Slow Software Installation - VISTA HOME BASIC 32

Q: Slow Software Installation - VISTA HOME BASIC 32

I have a clean build machine with the following spec:
CPU: AMD ATHLON 7750 Dual Core

Initally installed XP to check out machine - everything was fine (XP install took normal length of time - approx 30 mins).

Then purchased VISTA HOME BASIC and did a clean install.

VISTA took ages to install. After 4.5 hours I went to bed and let it finish overnight. At least it installed though!

Now trying to install SIMS 3. What a nightmare. Takes forever, again left overnight. However install failed with:

Anyone got any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just got a new computer from cyberpowerpc and had vista pre installed on it. I've had it for less than a week. I tried to activate it with the product key they gave me but it said invalid. So I googled it and came to some forum or something. Some guy laid out instructions on how to "fix it" and it just made the situation a whole lot worse. It wants me to use my cd to activate it, but the whole process is just reinstalling it i think, and I cant even do that. I get up to the select the driver to be installed screen, and it shows nothing, so I can't go on.

Whats drivers is it looking for, why do i have this key problem, and how am I supposed to fix this

A:Vista 64 Home basic Key/Re-installation problems

If it is a new system and it wasn't activated yet, I would call up the place you got it from and tell them your problem. You shouldn't have a problem like this on a new system if you just got it. They may have gotten some cds and keys mixed up or something, I'm really not sure, but I would deffiently call them up first.

Hello everyone,

I currently am running Vista Home Basic. Awhile ago I installed Microsoft Office 2007, shortly after i had a error occuring where my mouse wouldn't work in Word. So like in XP i just went to the Program Files and deleted the program. Unfortunately I should have uninstalled the program through control panel.

The problem I am having now, is that i cannot install or uninstall Microsoft Office now. When I insert the cd it gives me a setup error, and the same message when i try to uninstall it. I've tried many different register cleaners, and different forms of UAC. I'm currently the admin on my computer ( even though that doesn't mean jack squat for Vista).

Is there anyway i can fix this problem? if so please help me!

Over the past couple of months my computer has become unbearably slow. At times it can take as much three to five minutes just to open a programme and I get "Page(s) have become unresponsive" message every time I try to do anything.

I have tried running msconfig and turned off all non-essential startup items but this does not appear to help. Almost ready to throw comp off roof top.

Can anyone assist?

A:Vista Home Basic Painfully Slow

There are different steps you can take to bring your PC up to performance.

You can and should run a virus scan, safe mode will be the best option for you to run this scan. I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials as it is a free and effective AntiVirus.

You should also do a Disk Defragmenter, to access this open My Computer, right-click your C: Drive, Options, click the Tools Tab and click Defragment.

You could also buy more RAM which will speed up your PC, I'm not sure how much RAM you have at the moment, you can find out by (right-clicking My Computer) but I think Vista is heavy on RAM.

I suggest you take some of these steps and let me know how it goes.

I have just bought a used ASUS x53sr notebook from my good friend. I have used this comp many times at his house so I know it works fine. He got a new one and sold me this one. Problem is I format re-installed vista home basic and it is awful!! everything takes ages to load. every webpage, opening the start menu, listening to music. It freezes every 5 seconds when im online. and its a bloody nightmare. I read somewhere than the ATI radeon hd 2400 graphics drivers conflict with Vista so I un-installed them but that just made things worse as now i cant get back online for some reason to update the driver. I have 2 gig ram so thats not the issue, plus I dont have really any programs installed yet. Any ideas?

My MSI VR610 was extremely slow when connecting via the wireless connector. Some internet sites seemed to work almost fine so it reminded of the DNS related problem earlier reported here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929547 ) but after trying hard to get the patch Vista reported it was not necessary. Deinstalling Norton Internet Security and replacing with Comodo, even disabling the firewall, didn't help.
But updating the driver for the wireless adapter, Atheros AR5007EG, seems to have done the trick. (Just normal rightclick on This computer, properties, devices, rightclick Atheros netcard and choose update driver found the right one - ver. from 13. jan 2009)

One of my computers runs Vista Home Basic. For convenience, I had it set to automatically run Windows Update. I've got cable Internet connection.

A few weeks ago, I started to get VERY SLOW response time on the web on this computer. My older computer runs XP, and wasn't effected. I use both Firefox and IE. I'd click on a link to a website, and wait 30seconds to 1 minute or more for the site to come up. All the non-internet applications I use seemed to work properly.

I reloaded software, defragged, swapped out memory (I have 1gb RAM), swapped network connections (both computers are hard wired to the Internet through a router), etc. to no avail.

Then, I decided to do a System Restore to a restore point from about 2 weeks earlier. VOILA! Worked fine. However, I didn't turn off the automatic Windows Update. As soon as it updated, I had the same problem, so I re-restored and turned off Automatic Updates.

Anybody else have this problem? Have any idea which of the many updates may be giving me the problem? I don't mind doing updates manually, but I really don't want to go thru the process of loading the updates one-by-one to determine which one is giving me the problem. That would take like forever. Whether I do the updates automatically or manually doesn't matter to me, but I do want to keep the operating system updated.

A:Vista Home Basic Updates Make Internet Very Slow

If you can single out which particular update causes this, we may be able to figure out how to "fix" it. I'd suspect it's an update that doesn't play well with your drivers - and an update of the driver may fix it.

Here's the question --
I had a Dell Dimension IDE XP SP3 PC but the memory/motherboard is gone. I ordered a Dell Inspiron 530S that only has 1 320 Gb SATA drive. I have access to older Dimension PCs at the office, and could use some direction or web shortcuts on taking my old HD, which has XP Home SP3 and pictures and financials and resumes (Word '03) and adding that to a PC that can "see" my home PC hard drive as a secondary IDE drive so that I can copy files to a flash drive/CD to transfer to my new Dimension SATA/Vista Home SP1 drive. Thanks in advance for your response.

Hey there,

Basically I love gaming, and recently people have said to me that it would be a good idea to upgrade from Vista home basic, to Premium.

I tried checking the prices without much luck (Link directly from computer only shows US and Canada on country to buy it from list), so here are my questions.

Firstly does Premium give that much of a benefit to gaming on your computer, and secondly where can I buy the upgrade from (preferably cheap hehe)?

Here is the comparison chart at the Vista site:

This site is selling it for $80.00. I've bought software there in the past, and it's genuine.

I have recently purchased a new Acer Aspire 5535 laptop. It has Windows Vista Home Premium (WVHP) installed.

The computer came with a number of programs that I am not interested in having on my system. In addition, I was not provided a restore disc. I do own a copy of Windows Vista Home Basic (WVHB).

I would like to keep WVHP as I appear to be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 . . . but I would like to reinstall to get rid of all these worthless programs. Can I use a WVHB disc with my new WVHP product key?

Could I install WVHB with the WVHB product key, then use the WVHP key supplied by Acer to upgrade?

Thanks for your time in answering my question. I hope it isn't unclear.

You can contact MS to send you the x64 version, however you will also have to pay for the upgrade to the premium license.

I'm looking at a new Dell laptop for my wife to use. Her real interest is in having a webcam so she'll be able to see her new grandchild using Skype or similar. It will also be used for basic internet surfing.

The basic computer I'm pricing comes with Vista Home Basic but the Dell rep is telling me I should have Home Premium since it will be used with a webcam. I have a feeling I'm getting a sales pitch since we'll never use the computer for any advanced video producing and such. Do I need the Premium for an additional $30 or is the Basic sufficient?

Here are the basics of what the computer will have in case that helps:

Inspiron 1525
Intel? Pentium? Dual Core T2390 (1.86GHz/533Mhz FSB/1MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista? Home Basic Edition SP1
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
Size: 250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
CD / DVD Writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini-Card
Webcam Option
6 cell battery
High Definition Audio 2.0

Thanks for your help. Terry

A:Vista Home Basic or Home Premium?

I know of no reason why you would need Premium to support a webcam I think he may be spinning you a tale.

Check out this link to see the differences

The premium version will give you a better visual experience but I dont think it will make a difference in video as a better Graphics card would do.

But for your extra $30 you will get Windows media support and the overall visual look of the software if far better but this is not a neccesity

Buy Basic!

I have had transparency working twice with an aero msstyle file and/or a theme file but each time I needed to install WindowBlinds for it to work. After which I uninstalled WB and enjoyed the aero experience. So WindowBlinds automatically turns it on somehow. Due to their trial limitations I can't keep installing every time to kick start aero and it's a bit extravagant to pay for especially when my computer is capable without it. I need to know how to turn it on manually.

I've patched the system 32 files. Set the windows color scheme to Windows Vista Standard. I've enabled desktop composition via setting for best appearance. In the regedit DMV key I've set composition to 1, compostion policy to 2 and colorizationopaqueblend to 0, 1 and 2 (opinions on which # works differs so I tried all three) and it's still not worky. Does anyone know anything else that controls transparency? Of course Microsoft has generously disabled the transparency control in "Window Color and Appearance" on Vista Home Basic so that is not an option.

I would just use VistaGlazz but have never been able to run it on this computer. It crashes every time I open it.

Just bought a new desktop from Dell that was pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Basic, later wanted to upgrade to Windows Vista Business, so I bought the Windows Vista Business separately from the retail store and try to install it.

But halfway during the upgrade installation, an error message popped up and says that some files are corrupted or something, with error 0X80070017, and the upgrade was cancelled.

I have tried many times which included doing a clean install or installing during boot time, all lead to the same error.

The copy of Windows Vista that I bought was a genuine copy and the hardware should meet all requirements, it's a Pentium D 915, 1 GB RAM with 160GB HDD.

Can anyone please help? I need to get the desktop upgraded to Vista Business by this week.

There is not a separate download for Home Basic. The Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista, except Enterprise.

Long story short. I had to reinstall my Vista with installation disk that came with computer. I can't install anything. I tried internet explorer and chrome. I've done all updates. Also can't figure out how to get it to recognized the wireless I have set up. Not sure if this was the right board to post to, but I'm frustrated and don't know what to do.

Connect a Ethernet cable then do several Windows Updates. Don't know what SP level the disc you used is at but Vista has SP1, SP2 and 190+ updates you need to download and install. Once they are all done, most other things should work okay.

My inspiron 1525 has vista HB service pack 2

My wife received a windows 7 disc from microsoft can I install it on my laptop??

A:Vista home basic

run this program to see if your pc will support windows 7

having a disc is not a genuine installation, you need to have a Key , did you purchase W7 and get a Key with the Disk
is it a full installation or is it an upgrade disk ?

Ok. This is probably a stupid question. I was under the impression that I had SP1 installed with my Vista Home Basic. But, it appears that I have no service pack at all.

The question is, do I want to install sp1 or do I want to install sp2? Or, do I need to install sp1 and then sp2? Or, since I'm having no real problems without either, should I just leave things the way they are?

A:Vista Home Basic/SP???

Install SP1, then SP2 . . both offer improved perforamnce and security

I've attached the perfmon and Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 files.

A:BSoD Vista Home Basic

Perfmon reports that Windows Update is disabled. Please enable it and visit Windows Updates to get all available updates.

Systeminfo.txt reports that you don't have SP1 or SP2 installed. Please visit the PC Manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers, then visit Windows Update to get SP1, SP2, and any subsequent updates.

Both dump files blame oebdbmpi.sys - and a Google search for this driver doesn't reveal anything.
I'd suggest searching your system for this file. Once you find it, right click on it and select "Properties"
Then select the Details tab and let us know what you find there.
Then go to Jotti's malware scan and upload that file for scanning. Let us know the results of the scan.
