you install it from another OS it will always be C when you boot into it.

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Removing XP from a dual boot is not easy. Do not delete these files until you are sure your Win7 will boot, or you will be left with no bootable OS.

Post a snip of your Disk Management.

The Snipping tool is in the start menu.

If you no longer need ANYTHING in the XP partition, boot to the W7 installation and open Disk Management. Format the XP partition, then expand c: to include the free space. Another alternative to disk management is a 3rd party utility such as Easeus Partition Manager.

Hi there

Hope u can help me. But before I go on, I have searched high and low and can't find the answer to my question anywhere here. Hecne why I am starting a new thread:

I have a PC, with 2 hard drives: Primary HDD, 250Mb, and a secondary drive, 1Tb.

The primary is labelled as 'C''Windows 7'. I have partitioned the secondary drive, into 2 drives: D and E. Called 'D' Windows XP and E my Games drive. D again is about 250Mb and E the rest.

I then proceeded to install windows XP 64bit over my windows 7 64bit. Followed the tutorial here and it all went ok. I have the XP installed, operating fine and my 7 is also working fine. However, I can't get the dual boot display to work correctly at the moment. To boot into XP, I have to hit F12 during boot up and select my second hard drive to boot up. and if I want 7, it boots up by default.

I have modified my BCD registry per tutorial, both in XP and windows7. I get the dual boot message at the beginnig, but when I click on XP, it tells me boot.ini is not correct, failed to detect NTLDR.

Can someone please help me and tell me what to do.
One thing I have noticed is that when 7 loads up, the drives are as they are. But when XP loads up, it renames my C drive to D and my D drive to C. So even though 7 is installed on C drive, when loading XP, it says C is the XP drive! Wierd!

PLease see the attached screnshots. They are pretty much self explanatory, they where all taken with 7 loaded up and not XP.

A:Help with Dual Boot please - Windows7 and XP

The cleanest dual boot method with separate HD's is via BIOS boot order, or one-time Boot Menu key. This makes HD's independent to come and go as you please, whereas Windows-managed dual boot interlocks them.

If you want to use BIOS boot method, then just Remove XP from windows-managed Dual Boot using EasyBCD, set your preferred HD to boot first in BIOS boot order, then use one-time Boot Menu key to boot other drive.

If you still want Windows-managed Dual Boot, Install EasyBCD 2.0 beta to Win7 after doing quick registration to use beta in forum.

Remove XP listing on Add/Remove tab, then add it back, accept boot files, autoconfigures, Save, Restart.

Let us know how it goes.

So this is going on a couple years now off and on trying to figure this out.

I don't even remember what happened to initially cause windows to not boot, but I luckily installed Kubuntu before just in case something like this happened. I've been using Kubunutu since, but I really miss photoshop and want to try and either fix windows, or delete the partition and make room.

So I don't have a disc, Well I do but its not the right one, its just the same repair tools I can boot into. Startup repair doesn't work, I've gotten two different results from that.

I tried something with fixing the master boot record but that didn't work and made a headache to get grub back to be able to load kubuntu.

I don't even know where to start. Any ideas?

A:Can't boot Windows7, No Logo

Boot into System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair several separate times with reboots, report back results.

Startup Repair should offer to automate System Restore. If not run it from the options list.

If this fails start at the top of the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start since it may be infected and won't repair until disinfected.

At any time you can boot into the Win7 installer to delete its partition to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums. This is a vastly superior install to HP factory preinstalled Win7 anyway, which is larded with bloatware and duplicate utiltiies which interfere with better versions built into Win7. Everything is provided in the blue link tutorial including Special Notes for HP Owners at the end.

Afterwards you can add back in the Ubuntu to a Dual Boot using this method which works well: Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7

When windows boots, and you are logged in, quickly press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC on your keyboard. Click performance. What does it say?

So, I turned on my computer today and after the MSI logo screen it sits there. I went in to the MSI menu and looked at the loading order, it says the hardrive is still there BUT, it's not lit up like my external hardrive or CD drive are when they are plugged in.

I tried re-plugging the sata and power cords, rebooting, nothing. I'm thinking maybe something about my windows MBR is not working?

I'm curious how I can either repair windows, repair the MBR, or maybe even restore to an earlier point? Using my Ubuntu OS that's working from a USB stick.

I would rather not lose everything on my hardrive meaning I need to take the time to back up everything.
Any help at all would be massively appreciated.

Do you have Windows install media?
Boot into Ubuntu and browse the C: Drive, save your personal User files (ie)pictures, music, documents to a USB HDD.
Once safely backed up, boot off of the Windows media and choose Repair Your Computer.

I have installed windows 7 recently in another hard disk , beside having windows XP already installed in different hard disk, so I have dual boot system XP& W7,,,, after working with windows 7 , I have found that it so interesting and decided to go on working with it, what I would like to do, is to remove XP , I am afraid if I do so , I might have a problem with system booting , so what I should do, should I use BCD , or W7 DVD, I do not have experience in both of them , so what is the best way of adjusting my boot loader and how I should do it

A:remove xp from dual boot xp&windows7

Do you wish to remove XP to recover the disk space, or do you just want to hide the XP option and boot directly to W7?

To simply hide the XP option do the following in W7

1. right click MY COMPUTER or COMPUTER in the start menu
3. Click SETTINGS under "Startup and Recovery"
4. set the default OS to Windows 7 and untick "time to display list of operating systems"
5. press OK, OK
6. reboot

Hello all
I want to install linux along with windows 7 on my Dell studio 15. For this as i have read on the threads that C: drive needs to be shrunk as it is the active partition . And for linux at least 10 GB should be kept as unallocated space . But when i tried to shrink my C: drive then the available space for shrinking is shown to be just 39 MB which is highly insufficient . So , please suggest how to increase this size and install linux on my PC .

Any suggestions are most welcome !!
Thanks in anticipation !!

A:How to dual boot windows7 and Linux ?

i would have just pop in the live CD, and use the installer to shrink the space for linux. i shrink or create the partitions inside windows, i let the installer do it, like in ubuntu, it has a slider that you allocate for how much space you want to give for linux, then it creates the needed partition and installs. its that simple!

can you create a screen shot of your disk management to see what u created. right click on computer and choose manage and then click on the disk management on the left.

Few months ago I installed Ubuntu to play with but not quite liked it and I've managed to erased it. I did it improperly though as now I've got two options at computer start up to choose from. obviously Ubuntu is not on my machine anymore but the computer keep asking me what system to start.
Is there any solution to get rid of this?

Windows7 won't start on my laptop Samsung RF711. Initially I was able to open safe mode and tried to scan with Malwarebytes anti malware. In the middle of scanning my comp rebooted (having found 3 objects by then). I did it once again and same thing happened and since then i havent been able to open safe mode anymore (it freezes). "Repair" doesn't work either, it also rebooted and since then has been freezing. I also tried "last good configuration" (or something like that) but didn't help either. What should I do?

A:windows7 won't boot (even in safe mode)

last resource is
1st pullout your hard drive then connect it to another computer (make sure you have a antivirus on that computer)
2nd plug the hdd back to the laptop
3rd get a copy of windows 7 (if you dont have download it from a trusted source)(Note:it may take time to download windows 7 )
4th reset your computer
5th scan al your baccked up files in case theres a hidden virus in there
6th activate your copy of windows 7 using the product key sticker below your computer
7th take a usb and copy your backups to your  computer
8th done
hope this works for you cya ;)

Surely they are on separate partitions, running 7 will leave XP partition free to format.

Today, my 3 year old Windows computer/installation for the first time did not boot normally. This morning I started my computer, got to the welcome screen, entered my password but the spinning icon kept on spinning - Windows would not load. I pushed reset and got the "Windows didn't start normally screen." An attempt to start normally failed, but this time I didn't even make it to the password box, just the spinning icon. On the next attempt I chose Safe mode w/o networking which worked.
I'm guessing that Msconfig/Selective startup is my first troubleshooting step? If so, can someone get me started troubleshooting? BC has been a Godsend for me in the past. I would like to thank everyone in advance for their help!

A:Windows7 will only boot into safe mode

You can try the msconfig/selective startup or, you could try from the boot menu options (safe mode menu) select last known good configuration instead. Sometimes updates get messed up and cause problems like this. To get to the boot options menu, after turning on the computer from a powered off state: start tapping F8 on your keyboard and then use your arrow keys to highlight last known good configuration, then hit enter, with any luck it will boot up normally.

Hi all I have just joined this forum today because I have a couple of questions about installing Win7. My Gateway desktop has a 250gb harddrive which has Windows Vista SP1 installed on a 70gb C;/(active/boot) partition and a 10gbD/recovery partition and the rest of the drive is Unallocated- and this is where I intend to install Win7. However I don't want it to use all of the unallocated space, so during setup will I be able to limit how much space Win7 can use?
My computer shows these drives: Windows Vista (C
Local Disk(recovery) (D

When I install Win7 how will my drive nomenclature change other than it will obviously grow by at least one letter? Can someone on here predict what drive letter Win7 will assign itself and how the others will change?

Hello Mates,

Had my laptop offline for 2 weeks, when it came on last night there were 8 Windows updates. Download, restart.

After startup it shows this 'configuring updates' but takes unusual 20minutes so I thought its frozen. I turn it off manually.

I turn it on and... nothing. Black screen. I cant access bios and safe mode either. I can see the battery is on for some time and goes off itself.

Any ideas what to start with?

I have a VAIO laptop that froze a few days ago during internet browsing and not won't boot up into windows.

I have tried the startup repair with no success. I read another thread where someone was having a similar problem and it turned out to be avast anti virus. I don't run avast - I do however have AVG and have heard that can also be a problem.

I can get into the command prompt by using the Windows DVD to boot or also by going through the repair menu. I have run a chkdsk /r /x and also chkdsk /f /x but neither resolved my issue.

I have seen some awesome advice on the threads here and hoping someone can walk me through some diagnostics to hopefully get this resolved.

Thanks very much!

Don't have specific solution but the conventional wisdom is to always install the oldest version of Windows first then the newer version should be settable for the boot choices.

Hi, I'm using Windows7, dual boot with Linux Ubuntu 10.04, Recently, I installed another OS (Linux Mint). Before installing this Mint, I deleted primary partition (sda1) and created entended partition from the earlier primary partition sda1. Since that, I cannot boot into my Windows7 anymore (received error message something like "no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key"), but I've no problem in booting into both Linux Ubuntu and Mint.

I've tried a few things, but seems like the luck is not with me. Below are the things that I've tried:

1. Boot Recovery Disc Windows7 and done the Repair Startup many times (more than 5 times), still no luck.

2. Boot Recovery Disc Windows7 and chose Command Prompt to use:
Bootrec /scanos - The Windows is listed.
Bootrec /fixboot - No element found,
Bootrec /fixmbr - Completed succesfully.

3. Boot Recovery Disc Windows7 and chose Command Prompt to use Diskpart, everything seems okay for the list disk, select disk, list partiton, select partion, except the "active" command. I've been prompted with something like "Virtual Disk Service Error: the specified partition type is not valid for this operation".

I've installed back grub for me to log in into Linux Ubuntu/Mint. From Linux Gparted, I can see this windows partition is flagged as boot. Currently, I've unplugged the other 320 GB hard disk and only use one 320 GB hard disk for all the OS above. I've read a few threads with similar is... Read more
