I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I am having some issues regarding my laptop's brightness. Firstly, when I turn my laptop on, the brightness is always on pitch black so I can't see the screen. I have been on to all the settings and put the brightness as max for both when it is plugged into power, and not. And yet each time I switch it on, the brightness isn't on and the screen is completely black. Secondly, my brightness buttons are the wrong way round, so the button I should press to reduce the brightness actually increases it, and the button I should press to increase the brightness actually decreases it.Again I have looked in the settings and can't find anything there to change them - I haven't downloaded or installed anything that should have changed them, I literally use the laptop for microsoft office and the internet.  Please help

My Hp Envy 14 has an issue suddenly. The volume buttons and the brightness buttons do not work. All other buttons work fine. It does not seem to be a physical malfunction but rather a software or driver function. I recently installed an update 4/4/17.  The update was Microsoft Framework 4.6.1. Should I uninstall this? Get a new driver? Please direct me

A:Probook 450 fn + brightness not working

Did you just install Windows 7 on it or had the brightness key been working and just stopped? The brightness adjustment depends on the video driver and also on the Hotkey Support driver here: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=5359407&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3DswEnvOID%253D4058%257CswLang%253D%257Caction%253DlistDriver&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken So I would reinstall the Intel chipset driver, the video (AMD or Intel) and the Hotkey driver and see if it clears up the problem. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Display brightness controls on your ProBook 440 G2 are controlled by a key combination fn+f9 (brightness down) and fn+f10 (brightness up).  Check the user document here - page 12 diagram.  There are no keyboard-based contrast controls.

Product: F9H96UAR#ABAModel: 15-g012dx I have had this laptop for about a year and a half and have had issues with the brightness buttons not working before.  Usually I could get them working again by restarting my laptop.   Now my brightness and volume buttons won't work at all even after I restart.  I can get the brightness and volume to change in settings and by clicking the volume button on the bottom right corner of the screen, but pressing the f buttons does nothing.  The only f button that seems to be working is f1 (?).  I have looked on a bunch of forums and there is a wealth of advice regarding installing drivers, rebooting, etc., but many of the links they suggest are out of date and lead nowhere.  Can anyone help me with this?

Dear Customer,Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum It looks like you are not able to Power ON the Notebook and wanted to fix the issuePlease perform below shown steps to find out if this is a software or hardware issue:1. Remove all Peripherals and Cables, Disconnect them and try to Power ON the Unit 2. Check for LED Light Status and ensure Power Button spring action is normal 3. Swap with a known good Power Cord and Power Adapter 4. Incase no Adapter is available, Check if the Power Adapter is slightly warmNote: This will give us a hint that the Power Adapter might be fine 5. Do you know if the Notebook was in Battery or Power Adapter Mode when you used it for the last timeNote: Ensure there is no liquid spillage or Power Outage 6. Check if the AC Adapter Port is loose/broken Note: If the Notebook doesn't Power ON even with a known good Power Adapter this confirms the Hardware fault with System Board or the DC Power Circuit  Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again **Click the 'Thumbs Up Button' to say Thanks** Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R KAlthough I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP

So I have two Dell Inspiron (all-in-one) 3030’s that we cannot adjust the brightness on via the buttons on the right hand side. When the issue appeared on the first PC I thought maybe the buttons were broken and since it was out of warranty I simply dimmed the screen via the Intel graphics adapter settings. Fast forward to a few weeks later when another machine (same model) got his with a Crytpo virus and I had to do a clean install and now it too has the same problem. I installed all the drivers from Dells site but now I have two computer computers in where the brightness buttons on the right hand side don’t work. Everything including the BIOS is up to date but that got me wondering….Is there anything special that needs to be installed for those buttons to work specifically? Typically hardware buttons just work.
I would call Dell but they are out of warranty by a few months.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Intel HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68001-68500/sp68117.exe When done, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73501-74000/sp73543.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, do not restart as prompted, instead open your Downloads folder, right click the Intel Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

I recently updated my AMD display driver (Radeon 7640G I think) and now my brightness buttons, keyed to F2 and F3 are not working. The rest of my buttons are working fine so it is not the keyboard. I also cannot change it when I press the battery button on my taskbar (both brightness and battery saver are unavailable). This is a major issue because now my screen it at the lowest brightness possible and I have to work with my lights off (and even then it's still difficult to see). I tried updating my drivers but there was nothing available to update. I've been trying to update drivers for my HP printer though both updates receive an error message:   (1)  Hewlett-Packard - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Print - HP ENVY 7640 series - Error 0x8024200b (2) HP driver update for Fax - HP ENVY 7640 series - Error 0x80240017 Microsoft Support tried to help with the error message (and reportedly tried to fix Windows Update) but after they "helped" me this brightness issue starting occurring. If it means anything, when my computer boots up, a new screen appears that says something about Watch Dogs. That used to never appear until MS. I'm not sure if that is the issue though.  Thanks!

When I got it back everything was in working order with Windows 10 except the top row of keys that control volume, brightness and the ability to pause, rewind and skip songs now solely does the standard system commands of f1-f10 *caret browsing on/of, find in page, etc* Im not sure if they worked the first time I tried to upgrade because I couldn't even log on to my computer after I upgraded the first time so I reformatted. How can I make those keys usable for volume and brightness again? Thank you!

Hi guys,

The following set of exes allow you to map custom buttons on laptops to Windows shortcut commands . Currently supported is : to increase and decrease volume/brightness by a single click . Quick brightness change is great for long gaming or development sessions on the pc !

I have been missing that feature badly.

Also sending shortcuts i.e ALT+TAB is supported.

You need your laptop to have the software that can map the button to the exe.

This is donationware so all help is appreciated.

My screen brightness using FN+F11/F12 and also in the advanced power settings slider won't adjust the screen to anything other than brightness and minimum or brightness to 100% when I move the slider.  It shows the percentage moving up and down, but the screen stays 100% until I'm on the lowest setting,  then it goes right to minimum.  I received a bunch of Lenovo updates on the first Wednesday of this month and I've had several issues since then, I tried reverting back to previous drivers, but it made no difference, so I'm back on the latest drivers.

Windows 7 pre-installed

Beginning today, I opened my laptop from sleep and noticed the display was at its lowest brightness setting. I then tried to restart it to see if that would solve it, no luck. I did some googling and found out it could be a problem with the graphics driver. I then disabled it and enabled it. Now the brightness is at its max settings.

The function (FN) + F4, F5 (the keys to adjust the brightness settings) do nothing. The brightness status will show up on the screen and only change 1 or 2 notches.

I then realized I should have a way to adjust the brightness via the Power Settings in the Control Panel. I even confirmed this with a friend. I should have the sliders to adjust the brightness but I do not. It's very strange.

This is the screenshot from my friend:

A:[SOLVED] Can't adjust brightness, missing brightness sliders

Hello,

I would suggest uninstalling the graphics driver and get the latest driver from the Dell Support site installed.
