Photoshop not working in Windows 10

Q: Photoshop not working in Windows 10

Windows forced an upgrade to 10 this afternoon and suddenly I'm unable to use Photoshop 5.5. (Yes, I know it's an old program but it had no issues in Windows 8.1) The program will simply not open.

I can't afford a new version of PS, the one I have fits my needs, and I'm bordering on furious that it's not working due to this upgrade I did not want.

Is there any way to get to the program to work in 10? If not, I want to know how I can roll back to my previous version of Windows since I am incredibly unhappy with the OS so far.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I installed Photoshop 7.0 about 6 months ago with Windows 7, 64-bit operating system. It successfully installed and I have been using it with no issues. Over this weekend, it just stopped working and I get the following error:

"Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."

I have uninstalled Photoshop and tried to reinstall it but still have the same issue.

A:Photoshop 7.0 stopped working with Windows 7, 64-bit

mreese,

1.Have you tried using one of your System Restore points PRIOR to your current problem occurring?

System Restore

2.Have you checked in Event Viewer?

To check for problems you need to do the following.

Event viewer.

Quote:
Type eventvwr in search and go to the windows log>application tab.
Look for errors that have red in the left hand column that say anything relating to the CURRENT problem.
When you find any make a screenshot and upload them to us.

From your description of which programs won't open, you didn't include Adobe. However, you're getting an Adobe error message. Or, are you saying this happens when you try to launch Adobe?

You said you tried to reinstall. What did you try to reinstall?

Hi, I have a Lenovo W530 on which I reinstalled Windows 7 and lenovo softwares and drivers from scratch. Everything works well but for a very annoying detail: The ctrl+shift+s photoshop keyboard shortcut is not longer responding. It was working just before I did the re-install of Windows with the same photoshop installation package I have tried the following without success:- Installing Windows 10 and all the drivers/software and Photoshop (Decided I didn't like it as my PC was running 10 degrees celcius hotter)- re-installing the keyboard driver from the lenovo website on my fresh Windows 7 install- Switching fn/ctrl keys in the bios back and forth- Running Windows troubleshooter- There are no failing processes/services/exe in the reliability monitor nor in event viewer What works:- other keyboard shortcuts work well in photoshop- assigning another keyboard shortcut to save as in photoshop allows works Well it is minor, but bugging me!

Ahh, back again for more computer troubles. Apologies if this is in the wrong thread.

So, I'm really confused as to how three things have suddenly stopped working out of the blue. My tablet was working perfectly fine earlier, until I restarted my computer. The driver automatically crashes after start up, even after updating the driver. I have also noticed that Windows Photo Viewer and Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 also crash as soon as they're started up.

Any idea how I can fix these sudden problems? It's really frustrating that I can't draw, open photos, OR use Photoshop all of a sudden. Nothing was changed as far as I know for them to stop working.

Hi,

My brother recently installed CS4 on my computer, a HP Pavillion HDX, but I have a problem whenever I open photoshop on it. The photos look tiled and have lines all over them.

Here's a screenshot

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/2415/examplea.jpg

I'm not too sure what sub forum this goes on, so I am putting it on this one as I am running Vista service pack 2.

A:Photoshop CS4 isn't working

Are you able to view the pictures with Windows Photo Gallery. If so ,this would rule out any problem with the .jpg file.

The only other thing would be a botched install. You could try to uninstall then reinstall. To uninstall go to <control panel/programs/uninstall program/Adobe Photoshop CS4>. You simply click on the setup.exe file in the zip folder to reinstall.

If all else fails, here is an Adobe Photoshop forum: http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa

So I finally get my new computer in, which is running on my new 64-bit Vista. I install my favorite program, Photoshop CS3, and decide to try it out a bit. It works just fine. Then I decide to install my tablet which comes included with all my photoshop plug-ins.

This is where everything gets awesome. As I'm starting back up Photoshop I get hit with this.

If you notice, it freezes right as the plug-ins are being put in. I found out that the life-ruining box invading my startup is called DEP. So I tried to disable it going through the command prompt. Everything happened the way it was supposed to happen. I got some sort of success message, and when I checked the DEP status it said that it was disabled. So I try to start up photoshop again. Still, it pops up. I restart my computer after disabling it again. Still, it pops up. If I'm about to hear that I can't use Photoshop with plug-ins because of this 64-bit crap, I'll send my computer back right now.

Is there anything I can possibly do to get this to work?

Hello CouldBeJesus,

Welcome to the forums.

You can disable DEP for a particular program by going to the start menu/control panel (classic view). Click on 'advanced system settings'. Under 'Performance' click settings. 'Data Execution Prevention' tab. There is a warning in the help files that this 'could' allow a virus to enter the computer through the program. It also suggests looking for an update to your program before disabling. Hope it works.

I have a Pentium 4 3Ghz with 1 MB ram running XP SP2.

I had loaded Adobe Photoshop 5.0 from an original CD a few months ago. It used to
work well. As of a few week's ago, it does not work. It shows a message "Unable
to load PSUT9532.dll Photoshp will not be able to support 16bit plu-ins. Continue
launching Y/N? If I tried to continue, it puts up a blank window and frees. The
strange thing is psut9532.dll exists in the program files/ adobe photoshop directory.

I uninstalled the program. When I used the CD now to re-install, it does not work.
The set-up.exe does not run at all.

The issue is repeatable on two computers I have that run XP. One other computer
I have with Windows ME, adobe photoshop 5.0 runs fine and the set-up CD loads fine
also.

My theory is that there was an recent update to XP lately that caused this incompatibility?
Out of ideas and confused! I would like to photo editing back without spending a
lot for an upgrade.

A:PhotoShop 5.0 stopped working with XP

I would download a good copy of the DLL and replace all instances of it on your computer after a full search. Keep the old ones in the recycle bin so you at least can trace where they came from and restore them if other programs have problems. There are many sites like this: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/P/Psut9532.dll/3.0.42/download.html

Windows has a sharing system for utility files like DLLs. It should be a simple matter of the first program that installs a particular file being the only repository and other programs share that one. It never seems to work exactly as I anticipate. Photoshop may or may not be using the one in the folder. And that DLL might or might not have been removed and reloaded when you uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Another approach is to uninstall, remove the Photoshop folder and then reinstall. That will probably put a good version of the DLL on the computer.

It would also seem that a DLL starting with ps would be used only for Photoshop. That is probably true but you can’t count on that either. Search didn’t’ find it on my C drive at all, so CS must be using a different method of running 16 bit.

Hello,
Recently while I am working with Photoshop (CS4 64-bit) the window appears saying "Photoshop has stopped working". Once the program crashes I can't re-open it because the same "stopped working" windows appears on start-up. I haven't been using any other software but the same problem twice appeared with MS Word.
I bought computer 2 weeks ago so I don't want to re-install Windows after such short time.

This problem seems to appear after I installed Wacom Intuos 4 tablet. I tried to uninstall Wacom drivers and install older ones but it didn't seem to have effect or I didn't uninstall all Wacom drivers. I is hard to say coz Device manager often doesn't show all Wacom drivers installed.

Do you have any suggestions to this problem?

A:Photoshop CS4 stopped working

If this problem is happening with Word and now CS4 that's an indication with an impending problem with the system. If the system is still under warranty you might have the service department look it over.

By the way what version of Word are you using?

Also can you provide us some system specs?

Thanks.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.
Checking on the web it appears many people have had this problem with various Elements versions but no-one seems to have come up with a solution.
Can anyone help please.

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance.

Using Photoshop 7.01 for Windows, I cannot do now what I have done hundreds of times before: add Type to an image.

Old images with type can be edited with no problem. But with all new files created, the type does not appear on the image. (I have been in the RGB mode).

The only possible cause of the problem (that I can think of) is that I have been using InDesign recently, and perhaps (in InDesign) I have changed the color mode in repsonse to a dialogue box.

I'm perplexed and anxious-- I need my Type Tool to work!.

Suggestions deeply appreciated.

--RB

A:Photoshop 7 -- Type Tool Stopped Working

Iíve never had InDesign mess with my PS settings.

In the toolbar are the little boxes arranged with the black box upper left and the white box lower right? Or is the type color you have selected in the upper left box. If the white is in the upper left you print white. The two tiny boxes below and to the left will switch it back if you just want black and white. The double arrows above and to the right will swap the background and foreground.

I hope it is as simple as that.

Okay, I don't know how this happened. One second it's working fine, the next, I get this error. I go to preview my image in the browser, so I click "Save for Web." The "Save for Web" screen comes up, along with all the options for things that I can adjust. Then I go to click the Internet Explorer "e" button to get the actual preview, and I get this error message that says: "The operation could not be completed because a file by that name already exists."

I have no idea what that has to do with me previewing a file. I've always been able to preview images in the browser, but now it's giving me this error. I tried re-installing PS7, but it doesn't change the problem. I've also refreshed my PS7 prefs file. I honestly have no idea why this is happening, as I said it was working just fine one second, then the next, this happened. If anyone has ever experienced this problem, or knows how to correct it, please let me know!

Thanks,

N00b here; please correct me if I do something wrong. =D

My dad and I recently just about completely overhauled my computer; installed the OS from scratch and replaced the motherboard (actually, I think everything got replaced except for a hard drive, but I'm not sure).

But I installed Photoshop 7.0 (from the same CD as I installed it on my other machine) and it's doing weird things. I don't get any error messages or anything, but the color display is wrong. Such as the color picker and every color image (amusing as it would be for Legolas to be green, seeing as he is an elf, that picture is simply not supposed to be that way). Note how Blue hills.jpg is PINK. Yeah. I have NOT messed with any of the color settings - it's all at default, and it's doing this.

Also, when I try to install the 7.0.1 update, it will find the folder that Photoshop 7.0 is in, yet when I click "Next" for it to actually install, it says, "The Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 Update program cannot find Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\ -- Please attempt to locate Adobe Photoshop 7.0 again or cancel the update and install Adobe Photoshop 7.0 from the original disks or CD."

Hey all, thanks ahead of time for taking a look!

I've had this problem with Adobe Photoshop Extended (CS4 Version 11.0) and Microsoft Paint for about a month now. Anytime I try to "save" or "save as" with either of these programs, Vista produces the "[Photoshop or Paint] has stopped working - Windows is checking for a solution" error. It then, after maybe 15 seconds or so, says "[Photoshop or Paint] has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

This happens when I try to save ANYTHING on either of these programs, but it is restricted to only these two programs. Everything else, including all Microsoft Office software and even irfanview, which is another image editing software, work flawlessly. I do not believe that I downloaded any software prior to this problem. I've searched all over the internet for a solution but I can only find people having trouble saving as JPGs, but I cannot save at all with these programs, normally I can find someone who has solved the same problem and I follow their steps but this has absolutely stumped me. We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

Hi! I support two people with two different learning styles. One uses Photoshop CS2 and the other knows Photoshop Elements.

Will there be an issue for the two of them to collaborate on image edits if they each use the photoshop version with which they are comfortable?

Thanks!

If they have any experience..... Nope...

especially if it's a newer version of Elements

I've been having performance issues between the Windows 7 side of my dual boot system and the Win8 side. And Windows 7 consistently out performs Windows 8.

In Nova Bench for example I have a dozen or more Win8 (Pro) tests in the 600-700 range, I can tweak the results a bit by adjusting the multiplier for my CPU or using the "extreme" setting in ASUS's Ai Suite for OCing. But the difference is clear, Nova Benchmarks for this same hardware running in Win7 (Home Premium) are about 50% better with scores consistently in the 900-1080 range. 1080 is my high water mark. Win8's best score is 823, with many scores in the 650 range.

Then I decided to get real.

I set up my real world test. I sometimes take a series of photo's and then use Adobe Element's Panoramic feature to stitch the images into one wide panorama. The images are all large megapixels to begin with (e.g. about 40M each) and the resulting panorama can be well in excess of 150M so we are talking big pictures.

I tested the system with the hardware BIOS settings the same and went to ASUS's Ai Suite to check to make sure the settings were the same for Win8 and Win7. I also checked in on AMD's Vision Control Center to ensure that all of the settings there were the same. Same hardware, same settings.

The tests - one used four images, the other six. These were the same images, drawn from the same hard drive. The images were not on the same hard drive as the OS or the program.

PS4 is not directly compatible with XP, but I guess you could always try running it under Application Compatibility mode. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid that the only real choice is to upgrade to the latest version of PS.

Hi
I have been using Photoshop for years and am happy with CS2. My computer died a death and I lost all my data etc including Photoshop, which I could not deactivate.

I now want to install it on a laptop using Windows 7. I have asked Adobe and have been told their Chat support will take me through the steps. Basically I need to know how to unlock the product in order to obtain a challenge code. After some 4 hrs we are getting nowhere and ! feel this is a ploy to have me buy the latest version!............

Is there anyone out there who is using Photoshop CS2 with Windows 7? Did they have a problem or was the install straightforward?

Grateful for any comments.

I'm trying to get PS4 to work on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Based on previous advice in this forum I copied PS4 into my x86 folder, but when I try to run it I get the following message:

Your Adobe Photoshop Elements username, organization or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit.

Any suggestions?

Why not just run the 32 bit version?

I have just loaded PS6 into my new HP with windows 8. My problem is that I am not able to open any photos with photoshop. They show up on the menu bar and I can see the photo thumbnail in the layers section. I get an error message that says my photos are hidden and I need to change the settings" I have tried everything. Lightroom is working just fine.

Is there a progrom that will use the microphone and allow you to control your computer?

Examples:

When you clap the screen turns on (like when you go idle)
Program it so when you say "Start Photoshop" photoshop starts running
Clap twice to turn off
Say "Play Techno", plays the techno playlist you have created under iTunes

Other Ideas:

When you say "submit" it will click the submit button on the current active page (like in IE)

*I currently have a computer that has voice recognition software built in (its a fujitsu tablet pc running Windows Xp Tablet Edition), but I basically use it as my desktop as of now and it's hooked up to a 20" monitor, and has a built in microphone and wireless card.

A:*Clap*=monitor turns on, "Photoshop" = Photoshop starts up

I read something about x10 for Macs, but I'm running xp. Anything similar, but used strictly on the computer?

I am having an issue with Photoshop CS6 x64 on Windows 8 and memory use. I am doing a time-lapse vid at the moment and chose to use Photoshop to align images of Old Faithful that were (unfortunately) hand held, and then create the video from there.

While working on this, I get a warning telling me to save my work and close the program because Windows has ran out of memory. When I check the Task Manager, I am only using 49% of the systems Ram. I have Photoshop set to use up to 75% of available Ram. I have 8 gigs installed at the moment.

Is there something I can do to circumvent this warning? Can I adjust the amount of Ram that Windows will wait to warn me about or can I turn off the warning dialog? (Yes, I know that I can have adverse effects by turning that off).

250GB Samsung SSD
1500 GB storage HDD

Windows 8

BTW: If this thread is better suited for the Windows 8 section, feel free to move it.

Hey Guys,

Pulling my hair out here so someone PLEASE help me!!

Installed Windows 7 a few days ago, Installed Office 2007, Dreamweave CS4 and Photoshop CS4. Everything was working fine for a few days.

Then yesterday, I moved the computer to another office, and tried starting Photoshop, but it said "Photoshop Stopped Working".

Search forums for known errors and tried EVERY method that they suggested but nothing worked at all. (Dreamweaver still worked fine). So I formatted hard drive and installed Windows 7 again. All went ok so I installed Photoshop. Everything still working I created a backup image and restarted the computer several times. Again, everything working fine so I decided to install Dreamweaver and Office 2007. Without restarting, loaded Photoshop again and everything still fine, but once I restarted, thats it, Photoshop wont open again. Searched all the forums again for help, nothing works!!

I've not restored the computer so all I have is Windows 7 and Photoshop, and everything seems to be ok, for now!!

Equipment that i'm using is:

Quad Core 2.6
8gb Memory
500 and 250gb Sata
400gb IDE
2 x Radeon HD 4550 Graphics Cards
Lighscribe DVD Burner.
Usb Keyboard
Logitech Nano Wireless Mouse.

Now the only thoughts I've had is that it could have been the windows updates, but I've turned those off for now. Could it be anything to do with grpahics card?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dean

A:Photoshop CS4 / Windows 7 Problem :(

** UPDATE **

From the previous state where photoshop alone was working. I've now installed Office 2007. Everything was working fine, rebooted several times and everything was working.

Everything seemed ok so I changed some of my personal preferences, and I run 4 screens on my computer and prefer to have my "Main Screen" as the 3rd one in the row of 4.

Rebooted Windows 7 and bang, Photoshop doesn't work. So I just thought while being extremely P**SED off that I'd change my "main" screen back to Screen 2, and there you go, Photoshop works fine.......

Why is this?

Cheers

Dean

I'm assuming this belongs here as it was working fine in XP32 SP3.

Recently decided to play around with Windows 7... wow! I'm really liking it.

One of the only issues I've come across so far as been an apparent compatibility issue with Adobe Photoshop CS4. Whenever an image in open, whether it's something I've opened through PS itself, the windows explorer extension, or created from scratch in PS, the area where the image should be is completely black.

The PS interface itself is all there and working fine. Changes to an image, like drawing with a brush, do not show up; everything just stays black. The changes, however, ARE working. I opened up a new pic and blindly drew on it with brushes of various colors and saved it, and then opened it with the windows pic viewer and everything was there (and a beautiful masterpiece, at that).

Anyone know what's up? My GFX drivers are up to date and I have tried many things, like running PS in "Compatibility Mode" for XP SP3, running it as an administrator, and allowing it through all of the permissions like read, write, modify, etc. Nothing yet.

PS is "Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended, Version 11"
OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

Any help is appreciated - thanks! For now maybe I'll put in GIMP or something.

Edit: If it helps at all, here's a pic: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3518/10790740.jpg

Hmmmmmm very stange,

I am running the exact same version of Adobe Photo and Windows as you are without any issues, have you tried reinstalling Photoshop?

Are all of your hardware drivers installed correctly?

Hi there,
I've had friends trying to convince me to upgrade my windows XP (home) to SP2 for a long time now, but I'm hesitant to do so since Microsoft has a list of programs which experience problems with the service pack, among which is Photoshop CS:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884130

I'm not sure what the "processor type" reference is linked to, and since Photoshop CS is already installed on the system I dont know whether it would be affected at all.

I've been looking around to see if anyone else makes reference to this combination but have been unsuccessful so far: Does anyone have any idea/experience/opinions with this kind of issue?

Thankyou kindly.

I also have WinXP Pro (SP2) installed along with Photoshop CS and experience absolutely no problems!
