res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm problem in IE

Q: res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm problem in IE

I get res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm after a minute or two in internet explorer. I followed the instructions in the "Read this before you post..."-thread.

Here?s the results from hijackthis and the analyzer. The problemcomputer is about 160 miles from my place so I hope I won?t have to go there and get a new log.

Preferred Solution: res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm problem in IE

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm problem in IE

Hello and welcome to TSF!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download CWShredder at http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CWShredder.exe and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Download and install Spybot S&D http://security.kolla.de/. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available.

Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident and make sure that TeaTimer is checked. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings.

Now click on the 'Spybot-S&D' option on the top left to go back to the main screen. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the 'Fix Selected Problems' button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix http://majorgeeks.com/download4392.html and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Please download Ad-aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/...2cleaner.shtml to download the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware at http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\PDSched.exe
C:\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskgmr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\snlogsvc.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] snlogsvc.exe

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\PDSched.exe
C:\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskgmr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\snlogsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\avserve2.exe

scvhost.exe<<<<<<<<<<<<Do a search for and delete
Do no delete c:\windows\system32\SVCHOST.EXE<<<It is legit Note the difference of the first 3 letters

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KRC%...20Analyzer.zip in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in your next reply.

The problem is that the Internet disconnects randomly, and at times at constant intervals.

The typical error message is:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL\dnserror.html

I have a dial-up connection with a local ISP. The modem is HSP56 (internal) and the browser is IE 5.0. The problem persists for few months now. I have investigated various sources of error, and possible blind solutions but nothing seem to work. Below I describe my attempts to identify the exact nature of the problem and certain blind solution, and kindly ask you to forward suggestions to identify or solve the above problem.

I have learned(including from searching these forums) that the source of the problem can be many, and I have attempted to locate the problem, but with no success.

1. Server or ISP problem.
(We contacted ISP, and asked to ran certain tests and
determined that the problem is not due to them.)

2. Inappropriate Setting.
(We are aware of the setting where inactivity causes disconnection, and the
problem is not due to such setting.)

3. Bad connection.
(We replaced wire; the connection is only through one phone; and still did not solve the problem. Should we contact our phone company and request testing of the line? Should we disable incoming phones by adjusting the setting?)

4. Modem Hardware Problem
(The modem is an internal HSP56 modem. ?We have not replaced the modem. We don't want to do this unless itís the last resort.)

5. Outdated Modem Driver
(We have not updated the mode... Read more

A:Internet Disconnection Problem: SHDOCLC.DLL\dnserror.html

Sounds like you are definitely dropping your connection to the net, your browser will return that message if not connected to the net. Do you by any chance have call waiting enabled on you phone line? If you do, you can disable it by inserting *70 or 70#or 1170, in your dialup properties. Have you run a virus scan recently?

It was workin fine,,,next thing I know its not connecting to a web page!!! I have to go and install Ad-Aware but without downloadin updates will this get fixed that way????

A:res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

Make sure that the Operating System and Internet Explorer are up-to-date by visiting the Windows Update Site and downloading all of the Critical Updates and Service Packs.

From what I read they are calling that the "garbage string bug". Instead of typing "www.microsoft.com" (no quotes) in the Address bar, you can type "microsoft" (again, no quotes) and hit CTRL+ENTER. This will actually add the "http://www" and ".com" portions of the URL for you automatically. But the interesting thing is that it also bypasses the garbage string bug if you type of bad URL.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running. Ad-Aware? SE Personal Edition
Spybot Search & Destroy
CWShredder

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible.
Please make sure system restore is enabled by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn OFF System Restore and make sure it?s NOT checked. We want system restore ON and monitoring your current hard drive. Once your clean we will turn this off and then back on to remove the infection from the restore folder and create a clean restore point.

You should get rid of MyWebSearch. Try to uninstall it. It may not be the problem, but MyWebSearch is considered a hijacker and spyware.

You are running AdAware, make sure it's updated and start it doing a deep scan.

The issue you're experiencing is usually related to a browser hijacker. Continue to search these forums as many posters on here have experienced it. A Google search will turn up many more suggestions.

Hi,

Recently my computer has been plagued with spyware, malware, and viruses. The main
problem is the SHDOCLC.DLL/dnserror.htm error. I have also been denied access to
the control panel with a message that says I have to be the admin, which I am. I
have tried running control panel commands from the command prompt, again I get the
same message saying I don't have access and to contact the admin.
I have located 2 spyware/malware programs: printer.exe and shell.exe. i was able
to kill the process tree for shell.exe, and proceeded to locate and delete it. However
when I later started up the computer it reappeared.
When I ran Ad-Aware I came up with the trojan: win32.trojan.agent, which i believe
ad-aware removed, although I don't know how to check this.

I believe the virusses, spyware, etc. was downloaded through bittorrent, which mysteriously
appeared on my computer yesterday.

I have performed a HJT scan and can provide it if anyone needs it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you very very much.

A:IE error: res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm . please help!

Hi and Welcome to TSF

He still has a worm in the PC. Also both XP and IE6 need updated with the latest service packs.

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

If you have a highspeed connection please Run an online virus scan from TrendMicro Please select the ?autoclean? option when prompted to do so

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

A:res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm ERROR

Hi vinzoolander and welcome to TSF,

Since you're having problems accessing the Internet, see if you can get to another computer and burn to a disc, the following:

If you haven't already, download, install, update immediately, then run AdawareSE. Make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results.

Then download, install, update immediately, click on 'Immunize' then click 'Check for Problems'. Spybot S&D.

Have each fix whatever problems they may find.

Then get HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Run the scan, save the log, but do not fix anything yet. Many files it finds are harmless, and required for your system to operate.

Post your log in a new thread in the HijackThis Log Help forum. This our dedicated spyware/virus forum. One of the expert analysts there will look over your log and assist you. Please include a brief description of the problem you are having and what you have done to fix it so far.

A:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm in my IE Web Browser

Hi skasmos and welcome to TSF.

Please do not post your log in someone else's thread. I have split up your post and created a new thread for you.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log f... Read more

Thank you for your responses.

A:IE Message Res:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

I have run into this before on a win 98 machine and all you had to do was first get the spyware/virus off the machine then delete the winsock and winsock2 keys from the registry restart and re-install tcp/ip protocol and everything was gravy. I have been fighting the same issue on a windows xp pro machine. I can ping any site including other pc's on my lan but cannot browse with any web browser. I have run everything all virus/spyware scan, sfc, netsh, deleted winsock entries, removed all ntwk protocols and services and reinstalled them and still cannot browse. So i feel your pain.

Hi

For a couple of days now i'm experiencing a problem with my internet browser and internet connection.

I'm using Windows2000. Two days ago my AVG detected a few trojans that unfortunately can't get rid of. These are Generic.LUR , Clicker.FR , Generic.JJR and Agent.EX . At the same time my internet browser version6.00 stopped working. Everytime i'm trying to connect to the internet it shows that it tries to download from C:\WINNT\system32\shdoclc.dll\dnserror.htm and then it just says that the site can not be displayed. Also nothing else connects to the internet. I've tried upgrating my AVG antivirus i've tried to access internet with Yahoo messenger but nothing connects. I also tried and downloaded (using another pc of course) firefox in case it was a fault with internet explorer but firefox doesn't work either. It's like i have no internet connection. I've contacted my internet provider but they say everything is fine with my broadband the problem is from my end.

Also my Ad Aware SE Personal program and my Spybot Search & Destroy don't work. Everytime i try to run them they crush.

I have run HijackThis on my pc and this is the log. I would really appreciate it if you could help me. I really don't want to have to format my pc.

A:shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm in my IE Web Browser

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. Of late my Internet Explorer (v.6.0.8.2800.1106 on a 2000 Professional system, if that helps) after a little use will throw up the "cannot find page" with the following message at the bottom where it tells you where the page is headed:

res://C:\WINNT\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm...

At times I can use IE for a good long time, and other times I only get about 60-90 seconds of use before it kicks this up. Rebooting the machine clears up the problem...for a while.

I've searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base site to no avail and am hoping someone here can help!

Hi, I have been having this problem for a day or two now. I cannot access any websites from my home pc. I have run hijack.this, about buster, s&d , adware, CWS shredder. unfortunately I was unable to save my hijack log. I keep getting a different dll everytime. I removed it from every user on the pc and I deleted it manually also. regardless I keep getting the following message when I open IE6( i am running Windows XP home edition, Earthlink cable internet)
res:// C:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

If i cant do anything else i am thinking about reinstalling windows just so i wont get this message is there a way to keep my personal files???
Any else would be appreciated. THANKS.

hi, Please provide these:

I see you have XP Home...
and Earthlink cable connection.
Try the reset button on the back or side of the cable modem....you can do this with pc on or off...in most cases.
Wait for the lights to finish blinking across the modem front and try the connection to IE or other browser.

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Hi

I have a problem with IE. I run XP & IE 6 which has been fine until yesterday, now each time I try to use explorer this message keeps coming up. I can access the internet through other programs and my e-mail is working fine. I have installed and run Spybot, Adaware, CCleaner and just completed a hijack this report. (the results are saved and available for anyone to see). I also run Norton, and have a fairly secure firewall on the router.

We run a small business and have 2 computers networked through a router connected directly to the phone lines. The other computers are fine.

I am fairly computer literate and have spent many hours trying to correct this problem, but I am now at the point of throwing this PC through my window!

Has anyone got some ideas?

A:res://C:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

It could be a DNS problem.
Goto Start > Run. . . > Type in "cmd" (without the quotes), hit enter or ok.

Type in "ipconfig /all", and look in there besides DNS Servers, if there is not one listed that would be your problem. Tell the results.

(To get out of cmd, just type exit and hit enter)

Hopefully you can help. My son's laptop no longer has internet access, either on our wireless home network, or directly through the modem. I found numerous viruses using Ad-Aware, Spybot and CounterSpy, and also ran SmitFraudFix. The first indication of a problem was a yellow triangle indicating infection by [email protected] I don't see this anymore, however I do see res://shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm in the Internet Explorer address bar. I dowloaded Internet Explorer7 to my desktop and loaded it onto the laptop, but this has not fixed the problem. When trying to connect IE will not recognise an IP address. Sorry to be long winded. Having checked my own laptop and home computer, I'm glad we had the original problem, so I was made aware of everything else.

Anyone have a solution to this problem. I have XP running at home and after about 5 minutes on line this is what shows up when I try to change pages or start IE. No email either. If I reboot then I am good for another 5 or 10 minutes.

I have run all the spyware, Adaware, Spy Bot, PC Rescue, Norton to no avail.

I've been having quite a headache recently with a family PC, and was hoping someone could help. It's Windows 2000 Professional Edition, Service Pack 4.

Initially it was exhibiting behaviour that spyware/malware/etc was present; pop-up windows when no browser was loaded, slow connectivity, that sort of thing. Unfortunately I didn't tend to this problem as promptly as I should have, and the person who uses the computer ran Spybot S&D, found some infected files in their Windows directory (I'm assuming it was System32) and deleted them.

This caused the computer to automatically restart after the startup phase, just before the login screen showed up. Unfortunately I didn't know exactly what was deleted, so I was shooting in the dark a bit. So I did an Emergency Recovery Process which proceeded to reinstall all the system files. Since it was something of a sledgehammer approach it caused some problems, media players wouldn't work and the like. So I started to roll back a lot of software with the intention of downloading various security patches and the like all over again. Resulting in the present problem.

Internet Explorer now comes up with the shdocl.dll\dnserror.htm message at the top of the window. No other internet programs work; Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. Network connectivity is still there, (the internet connection is over the LAN through a Dynalink modem/router) and I can still do a ping and tracert. I've tried WinsockXPFix and various other methods t... Read more

Welcome to TSF.

Please print the below instructions or copy them to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the order mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe %WINDIR%\usnsv.exe
O23 - Service: Messenger Sharing USN Journal Service - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\usnsv.exe

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc Tools->Delete an NT service and type in Messenger Sharing USN Journal Service and hit OK.

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\WINNT\usnsv.exe

Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix and follow the instructions on how to install the Recovery Console and run ComboFix. Go through all the steps until posting the log part. Post the combofix log here.

Where Calamity Jane, an expert, explains about what you can try (Kaspersky trial version) and how to get it and set it up...those directions are crucial to your success. Note that you MUST:

Set Norton (or any other antvirus program) to not start up when the computer does> the setting to do that is in Norton Antivirus, in Preferences or Options> look for Bootup or Startup Options, and something along the lines of "Do not start Norton Antivirus when Windows/ computer starts up" so the the background scanner is not running when you try to install Kaspersky, or it will prompt you to uninstall Norton.

You MUST run Kaspersky in Safe Mode as it says, and you have to use the extended database.
There are directions for manual updating the program, where you cannot get online to get them in the steps.

If you cannot even download the program> have someone burn it to a CD for you, as an ISO data burn (they should know what that is all about) and install it that way, the updates can be manually added to the CD as it says.
