Add-on (app) to control cookies

Q: Add-on (app) to control cookies

Does anyone know of an add-on or app to control cookies on the PC? So far I was using the native feature of Firefox, but lately it's giving me trouble. So I started thinking, there's got to be some add-on that can tell me what each cookie does and deletes automatically those that I don;t want to keep, while protecting those that I do want to keep. Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Add-on (app) to control cookies

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've got IE 5.5 on my computer, and I don't want IE 6.0, because that seems to cause probs for me.

Anyways, know of a good program that will allow me to accept and decline cookies that I want or don't want? Preferrably freeware, although shareware that isn't annoying is ok.

Thanks.

A:Mmm... cookies. Know of a good program to control them?

Hiya

You could try this although many prefer 3rd party programs.

Tools | Internet Options. Security tab. Custom Level.

Scroll to Cookies, and set to Prompt. There are 2 of them. Apply and OK.

So from what I found out so far I have an unusual problem....maybe no but having a hard time troubleshooting and I am almost completely bald trying to find the answer.

So....I have a server running small business which is hooked into the switch which then goes to 10 workstations with windows 2000.

I have cable internet it's run from the modem to a router then to the server. (I believe so but the server used to be unprotected and connected directly to the internet and we had a major meltdown about 3 months a go and had a professional come in and fix it)

Everything was running fine until about a month ago. So I am doing my daily marketing on yahoo. I open up 2 IE windows. One is for the Yahoo Marketing Site. The other is to see my site placement on Yahoo. (that way I make sure I am not spending too much or to little on Yahoo)

The problem I am having now is when I do a search for a keyword of mine to see my placement for that keyword, I don't see my listing. I don't even see my competitors sites, Just a but of really bad choices that have the keyword in it. Almost like it has listed the worst last. Only mine isn't at the end either. So I checked on all the other computer and still can't find the site. I don't see it on Google, or Altavista either.

I go home after work and try to do some catch up. I check to see if I can now see my site listings...Thinking it was a glitch that happened. I have no problem finding it. I am listed right where I sh... Read more

I have set the Internet options -> privacy settings to low. but still I'm unable to get into the website. whenever i select any item and click on "add to cart" button, I'm facing this error dialog!!!!!

Anyone got an idea what it could be, or how to solve it?

Hi! I cannot use the "remember me" feature on sites such as Gmail, Facebook, Yahoo, online banking, etc. When attempting to log into online banking, I recieve the message that "session cookies are not enabled". I know how to enable cookies and have done so under Internet Options> Privacy> Advanced... I don't know if it's malware related, and nothing I've tried has picked it up or fixed it. I've used AVG, Symantec, Spybot S&D and a few others in failed attempts to find anything malicious. I also have HijackThis and can post a log in the other forum if needed, just let me know. I've read the "read before posting" information and hopefully have included the appropriate info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

PS - If I click "remember me" when logging in to Gmail, the page "redirects" for a while and then doesn't go anywhere. In order to even access the Gmail homepage again, I have to clear my cookies. Also, I have uninstalled any P2P software, as I am now aware of how dangerous it can be.

That is pretty extreme just to clear cookies.

I can't vouch for all browsers, but IE and Opera can be setup to clear cookies every time you exit the browser. Opera allows you to manage cookies, so that only newer cookies are deleted.

On a personal note:
Once I noticed how many cookies were loaded just by logging into Techspot, I said the hell with trying to manage cookies. There was just to many of them, after viewing so few pages. It made finding cookies, you might want to keep very difficult.

I can't use my Control with any other key to copy, cut, paste, or
bring up task manager.

Help please and thanks, Mary

Here is my hijackthis text file.

A:Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

Mary, keyboard problems are not invariably software or malware-related. First things first - what OS are you talking about ? XP, Win 7, Win 8 or what? What type of keyboard is it? PS2, USB or wireless?

Disconnect it and reconnect it a few times, reboot and try again. Turn the keyboard upside down, placing one end on the edge of a thick book, and thump a few times on the back with your hand. Sweep the crud onto the carpet.....

Is it just a keyboard hardware problem, and if so which keys? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/keyboard-shortcuts#keyboard-shortcuts=windows-7 tells you a lot of key combinations with ctrl and shift and alt. Tell us if any or none work?

Open a document and try typing a bit of text. Do all the characters work?

If it appears the keyboard is faulty, can you borrow another to test?

Quite often, keyboard problems are down to wireless problems: and can often be solved by re-installing the keyboard driver.

I need to programmatically make some adjustments to the Internet Explorer security settings. Most of these settings I have found but there are a few I have not been able to get a clear exact location for in the registry. I will be using a .BAT file to make
the adjustments on 100+ PCs.

Here is what I am looking for.....

Under the "Internet  Properties" found in control panel, under the "Privacy" tab there is an "Advanced" option button. When I click on it I get an "Advance Privacy Settings" options box. On it are several settings.
The first setting, "Override automatic cookie handling" needs to be checked in order to access the other options. I can do that by adjusting the DWord value of "PrivacyAdvanced" under the "Internet Settings" key in the registry,
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet settings", to be specific.

What I have not been able to find are the registry entries for the "First-party Cookies" "Accept, Block, or Prompt" options, the "Third-party Cookies" "Accept, Block, or Prompt" options, and the "Always allow
session cookies" check box. Please see picture below....

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

I'm running Windows 8.1 64bits.

I have noticed since a couple of days ago that my Control+Tab shortcut does not work anymore. Not on text editors, not on web browsers, not on property pages, nowhere.

Control+Shift+Tab (reverse tab navigation) still works.

I have checked the results on an application called "Ethervane ActiveHotkeys". In there, it states that Control+Shift+Tab is not an active hotkey but that Control+Tab IS. I assume that some application decided to globally pick up Control+Tab for itself.

I have tried restarting (and testing as quickly as possible before all programs load), I have tried closing down all applications that the task manager will let me and still the shortcut does not work.

I tried going to msconfig and disabling all programs and non-Microsoft services with no luck, but if I start Windows 8 in Safe Mode then Control+Tab works again.

I tried running Hotkey Commander; it shows Control+Tab as being bound by some application, but does not show which application it is. If I delete/disable the hotkey binding from inside Hotkey Commander then it works again until I restart.

I'm stumped as to how to troubleshoot this further and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Hi all,

Access 2003 with VBA code time again!

I have a form named "MyForm" with a single tab control on it named "MyTabCtl1".

The Tab Control holds three pages: "Tab_Page_1", "Tab_Page_2" and "Tab_Page_3" and each page has a number of bound controls on it.

Now, on "Tab_Page_3" I have an unbound control called "Descriptor_00"

I wish to create code that, on loading the form, will set the ".text" or ".value" property of "Descriptor_00" to be a combined string derived from other controls on the same and other pages.

On a standard form, I'd use something like:

Me!MyControl.Value = Me![First Control] & ", " & Me![Second Control] & (etc)

to build my combined string.

But, how would I do this for a control on a page of a tabbed control ? What's the syntax cuz I'me puzzled!!

Does this make any sense?

All the best

Chris

Do you have any other soundcard-like devices like a USB headset?
Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.
Did you get some special program with the motherboard drivers that would give you more control over sound than the Windows standard volume utility?

Please delete the version currently on your computer, then click here and download the new version to your desktop. To use HijackThis, double-click on the icon. When it runs it will prompt you to extract hijackthis.exe to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis. If you would like to extract it to another location you can change the directory. When it is done installing, HijackThis will automatically launch. When the license agreement appears, select I accept and then click on the Do a system scan only button. When the scan is complete, click on the Save Log button to create a log of your information. When you post the new log, please post it directly in the body of your reply, rather than attaching the file.Dave

I recently discovered the shortcut keys for copy and paste, cntrl c & cntl v, do not work for certain programs. For example, if I have a picture using Windows Photo Gallery (or Paint) and I hit cntrl c and try to paste it in an email, cntrl v, nothing happens. Hello!
I got myself an Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ condenser microphone a few weeks ago, and I haven't really found out how I can change the gain, which I hear is important to do.
There is only one slider where the gain slider also should have been. The mic doesn't have a gain know like some other microphones have.

As you can see there is one slider. It only changes volume as far as I know.

How can I change the gain, is it needed, or can I maybe control gain using the volume slider?
If I can't change it directly through the mic or through the control panel, how can I change it? D:

Thanks in advance!

A:Can't control gain! No slider in control panel!

I have a recording studio (Sonar X3) and use several AT mics but they are not USB mics (such as the AT2035 and AT2050).

"Volume level" is the same as "gain". You can adjust the "Volume Level" or you can adjust the "gain" - both are the same thing. On mixers, amplifiers, etc, some will call the volume control "level" and others "gain".

A USB mic should have its own listing in the Sound/Recording Panel. Whatever slider that is has, such as what you show, should adjust the volume level. Many recording programs also have volume level adjustments.

Thanks for reading this. Boy, do I need help.

Somehow I got my permissions all messed up. I can't access some folders. I have worked a lot trying to use properties-security tab and playing around, and I can sometimes change permissions so I can use a folder. But I am trying to open "Documents and Settings" and it will not let me change permissions on it and I can't get into it. I think I could before this mess started.
When I start up, instead of one account (jim) which had administrative privileges, now I have two, Administrators and jim. I always had all permissions with jim, but somehow it's messed up now.
Why can't I have complete control over my own computer as jim? Nobody else will ever use it, it's in my office. But Windows keeps stopping me over permissions, or the message "Access denied."

Anyway, so I logged out as administrator jim and logged in as Administrator. Now I don't even see the folder Documents and Settings.

How can I once and for all get complete control over my computer so I can open or delete any folder or file?

Thanks so much for any help, it's making me pull my hair out.

Jim

A:I've lost control of permissions, how can get get control back?

There is no "Documents and Settings" for Win7, unless perhaps you've un-checked "hide protected operating system files". This "Documents and Settings" folder name is an XP concept, which for Win7 is really part of \Users.

If you open Explorer, and select on the "Organize" item on the menu bar, then "Folder and search options" from the dropdown list, and then View tab, you can CHECK that "hide protected operating system files (recommended)". That's a good thing. And it will also automatically prevent you from trying to access hidden system files that you have no business trying to access by that name since they're now invisible and cannot even be seen. They will instead appear with their proper folder names in Explorer, and you shouldn't be denied access to these properly named folders.

And while there, up a bit in the "hidden files and folders" item you should UN-CHECK the "show hidden files, folders and drives" item. That will let you see your \Users\<userid>\Appdata folder, where much is kept for each user... and you certainly should see \Users\Jim.

Underneath \Users\Jim you should also see \My Documents, \My Music, \My Pictures, etc., which is where your data (for Jim) would normally be saved unless you put it somewhere else.

Don't allow access unless you clearly understand what you are doing. Your computer received a remote login request by user Adam1 from the IP 88.242.162.244. Denying access results in a message: "Error found, Cannot perform the requested operation. Your license for Network Control has expired. There is a Renew button. The network I maintain at a school has policy restrictions which do not allow users access to the printer controls. However I would like them to have the ability to control their own print jobs and unpause printers etc. But when editing the policy I find that they get access to control panel at the same time and can do lots of possible damage.

Can I do this any way while minimising possible damage? We are running an NT4 network with some 95 and some NT workstations.

many thanks

I inherited a Dell XP420 Computer with Vista Operating System from my stepson Pat who could never figure out the machine.

I seem to have many problems with Vista revolving around User Account Control, Privileges, Permissions, Ownership, user names, file control and directory structure. etc.

I?ve been working around UAC problems, but there has to be a way out of this. My most recent issue:

IE has problems fully loading web pages. With IE, like several programs that I run with this computer I get messages that say I have corrupt files. I get object error warnings Chkdsk does not fix problems.

While shopping for a new car battery, with many pages open, the computer completely hung up last night. I had to kill power and reboot.

IE7 did not work, I Unloaded and IE7 would not work also. Google Chrome is fine, I have internet access. I reset all defaults.

After hours of messing around, I discovered the way to start IE is ?Run as Administrator?
Then like so many other programs I run, I get the screen Windows screen
? A Program needs your permission to continue.?

When I dumped my old files on this XP420 computer from my old computer, They resided in User ?Mike_W_old.? I had no permissions with this user, so I moved all the files to ?Pat? I renamed user/administrator Pat to Mike _W under the desktop, but the user pat did not update under the OS C:\ drive \ Users\ Pat and there is no option to rename here.

Pat was the original administrator. Vista is tel... Read more

I understand how computers receive cookies for various reasons, however, when are they active? Immediately? later, continuously with internet hook up??

A:Cookies

mostly cookies are harmless peices of code that enable sites to recognise when you connect to their site,so you dont have to log-on or re-type your details.........if you flush your cookies folder you will notice that you have to re-log in to sites because your no longer recognised.
some cookies are not so welcome, you should run "adaware" www.lavasoftusa.com it will search for unwanted cookies(spy/adware cookies)and delete them.
hope this goes some way to explaining for you.

where on XP do you go to delete out your temp files and cookies I been there before but forgot how also 7 would be helpful

Thanks

A:cookies

There are two third party apps that do a very good job. One is ccleaner, the other is atf cleaner.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25

Caution: Do not use the registry option in ccleaner. Registry cleaners are not very reliable and have been known to delete keys necessary for the operation of the system.

Is there a way i can select the certain cookie that stores the log in, and make sure that it isn't cleared when I run the ATF-cleaner?Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

What browser? It seems as though ATF should have a setting to ignore personal cookies that are saved.
