Hotmail account domain change

Q: Hotmail account domain change

Is is possible to change the domain name of a hotmail account?
I lived in the UK when I registered and got the [email protected] address but, as I have now moved, I would like to keep my address, just change it to .com.
Possible?
Cheers and thanks!

Preferred Solution: Hotmail account domain change

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just got married and my wife would like to change the name of her hotmail account, which has her maiden name as part of it, to contain her new last name. I'm not at all sure how--or in fact if--this can be done without simply opening a new account, but if we do that, she would lose her old emails, contacts, and so on. I'd be grateful for any help you guys could give me.

Michael

A:Wife would like to change name of hotmail account to married name

Suggestion--keep the old account, open a new one.

In the old account forward (new) messages to the new account and export the contact list to a csv file.

In the new account import the contact list from the csv file.

To get existing (old) messages to the new account probably requires manually forwarding each one. If she decides to just leave the old messages where they are she will have to login to the account every couple weeks or so or the messages will be deleted.

When I was installing and setting up WCP, I could not get it to recognize my Windows Live ID hotmail address (I don't know why), so I set it up with a new hotmail address. I figured "no big deal... I'll just set up a new hotmail account later and change my Windows Live ID to match it". Hah. Big mistake. Now I cannot get hotmail to give me that account name... it's already taken (yeah, I know... by me!)

This is a mess. How do I change the hotmail address on my administrator account to my old, original hotmail address? How do I do it? (And no, I do not want to just create a new user account on my PC)

I'm having a time format problem in my Hotmail account.

Basically, I'm in the UK but I created a US Hotmail account. This is causing a time problem. When it says I receive an email at 1pm UK time, when I check my inbox, it actually says I received it at 8am Eastern US time (it's always -5 hours).

I have put up with it, but it's getting a bit of a problem lately. Surely there is a way you can change the time format of you account? I honestly cannot see this option anywhere though. I mean, what if you were travelling out of the country? Surely, the option should be there to alter the time to the country you're in, etc?

Many thanks if you can help.

EDIT: Aha, I've figured it out. If I change my country/region to the UK, it sorts itself out =)

Sorry for the length of this post but I think it needs explaining.

I bought this laptop for a gift to my grandson about three years ago. Against my wishes, he has used it primarily to play high usage PC games. About 6 months ago it was hardly working anymore, viruses, malware, you name it.

I did a complete factory restore but he set it up to open with his hotmail user account on the "Lock Screen" in Windows 8.1, but he did give me his how hotmail email address and password so I can login. Well, within about two months later he had all the same issues back again and so he just quit using the laptop completely.

He gave it back to me and I cleaned everything up again (without doing a factory recovery) and also upgraded it from the original Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.

Everything is working perfectly, it's very fast now and I love it.

Only issue I can see is if he (my grandson) deletes or changes his hotmail account I won't be able to login and also his emails are available for me to read (but I don't) and I don't use his email account. I use a webmail account of my own.

As I mentioned earlier, this laptop is running and set up perfectly for me with this one exception.

Without doing a complete factory recover, how can I chnage this laptop from requiring his (my grandsons) hotmail address and password to no login being required at all (as I am the only user now) or to run with a local account (as I believe it is referred to)?

Hello,
Currently we are in the middle of a migration project. We are migrating users from child domains to the root domain of one organization.
The user accounts are migrated with powershell using Move-ADObject cmdlet. This works as expected. The SIDHistory attribute is updated correctly.
Recently we received complaints from some *migrated* users - they lost their default/custom file associations. This happens only on Windows 8/Windows 8.1.
What happens:

the user is migrated and logs onher profile loads and everything's preserved (as expected)the user clicks on a .jpeg file (previously associated with program XYZ)OS asks the user to choose a program to open the file withthe user chooses a default program XYZ and the file openswhen the user clicks on a .jpeg file again - OS asks to choose a program again

Our investigation shows that it is connected with the UserChoice registry key and the HASH value under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.SomeExt

According to this blog
the HASH is calculated based on user's SID. But after the migration the user has new SID and the HASH becomes invalid and we hit this:

Hi,
I have a Windows 8.1 system on a lap top that was used by a former employee. Her name was still on user name and I couldn't change it without Admin privileges (otherwise was asking for a smart card). Found out how to get in to admin in safe mode with Net
User Admin yes- then discovered that the old log in and information / desk top is no longer available. The docs are under Users (old employee's name) in C drive, but the docs and settings no longer show up and the admin log in is the only one available - no
option to change users.
When I went in and said Net User Admin no - thinking if I disabled admin user it would go back to the old log in -  there was no log in available at all.

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.

We have laptop computers that normally log into the AD domain, but also need to be able to allow users to log into the computer when the domain is not available  for authentication.
My issue is, I would like to harden the laptops against brute force login in the event the laptop were stolen.  Even though we have a domain-level policy that locks an account after three invalid login attempts, I am not finding a way to do that with
cached credentials when the computer is not on the domain.  The user does not have a locally defined account on the laptop, only cached domain credentials.
Limiting the number of cached logins does not address this particular situation that I have been able to find -- the computer still allows an unlimited number of incorrect guesses at the password, and once the correct password is entered, the account is
logged in.
This is Windows 7 Professional.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi,

Apologies in advance if this is not the right area. I was directed here by a Support Engineer in the

Microsoft Community forum. If this is not the right place, please let me know the best place to post this question.

The question presented on domain PCs after clicking 'Settings  > Change PC Settings > Accounts > Connect to a Microsoft account' is:

Which PC settings from your Microsoft account do you want to sync with your domain account?

The options are:

Start Screen
Appearance
Desktop personalization
Apps (list of apps you've installed)
Passwords (apps, websites, and networks)
App Data
Language Preferences
Ease of Access
Other Windows Settings
Web browser (open tabs, history, and favorites)

What I'm looking for is more information about all these options. For example, what is synced with a domain account when the 'App Data' or 'Other Windows Settings' boxes are checked? Those are very vague descriptions, and I'm trying to figure out
what exactly is synced when these options are selected.

Thanks!

I am a system administrator in a large enterprise environment and we are doing a rollout of Windows 8.1. In our image capture we somehow captured a setting that is disabling users from setting up a connected account with their domain account. I am relatively sure that it is in my unattend and I can fix it for machines going forward but I really don't want to have to reimage the machines I've already deployed.

When I go to connect an account, the "connect to a Microsoft account" option is grayed out and the "some settings are managed by your administrator" message is displayed at the top. This is NOT a group policy object that is applying. The machines are in a test OU and there is absolutely no policy applied. I have searched all through local policy and even did a search through the registry for "account" (that took forever) but have been unable to find any registry key or local policy that would be causing this issue.

Does anyone have any idea what setting might be causing this?
Any help is greatly appreciated as I have 30+ machines already out in the environment and the user experience is going to be terrible if I have to reimage them all.

A:Unable to connect microsoft account to domain account

This is a copy from a technet forums...I haven't seen this issue myself...but it may point you in the right direction.

There is a policy for this:
It's Administrative Templates\Windows Components\App Runtime > Allow Microsoft Accounts to be optional
In 2012, 2012 R2 there is an option in CompConfig\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options that reads "Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts"
If you don't have 2012 or 2012R2 then you can RSAT from a Windows 8 box and change the settings that way

I found that I can change the registry setting for ProfileImagePath in order to point it to the old profile. One thing that this doesn't seem to do is to reference the outlook profile that is on their local account. Is there a way to move this profile without having to just recreate it on the new domain account? Is there an easier way of moving everything in general?

So this is probably the strangest problem I have ever encountered with Windows 7. About two or three months ago, I noticed that my user account had suddenly changed into a guest account. I get prompted for an administrator password when trying to do any tasks that require administrator privilege. It is not a huge hassle, as I know the administrator account password.

Here is where it becomes very strange. When I turn my computer on, it automatically logs me into my user account (the guest account). When I got into the user accounts section of the control panel and try to manage user accounts, it shows exactly zero user accounts on my computer. Also, when I try to change my user account (the guest account) to an administrator account, precisely nothing happens.

It gets evens stranger. When I log out of Windows, the only user account I can pick from, to log back into Windows, is the generic "Administrator" account. My user account is nowhere to be found. When I go to the control panel and try to manage accounts, only the administrator account is listed. There is an option turn on a generic guest account, but nothing related to my original user account is shown. Again, this is in contrast to when I am logged into my user account (the guest account), and see exactly zero user accounts listed on the manage accounts screen.

Hello everybody,

I have realized that all the laptops I installed Windows 10 in the last year (several family laptops) are running with Microsoft-Accounts which are Admin-Accounts. Now I read that this is a serious security issue. I would like to change these MS-Admin-Accounts into MS-Limited-User-Accounts?

But how?

And next question: Should I set up for every laptop then a local admin-account?

Thanks a lot for your help.

A:Windows 10: How change account from admin into limited user account?

As long as you have not disabled UAC, User Account Control, or invoked the hidden full administrator, then your users are actually running as standard users and will be prompted before performing any Admin level tasks - you can if you wish create a standard user on each of the systems in addition to the administrator, but this will not provide much better security and is likely to generate complaints from the users as they will have to set-up the accounts again to how they want them.

I have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the conten/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile. I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?

A:Merge Domain User Account with Local User Account

There are 4 conventional ways of accomplishing this task.

Option 1: Simply copy My Documents, Favorites, Desktop items from one to the other. You will have to setup program options again, may or may not be a big deal

Option 2: Use the Windows Easy Transfer option. Explained here. Vista & Win7 local to domain profile migration

Option 3: Use the Copy To Feature in User Profiles, explained here: Copy a user profile. The steps are outlined for different versions of Windows, but they work the same in Windows 8.

Hi,

We are creating a PDF file in login user's local application folder (C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\folder1) through a custom .Net application and displaying the created pdf file in application.

The above functionality is working for users who are part of domain and added to local vista machine as users (both for administrator and standard user accounts).
The same is not working for local users (both administrator and standard user accounts created in vista box).

File is getting created for any user under their local appdata folder and can able to open from that location, but not displaying from app in case of local system users (admin or standard type).

Can anyone help me what security settings differ between domain users vs local users in vista business 32 bit OS?

Thanks

A:domain account user vs local account user in vista

Policy that is actually causing the problem (or lack thereof) is corresponds to Internet Options control panel, Connections tab, Lan Settings button: Use Automatic Configuration settings.
Having this turned on causes IE to load a configuration file prepared by IT department which makes a whole lot of configuration changes to IE, including remapping the security zones. We can test this by unchecking this option (the default state).
Since the machine is in domain and since we are testing with domain users accounts, I have monitored domain controller pushing down a bunch of policy settings which relax the IE security settings, causing the reports to display.
First, domain settings will resync over time and this checkbox will keep getting turned back on automatically. So you can?t really turn this off, it won?t stay off. I would feel better just testing local accounts, but since the computer is also a member of the domain, machine-specific policies are applied by the domain as well.

A:How do I change between Microsoft account and local account?

You would most likely need a Pro version of Windows 8 if they use a Domain.  Then you would need to talk to your IT person, to allow your machine on the company network.  As for your question, you do it from the Profile in the Metro Screen.  This actual question that you posted is in the FAQ on microsoft.com for the Windows 8 page.

Hi all.

I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition and I would like to use my current account as a Limited user account.

I realise that I will need at least one administrator account on my PC -- so I go into user accounts, create a new administrator account, then I try to change my current account to a limited account, but it will not let me!

See the screenshots;

I would like Admin to be administrator, and Dell07 to be Limited... I do not have the option to change Dell07 to limited for some strange reason.

I have managed to do this on my parents PC easily. I simply created another Administrator account, then changed their account to a limited one. I don't understand why this will not work on Windows XP MCE...

Any idea why this is happening?!

A:Help change my account to a limited user account!

You should log-on to the administrator account thru safe mode and this will allow you to change the account you want to so it will be a low-admin account. You can not change the account you are logged into t anything other than the account it is because it is the active account.

Hello all,

First post for me -- glad to have found this site. Extremely useful !!!

I've recently noticed that I've lost adminstrator account priviledges on both my laptops. I've got Windows 7 Home Premium edition. When I am logged in to my original account, which was set up as an Administrator account, and I go to Change Account Type, the "Standard User" button is active. When I click on the Administrator Account button to change it, the Apply button becomes greyed out. I have two accounts that were set up as Administrator and both show the same thing. Curiously, the account icons that show up on the login screen and on the control panel screens still carry the label "Administrator". Maybe this is normal for Windows 7, but if so, very confusing.

What I've tried so far:

1) Activated the built-in Administrator account, logged into it, tried to elevate the two accounts to Administrator with the same results above (becomes greyed out when I click on the Administrator account type button).
2) Ran virus/spyware scans using SpywareDoctor, Malwarebytes, and Windows Security Essentials. No serious threats found other than the cookies, etc. on SpywareDoctor scan. Malwarebytes and Security Essential scans were clean.
3) Started up in safe mode -- same result.

I originally noticed the problem due to the fact that Itunes would not update -- gave me the message that I didn't have administrator proviledges even though I was lo... Read more

I recently logged onto my account about 2 days ago to finish a project. The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. I went to Control Panel because I was sure I was an Administrator, but sure enough, I was set as a Standard User. I tried changing it up but it wouldn't change. I tried changing the account name also, and it wouldn't change. I could only change account picture. I can't open UAC, I click it and it blinks but nothing opens.

I went online and tried these suggestions:

I deleted any recent program installations,
I booted in safe mode, however I was still not able to change my account,
I tried activating the hidden administrator account but I received an "access denied" message,
I tried creating a new account but I received the following message:

"The specified account name is not valid, because account names contain the following characters: /\[]":;|<>=+,?*

Please type a different name."

I didn't use any of those characters in the account name.
I ran 2 different virus scans, and they came up with nothing,
I turned the computer off, unplugged everything, and pressed the power button for 30 seconds, and rebooted, but still nothing!

My roommate shares this computer with me, and her account is still an administrator. However she has traveled and I haven't been able to get hold of her yet. We share music files and the file I ... Read more

I currently am operating ACER laptop and running windows XP.

I've got a hotmail account which is accessible through Outlook, and runs completely fine. I have a private domain email address that is linked to my hotmail account, so both emails to both addresses are recieved in the same inbox - but i want the private domain to be what is viewed as the 'from adress' through outlook?

when i use outlook the 'from' address is my hotmail one.

and when i use hotmail the 'from' address is from my 'private domain' on behalf of 'hotmail address'

I want the private domain set up in outlook, but cant find the options to have that, and link it to the already set up hotmail account.

I run Outlook 2007 Academic version, and mircosoft outlook connector.

thanks

So I recently added a new system running x86 windows 7 to the network, and when I log out or shut down using a local account, everything works as it should. If I log on to one of the user domain accounts, however, these actions don't work. Instead, the start menu and icons disappear and I'm left with the desktop background indefinitely.

Unplugging the network cable and plugging it back in then makes the system proceed to regular log out / shut down procedures, but I'm not sure why... Any ideas on some setting that is mis-set?

Also, this only seems to happen the first time I attempt to log out or shut down since the last reboot. So, if I log in to a domain account and try to log out, it will do this "freeze". Then, I unplug the network cable and plug it back in, and then the system logs out of the account. If I then log back in and try to log out again, it will work fine. But if I reboot the machine, the problem returns.

Hello,
I'm not sure where to start with this one. I have a web server with two nics installed. One nic goes out to the internet the other nic is connected to my internal network. I didn't want to install FTP on the web server. So what I would like to do is share the folder to the local web admin can update the website. But how can I put some security on that shared folder? I was hoping to just add that user account permissions to that folder but it's not in the same domain. Would it be bad to put the web server on my internal domain? Any help or thoughts on this would be great.

Thanks,
Tony

Ok, in our company we have aprox 1400 employees..
We have multiple Domain Controllers, and 1 Primary Domain... as well as exchange & Lync server and multiple locations with shares and etc..

We also run through Iprism web filter, that requires a user to go to a site like google.com etc.. to get authenticated etc.. before regular web browsing will work etc..

We have windows 7 32 bit & 64 mixed in the environment (no XP machines)

Also through GP we have 10 invalid login attempts will lock the user AD account... also require password change every 45 days

We have been (for about 2 or 3 months now) seeing a higher than normal amount of accounts getting locked for what seems to be no reason.. we have Netwrix Acocunt Lock Examiner installed, which tells us what PC the lock is happing at, and what DC is reporting
the wrong passwords etc.. but does not tell us what item is causing it.. especially when the user is doing nothing but regular work and is not entering their password in anything.. also when we search logs etc.. there is nothing substantial, no saved credentials,
no scheduled tasks, mapped drives are set with GP no by local user..

We are at our wits end on this...

in our whole company it seems that we have about 8 people that are locked almost everyday (and most do not have mobile devices with E-mail either)

The pc's have having the issue seem to have 2 things in common..
1. they all seem to have Office 2013
2. the all have a... Read more

I access my 3 hotmail account via Outlook express. I was having trouble sending emails from one account, they were being returned. I found out what the problem was thru this forum.

http://forums.techguy.org/t183016&highlight=hotmail+charging+pop3.html

OK, so I signed up for Hotmail Plus, and registered with one of my hotmail email address's. How do I add my other two hotmail address's to the hotmail plus account? Seem's to me, only one hotmail account is going to work with OE right now, until I let MSN know the other 2 hotmail accounts.

Any solutions?

Thanks

A:Hotmail plus account.

I just got off a live chat with someone at MSN. You only get to use one free Hotmail account with each Hotmail Plus account. So, for those of you with multiple hotmail accounts using OE, its back to the drawing board.

Could you explain The account policies that govern your use of Hotmail are detailed in our Online Help. Please note that you must sign into your Hotmail account at least once every 30 days. If you do not, your account will become inactive. After being inactive for 90 days, it will be deleted. You may want to save this message so you always have a handy link to this important information.
Example if I have a Hotmail address [email protected] and I do not sign in Hotmail account explain if I do not my account will become inactive. After being inactive for 90 days, it will be deleted so I will not beable to get my [email protected] back again

A:Hotmail account ?

sportman10,

From Hotmail Help page - Close Account:
If you don't sign in for 30 days (or within the first 10 days), your account will become inactive. At that time, any messages in your account will be deleted and inbound e-mail will be refused. Your Passport will still function, and your Hotmail e-mail name will be reserved. If your account stays inactive for a further 90 days, it is permanently deleted, and your e-mail name is no longer reserved. Click to expand...

My email address ends in @Hotmail.com.I receive emails with no problems, when I compose a new email or forward
on emails, more times than not I get the error message "Can`t connect to Outlook please try later"with a CLOSE button.
When I click CLOSE the message is "You are about to throw away these messages without sending them".The only option
then is CONTINUE.The messages always show in the "sent" folder, some get to the receipient and some don`t.
Any idea whats going on?
Regards.

A:Hotmail account

Are you logging into the account by way of web browser or by the new Mail app? For older WLM and Hotmail as well as Live accounts you would want the Windows Essentials 2012 over the new Mail app.

Logging in directly online you would add the destination is as a new contact if not already in your address book there so the emails being sent will go through. I find that every time I go to send an email out to a new contact and forget to add the address in first as a new contact the draft will be saved. I see that with both the old Live accounts as well as at times with the accounts at outlook.com
