ENVY 20-030: I need an external monitor and there is no port...

Q: ENVY 20-030: I need an external monitor and there is no port...

I have an ENVY 20-030 [no port for an external monitor]. I am told that I can use the USB3 port, with a USB-to-VGA or HDMI or DVI connector.: Which connector is best? Does HP sell a siutable connector?

Preferred Solution: ENVY 20-030: I need an external monitor and there is no port...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: ENVY 20-030: I need an external monitor and there is no port...

gervaisharry222 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! I use a USB-to-VGA adapter to drive a third monitor for my desktop and find it works great! I can't use it for videos or gaming, because the USB 2.0 port doesn't provide enough bandwidth, but I have the other two monitors for that. What you buy is up to you. If you use a USB 3.0 port, then you would have enough bandwidth to drive either HDMI or DVI -- and the choice then depends on how much you want to spend.Good Luck

Have used an external monitor for over 2 years with no problem.  Suddenly, my external monitor is no longer detected.  It works on other computer.  Tried switching from HDMI to VGA-no help.  Tried different HDMI cable-no help. Sometimes if I disable and enable the Intel HD graphics card it will come back but not every time.  Updated video drivers.  I saw another older post but the supposed fix link does not work anymore. The external monitor is simply not detected even though the laptop "beeps" when I plug in the HDMI cable so it recognizes that being plugged in.  Monitor stays dark. Any idea?

I have a problem with an HP Envy m6-k125dx.

The first step to troubleshoot it is to test the monitor (according to HP support).

Their product specs say it has an HDMI port.
but not what kind of HDMI port it is.

What type of HDMI port is on the HP Envy m6-k125dx?

Then I can order an adapter to see if the monitor is the problem.

I need an adapter that will fit a 15 pin VGA. The monitor will also accept the other plugin with more pins (whatever that is called)

So I need whatever type of HDMI port the HP Envy m6-k125dx has that will connect to a normal computer monitor?

What do I need to test this monitor?

Also, I don't get any access to BIOS or any of that stuff. So when I turn on the computer pressing Esc or F11 won't even show anything on the screen. Is the ability to read the monitor at that point related to a bad video card. It is just a black screen. not even a cursor shows

Anyway, I need to start the troubleshooting process and I need to know which adapter to get.

There were a lot of very old posts on this topic but no fresh ones, and hardware and software have moved on.  But the problem remains! So I am starting a new thread for a current solution. Trying to connect new ASUS monitor to my HP Envy laptop using Windows 10. I can use an adapter off a USB port into the monitor's VGA input, but I would like to do HDMI to HDMI (Monitor has HDMI input, Computer has only HDMI, no other outputs except USB.) When I try to do this (of course monitor then is set for HDMI input), the computer does not discover the monitor. It also does not see the speakers in the audio settings. What should I do?

A:HP Envy laptop does not recognize external monitor in HDMI-H...

Check the device manager under display adapters. Sometimes on a Windows 10 update you get Microsoft Basic which will not activate the HDMI port and you need to get the correct driver for the video. It would also help if we had the full model number or Product Number.

The screen on my new laptop has gone blank on starting up, it shows nothing, i tried a hard reset which didn't fix. The external monitor won't display anything.
It's a HP envy 15-j112tx running windows 8. With a hdmi connection i tried to connect to an external monitor. The monitor was previously using vga to a desktop, i unplugged that and connected my dvi cable to the dvi port. The monitor says check video connection then goes to sleep. I connected the cables with the laptop turned off and again with the laptop already on. The monitor still says check video connection. The connection is secure, it is a new cord. I pressed the F4 button to switch between screens and waited inbetween presses but still nothing.

It is still under warranty. I disabled the nvidia graphics card a few days ago to try n save on power usage, as it also has an intel graphics card. It has worked fine for a few days since i did that.
Now that i've powered it on/off about 5 times the hard drive stops whirring after about a minute, yet the power button light remains on. It no longer turns off when i hold power for even a minute. I dont want to kill the thing.

Can anyone help me, i can't find an answer in previous threads.

Hi all, I work IT for a US HQ company and we have a user in our smaller London office who has a T470 and he is trying to connect 2 external displays to it.  Both displays are Dell P2210 https://noteboox.de/mediafiles/Sonstiges/Dell-Professional-P2210-Users-Guide.pdf which have 1 VGA, 1 DVI-D and one DIsplayPort. We don't have any T470's here in US that I can test to replicate his issue on. The T470 has an HDMI port and a USB-C port. He currently has one of the monitors successfully connected via a HDMI(male) to VGA(F) adapter. When he tries to connect his 2nd monitor via the USB-C the PC will not detect it. He is using a USB-C to DIsplayPort cable  USB Type C(Thunderbolt 3) to DisplayPort [email protected] UHD 6 Feet CableFrom all I have read on this machine, it should be able to use the USB-C and HDMI port at the same time for video. I don't want to just tell him to go get a different cable, as I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing here. The T470 does support video over USB-C am I correct? All the specs sheet says on the 470 is "Lenovo USB-C to VGA adapter, optional." This is not very helpful and does not specify if it will support video over other means, nor if this "Lenovo adapter" is a converter or simply an adapter.  Can someone please help me pinpoint where my issue might be? Thanks.

A:Cannot use external monitor on USB-C port (ThinkPad T470)

I'm having the same problem with that dock on x1 Carbons. What's odd is that the computer thinks the second monitor is working fine. If I Remte Desktop into the computer I can use the second monitor fine. The Monitor even wakes up when the computer boots but then displays 'no signal detected' after searching it's available ports.

Hello - I wish to connect my 24" Dell monitor (it has every port imaginable) to my Lenovo Yoga 720 WITHOUT using the Thunderbolt port. Is this possible? I am a Jazz musician and I with to use the external display for (1) reading complicatedf [e.g., classical piano] sheet music and (2) for use with DAWs (digital audio workstations, such as Abelton, Pro Tools, etc., where there is LOTS of info crammed in tight and a large monitor is needed). My Yoga's TB port is used for a 500 gig Samsung external hard drive.  The Samsung houses my music programs (e.g., the DAWs, Ivory piano, Easy Drummer, etc.), and I placed them there for the fast speed (this really helps eliminate the latency on the pianos).  I don't need fast speed with the monitor; my prior Lenovo G780 worked just fine with my 24" Dell monitor; the G780 had an HDMI port. I don't find a "TB dock" that has (1) HDMI, display port, etc. AND (2) another TB port.  Does such a thing exist? I've tried the crappy "USB montitors."  They (1) suck and (2) are not 24". Am I screwed here? Thanks, - Jeff Newton (Jazz saxophonist and pianist)

I have Lenovo B540 All-In-One (Windows 8) whose monitor is cracked and the screen is black. I'm trying to still use the computer or at least access the hard drive by attaching a second monitor through the HDMI Out connect slot in the back. So I purchased the "DVI-D to HDMI (or vice versa)" cable (Dynex brand) for $40 from BestBuy and made the connection to my DVI monitor.

Well, Lenovo turns on but is not recognizing the second monitor! Should it automatically recognize the second monitor or are there some steps involved like pressing down on certain function keys (like you would in laptops)? I've perused Lenovo's hardware support manual but they don't explain proper steps.

Does anyone know what the proper steps are when the original monitor is not working? I know for sure the computer itself is working; it's making all the right Windows start-up noise. No, the computer is not passworded so it should go in straight.

Would it be easier to connect to the TV via HDMI? Would I then need HDMI cables?

Thanks everyone for any suggestions you might have to offer.

Hi I'm new here and I have a problem. I recently followed instructions on a website to speed up windows xp and I disabled some service/processes. I wanted to know which process is used to connect an IBM Thinkpad R40 laptop with XP SP3 to an external TV. I tried several cables and monitors and tvs, but nothing works! It worked a few days ago. My lower palmrest and lower buttons were removed before this happened- could this be a cause? I already tried all the Display things and everything, but it doesn't work. My TV says 'PC' under sources, but then it just shows a black screen whenever I go on it and press FN and F7 and turn it on in the Display window. I also tried other monitors and they still don't work. PLEASE HELP ME THANKS A BUNCH

A:What service/process is used to connect to an external monitor/TV through DVI port?

Are you using the correct DVI cable (there are several configurations of DVI connectors).
See this: All About DVI

Also, avoid the use of a VGA-to-DVI adaptor -- they are very unreliable.

I bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 in December and I wanted to connect it to an external monitor via the thunderbolt port. I bought an type c to hdmi adapter off amazon and it connects. (Actually bought 2 and the problem persists). But occasionally both my screen and laptop will turn black then back on again. This causes my video that i'm playing to either freeze/crash (netflix/youtube) which is SUPER annoying. It goes from occasional to quite often. It's really random.

My drivers are up to date, cable is new and the monitor is new from boxing day.

Any help is appreciated :)

then a VGA to VGA cable

A:Need to connect Satellite U945-S4110 to external monitor's VGA-IN port

> What do I need?

Well, the notebook supports only the HDMI out port. This port sends the digital video and audio signal.

In case your external monitor supports only the RGB-in (VGA) port, you would need to use some kind of adapter/converter which would be able to convert the HDMI digital signal to VGA analogue signal.

I don?t know if the adaptor would work but you will not get the sound because VGA does not support the audio signal, only video.

I recently purchased an XPS 15 9550 with i7, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, and GTX 960m dGPU that I have connected to a 27-inch QNIX qx2710 2560x1440p external monitor. I have this connected through a Cable Matters USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to DVI-D adapter and cable.
The monitor and everything seem to work fine at 60hz, except for every time I unplug, turn on, or restart the monitor/computer the first five or ten minutes of use is plagued with constant screen flickering and flashing. After ~five minutes the monitor seems to stabilize and will only rarely have a single screen flicker.
I have read other forum threads describing similar issues with different monitors/cable setups and that there is likely an issue between the wifi card and thunderbolt port. The common recommendation is to turn down the wifi output percent to 75%, however the Killer wifi card on this computer does not have an option under advanced settings to turn down the power output. Has anyone had any luck doing this on a recently purchased XPS 15 with the Killer wifi card?
The cables and adapters are new and the BIOS and all drivers are up to date. Other than the wifi issue, does anyone have suggestions or solutions to this screen flickering problem?

Attached to the VGA I have a lot of flickering problems bu the reolution it's OK.

How can I use the DVI and get the right resolution (like in VGA mode) but without flickering ?

I guess the Toshiba ATI driver does not support the 1680x1050 resolution.
The only way to get the 1680x1050 resolution is to install another driver.

maybe you will find here a working one.

System is a Latitude E5570 in E-Port Plus II dock, connected to two Dell U2515H monitors via Display Port.

I have followed all instructions in this knowledgebase article: www.dell.com/.../blanking--flickering-or-blinking-video-issues-on-external-monitor-for-dell-latitude-exx70-exx40--precision-xx10-systems
Unfortunately, no remedy yet.
All graphics drivers are up to date, based on offered driver downloads for my system.
A Latitude E6530 does not show this issue when docked in the same dock with the monitor configuration unchanged. The monitor only blinks when E5570 is in dock. Blinking is irregular, sometimes a few times a minute, sometimes every few minutes, sometimes only each hour.
Changed Display Port cable to primary monitor, did not help.
Monitors are not daisy chained, but connected individually to dock to allow older systems to dock.
Would appreciate any advice.

A:Unresolved 2-3s blinking of external monitor at Dell E-Port Plus II Dock

We had this issue and it was resolved by a firmware update to the MST hub built into the system.  Go to support.dell.com, select your system, select Drivers and Downloads, and search "MST".  Note that sometimes if the OS selected by default there is the one you want, you have to choose some other OS and then switch back for anything to appear.  Anyway, the update you're looking for is Synaptics-VMM3320-MST-HUB-Firmware-Updater_DJG3X_WIN_3.12.1_A03.EXE.  I'd post a link, but most of the time that causes posts to get stuck in moderator queues.  Note that when you run the update, you have to have the system docked with an external display connected and in use, and then restart afterward.

Hello everyone,

I am having some trouble with my Tecra M11 with an external monitor going through a Express Port Replicator II.

It is very specific, but i am running texlive 2010 on my laptop for writing a thesis. Whenever i use my laptop screen the functionality is fine, and it runs very quickly, with no lag when i compile my document. Upon docking it into my docking station at work to use on a large monitor, whenever i use the same program, it slows up a lot, eventually causing the program to crash. Its frustrating to lose lots of your thesis like this! When i connect the external screen straight to the laptop, it works fine again.

Something is going wrong in the docking station. Does anyone know how i can correct this? Im a little confused, and out of ideas. maybe i driver or something im not aware of. Maybe my docking station is defective?

A:Tecra M11-LaTeX runs slow on external monitor using Express Port Replicator

Which port do you use on port replicator? VGA or DVI?

It will not be easy to offer answer to your question. It is not possible to test all available software with docking station and search for solutions.
I would say: bad luck.

I have dual monitors......my primary display monitor is a Chimei CMV223D

My primary display monitor which usually has a display resolution of 1680x1050 is currently stuck on 640x480 and in the property settings it won't let me change the resolution. The cable running from the Graphics card is an HDMI cable with a HDMI/DVI converter. I have also tried using the DVI port of the video card to the DVI port of the PC which comes up with same problem. Using a DVI/VGA converter and a VGA cable the VGA port on the monitor works fine!!! SOOOO long story short there is definitely something going on with the monitors DVI port.........

This randomly occurred overnight and is driving me insane to know what I need to fix. I have used different cables and to no such luck. My secondary monitor is just humming away just fine! But I really need my primary display.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers for the graphics card which is the Catalyst control centre suite and all monitor drivers appear to be up to date.

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

One of four USB3 ports will not work, hardware test yielded: FAILURE ID : 9U7F7S-8388GQ-XD7X6J-8D7D03 The window that pops up when any flash drive is plugged in says: "USB device not recognized. the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." I was on hold with tech support twice, the first time Mike told me they do not support USB problems and hung up. The second time I was on hold for 10 minutes, someone from the call center came on to take my information and call back number and I was disconnected after someone picked up the phone. I hope I can get somewhere with the posts, the unit is supposed to have a 12 month warranty with support. So far the support is a zero out of 10 and we have 3 months left on the warranty. Thanks for any help I can get.

Hi everyone,I have a HP Envym6-1256sf, and i would like to add a SSD drive in addition to the main HDD drive. My problem is that i don't know for sure that there is a mSata port in my computer. I have removed the back panels, it looks like this : I think that the area circled in red is a mSata port, but i am not sure. Here are two close-up of what i think is a mSata port :Could please tell me wether is it a mSata port or not ?I haven't found a page in the manual that talks about a mSata port. If it is really a mSata port, how do i know the size of the drive i can put in there ?  Thanks,Rog

Hi there,Can someone help me?I've had my all-in-one for about two years and never tried to use the HDMI port. Only now that I bought an LG ultrawide monitor (to use as a second monitor) and it doesn't work. It doesn't even detect/recognize the monitor when I plug it in, but the monitor works fine with my laptop computer. What can I do?

I recently bought an HP Envy m7, and I setup an external monitor. I recently had a BIOS update, which I think broke the HDMI port. I connected the port to a projecter, and it still does not get any input through the HDMI. I've tried multiple cables, and none of them work. My monitor I'm using is an LG IPS Flatron monitor. When I plug in the HDMI, it tells me it's not receiving anything to diplay. I've used Windows Key + P to switch it to extend mode, but it doesn't work.

I have a HP Envy 700-147c.  I noticed I don't have a FireWire i.LINK IEEE 1394 cable port to transfer my Sony HDV-1080i video camera foottage. The capture programs I use will not pickup USB transfered signals.  I understand I need to purchase and install hardware into an slot. Can I get some info on products I can purchase? My questions are:Which is best, x1 or x16?Do I need the low profile?Do I need to have a power connection to it?Will I need any additional software? Thanks in advance for your help.

A:HP Envy 700-147c installing a firewire port

Yes, it can be done.  Firewire is going by the wayside just buy an add-on card that fits in the one of the 3 PCI Express x1 (Gen2.0)  should work just fine.  Here is an examplehttps://www.amazon.com/Ports-Firewire-IEEE1394-Controller-firewire/dp/B00312MXRM/ref=pd_lpo_147_bs_l... Or this one:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006B8C3/ref=psdc_284717_t3_B00312MXRM

A:HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j185nr - Port Replicator

LandonM wrote:... designed for the HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j185nr notebook. ....Hi, No, you will never find one which is designed for your machine. Your machine does not have docking port therefore you can use any USB port replicator. HP has some products, the following one is very popular              http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=5278439 Regards.

Hello, I have an HP Envy M7 that just stopped working for no reason. The AC Port light blinks 3 times when I press the power button. I tried removing the battery unplugging adapter and held the power button for 30 seconds but this did not help. I tested the Power Adapter and it is working correctly. I then replaced the AC Power jack and still had the same problem. I ordered a refurbished motherboard and installed it and still have the same problem. I did check the Ram in another computer and it worked. Any other suggestions? I guess its possible that the replacement board I got was faulty. Im a little frustrated as I have dissasembled and reassembled this thing so many times. THanks for your help, Dominick
