New Adobe Flash and Reader update today

RELEVANCY SCORE 200
Preferred Solution: New Adobe Flash and Reader update today

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Guys,

Computer booted up today and after several minutes maybe a half hour, I got a message that "Adobe Flash has an update. if you do nothing, it will be automatically installed within 45 days, or you can download it now." Nothing open, just the Desktop. Well, I closed out and did nothing, because Windows 10 normally updates Flash Player without notices.

I checked Windows Update and a new version of Adobe Flash was installed today automatically. Just giving those a heads up that you might want to close the Window if you see that message. Don't know if it could lead to malware or not. Some of you may get this message in Windows 10, so I just wanted to give you a heads up notice. I don't know if this message was legit or not. I have never had an issue like this before.

Hello,
I originally posted in the Am I infected forum here. Last Monday, 3/21 my ISP cox communications sent me an email stating that I may be infected with Alureon/TDSS. I called 3 times and did everything they suggested. I ran MalewareBytes, Norton Power Eraser, Microsoft Safety Scanner, TDSSKiller, and Roguekiller. Plus my usual real time scanning Antivirus- MCafee Security suite.

Today while on my local news website, another window suddenly opened and contained a fake adobe flash update. I noticed right away because I hadn't clicked anything and it even appeared to take me to a different website. The domain was aaliyamericanapparel.com. I immediately shut down the fake installer and pressed the back button which took me back to the news article I was reading.

I believe that a new version of Adobe Reader has also been released to deal with the latest security issues.

In this case, the problem is Adobe Flash more than Adobe/Acrobat Reader. Although the vulnerability can also be vectored through malicious PDF files to invoke FLASH, merely replacing Adobe Reader with another PDF reader is not the solution because malicious Flash files are not limited to PDF format. I started cleaning this computer up for a friend. Initially she couldn't even access the internet. Initially it seemed as if I was able to clean it up pretty good. I used Malwarebytes to do the job. However each time I clean it up & rescan it, it seems to find the same infections even after they are quarantined and deleted. Once the trial for Malwarebytes expired, I decided to try using Microsoft Security Essential, made some headway there, The system seemed to be responding pretty well as I was uninstalling unnecessary programs and some browser ad-ons. Windows updates were now coming in and actually being installed successfully on the first try. Unfortunately, that only lasted for a while, because again as I quarantine remove infections, they were detected, quarantined and removed...a few times
Currently, it seems as if it isn't the same infections being detected, but something "new".
I recently disabled Microsoft Security Essentials and Installed Avast Antivirus. I wanted to see what it would catch. It is scanning now, so far it has stopped one or two threats, It hasn't completed it's scan yet. So I am waiting to see what it finds. In the mean time, I decided I'd better reach out for some help, so I hope you guys can help me.

Should i just ignore this as the program itself say's i have the right version and assume maybe there is a glitch in adobe updater.

Windows XP Pro, HP Pavilion, IE8, McAfee.   Some years ago I wanted a newer version of Adobe Reader. It wouldn't download which seemed a common problem and I did a few suggested things and - don't hate me - not sure exactly what but since it wouldn't update I found an early version that would:  Reader 5.  Now I seem stuck with it - not a great problem for what I use this computer for but notice that some files no longer download because they need newer version of Reader.
I think Reader 8 (needed for TurboTax) would keep me going for some years to come and accomodate those few times a newer version is needed, but it is no longer on the Adobe site and free "versions" of it online don't make me feel it would be safe to get that way.  Question:  are those free downloads of fake Reader 8 safe?    Or is downloading 9 (still available) easy and really trouble free from the Adobe site and that's a good way to go (I'd try this)?   Adobe still has problems downloading as I have read on some forums and don't want to uninstall 5 if I'm left without anything at all.  I know this isn't cutting edge, but some of us just keep using what works.  Any help at all appreciated.

I have a question.running Windows XP SP-3 and I think Adobe Reader 9. All updates are installed:

When I download a PDF file, I get a message in IE 8's info bar. "To protect your security, IE blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options."

When I click the Info bar to say 'Download File", nothing happens. But if I click on the PDF file on-line a second time, it opens. I think I used to be able to just click "Download File" once and than it downloaded.

It seems to be the same way with the Pop-Up Blocker, I have to Temporarily allow pop ups (always from trusted sites) and than click a second time to allow the pop-ups to show. Comments?

A:Adobe Reader DC not working after Ann. update

Not sure what is interfering with Adobe Reader DC on your two systems; It works fine on all my 5 Computers.

Which Internet Security are you using? May need to grant permission to run.

Clean Boot, and see if it runs.

Reset your Browser/s.

Run SFC and DISM.

Download and run CCleaner. Repeat running it until it no longer finds anything

Run a full virus scan.

Download and run Malwarebytes.

Uninstall ARDC then install an alternative PDF reader. Such as, PDF reader for Windows 10. This is only for test purposes.

I've tried several times over the course of the past 2 weeks to update Adobe Reader so that the update notice will go away and also so that Adobe Reader will be updated in case of any security vulnerabilities.Whenever I attempt to update it, it begins to install the new update, then right in the middle of updating, the same error message box pops. I also tried to uninstall Adobe Reader from REmove Programs but received the same error message.

Is malware preventing the installation of this upgrade?

Thank you,
sonrol

A:Cannot update or uninstall Adobe Reader 9.4.0

Well...I don't see why Adobe anything...should access a key that appears to relate to email functioning in a MS folder, IMO.

Hiya

Adobe Acrobat Reader is a program used for reading PDF files. Acrobat Reader version 6.0.1 and possibly other versions are vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by improper handling of NULL characters. By creating a specially-crafted PDF file, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with user privileges, once the file is opened. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending the malicious file to a victim in an email

Platforms Affected:

Adobe Systems, Inc.: Acrobat Reader 6.0.1
Various: Any operating system Any version
http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/16667
Go here and get the update, or if you want, you can uninstall the version you have now, and install 6.0.2 Basic, which doesn't install the other stuff, and when fully installed, is just ~17MB large.

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/alternate.html

Scroll down till you see this bit:

Adobe Reader 6.0.2, basic version
These downloads of Adobe Reader have already been updated to version 6.0.2.

The full version is if you want to distribute it to other pc's

eddie

You don't have permission rights to that reg. key which is stopping the update process. I will show you how to change the permission right once I have looked at the key closer and write it down.

Earlier, I had a virus that redirected all my search links so I posted a thread in the virus/malware section of this website. We successfully removed the virus, but the person also recommended to me that I update Adobe, since viruses could lurk in outdated programs with unenhanced security features. However, Adobe was impossible to update. So, somehow we managed to remove Adobe completely from the computer so I could just try to reinstall it. However, I don't think I was successful in completely removing it, and the next time I tried to update the program, this same message popped up:
Error 1402.Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\...\MSFS. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Then it did some sort of roll-back action, and then this message popped up:

Error 1402.Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\...\IMAIL. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

And then it rolled back again and the setup completely failed. It does this every time I try to install or update Adobe Reader. Please help, I need Adobe!

For years it was known as Adobe Acrobat Reader then several years ago it was changed to Adobe Reader. Installed it on a rebuild and it is now known as Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, but still free. Biggest issue was getting a clean download, took 3 tries apparently because their server was busy. It does include something about creating online .pdf files but don't need to check that just yet, probably will want money.

Hi,
As far as I know Adobe reader XI is the most popular
The acrobat line is yes free as a reader but not as a creator so it will indeed want an upgrade to do that,
Which I would not use it unless you wanted to upgrade and simply use reader XI instead
Cheers.

Adobe Reader has gotten somewhat bloated which is why I now use Foxit. Free, works great and uses very little resources.

Like any new program there are a few things to learn. It is compatible with both IE and Firefox. The download includes plugins for both.

I did an in-place upgrade to Win 8 CP from Win 7 SP1; and all has by and large been fine.

Before, Adobe Reader X 10.1.2 worked fine, but it wouldn't update to the latest verson claiming the package was corrupt. I then, perhaps foolishly, uninstalled Adobe Reader X with a view to just installing 10.1.3. Unfortunately it won't. It says it can't read the AcroRead.msi setup file in c:\Programdata\Adobe\Setup\(long string) and to verify that the file is there (which it is).

Anyone else run into anything similar?

Cheers!

Jonathan

A:Adobe Reader X won't update/install

Simple.

Copy the .msi to another folder then run it from there.

Thank you in advance for help, this is a great service.

I have been trying to Update Adobe Reader for weeks now when asked and kept on getting this error message " Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\Config.Msi\1658852.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory " ... Someone told me too just un-install Adobe and re-install but when i tried to re-install a similar error message failed in the install.

And i now cant seem to play any online videos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,

This obnoxious behaviour is getting beyond annoying. Does anyone know how to prevent Adobe's updates from putting the icons back on the desktop? Day before yesterday or something 10.1 came out I think, so all the clueless people are calling up the support desk "halp omg there's something new on my desktop i think my pc got teh virus???", not to mention the people who "accidentally" dragged it somewhere, or hit delete on the wrong icon, etc.

Primo PDF works great for creating PDFs, but we haven't found a suitable replacement reader yet. Suggestions on this would be welcome too.

Maybe msconfig and disable Adobe at startup?

This is something that has been happening for a long time, but Adobe Reader update asks to update every time I start up Windows. However, at the end of the update it gives this error message every time: "Error 2727.The directory entry 'NETSCAPE_4' does not exist in the Directory table."
How to fix this?

A:Adobe Reader update continues to fail

Hi Milennin

What version of Adobe Reader are you currently running. I think the best step forward is to un install the version you currently have and install the latest version from here - Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions This should in turn fix the automatic update issues you are experiencing at present

Danny

Be sure to uncheck the added extras for McAfee

If you're using Windows XP and already have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.1 installed, you can get the 7.0.2 update here and here. The update supposedly addresses several issues in version 7.0.1.
