I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday I installed a Samsung 950 pro 256gb m2 pcie nvme ssd into a Dell E7270
Older configuration was with a sandisk regular sata 3 ssd. After replacement did a bios reset twice, once factory reset, once custom. (I left sata on ahci.)
I chose to install windows 10 pro x64 by using the uefi/gpt methode. Legacy options off.
Installation went without a problem. Afterwards I installed the Samsung nvme driver 1.4.7.17.
Also the Samsung magician software. It reports a link speed 8Gbps (is ok), link width 16 Gbps (should be 32?) .
Is there a way to change the pcie link width from 2x to 4x? I thought this ultrabook did support x4.

comment would be appreciated :-)  Thanks in advance!

Hello,My understanding is that both the T460p and T470p support PCIe 3.0 x2 via their SATAe SSD connector. The T470p has an adapter on which an M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive can be connected and get speeds higher than SATA.  The T460p on the other hand only has this one Toshiba SATAe drive to improve on SATA speeds, and that is limited to 256GB, it is rare and cancels the WAN port for further storage. So, can the adapter from the T470p be used in the T460p? This would solve all problems for the T460p, higher speed and good capacity. Thanks

Hi, otheosyou wrote:> it ... cancels the WAN port for further storage.the combo m.2 wwan/ssd slot isn't assocoiated with main 2.5" slot for HDD/SSD, it's a separate slot. Hi, the PSREF document for the T480 mentions that the M.2. 2280 SSD slot has 4 PCIe lanes (see http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20T480/ThinkPad_T480_Platform_Specificatio...). However the german site campuspoint.de who sells campus models of the T480 states that the M.2 2280 SSD slot in this model (unlike the T480s) is limited to 2 PCIe lanes, just as on the previous T470. I wanted to be sure and asked them, and here is their reply: We were stumbling over the same point in the PSREF. The difference to the former Models like T470 and T570 made us suspicious, since the new models use a very similar Adapter. So, we made a simple test. We took a T580 with a Samsung PM981 SSD, which should be able of up to 3200 Mb/s of read performance and made a simple benchmark. Our test showed a read performance of roughly 1800 Mb/s at max. This is about the same score as we had with the T470 and T570 Models and just slightly under what is theoretically possible with two PCIe Lanes. It looks like Lenovo just didn?t mention the restriction by the Adapter. This has nothing to do with Campus Models or not. The Campus Models use the same parts as used in other Thinkpad models. As you mentioned the T480s doesn?t have this issue.  Can Lenovo confirm there is a mistake in the PSREF of the T480 and T580 with respect to the number of lanes for the M.2 2280 SSD slot?

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. up until windows preview build 14986, the pcie driver "Mobile 6th Generation Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #5 - 9D14" (v10.1.1.27) correctly detects the "Standard NVM Express Controller" storage controller and the Toshiba THNSN5512GPU7 NVMe disk attached to it. starting with windows preview build 15002 (and 15007), the included pcie driver has troubles detecting the storage controller - during bootup, it is detected 4 times, with each time on a different device id. subsequently, the drive is also added 4 times, resulting in boot controller errors & timeouts and failed sleep mode/shutdowns. the included chipset driver in these latest builds seem to have been bumped to v10.1.1.33. the problem can easily be replicated by using unmodified recovery boot usb sticks made from the official isos, and then checking in a recovery console. it is thus not related to anything installed in my system.

Hi, for L390 yoga i7 I've ordered the 128gb version and I want to put a 1gb nvme in it. I've read the spec sheet, it says the 128gb comes with 2242 PCI x2, with the 256/512gb suppiled with a 2280 PCI x4. I guess the 2242 is held in with an adaptor as per the service manual so I just take that out and off I go. Now is the x2 or x4 the actual drive, or is it the actual m.2 PCI BIOS that is limited PCI x2? I'm thinking as its a custom build, it would come with same m.2 PCI slot on all models, does anyone have any idea or has anyone remove the 128gb to replace it with something larger. Thanks

Hi

I am confused. Very confused as a matter of fact.

I would like to upgrade my PC with a m.2 drive but do not want to buy the wrong one and waste my money.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte H97-D3H. It has a m.2 slot and the manual states that it has a Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA & PCIe SSD support. I note that the term NVME IS NOT present in the description. On Newegg web site, I note that some M.2 drives have the term NVME in the description and some others do not (only show PCIe x 4).

My question is simple:
Can I buy ANY M.2 drive whether the term NVME is present in the description or not ? If the PCIe support is the same for PCIe and NVME (assuming it is), why doesn't my manual shows NVME in the description (it only shows socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA & PCIe SSD support) ?

Can anyone shed some light ? Boy !! Boy !!! Am I ever confused...I want to make sure I do not buy an incompatible drive.

Thank You

Self-encrypting SSDs such as the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 PCIe-NVMe as well as other 2.5" formats allow for a password for drive encryption to be enabled from within the BIOS. There seems to be a problem with enabling that function with the 950 Pro. Another forum member has a P70 with a 950 Pro as the boot-drive and a Samsung 850 2.5" SSD as a data-drive. When in the BIOS to enable HDD (SDD) password(s) the 850 is listed while the 950 is not. According to Samsung, the 950 Pro has "AES 256-bit for user data encryption". Has anyone been able to enable the HDD (SDD) drive-encryption password of a Samsung 950 Pro OR any of the Lenovo furnished PCIe-NVMe M.2 drives within their BIOS settings? Of note, once enabled, upon start-up the BIOS will ask for the password of each drive with a password enabled before proceeding to the OS. Lack of this capability within the P70 for a PCIe-NVMe M.2 SSD in the 512GB capacity range is a deal-breaker for the P70 that I would like to order. Any thoughts or suggestions pertaining to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I have an M920 SFF, i7-8xxx 32GB RAM, came with 256gb SSD already installed and used as the boot drive (C) for Windows 10 Pro. It was a special price deal ($300 off), even with a 256gb SSD which is smaller than I really need.   I took the deal and figured I will add a second drive once I get the computer.      Opening the computer, I see it has the primary boot drive (SSD) occupying a slot, and a network card occupying the second slot, seems like adding a second drive would have to be either SATA, or using one of the two PCIe slots.    I bought a 500GB Crucial P1 NVMe M.2 SSD, https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07J2WBKXF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and put it into a NVMe-to-PCIe adapter,  this is the one I bought https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07C6D1W2N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1  Then I tried inserting it into one of the 2 slots, the PC didn't recognize it, then tried the other slot, also wasn't recognized.   So is this method of installing the SSD (even as a secondary non-booting drive) not supported.  Do I need to configure the BIOS or need other drivers?

Allow me to briefly describe my situation & questions: Last week: We got the laptop but upon first boot I've ran into:"2104 Detection Error on SSD2 (M.2) Press Esc to Continue."Side-Effects of this errors were- the BIOS boot menu not showing the NVMe1 disk type, and- Windows device/partition manager not seeing the disk. Obviously there is a problem with the second SSD.So we opened a ticket at Lenovo. 4 days later, today, I did get the replacement 1TB SSD PCIe NVMe disk. Some transport guy handing me the disk, taking off. The error is gone, but the disk is still not recognized.Swapping it with slot0 NVMe0, which holds my OS, correctly shows disk info at boot menu.So the replacement disk is OK, but still not recognized. - is it expected of the customer (us) to do this disk swap ourselves (under warrenty, dead on arrival)?- is this the issue with SAMSUNG & BIOS & UEFI (v1.35 End December 16) ... ? https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Can-I-add-a-Samsung-950-Pro-NVMe-SSD-to-...- Can someone give me advice on how to proceed? Seems like updating the Lenovo ticket has no effect, ... Read more

A:P50 with dual "1 TB SSD PCIe-NVMe" config

Very disappointing, clearly shouldn't happen but sometimes does.  Manufacturing quality control is not always what it should be. From your description, I assume you do not have the Onsite warranty support service. I'd call Tech Support directly and demand immediate "escalation" -- speak to a supervisor or manager, if necessary.  Perhaps they can arrange for a tech to come out with another replacement part and troubleshoot the problem. You shouldn't have to threaten to return the machine for a refund/replacement but that is an option as well. Please keep us apprised of progress.

Hello, I need to add a "Samsung 960 PRO Series - 1TB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD" on my Thinkpad. What is the P/N I need to install it? I think is the tray to insert the disc. THINKPAD P51 SIGNATURE EDITION - Intel Core i7 - 7700 HQ - CPU @2.80 GHz - 16 GB - Windows 10 - 64 bits

Can I install PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD drive in my HP OMEN 15-ax033dx Laptop? Or an Optane drive?

A:Re: Can I install PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD drive in my HP OMEN 15-a...

You should be able to install it in your notebook. An HP Expert colleague of mine has an Omen 15ax251  product loan and he was able to install a 512 gig Samsung PM961 NVME M.2  SSD in his. We have discovered that not all of the Omen motherboards have an M.2 slot. I recommend that you check yours before ordering the SSD. Here is a link to the remove and replace videos.https://h20574.www2.hp.com/results.htm?SID=10862325&MEID=56302E24-377B-429D-AE4F-1D654C0CF807
