Mouse pointer shrinks back to small default size 1 after scrolling with trackpoint middle button

Q: Mouse pointer shrinks back to small default size 1 after scrolling with trackpoint middle button

Yes, there was a post several years ago describing this same issue which was supposedly fixed with an update of the Synaptics driver. However, I am seeing this issue again on my X270 Windows 10 x64 Pro with latest driver version If I set the mouse pointer size to something larger than default "1" it stays at the larger size until I use the trackpoint middle button to scroll. the pointer then shrinks back down to size "1". Just as with the previous report of this issue if I set the middle button function to "click" rather than "scroll" the pointer retains its larger size. I constantly use trackpoint scrolling so that is not really a fix for me. Has anyone else seen this issue recently and perhaps found a fix that allows continued use of trackpoint scrolling with a larger pointer? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Lenovo, Currently the Trackpoint's middle button can only do either scrolling or middle mouse button click in Windows. This behavior can be set in lenovo vantage or mouse settings. Could you provide option to enable both scrolling and middle mouse click functions at same time? In linux this is already supported out of the box for a long time. The only workaround in windows is by using third party software called TPMiddle, but this software only works with Synaptics trackpoint, it doesn't work with Elan or ALPS trackpoint.

For years this icon, called "scrolling icon", has appeared on the middle-button click on TrackPad buttons ? providing for a useful visual feedback:  For some reason, this has been removed on X1 Extreme Synaptics driver. Until November 2018 I have successfully managed to install Synaptics on X1 Extreme so as to get a proper Control Panel management for Synaptics instead of an awkward Windows Universal App AND a scrolling icon working, too. This driver 19.3.x.x (not only 201, but all other consequitve version) has stopped working after certain BIOS and Synaptics Firmware upgrade: installing 19.3.x.x instead of gives TrackPoint and TouchPad halt since November 2018. There is a registry key which allows to turn OFF the scrolling icon on drivers 19.3.x.x: https://superuser.com/questions/473325/disable-scrolling-icon . It does NOT help to turn it ON for 19.5.x.x. Any help on either getting the icon back or installing the 19.3.x.x drivers would be awesome. The latter would be more preferrable as I have trying out older drivers in a hope of getting rid of Trackpoint drift ? unsucessfully and only until they've broken 19.3.x.x drivers to work on X1 Extreme.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

Yeah, this is easy in Linux can't we get some pressure to actually get this implemented properly in windows. Useability is the main reason i got a thinkpad it would be nice to know we could actually influence it in some way. (Bumping an old topic here)

Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. Ive tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? Every time i restart my computer it resets the pointers to default. This is very frustrating cause i really want to use the icons i set them to. Any ideas on how to make vista remember what i set them to.

I have the scheme saved.

Each time i start the computer i have to go into properties and select OK and the pointers come back. They are even the active pointers when i open properties!

i have vista premium 64bit

A:Mouse Pointer keeps going back to default

To avoid the resetting problem, you need to uninstall Setpoint and go to the
Startup memu typing "msconfig" after hitting run on the start memu. Even
after uninstalling Setpoint, it still remains in the startup menu. You need
to uncheck them so they don't automatically load on reboot. Once you do
this, your problem should be resolved.

I am visually impaired and am looking for a way to change or override the default 32x32 mouse pointer size limit either through Registry settings, Group Policy or through a setting in God Mode. Is there anyone who can help? I know there is some way to create pointer/cursor size schemes that show larger even in Windows 10 as I have some VERY large installable cursor schemes they are called Phillip's Large Colored Cursors. I have tried editing & increasing the size of the .cur & .ani files themselves but they will still not DISPLAY at the actual size because of the 32x32 default size limit in 10. I will be very greatful to anyone who can help.

First time posting, I hope I got this in the right section.

My situation is: For part of my IT coursework I had to explain and show evidence of tweaks that could be done in Windows 7 that could help visually impaired users use the computer better, and one of the ways I explained was about making the system font size larger. I changed the size and took a pic, and reverted back to default font size, but the system fonts seem to have shrunk even further than what I had as default before.

I don't know if I'm going mad or what because I don't remember the fonts being that small and I didn't have the bigger font on long enough for me to get used to it.

Here are pictures of what I'm talking about:

System fonts that seem too small

Google Chrome with the same problem

If anybody has a solution to this I would be very grateful if you could share,

Thanks in advance,

Welcome to Seven Forum.
Right click on "Screen resolution" & there you should see "make text or other items larger or smaller" click on that & that will open a window where you can adjust the size. Try different settings to see which one suits you.

Hi Everyone, A couple days ago I noticed that my middle mouse button which I use for scrolling started to activate the Context Menu (aka anytime you right-click, a menu pops up). Then I noticed that my right-button will also activate scrolling as well. Is this a hardware issue? I've already tried reinstalling the drivers and played around with the settings to no avail!  Anyone experience a similar issue? Cheers,

Hey folks, The middle button for trackpoint doesn't work. All drivers are up to date. Middle button is enabled for scrolling, not clicking. Middle button works when switched over for clicking. It just randomly stopped working last week, but it works when I switch it over to clicking in the settings tool. Any ideas? Thanks

Currently my TrackPoint middle button does scrolling as desired but when I release it, it pops up a right-click menu.  I can't figure out how to turn off the right-click functionality.  Any ideas? I believe I have fully explored the entire Mouse properties dialog from Control Panel, including the advanced one with the special TrackPoint options.  I tried any option that looked even vaguely related, and nothing helped. Thanks in advance!

On my X1Y3 it started about a month ago.  Bascially after anywhere from 5-30 minutes of the computer turning on my trackpoint icon gets stuck with the middle scrolling point icon anytime im in a text field.  It acts like the middle track point buttoin is depressed even when its not.  see below picture circled in yellow.  This is not related to a specific browser.  It happens in Chrome, IE and Edge.  Synaptics driver version  I updated to the current driver about 3 weeks ago when this problem 1st started.  It happened on the prior driver too.

I guess I need to stop installing drivers...  I unstalled the latest Synaptics UltraNav drivers for my X1 yoga today as advertised by System Update (Thinkvantage and companion).  Now it's super-finicky, difficult to scroll on the trackpad, but even worse I can't set the middle button on the trackpoint to scroll anymore!  It just resets to "middle-click" in Lenovo Settings.  I'm a bit beside myself because now I have a yoga that does not yoga (touchscreen does not work after updates) and now I can't even consistantly scroll  I tried to uninstall it as per the readme that came with the update but that does not even work, complaining that a dll file is not a valid windows application.

I have a problem that I've never experienced before in XP, Vista and Windows 7. I have researched the problem but the only thing I can find is how to turn on and turn off the "jump to" default button pointer setting. In the past, the jump to feature worked as intended but appx. two weeks ago I started having this problem. We all know how the function works and the fact that it will not work with all default buttons, which is good. Here's the current situation: the pointer still goes to the window in which the default button is located but instead of landing on the button the pointer goes to the upper left corner or mid-left side of the window. I haven't installed any software lately that would cause such a thing to happen and I haven't made any changes. The problem occurs in both my user account and my wife's user account, mine being an Administrator account and hers being a Stanard account. My Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard software is up to date and the current driver is installed. I have not changed/updated the driver in the software. I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and rebooted to no avail. The mouse settings are properly set to enable the jump.

With my old computer and mouse, I used to be able to use the middle button for various tasks susch as opening a link in another tab, rotating the camera in games etc and i have got very used to this.

I recently purchased a Dell XPS One and am using the mouse which came with it which, according to Device Manager, is the Logitech HID Compliant Cordless Mouse.
I am running Vista Home Premium x32, and i am unable to use the middle button for this. Instead, in firefox, it is a sort of zoom function. Yesterday it started working - i don't know why - but today it has failed again and is back to the zoom function.

If i hold down the CTRL button and left click, this is the same as middle button should be, so is there any way i can swap these functions around?

I don't know if this is a problem with the mouse or with vista, or with me not finding some setting.

If it helps, my mouse driver is version which i think is up to date.

Hi, I am using the Dell Inspiron 26 7000 series.
I"ve recently encountered a very strange bug. Whenever I turn on my computer, whether from hibernation, shutdown my mouse doesn't work properly.
What happens is this, I'll go to open anything (Firefox, word, excel etc) and suddenly my mouse cursor would jump to another part of the screen. And suddenly, except for that one program that I have opened, i can no longer left/right click anywhere else. sometimes while moving, I would even end up dragging my menu bar and dock it somewhere else on the screen.
I thought it was the mouse, but I bought a brand new out of the box and that one does it too. i uninstalled the trackpad driver, and unplugged the mouse and use the trackpad and it still does it.
I cannot even use the trackpad, because of this issue because it won't recognize my trying to middle click. I can post a video of it later if you like to show yall what's going on.

I've never seen any other posts with that same problem so it may be intentionally built-in to that particular mouse to prevent others using your PC when you're away from it. Read it's instructions if you got any with it, it should tell you if it's got a built-in mouse lock, although that feature usually requires additional third-party mouse software to be installed to recognise when the appropriate buttons have been pressed.

If no instructions were supplied, go to it's manufacturer's website to see if it's mentioned there.

Another thing, more a graphic matter than a real problem: when i drag any window on the desktop, the horizontal edges in the windows (both windows' and program's horizontal lines (for example, the horizontal lines in this forum)) become fuzzy , zig zag, but only while dragging. What could it be?

A:How Do I Find A Middle Mouse Button on a Laptop?

Hello KTG and welcome to Seven Forums.

I think a lot will depend on your touchpad software. If you have a Synaptics touchpad you could probably create a tap zone on the touchpad itself that will function as a middle click. Or you could use an AutoHotkey script to do a middle click when the left and right touchpad buttons are clicked at the same time. This article gives more info.

You have the middle mouse button and more in your laptop. You must have to unlock all of these features. Go to control panel and then select mouse. Now explore all the options and you will see that you can do so many things with your touchpad including th middle mouse function

Got a strange issue which is bugging me.

I have an ergo AS2 all-in-one PC with built in Touchscreen Display on WIndows 7

All drivers are installed, and the touch screen is working, however the Mouse Pointer on screen is bugging the hell out of me.

I have USB mouse plugged in as well, and when using the USB mouse, i get the default white arrow, but as soon as I use finger on the Touchscreen the Mouse pointer changes to a small diamond. When I take my finger of the screen, the mouse pointer dissappears alltogether (until the next time i touch or move the mouse)

I want the touchscreen Mouse pointer to stay the same as the normal white arrow. I have tried all the options under Mouse settings and Pen and Touch, but none work.

Anyone able to help? This was working fine on the stock Ergo Window 7 image before I put my own Windows 7 image on it, so I know it must be possible.

Thanks in advance.
