SSD Benchmarks going OVER Rated Speeds!

Q: SSD Benchmarks going OVER Rated Speeds!

Previous Motherboard: Asus M3A78-T
OS: Win 7 x64
SSD: Kingston Technology Company - SSDNow Product Information - SSDNow V Series Drive 128GB ? 200MB/sec. read; 160MB/sec. write

When I FIRST got my SSD (with setup above) my benchmarks were pretty much at what the stated specs were...overtime it slowed down (no matter what i did, yes TRIM is on), to about 160MB/read...

I'm currently testing another motherboard (with same SSD, OS, all else same) the new motherboard is Foxconn A7DA-S...the motherboard is sent in from a warranty claim, anyways the bios that is on here is P02 which isn't even listed on foxconn's website (the oldest is P03)...The info says this bios is from 2008...anyways moving on..

With this bios/mobo + SSD, i'm getting 230MB/second benchmarks!!! WTF??? How can it go OVER the stated specs?

Just curious, I updated it to the newest bios, and right after the bios was updated I ran the benchmarks again, and it dropped back down to 160-170MB (same as the asus Board)....WTF?

So curious again...I "downgrade" the bios to the P02 one, and the benchmarks jump back up to 230MB/second...What is going on? Is this really happening? If so why?

Thanks!

I would like to add that the benchmark results are both with HD Tune and AS-SSD.

The results are similar for both (when one is 160MB, so is the other, and etc)

So I have to ask, am i REALLY getting 230MB/second sequential read right now? How is that even possible?

edit:

I like to add that
When the benchmarks report 160MB ballpark, the associated access times are .4 ms and 19-20% CPU usage

When the benchmarks are around 220MB ballpark, the associated access times are .2 ms and only 10.4% cpu usage!!!!

those are some very drastic performance gains, but why? are they even real?

Preferred Solution: SSD Benchmarks going OVER Rated Speeds!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: SSD Benchmarks going OVER Rated Speeds!

I would reccomend doing some research on the benchmarking programs your using to see if others are satisfied with the reults then if so just accept your gains and be happy.

Recently in the past few days my load speed for webpages has been sporadically terrible. Sometimes it will be fine, but other times it will take absolutely ages to load the page and then sometimes not even load it at all, and not load pictures, etc, as well as online streaming, which has always been fine for me and something I used to do often with no lag, has been lagging and buffering nonstop.

But meanwhile, even when the load speeds and stream speeds are horrible, my ping and general internet performance outside of browser-based things seems to be fine. I can see constant ping on one program and it has always reacted when my internet is poor, spiking high or just generally showing high numbers, but it always stays low, and I can see just based on reaction speed on internet programs as well as experience no lag whatsoever on online games that the internet speed seems to be fine outside of browser-based activities. I have tried different browsers, and this problem persists on my laptop as well as my new and fairly decent PC so I don't think it is a computer problem.

I've even tried booting into safe mode with networking and loading pages and when it is bad it remains bad even in safe mode, failing to load even pictures on some websites.

So I can't understand why the internet would be so poor sometimes when surfing the internet and yet at the same times that it is poor it is fine elsewhere. I can play an online game and not lag whatsoever while loading a we... Read more

My computer has extremely slow download speeds, upload speeds are fine. Ping is always at ~10-20ms. (to Google) The problem has nothing to do with, my ISP, my router, my type of connection. I know this for a fact.

I've tried multiple network adapters. USB WiFi, integrated WiFi, connecting through another PC via ethernet, they all give the same result.

I'm guessing this is a problem with some software on the PC itself, as it seems to not be a hardware problem.

All other devices on the network have perfectly fine speeds, including Ethernet and WiFi connected devices.
I also cannot connect this PC to Ethernet, would take hours.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

My new HP laptop 15-ac114nx [Intel Core i3 @ 2.00GHz, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD] running Windows 10 64 bit has a serious wifi problem. Ever since I have bought the laptop Wifi internet speeds seem to be comparitively very slow on battery than when plugged in. I have a 20 Mbps connection which provides a reasonable browsing and download speed on all my other devices. The issue with this laptop is that when running on battery and connected using wifi even opening a webpage such as facebook or youtube takes an awfully lot of time lets say like 5 to 10 seconds and sometimes much more, whereas if I do the same with the power cord plugged in, the web pages appear as soon as I click their links(i.e. Vey Fast/Instantaneously).  To add further clarity to the situation I tested the download speed of a particular file while running on battery and with the cord plugged in. I started the download of a file [Java Development Kit ~ 160MB] using chrome with the cord plugged in and navigated to the chrome downloads page to monitor the download progress. The download speed was about 1000-1200 Kbps. Midway through the download I removed the power cord. Immediately the speeds dropped down to 20-30Kbps and sometimes even much lower.  After approximately 10 seconds I plugged the cord back in and wow the download speed went back up to approx a 1000 Kbps. After sometime I removed the cord again and as a result the speed dropped down again. Plugged the cord again and it rose back up. NOw this c... Read more

Hi there, i was wondering if you could help me this problem i've been having for the past 3 days now. I recently downgraded from Vista to XP, and ever since then i've had download speeds of 5kb/s or less. Before now, i couldn't get onto anywebsites because it would time out, things like www.yahoo.com would take about 5 minutes to open properly. I did notice that when i was asked which partition to install XP on there was 2 sub partitions on the C drive for some reason. Anyway long story short, i managed to fix it by using the format option from booting the pc with the vista installation disk, then put xp in etc.
So, browsing speeds are normal for me, but i can't get on my online games because it just times out due to the slow download speeds, and anything large in size takes extremely long to download even with internet download manager, I've been waiting 10+ minutes for windows live messenger to finish downloading and installing and it still hasn't done so.
If you could have a look at my hijack this log and let me know what you see wrong it'd be much appreciated thanks.
Not sure if this is to do with a virus, ran AVG, Malawarebytes etc and they haven't picked anything up.

Hello, I have a brand new HP Probook 430 G3 which is working and performing just great, the only problem is its strange cooling fan sound. The problem is that it speeds up and speeds down constantly without any visible reason. (Please note that its not a normal behavior when coolers change speed based on higher cpu temperature). The interval between speeding up and down is less that a second and it is constant. So just imagine when cooler runs on higher speed it's not smooth as supposed to be but kind of waving/floating.  I'm not sure with speeds laptos fans run, but if visualize the problem it will look something as illustrated below    Steps taken: Updated the BIOS to the latest version - didn't help. Turnet the "Fan Always on while AC Power" - sounds same. Can anybody suggest anything to diagnose the fan issue? Mayble there are some fan diagnostincs tools available or something else what can help.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi all, this is a doozy that I can't seem to solve.

When I have my laptop hooked up to my router via ethernet, my download speeds are around 15mbps. When I'm wireless (and three rooms away from the router), it's around 18mbps. Obviously it's not a huge difference, but I know that there SHOULD be a huge difference between the two, but in the other direction. What could be limiting my wired capabilities?

For the record, the ethernet cables I'm using may not exactly be ideal. For one, an ethernet cable connects my router to the modem, and that's an old ethernet cable that came with an Xbox 360 back in 2008. The ethernet cable I was using to connect the laptop to the router is the same kind from the same scenario. They say Category 5 on them, so I imagine they aren't Cat5e or anything. Wondering if an aged, slower cable connecting the router and modem would just be hindering my speeds overall, plus the question about wired being slower than wireless as opposed to significantly faster.

A:My wireless speeds are faster than my wired speeds!

Why? What's your ISP's advertized download speed?

An aging ethernet cable could be a problem. The only way to know is to compare with a known good cable.

But I am getting 2mbps download speed and about 18 mbps upload speeds on my desktop pc.The verizon guy came here and said the router configuration was correct and so was the ethernet cable. He plugged the cable to his laptop and was getting download speeds of about 30mbps so something is wrong with my computer only but I cant figure what.

I removed mcafee as I read it could be a problem. Now I have microsoft security suite but it did not help.I have removed Ipv6 too but that has not helped either.

Thanks appreciate your help.

I just got a new laptop and was wondering what kinds of benchmarks would be good to make sure it performs as well as it should. I'd like to know how to compare it to similarly configured laptops in games and multimedia applications.

Also, is there a way for me to see the make of RAM I have. I know how to find out the amount, but it never says the manufacturer.

A:Benchmarks

A quick search for laptop benchmark came up with this CNet page. It shows how they benchmark their laptops, and what programs they use to do it. Worth giving a quick read, at least.

To find out the make of your ram, you can run CPU-Z. It's free, you can download it by clicking the link under 'latest version' in the top left corner of that page. When you run it, click the SPD tab, and it will show vendor information, if it's possible to show it for your system. Some RAM manufacturers don't show, I think. Otherwise, you could just open your memory access panel on your laptop, and take the sticks out (while the laptop is off, of course), there should be a sticker or model number or something on them. Put the number into Google and see what comes up. Good luck!

I have seen postings about computers being slow. Are there any benchmarks that one can use to see if the computer is running as well as expected, given the RAM and the processor speed? Many thanks.

A:Speed benchmarks?

When people say there computer is running slow, they normally mean its running 'slower' than it used to and want to know why. This is normally down to spyware, background processes, fragged harddrive plus any number of things.

As for benchmarking, there are many types Dhrystone, Whetstone, PCMark, plus ones for graphics cards (3D mark), look at the following sites www.futuremark.com and www.sisoftware.net.

However be aware that whole subject of benchmarking is a bit more subjective, the same cpu on a different motherboard will give different benchmarks even though the cpu is clocked the same. So just because your setup doesnt give exactly the same as someone with 'apparently' the same setup, its not worth trying to track down why (all very clever electronic magic)! Oh and benchmarks do not always represent a true real-life performance.

A couple of weeks ago I tried unsuccessfully to install Visual Studio 6 on my XP Home SP2 box. Since then, the performance has been poor. One thing probably has nothing to do with the other but that's when I started to notice that Firefox took 10 to 15 seconds to load and the XP splash screen stayed up longer on a reboot. I've defragmented and run and error check on the hard drive and it has no bad sectors. This evening I downloaded FreshDiagnose and benchmarked the read and write speeds of the hard drive. The read speed is excellent -- over 200 MB/s but the write speed is pathetic -- 3.47 MB/s. This is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB SATA-II drive (the parallel recording technology.)

The CD benchmarks are pretty low too. I have a Memorex 16X DL DVD+-RW but the read speed is 3.67 MB/s.

These are all connected to Gigabyte 965SP motherboard having a Pentium D 3.4 gHz processor. Not overclocked and the temps and fan speeds are within normal ranges.

Any ideas? Thanks.

How do I go about improving a CIS score? I'm confused about the benchmarks. Is this just a list of recommended settings?

A:Belarc: CIS Benchmarks?

You'd need to change the settings that are shown as failing. They give a description of each, but don't mention where to change them though.
Many are set using the Local Security Policy tool, or the Group Policy Editor. Neither of which comes with XP Home. You can edit the registry directly to change settings though.

This link lists many of the registry keys that have to be edited directly, and lists the recommended settings.
For XP Home, the Group Policy Settings Reference spreadsheet can be searched for a specific setting to find the key to set in XP Home.

To set File permissions, you need to turn off simple file sharing (Control Panel | Folder Options | View, uncheck Use simple file sharing, last item). For XP Home, you'll need to reboot to safe mode to see the security tab, or download the two reg files from this post of Elvandil's. Be sure to run the undo reg file when done.

These are just recommendations, and are geared more for a business environment rather than a home environment. The Auditing settings for example, forcing users to change passwords, only allowing strong passwords, minimum length, etc, might not be useful at home.

My score has never been higher than 1.88.

I just upgraded due to a PIII 450MHZ chip ceasing to function. I went to a PIII 650E chip on the Gigabyte GA-6VXE+ motherboard. I had the same motherboard with the PIII 450 and it was working fine for about a year, and that upgrade was from a micro-ATX motherboard for more slots and higher max on the CPU upgrade. When I took the computer in to have it checked for not booting they originally thought it was the motherboard and replaced it with a new one, but later found that it was the processor. So the Gigabyte GA-6VXE+ motherboard and the PIII 650E chip are new. I had just re-formatted the hard drive for a fresh start and installed the normal programs and Norton Utilities 2000. Under the Norton UT 2000 system benchmarks my PIII 650 was getting fluctuating benchmarks from anywhere between 50.0 to 301.0. The computer's performance also coincided with whatever system benchmark that came up running slow with low system benchmarks and normal with the high benchmarks. I thought at first it may be the voltage supplied to the CPU but the motherboard is auto detecting voltage. I feel that I'm heading down the same road as my previous processor, and while everything is still under warranty, I want this taken care of as soon as possible. Can you help?

Curious about the relative performance of two of my computers, I have made the comparison using benchmark software I have on hand. Fresh Diagnose is the latest release, 5.80.

Here are the results:

Computer #1

ASUS Motherboard
Ext. Clock 66 MHz

Fresh Diagnose Benchmark:
412 MWIPS
1538 MDIPS
Speed 501

Callmark BM System test:

Computer #1
VIA Cyrex 667 MHz
Soyo SY-7ISA+ Motherboard
Ext. Clock 133 MHz

Fresh Diagnose Benchmark:

15 MWIPS
816 MDIPS
Speed 669

Callmark BM System test:
1728
------------------
Assuming these benchmarks are valid tests of system performance, is there something I can to improve the performance on the SY-7ISA+ system (Computer #2)?

I've set jumpers for the automatic detection of processor speed. What is the correct PCI clock setting and clock ratio for this processor? I'm using 133Mhz X5.

Does a Celeron processor provide improved performance over a similar speed VIA Cyrex?

Is there a better benchmark test for these systems? I believe Computer #2 should outperform Computer #1, but maybe I'm missing something.

I was looking at this article that was comparing benchmarks of low-end processors. Generally they looked at Celeron, P4, Duron, and Athlon processors on the Anandtech website:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1927&p=12

This test showed that the 1.6Gig Duron Processor and the P4 1.8A Gig Processor both out performed the Intel Celeron Processors. They only tested the one P4 Processor, and it was the cheapest one available on the market. I think a slower P4 processor would actually be a better buy, but Intel just does not make them. They would be a better buy than the Celeron's Available.

The Bottom line is a Celeron is not worth buying. They are basically junk. I think a 256k L2 Cache would significantly improve their performance. The present 128k L2 cache is just not large enough for the processor speed. So Buyer beware.

The 300a Celeron was the only worthwhile Celeron chip. It could OC to 450 & wasn't as crippled as the new versions have been ( slow FSB, small & crippled Cache, overall lackluster performance ).

For people that only use the PC for Office work, I guess it's not so bad. They don't heat much so they generally have very silent cooling systems.

Other then that, I don't see why anyone would want such a chip.

Hi everybody.
this is my first post on TechSpot...
and I`d like to ask a question(or two or three):what about the x1950pro AGP?
anybody seen it work?
benchmarks?
avalability?(europe/germany)
will it really be coming?
Have I spent 200.-? on the wrong card?([email protected])

A:x1950pro AGP!anyone seen any benchmarks?

Funny thing, we were just discussing this in the Socket 478 thread in the cpu/chipset forum.

I don't believe there is any hard data on this and it's likely just a rumor right now. Similar rumors occurred when Diamond made a typo on their website and listed an X1800 as AGP when it was a cut/paste job overlooked from an X800 HTML page they modified for the X1800.

I'd imagine hkpc or Tom's/Anannd's will get some solid info should there actually be any hint of an AGP based X1950. For now, it looks like the X1650 series will get the best chance of an AGP flavor.. but the X1950 is still only "rumor" material as I know of no local oem's with even so much as a future SKU or partner hint for the units.

Hi everyone.
I`m out here hoping anyone could help me with my problem..
So. My R9 280X one day stopped working properly. It allows to launch the PC and use it. But when i launch any game it works until any 3D action happens. Couple of times i`ve launched GAUNTLET and saw a lot of ARTIFACTS in menu, whcih closes and exits to a desktop.
This happens with every game. It just laggs for a second or two (sound plays tho) And exits to Desk without any information.
Also All the GPU benchmarks Freeze after a few secs of work (sometimes whole PC so i have to restart it). I`ve noticed no exact GPU load or temperature numbers (it stays below 50-55).
But one benchmark (userbenchmark.com) managed to go through and showed extremely poor GPU results of ~10%(way below normal in 3D).
Also when i surf around on my pc quickly(swapping between windows and scrolling intensly) image freezes, turns black for a milisecond and goes back to normal condition as `twas. huh..
I`ve peeked into logs and it says AMDKMDAP stopped responding, which means drivers. (also there are some "kernel" errors if that mean anything..)
I used DDU and installed all kind of drivers which didnt help too. I reinstalled windows even.
Also radeon software shows a notification that it detected more than one displays connected while i`m using one.
I`ve swapped between VGA and HDMI. (before all these happened methinks i used both at the same time once, but i dont think its related.
MemTest didnt show anything to... Read more

Next to that we have energy saving functions disabled for this motherboard and processor (to ensure consistent benchmark results). We use Windows 10 all patched up. The link below will provide guidance for filing complaints:http://onguardonline.gov/filecomplaint.htmlYou should also make sure you "mark as spam" any E-mails that do slip by Yahoo's Spamguard. Most ISPs and E-mail providers make a serious attempt to reduce the huge amount of spam sent each day, but some spammers will find ways to avoid provider's filtres. If your E-mail provider allows you to set up personal filtres, take advantage of that feature.Regards,John

Hi all-

My AMD Athlon XP 1800 use to run at the rated 1.53 ghz without trouble. Then a while back I started having serious lockups and freezing, and finally it wouldn't even post. I've since lowered the fsb from 133MHz to 100mhz, and it runs like a top again, but Ive lost nearly 30 percent of cpu speed, it runs at 1.1 ghz with the fsb at 100mhz. As soon as I change the clock back to 133, either by bios or jumper, it wont even post to the bios, just hangs there. I am almost certain it is not a heat issue, as I blasted the cpu to 40 F with freezit, and it still wouldn't post. I cannot figure out what the deal would be? Any ideas?

I use Google toolbar, it has a popup blocker with it. You can download it here

And if you don't want Google toolbar, you can also use Yahoo, it also have a popup blocker. You can download it here

If you don't want that both, search in Google.com and you'll find a bunch of popup blockers

Hi all,

CPU: P4 2.6c
MOBO: ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
RAM: 512MB Kit PN- OCZ400512ELDC-K [2x256] rated @ 2-3-2-6

I recently attempted to 'just try' the overclocking feature in the BIOS... wanted to simiply test it out... in turn I got quite concerned about my PC stability out of my own parranoia, meaning I didn't get any signs telling me something isn't right...all worked very well I thought.

I then downloaded a bunch of utilities to help me monitor my PC's performance.

Long story [email protected] 10% OverClock, using MBM, I saw that my RAM was only @ 146.xxMHz [x2 = 292.xxMHx]...and latencies @ 2-4-4-8...

I figured, @ that clockspeed, inorder to keep the CAS down to 2, it had to run @ a lower frequency???

Ok ... so I changed the OverCLock back to normal [meaning no overclocking]...booted up, started MBM, and saw that my RAM was now @ about 200MHz [x2 = 400MHz]...and latencies @ 2.5-3-3-6 !!! ???

I never did check these readings before overclocking so I don't know if it was always like this or I messed something up??

Another thing to note:

I then rebooted, entered BIOS setup, and under the OverClocking option there is another option for some sort of 'performance'... I changed it from STANDARD to TURBO... rebooted... got no video signal ... no response.. some beeps... hit the reset button ... again no video ... and that creepy voice came through my left speaker channel saying "system failure due to cpu overclockin... A:Why is my OCZ EL 2-3-2-6 rated RAM running @ 2.5-3-3-6 ??

Each time you choose one of the standard settings, ie "Standard," "Perforance," etc, etc, it auto, auto matically sets RAM timings to pre-determined settings. Unless you have uber fast RAM, turbo almost always screws things up.

Best bet is to set it to expert, and manually adjust them yourself (If you're comfortable with that, you might have to re-set your BIOS once or twice if you push it too far)

Also, if you're going to overclock your RAM, it will need a bit more voltage, might want to kick up the RAM DDR voltage a bit in your BIOS.

Do your research, don't want to hurt anything. Make sure you run some memory intensive benchmarks to test system stability and a safe limit.
Enjoy

Hi folks,

I have just replaced the stock HSF on my machine with a better one. That went fine, but when I went to boot up I got a BIOS screen. There was a message that since the CPU had been replaced (it wasn't), the CPU would start out at 1.3 GHZ. This is an XP2100 which is rated to run at about 1.7 GHZ. The option is then prersented to adjust the speed back up to 1.7 GHZ, which I do. Save changes and exit....

During POST.......I get the audio message (female voice from ASUS)....

"Power on self test failed due to overclocked CPU....."

As I say, at 1.7, this chip is NOT overclocked. Repeated boots yield same message. Right now...the only way to boot the machine is to either go with the minimum option presented of 1.3 or switch to manual on the CPU and UNDER-clock to somewhere lower than 1.7

In short....I can't run my machine at its rated speed since changing the HSF. It thinks I switched CPU and I didn't....all I changed was the HSF.

The specs:

ASUS A7V333 mobo (set to jumper-free mode)
AMD Athlon XP2100
256 MB PC2700 DDR
Thermaltake Volcano 7+ is the new HSF
