Faulty HDMI Port- 'No signal'

Q: Faulty HDMI Port- 'No signal'

Hi guys this is my first post as im at a loss of what to do .
Recently my old monitor stopped working, it was using a VGA cable, but the cable is not the problem, my PC is. I bought a new monitor which requires HDMI, however the port on my PC will not respond to the cord, meaning I have no monitor :/ or anyway to troubleshoot. The only thing I can think of would be to buy a USB to HDMI adapter? But even then I would need a monitor to install the device surely. I would usually take it to the shop, but with lockdown I am lost and without a PC for the forseeable future, help would be appretiated!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Warro, and welcome to TSG.

I don't think anyone here can give you much help without knowing:

1: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of your computer and/or the motherboard.

2: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of any video controller expansion card (the card itself, not the manufacturer and model number of the graphics IC) plugged into the motherboard.

3: The operating system running the PC.

A recent power outage has caused some of my hardware to function oddly...
My tv's hdmi ports seem to still work for say a ps3, but when hooking up to my gtx 760 I get "No Signal"?
I only have one hdmi port but several other dvi ports. My smaller monitor(plugged into dvi port 1) is functioning normally. It also seems the gpu is still functioning because I booted Dota 2 just fine with 60fps(vsync). Could this outage have fried the hdmi port? Should I be worried, should I return it or just buckle down with 2 dvi connectors? I was gonna test out hdmi to dvi cables to test my theory but am unsure what to do otherwise.

Why it has the port, why the BIOS recommened/installed is NON-HDMI (version 1.10 BIOS 6GET19WW) and why it doesn't work when connected to any Tv with HDMI capability?  Should i downgrade to 1.09. I m running Windows 10 since July 2015 and ...this is another issue which probably will force mesoon to go back to Windows 7, the last update installed successful for windows 10 was Sep 2015; ever since, all the updates don't install, don't download sometimes, whatever adivse i followed, no windows update can be installed. Thank you so much Vera

A:Can I use my motherboard HDMI port as well as my graphics card HDMI?

I've seen a number of computers where the addition of an Add-in Video card automatically disabled the onboard adapter. The only thing that worked to restore the onboard adapter was to remove that Add-in card. You may want to consider getting a different Add-in card that has 2 HDMI ports. Or if your motherboard has 2 PCIe X16 slots get a 2nd matching card.

The 1070 has no VGA slot so i had to buy one of those HDMI to VGA adaptors in order to connect it to my current monitor, however i get no image at all while i connect it.

This is the adaptor : https://s13.postimg.org/8iqt3l6ef/00054569abx.jpg Hama HDMI to VGA converter.
The card is the G1 version from Gigabyte.
Monitor is an old Samsung SyncMaster 933sn

I have had my desktop Dell, with Windows 8.1, well over 10 years, and now it has been hanging up after only a few minutes of booting up -- sometimes giving me a BSoD . I've spent many hours with different kinds of 'fixes' (which the computer couldn't eventually fix), 'refreshing' of the system', etc. I've given up on it . There are probably too many system errors to try and fix with outside-the-system apps, so I'm not going to even bother with it anymore .

What can I do? Is it possible to physically replace a USB port? How?

Well, around winter of 2008 my computer broke down. I have recently gotten sick and tired of using a 2002 windows COMPAQ, has too little ram for anything remotely modern.
So I am back to it, my Father looked at it and he thinks the motherboard is fried.

No one in my family has any PHYSICAL computer problem experience (though I have virtual experience)
It started to make a loud hoarse noise at startup. The monitor sayed "No Input Signal" and said "Monitor going to sleep"

We cleaned out the inside as it was ridiculously dusty, and now the hoarse noises have stopped. But the monitor is still messed up.

What I can provide
-Another computer to test things
-Pictures of the inside of my computer
-Specifications (To an extent)

another thing I want you to know
I am not prepared to buy most things, I have another computer with parts I can swap if it comes down to it but if we cant fix it we are going to buy a brand new computer.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I have little physical computer experience, as in none. So.. I dont know where anything or what anything is.

Purchased this 27in Monitor in part because it claims HDCP compatibility.  Works fine w my computer at 1080P and other resolutions with no HDCP involved. Does not work with my cable set top box(STB) at anything above 720P. Multiple STB tried, multiple cables, etc that all work fine with my full HD TV. (Motorola VIP2202 is STB  full digital w IP between boxes from fiber modem to router-- allows you to set max resolution of your "TV" or monitor in my case.  Has full HD capability and delivers many HD signals from HD only TV Channels).  So I am trying to decide: Do I not understand what HDCP should mean?  Shouldn't my STB play w the monitor at 1080P just like my HDTV?Is the Monitor faulty (bad HDCP) & should I exchange for a working one during my retailer's 30 day return window?Should I buy a different brand -- anyone had success w STB to monitor at full HD with another make?I am replacing a monitor (dead) that gave me 720P from the STB via a HDMI to VGA adapter.  I expected to move up with a "modern" higher end monitor -- instead, I ended up the same place.

The headphone port on my Thinkpad z60m 2529 rcu produces "uneven" sound. When I plug in my computer speakers, depending on how I wiggle the input jack the sound changes. If I hold it in the right place then the sound is as it should be. Otherwise, the sound is lower and portions of the music I am listening to is inaudible. I am tested this out on a number of songs and, as an example, I can not hear the bass guitar portions of a lot of the songs unless I put the input jack for my speakers in a very specific position and continue to hold it like that.

How do I fix this?
I was googling this and I read some forum posts about others users recommending people like me who have this problem to purchase an external audio device and do not use the internal sound card. They said it will improve the audio too. If I am not able to fix this, should I follow this route?

That is generally the most common solution as it doesn't require a tear down of the laptop. It may also not be possible to repair the broken port on the laptop or may require a new port or audio header/board. What's probably happened is the either the plastic port is broken and the connect the jack makes is poor or the pins that connect the port to the motherboard have broken loose and aren't making good contact. Using a PC Card, XpressCard, or USB sound card is generally the super fast and 100% effective fix.

Hi, I decided to speed up my laptop by replacing almost unused ODD with a new SSD drive so mounted the disk into adaptive frame and plugged into the DVDR slot. Firstly everything looked up fine but after further attempts to clone old drive or install brand new Windows from bootable pendrive this new drive started behave unpredictably, ie. give errors, freeze, timeout partitioning operations or even wasnot visible as connected physical device case by case.
I firstly suspected the drive self so sent it to RMA, but the seller returned it with no hardware fault found. So now the surmise lies on faulty SATA subsystem. Since original HDD connected to SATA port #1 operates alltime without issues the possibly failing part is the SATA port #2 or SATA cable.
I will appreciate a solution to have flawlessly working SSD and possibly also keeping the old plate harddrive to retain storage space for less speed critical data
I.e. any chance to make working the problematic 2nd SATA channel, swap the ports, but then probably the old drive will be the one not stable. In the last resort I can try to change the SATA cable, but don't know which type I can use and if it's replaceable at all. Thanks for any good advices.

A few days ago I upgraded my PCs motherboard, from a MSI Z370 PC Pro, to a Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon (also MSI), at first there was no issues at all, until a few days after, my Ethernet speeds were dropping randomly.

One minute Ill have perfect internet speeds over ethernet (my normal speeds of 200mbps), then the next my download will be almost 0 mbps, while upload speeds are fine. This happens randomly, isnt fixed by a reboot, and Ive found no way to fix it. Ive tried the following troubleshooting:

Tried different Ethernet cables
Tried a different PC, and tested the speeds over WiFi (to see if it was my internet)
Removed and reinstalled the Ethernet drivers (once for each source: MSI site, Intel site and Windows device manager/update)
Assigning manual/static IP configuration within windows
Resetting BIOS
Updated BIOS

I should also mention that after the BIOS update (which did complete successfully) my 8600k was not being detected, I spent a few hours troubleshooting this and in the end what fixed it was either reseating the CPU power cable (wasnt an issue until the BIOS update however) or resetting the CMOS (Im leaning to this) But the core thing here is another issue seen is a CPU not being detected for a short period of time

As of now I cant think of anything else to try with troubleshooting the Ethernet port, and I am leaning towards an RMA. If anyone needs any more info about my specs I can provide them.

I have an HP Desktop Envy All in One. I used an HDMI cable to connect my PC and my Samsung UHD TV so I could use my TV as a 2nd Monitor. I have verified the cable is fine along with the HDMI ports on the TV. When I use the "Source" button on the remote and select HDMI port 2, it tells me there is NO signal or it's not strong enough. When I try to adjust the "Display Settings "on my computer, it appears my PC won't even detect the TV. So, whatever the issue it, it's my computer that is the problem and I am sure it's a simple setting. I am lost and very, very frustrated.

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a multifunctional laser unit via parallel port on a PC running XP Pro and is unsuccessful in getting it to print.

I have put the LPT ports into SPP and ECP modes with no luck. (have not tried EPP although I should as its bi-directional) I have also tried different parallel cable, different versions of drivers, tried printing from DOS using "dir > lpt1" and still no luck. The LCD on the unit says "waiting" then goes back to "ready" with no output.

I have connected the unit to my laptop running XP Pro. The LPT is set to ECP. I can print from windows with several versions of the drivers as well as from DOS without problems.

I also have a HP A3 Bubblejet that has a monitoring toolbox. This unit is connected via USB but also has Parallel support. I have removed this printer and toolbox software believing this toolbox was locking down the LPT port and still no luck with printing to the laser unit. I have connected the HP Bubblejet via parallel (with no toolbox software loaded) and also got no print.

Lastly, if i remove the LPT1 port in Device Manager and rescan for hardware, the PC detects the LPT port and the attached device. It installs the driver for the attached device and indicates all is installed and ready to use. but printing fails.

Thus I believe there is something going on with the PC not the printer units. However, I am still unsure if it's software or hardware related.

Hi

I have just built a PC with the ASUS M4A88T-M motherboard which has Radeon HD 4250 on board graphics. OS is Windows 7 Pro.

I have installed all the motherboard/graphics drivers that were supplied on the CD, but I cannot get any video or audio output from the HDMI slot.

I know that there are sometimes issues getting the audio through the HDMI cable but there is no video signal either. The VGS & DVI slots are fine, and also using a DVI-HDMI cable works, but then I have to use separate audio cables.

Do you have to enable HDMI within Windows anywhere ?

I have tried two different TV?s with no signal on either, so it seems to be a PC issue.

Any help appreciated.

You can try to download the latest drivers from here:ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A88T-M/USB3

Failing that, You can try to exchange the motherboard (for OEM Windows 7 to activate the replacement board must be the SAME model), or look into getting a video card

Hello everybody. First of all, I'd like to say that I am not very technically savvy, so I apologize for any ignorance on my part. I posted this issue and a follow up on another forum; however, that forum seems to be a little on the dead side, so I decided to ask you experts. For that reason, I am splitting this into the two days I have spent trying to figure this out (to no avail).

Day 1:

So basically, I've been connected up to this 37" Emprex HDTV for a few days (nothing great... use the nice Samsung for the PS3), with no problems... well, ok, one problem. While fine at first, yesterday the computer decided to stop picking up the HDMI audio, with Windows 7 listing it as "unplugged." I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and rolling back the drivers as well as installing new ones (Realtek... not sure if it had anything to do with anything, but it was worth a shot) to no avail. That was only the start of the problems however.

This morning, everything (except for the audio, of course) was peachy. A few hours ago, however, the TV decided to just stop reading the HDMI signal all together. No video, no picture, no nothing. All I get is a blue screen that says "No signal." I've tried numerous cables, unplugged and replugged countless times, uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers, and nothing. VGA works though, so that's what I'm using now. By the way, the problem occured after I had moved the TV to a new spot, so it's n... Read more

Hi,

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA785G-US2H mobo with radeon HD 4200 graphics. It has HDMI 1.3 and I have an old TV lying around which happens to have HDMI input. I just built a new PC so, I decided to hook up these 2 and make a Boxee box.

I have Ubuntu installed on the to-be boxee and on the new machine I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

When I plug in the HMDI cable, nothing happens, that is, no display on the TV. I even doubled checked everything-input, cable!

Am I doing something wrong here? The TV is a Hitachi L32S02A.

The cable is HDMI 1.3 one.

I even tried the new PC which has my Radeon HD 6770 on it-still nothing!

What should I try now?

A:No signal through HDMI

Change your resolution to 1366x768 or lower and make sure the refresh rate is 60 before connecting to the tv..? Set tv to hdmi1 or hdmi2 input.

Hi all, there is no signal coming from the G70-80 HDMI port to my LCD-Display.I already tried different HDMI cables, but no change. The display stays black. I had a look at the BIOS, too, but there was no option for the Intel graphics chip. In the Intel graphics options I can only choose the integrated display, there is no 2nd display.Pressing the "F10" key and selecting "duplicate display" or "exted display" does not help. Anything else I could try? Thank you! Regards, ayalala

Hi, can anybody help?
I have a two year old XPS-8700 desktop, now with Windows 10 64-bit and 16 MB RAM, with NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 graphics card. Today I tried to connect to it my HDV camcorder Canon HV20 through the HDMI port at the back (the lower graphics card one, as the motherboard socket is closed), in order to transfer some videos I have not tapes. However, there is no communication, the Dell doesn't see the Canon at all. On the previous desktop I used to do it through the FireWire port, but the Dell doesn't have it.
I enabled Intel multiple display in BIOS, as advised on this forum some time ago, but it didn't help.
I read somewhere GT720 is quite weak, is this the reason? On the other hand, Nvidia claims this card is fully capable of video handling.
Will appreciate any advice.

I have a new 40" LCD Dynex TV with HDMI connections and a one year old Acer computer with Windows 7, which has an HDMI terminal. I have tried to connect the two, using all kinds of combinations of plugging in the cable before and after the computer starts or the TV is turned on etc. I have gone into the display on the computer and see that the computer recognizes the TV as a device and it also indicates that it is working properly, but I get absolutely no signal at the TV. I have tried different resolutions and different recovery rates, but to no avail. I know that the connections are good and that the TV input mode is the correct one.
I see in the "display" function of the control panel that two monitors are shown - one for the TV and one for my computer monitor.
Can anyone help me?

A:HDMI - no signal

Start by calling Dynex and ask what "mode" the TV should be in to receive.

Hey,

When I connect my PC to my TV Via HDMI Cable, my TV does not receive a signal. When I check in Control panel>Display>Resolution, My TV hasn't even been detected. My TV is an LG 50", Card is a GTX580, and my OS is Win7.

Also, when I connect my laptop to my TV via HDMI (Also on Win7), It is instantly recognised and automatically displays, so it has to be an issue with the PC itself.

Spent a while on google trying to find a solution, but unfortunately I couldn't find one. Thanks for any help on this.

Hi there
What do you get on your MAIN PC when you press the windows + P key. It should be settable to display on 2nd screen only.

It should allow you to switch monitors. The monitor probably isn't being recognized since your PC is set to display on your main screen only (by default).

Ensure the TV is switched on and the input set for HDMI. You'll probably have to change the resolution - laptops seem to work fine --desk tops seem to be different -- probably because of the difference in the graphics cards - especially built in ones.

Laptops recognize when a monitor is plugged in -- this isn't always the case with Desktop PC's so try it with the WIN +P key with the TV switched on of course and the HDMI cable plugged in.

If you DO get it to work don't forget to re-set the screen back to PC display before disconnecting or at the next boot if you don't have the TV plugged in you'll end up with a nice blank screen.

Cheers
jimbo

So, I just finished building my first ever custom PC. At first I couldn?t even get it to turn on, but that?s not my current issue; after finally getting my computer to turn on, now it doesn?t even display anything on my monitor. In fact, it?s worse than displaying nothing; it shows the monitor?s blue screen with the ?HDMI No Signal? message, as if my computer isn?t even hooked up to the monitor. I use this same HDMI cable and monitor for my Xbox One, so I know that those aren?t the issue. The problem must be somewhere in the computer itself, but everything seems to be running fine.

Just to clarify; this is a fully custom built PC and this is my first time attempting to boot it up. I haven?t even had the chance to try to install my Win10 OS because I can?t get my monitor to present the Startup BIOS.

Hello, everyone.
I am using a Latitude 3540 laptop with switchable graphics (Intel HD Graphics, AMD Radeon HD 8850M). As soon as I got the laptop, I upgraded to 8.1 (probably a mistake!).
All of my drivers are up to date according to Device Manager, and I've updated the chipset and BIOS and everything according to the Dell website. But for as long as I've had this laptop, the VGA port will not work! I'm using a VGA cord that has worked with other laptops before without issue. The laptop will not output to projector, external monitor, or a TV. Pressing the win-P combination brings up the ability to extend and duplicate my screen. When I change those settings, my screen resolution will change, but the external monitor/projector doesn't display anything. When I try to detect displays in my graphics properties, it just doesn't detect anything that's connected.
Is my VGA port faulty? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what else to try at this point? My laptop is still under warranty, so I suppose I could always send it in to be fixed.
Thanks for the help!

Hi

I've just recently had to rebuild my HTPC with a newer version of Windows 7. I have been using an ATi HD5450 card in my setup for over a year now with no problems.

However, with this new build I've put on, I am now not getting any signal to my receiver from my HTPC. However, as soon as I turn on my TV, I get a signal to the receiver!! So I can get audio but always have to have the TV on, which is not how I remember it working before.

I am no nearer to finding out why all of a sudden there is no signal from my PC to receiver. I have carried out a few tests that Yamaha have advised me to as I thought the issue was with the receiver but it looks like a problem with the Windows 7 and codecs.

I've just checked and I am running the latest drivers for my card as well.

Hope someone can help! Thanks
