Boot Problem - Screen just goes blank after startup Logo

Q: Boot Problem - Screen just goes blank after startup Logo

I'm an in-home computer repair guy (part-time, on the side) with A+.

I'm working on a Dell desktop, Vostro 200, for a small store.
Its their entire sales system, not including the interact machine.

When you start up, you get the normal system beep, see the Dell logo, then the fans all cut to low speed, and the screen goes blank and the fans continue at low speed. I first thought it was the mobo or the power supply, as I blew out a ton of dirt, dust & hairballs. Turns out the hard drive is absolutely the issue... I get the same reaction when I put the HD into a different machine (as the "C" drive), & I can operate the Dell if I put a different HD into it, but then I dont have all the drivers & legitimate CD's I'll need for the store.
I can access the Dell's HD if I put it into another system as a secondary drive.
AVG then detects a few trojans & Win32/Cryptor as well, but wont delete anything (access denied) and Malwarebytes detects nothing at all on the drive.
I dont think its the MBR on the drive, since I can access all the files if its a secondary drive, but I could be wrong.
I'm leary of wiping the HD for a re-install, since I don't have the drivers for it handy, (I know I can D/L them) nor the legitimate CD's for the stores programs.

Is there any suggestions I didn't think of?
Should I just give it back to them without proceeding?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I tried to update new drivers for my AMD Radeon R5 GPU and had to stop in the middle, thus partially installing the drivers. I went to install them again and left them to install. I came back later and there was nothing but a blank screen. I restarted the PC and the HP boot logo came up and afterwards, there was absolutely nothing. What do I do?!

Hi! Any help would be much appreciated. Recently I installed Windows 10 on the laptop. Soon after the device began to run slowly and freeze frequently. Two days later, I turned off the device for 24 hours. When I came back to turn the computer on, the screen began loading with the HP icon but soon after went blank. This happened every time the computer was turned on. I then left the computer off for three days in the hope that it would fix itself which obviously did not occur. After looking up various possible reasons/solutions I tried pressing the f8 key whilst the HP logo was displayed. An error message appeared on a blue screen saying that it had run into an error (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME) and would restart itself. The screen went blank after this and remained this way for over an hour before I turned it off again. I tried this several times and once it came up with a black screen after the HP logo that said preparing for automatic repair and then went blank again. The Notebook came with Windows 8 already installed and the update to Windows 10 was performed digitally.

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information. Regards, DP-K

I tried starting "the last known good configuration" and the same thing occurs... i can start the computer in all 3 safe modes, but no other option works. i have no idea what to do. i didn't install any new software or hardware. any ideas?

A:blank black screen after windows logo on startup

Boot to safe mode, set your display for a generic vga, low resolution. Restart in standard mode, see if you get display. If so, start then, select correct display driver and try, step by step, to get back to where you were. If, somewhere along the line, you get the blank screen again, you should have an idea what happend.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Flex 2 15 Model 20405. Yesterday, I decided to reformat my laptop to Windows 8. On the near end of the installation, it prompted me to restart the computer (it restarted itself after 10 seconds), but after the Lenovo splash screen, I get a blank black screen. I recently came from an Ubuntu OS, not sure if it changed the BIOS settings. I have tried the following instructions bellow. I was successful in rebuilding the BCD, but when I restarted my computer I am still stuck at blank black screen. bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
Remove the Rescue CD and try rebooting now. Other things I have done so far: I've checked the hard drive from BIOS, it's reading it properly.I have tried resetting BIOS to defaults.I changed the boot order priority (HDD first), I tried other boot order as well.I switched between UEFI and Legacy SupportPressed F8 (or FN + F8 ) to bring up Safe Mode, but nothing showed up.I can boot from Windows Installation disk. I tried all troubleshooting options like Refresh and Reset, but I get the message "This option is not available in the OS you selected" - must be because Windows did not finish up during installation so there's nothing to refresh or resetI have tried installing other Windows OS like Windows 7 but still getting the same black blank screen.  The laptop has a built-in battery which... Alright, so after a successful installation of Windows 10 on my home PC, I recommended my mother upgrade to Windows 10 on her laptop in order to fix various issues she'd been having on 7. She messaged me after the upgrade had finished to say that her computer wouldn't start, and so I asked her to bring it over to my house to try and fix it.

Turns out, the problem isn't that the system won't start at all. The problem is, after the entire boot process has finished (The point at which the Lock Screen would normally appear), the system "hangs" on a blank screen with no mouse cursor. This can be bypassed by forcing the system into sleep mode (via the power button, which fortunately was set to do that) and then waking it back up, at which point the Welcome screen is displayed and the computer then continues normally.

I looked this up and there was apparently a similar problem in the preview builds, which was fixed by an update. So, my first reaction is to update Windows. I ran Windows Update, installed everything, and was prompted to reboot, so I did. It was a similar story: After the Windows logo had disappeared the screen stayed black. I then put the system to sleep and woke it up again to see "Windows is finishing updates" and a percentage; after it had finished, the Lock Screen displayed normally.

So, what exactly is the issue here, and how do I fix it?

What is the exact system model?
After the system was dropped, is there any dents / cracks / damage on the chassis or the display or bezel?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
If there are no errors on the diags and the LCD self test passes, then connect an external monitor and check if it works fine.

Hello, wondering if anyone can help with this issue. I am looking to install xp so I wrote the .iso onto a bootable USB and changed the boot order in the bios to boot from USB first. Then after it rebooted, the screen stays black with no bios screen etc. Not sure why it doesn't come up, any suggestions? Thanks

This is an acer aspire one netbook running ubuntu 10.04. 120gb hdd and 1gb Ram. Have absolutely no problems in past with it and it's about a year and a half old.

Extra info :-: when trying to hit the caps lock in the blank screen, the light does jot come up and the keyboard seems to be unresponsive. I am letting it cool down as it was on all day whilst o was researching the xp installation so will attempt to turn it on again soon but fear it may be to the boot order change.

After the Starting Windows screen a blank black screen with a cursor that I can move pops up that lasts a minute (shouldn't happen with SSD, used to be ~10 second boot). Afterwards the login screen will appear as normal and everything works as normal. This doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode.

I attached a list of start up services, installs, and scheduled tasks, along with my latest boot log.

Any suggestions?

Hey, first time posting here, so sorry if this is the wrong section or anything.

Lately my laptop has been experiencing a problem when I boot it up. After the Starting Windows screen with the glowing Windows logo, a blank black screen pops up that lasts for ages (I'd say at least 5 minutes). Afterwards the login screen will appear as normal.

When I log in, the desktop appears quickly, but when I try to start any programs, like my browser, they are slow and freeze often (usually I can run programs with no problem when the desktop appears). Sometimes the laptop will hang every three seconds. It takes a bit of time before the programs and the laptop run like normal.

I've tried several things without success:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling graphics drivers (I've never updated my drivers because no updates are ever available for my driver; is that normal? My laptop is about two years old)
-Defragging hard drive
-System Restore (I don't seem to have any restore points)
-Clean bootup
-Startup repair (or whatever that first F8 option is called)

Bonjour mes amis.

I recently have started getting the infamous black screen of death at my computer's startup, very similar to this fellow user's problem. Basically, Blank screen on boot up, before login screen; slow startup. The black screen lasts at least two minutes on average, before the windows login screen comes up. Everything else runs fine!

I think it might be my antivirus, Bitdefender Total Security 2013, and I've posted on their forums about it, and I've gotten responses from other users saying:

The Black screen issue is known by BD Support till now they have not able resolved that issue.
hope BD 2014 resolves the issue.

And the booting time issue is been solved.

However, I uninstalled Bitdefender and the problem still persisted. I proceeded to uninstall every program i could remember installing before the problem started, so before the start of June. This was painful because I updated all my software, so everything was listed as installed recently.
My startup time after removing all these software is attached below; 156 seconds, compared to before with the speed ranging from 200-500 seconds, with the worst at 472 seconds.

Although this sped about my startup, I still got the annoying black screen issue. I am sure it is a software issue because the black screen is present, but lasts no longer than about 5 seconds when starting in Safe Mode with Networking, and is present even int he low graphics.

I've posted my problem on another board specifically meant for Samsung Netbooks (I have a 1-week-old Samsung NC10 Black), but after some - though helpful - answer posts, my problem persists and nobody had any more solutions.

I don't think this problem has much to do with the computer model though (or maybe it does, I can't tell) so I will look for help here instead. Because I'm lazy, I'll just copy/paste my post(s) from the other forum:

Me: In the boot screen, the windows logo shows up with a very laggy/jerky motion. That is, the fade-in of the logo (before the loading bar comes up) doesn't happen smoothly, but gradually shows up with ~1 second intervals.

Hard to explain, but I think it didn't do that when the laptop was right-out-of-the-box new, but I'm not sure. It has added some 5-10 seconds more to boot time. Is it because the now installed programs make it more bloat? Or something else?"

Then I get asked if I have Daemon Tools installed, which I had, and they suggested I'd uninstall it.

Me: I did have Daemon tools (Lite) installed and I've now uninstalled it. Unfortunately didn't seem to help, still the same laggy boot screen :/ Though if I remember correctly, the lagginess actually started about the same time I installed & used daemon tools for the first time. *shrugs*

Hello, I am having a very big struggle with turning on my laptop to show a display. People have said that I should get a VGA or a HDMI cable and connect it to a monitor so I have done that. Some have said press take out the battery and charger and press the power button for 40 seconds then put the charger and battery back in, that I have tried. Lastly, they have said to press the NOVO button on my laptop (A button that is only on Lenovo laptops) but unfortunately, all of these suggestions have not seemed to help.

The laptop does turn on but the display does not come on so its just a black screen, sometimes though you can get a display and after that when I hibernate or shut the laptop down it will begin to not show the display again unless I am lucky and it turns on. Does anyone here have any other suggestions that could help?

I have a laptop that seems fine except the screen will not come up. When I turn it on, the Dell scree with the BIOS version etc shows, then the XP logo splash screen...then nothing. The screen goes dark. I can logon (becasue I know the keystrokes by heart) and the windows startup music will play. The hard drive light is flashing...I wait a bit, do CTRL-ALT-DEL and hit the "S" to shut it down. The logoff music plays and the computer shuts down. So I know as far as the computer knows, the desktop is loading. I just can't see anythng.

I can start the computer in safe mode. I have reinstalled the video driver, ran anti-malware programs of various sorts, ran msconfig and deselected everything in the startup folder...I used the Windows CD to run the repair console and did a FIXBOOT option. Anti-virus software is up to date. So, far nothing has worked.

Any ideas???

A:XP logo then blank screen

In Safe Mode, have you tried doing a System Restore to correct the problem?

Start > run: msconfig > Launch System Restore. Choose a calendar date prior to the problem?

Offhand I'd say it might be a problem with the refresh rate for the monitor screen -- but this would be unusual on a laptop. In Safe Mode you can try right clicking on the Desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor.

Make sure that you have checked "hide modes that the monitor cannot display". Typically the refresh rate should be 60 hz

Also, as an alternative to Safe Mode, have you tried selecting "VGA mode" from the f8 boot menu?

And make sure all your Power options are set to "never" to ensure it is not trying to go on standby.

So I have this not working HP G60 laptop, with a blank screen after the HP logo. If i press Esc I only get the options F1,F2,F9,F10,F11. which are system information, diagnostic, boot device options, bios setup, and system recovery.

They all work except system recovery. The diagnostics only test the CPU and the hard drive (they're ok). So I tried hard resets without success. The laptops shows only blank screens, so I'm at the point to order a new motherboard, but i'm still a noobie and think it could be a chip or card of some kind.
What do you suggest?

Hello, I have a new GeForce 8500 GT video card and was trying to hook up the computer to the TV to watch movies. For some reason, it was not working and I tried several different configurations offered by the Nvidea control panel. Apparently I pressed the wrong button because my screen went blank and there was no picture on my TV. I tried "escape" and a host of other buttons but nothing worked. I rebooted and I have a picture on my monitor until the Windows logo appears. After that, the screen turns black and the light on my monitor turns from green to yellow. I think the video card is just sending the picture somewhere else, but I can't change the setting back again because my screen goes black after the windows logo. (I'm typing this on my laptop).

There is no problem with the video card because I was gaming on the system yesterday for a couple of hours with no problem. This problem only started when I tried linking the computer to my TV.

I am hoping there is a relatively easy fix to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I had a blue screen while using firefox with a couple downloads in progress and my system suddenly was restarted the typical memory dump, so I couldn't see the error codes or description.

The next time I restarted, the disk was checked and found errors in the files that were being downloaded. But the system freezed after the disk check finished.

After that, every time I try to boot Windows XP, I got a blank screen after the windows logo with the blue progress bar, just at the moment when the login screen should show up. I can't see the mouse pointer, the HD led shows no activity and the system does not respond in any possible way.

I tried starting in safe mode, but the problem persist and I can't never reach the login window. I've run many disk analyzers and antivirus from boot cds but found no errors.

Maybe this is useful information: my video card was having overheating problems and I had to "underclock" it to avoid random render defects, but besides that, everything was fine. I can confirm that the card hasn't died since I'm working in the same machine from ubuntu.

Any help would be hightly appreciated. Thanks.

A:XP Blank screen after windows logo, can't log in

Solution That worked for me:

I had the same problem and looked all over the net for a solution. I was determinied not to have to format my hard drive and re-install Windows. This is what worked for me:

1. - Make sure by entering the PC's BIOS that the CD/DVD drive is set as the first boot

device, otherwise the computer won't be able to boot from the CD. If you don't know how to

do that, visit the BIOS section of this site for the required information.

2. - Boot the system from the Windows XP CD.

3. - Windows setup will start. Use the option to press the R key to access the Recovery

Console. Select your Windows installation. It will be the only installation unless you have

more than one version of Windows installed.

4. - Enter the Administrator password when prompted for it. If you don't use one, just

press the Enter key.

5. - Enter the following commands as is:

CD C:\?system volume information\_resto~1?

6. - Choose the restore point (RPx) that you want to use by using the folder date stamps as

a guide and then enter the following commands:

CD RPx (x is the System Restore restore point that you chose)

7. - Enter the following commands that overwrite the existing corrupted Registry files:

COPY _registry_machine_system C:\Windows\System32\Config\System

COPY _registry_machine_software C:\Windows\System32\Config\Software

COPY _registry_machine_sam C:\Windows\System32\Config\S... Read more

Try hitting F8 as soon as you see the windows screen, and try last know good configuration or safe mode. Have you installed any new hardware or software lately? remove any disks, card or anthing attached to the computer. If you can get it to start on safe mode, try a system restore.

When I went to turn on my laptop this morning and the startup after windows logo was super long. It ended up stopping at a blank screen so I decided to restart the computer manually and that did not solve the problem. I was given the option to do a system repair and so I did. That also failed because it said it could not fix the problem. Safe mode is also not an option because it also freezes and never makes it to the desktop. Ctrl alt delete doesn't work either during the blank screen. I believe it's virus because I foolishly clicked on a shady link sent by my friend on Skype, who then said it was a virus. I'm currently doing a system repair and right now it is checking the disk for errors. it has been running for about 4 hours. Are there any options for me? Thanks.

A:100 15iBD - blank screen after lenovo logo

Hi Daisuke ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Would you have the machine number ? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.
Best way to proceed is to isolate the issue . You can shutdown the PC and unplug the ac adapter , remove the battery (if removable) and press and hold down the power button for 12 seconds to drain remaining power .
Use the Novo button instead to turn on where you expect to see the Novo Menu . Choose BIOS set up and verify if the harddrive is detected . You can F9 to reload defaults and F10 to save and exit.
If the BIOS screen and tabs are working then we are safe to conclude that on the machine level , the laptop is working so that would now lead us to Boot issue either bad windows start up or bad display driver.
Try to connect it to any available external monitor  ( press any FN keys to toggle if needed ex. FN + F10 ).
Any display on the external?  How is pressing ctrl alt del , any changes ? Tap on caps/ num lock ,see if any indicator led going on off too.
Update us how it goes.

I've just finished building my first computer but it seems that I messed something up.

After I finish installing Windows on my SSD (from booting Windows Creation Tool on USB) it works fine for about 10-30 mins. But as I'm about to download drivers the screen goes black and restarts, where afterwards only the wallpaper and task bar is visible (no cursor and very limited keyboard function). The task bar icons still get highlighted but I can't view anything, including the task manager, although it does open (i.e. only the icon appears on the task bar, but the window doesn't appear on the desktop). Once this happens and I reboot my PC, the screen goes black/blank after the Windows logo. The black screen happens every time I try rebooting hereafter (i.e. I can no longer log in to my PC no matter how many times I reboot.).

I've tried reinstalling windows, but the exact same things happen (within 10-30 mins, screen goes black, comes back with only wallpaper/task bar visible, black screen occurring every reboot thereafter). I have no idea if this is a software or hardware issue.

I've tried both installing Windows on my SSD and HDD but the issue is still the same. I can still access the BIOS since the black screen occurs after the Windows logo loads.

Hopefully someone could offer any suggestions, or should I just bring the PC to a professional to take a look?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

After sometime, I decided to retry upgrading the drivers and during which my screen went completely blank and wouldn't show anything even after force restart It would just show the Dell logo and load last it but only to find blank screen. I ran diagnostic and everything showed that it was working. The BIOS was also loading. I tried going into safe mode but then also my screen wouldn't show anything other then the mouse disappearing and reappearing when I moved it. Here are the specs of my laptop:
Dell Inspiron 3537 Windows 8.1 Home Single Language
Intel i3 core processor 1.7 GHz
Intel HD Graphics 4400 ( Dedicated Drive )
AMD Radeon HD 8670M ( Catalyst Drive )
500 GB HDD

I have a HP Touchsmart 310 PC.  I have never had trouble with it before.  I was editing pictures on it and walked outside for a moment.  When I came back in the screen was blank.  Touched buttons and  it would not show anything.  I rebooted the computer and the logo shows for about a second and then the screen goes blank.  I can not get anything to come on the monitor.  THe computer still makes noises that it is running but nothing is on the screen.  I tried a few things in the support group I found as in unplugging the power cord and pushing buttons.  I have had no luck.  Can somebody please help me?

A:Start up Logo flashes on screen then goes blank

Hello Help__needed, You are stating when you turn your touchsmart on the logo flashes and the screen goes blank, is that correct? I will be happy to help you. Try another hard reset first: Remove all cables and including the power cord from the computerPress and hold the power button for 30 secondsInsert only the mouse, keyboard and power cord When you turn the computer back on immediately start tapping the F10 key, and that should lead you into a BIOS setup screen. Please respond back at your earliest convenience. Thanks

Hi, An AMD update screen came up, and stupid me, I thought updating the display drivers would be a good thing.  During the install the screen went gray and stayed that way.  After trying a re-boot and a hard reset it still only displays the HP logo, then the screen goes gray again...and stays that way.  This is a new laptop purchased less than 2 weeks ago, so any help would be appreciated. HP NotebookModel: 17-y018caID: W7D77UA#ABLS/N#8CG62821M8 Thanks

I am trying to upgrade from an ATI card to a new NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500 OC AGP 8x/4x/2x 256mb card. The computer has an AMD Sempron processor, 1gig ram, 450watt PS, and the motherboard is setup for AGP/PCI Express/PCI Express 16. It does NOT have onboard or integrated video.

The geforce info comes on the screen just after the power button is depressed. I get to the XP Professional loading screen (where the little percent bar has a box running back and forth). It sits there for what seems longer than usual, then the screen goes blank. The monitor acts like it gets no signal and goes into powersaving mode. I can reboot and go into safemode without any problem. In fact, I am running this way right now. Any ideas?

I have removed all ATI software. I am about to clean the registry with Registry Mechanic just to make sure everything is out of there. I originally used add/remove programs to remove the drivers/software/control center. I have checked the BIOS and found nothing to do with AGP or Video settings besides the palette snoop which is disabled like the geforce manual says. Someone please help me before I go insane! lol

Download the latest video driver from nVidia. Then boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the nVidia driver thats there now. Then reboot and install the new driver.

I just finished a custom built system:

i3 3.0ghz
MSI p55m-gd41
nvidia 220 pcie
4gb kingston ddr3 (2 sticks in slots 1/3)

My problem is, once i boot from the dvd, it says "loading files" with the long progress bar across the bottom of the screen.

Once that finishes, it goes to blank screen. I let it sit for about 12 hours and the screen stays blank. I never see any Install GUI/Win Logo or anything. It never really gets to Step 1

I've used this DVD to install on a few diff. computers fine.

So far, I tried booting GParted from the CD to try to format it, but that won't boot for me. Keep getting "CD Not Found" error message. I think this may be because of a kernel issue with SATA.

Anyhow, I did get Ubuntu to boot and even install but I can't partition my disc (thought a 100gb partition would help install win7)

A:Install Goes to blank screen BEFORE logo shows

Try using free Partition Wizard CD which will autostart.

Let files load, select 1 for screen res, Wipe HD with zeroes, then try installing Win7 with GRUB (which interferes) gone. Use Custom install>Drive tools to create New, format first.

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. I doubt very much that you have a Driver problem ...

I would be inclined to think that your OS is corrupt ...

Does Windows work in Safe Mode now ?
I would check for corrupt Files ... Read the Link below this will help you achieve this ...

Hi guys,
Let me start off with the specs ? this is a custom build:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS
Gigabyte GAH61N-USB3 mobo
Intel i5-2400 CPU
4GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1333 RAM
1TB 5400RPM 2.5" HDD
MSI N620GT-MD1GD3/LP GeForce GT 620 GPU
Slot-loading CD/DVD?RW optical drive
Dell 2208WFP 22" LCD monitor, hooked up on DVI

The problem I'm having is that on bootup, everything looks fine and runs normally until the logon screen is supposed to come up. After the initial Windows loading logo, the screen goes completely black and then the monitor falls to sleep. Nothing will wake it up, and I can't connect via VNC either so I think the computer is hanging at that stage.

However, in safe mode, the logon screen comes up fine and I can login and everything works properly. In device manager, the graphics card shows up properly, but when I go to the screen resolution settings, it does not display the name of the card.

I have tried switching to VGA and that doesn't work. My BIOS is set to PCIE graphics primary, onboard graphics secondary. The onboard graphics work properly if I disconnect the graphics card. All the drivers for the graphics card are installed and were working before this started.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers but that didn't help. The only thing that temporarily worked was to disconnect the graphics card, uninstall the onboard graphics drivers, and then restart and reconnect the graphics card. However, after I restarted a seco... Read more

Specs -

Win XP Pro
Athalon XP 200 or something like that, running at 2.1 ghtz
1 Gig of ram
Win XP, latest SPs
The video cards -

GeForce 4 4400 Ti
Gigabyte - ATI Radeon X800 XL (AGP)

Upgrading from the Ge to the ATI, obviously.

From the Device Manager, I uninstalled the GeForce. I then shut down the computer, removed the GeForce and installed the (gigantic!) Radeon X800 XL. Seemed to have gone well.

Upon reboot, everything proceeded as usual until the WinXP loading screen. The XP splash screen with the loading animated bar below it displays as normal, then the screen goes blank and stays that way. The hard drive and processor sound like they're finishing the loading process, but nothing is displayed on the screen. There is a signal, just no image.

Attempts to go into safe mode are met with the same, or the computer halting, shutting down and rebooting during the process.

Attempts to put the old card back in the system and load windows from the "last successful boot configuration" is met with the same null image. All attempts to reboot in any safe mode or regular configuration with either card is now met with the blank image after the XP splash screen.

I'm looking in to hunting a Windows XP disc to try to boot from that and see if anything will happen in that, if I need to do a repair install and what not.

ANY ideas regarding this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A:Blank screen after XP loading logo, after installing new video card

The nVidia drivers are kept in a folder in program files. Uninstalling the card was good but if you didn't remove the old Detonators through add remove programs, they may be trying to load when you boot and poor XP is confused. There are a lot of different reasons why it would stop after the boot and just before the welcome screen The fact that the boot screen shows suggests your OK in the drivers department though. You may have damaged your logonui.exe file. If you can't get on the screen then you're pretty much helpless and the repair install may be your only option.

You could burn Bart's PE to a CD and try to boot from that. It's a stand alone live XP program that is self contained. You need to set your boot order to boot from CD. It uses none of your drivers to load and should show up. You can access your files then if it's a software issue, and run the system file checker from the run box to scan and repair any missing or corrupted system files. If you do run the sfc you will have to reinstall all your service packs and updates when you are done.Type the following into the run box and hit OK

sfc /scannow

Or you can open command prompt and start system restore. From the run box type in cmd and the command prompt window will open. If your OS is not on the C drive then replace the C with the appropriate letter. When the command prompt opens you will see

C:\Documents and Settings\your user name>

Type in c:\windows\system32... Read more

Hello! C:

My Satellite A500-1F7 doesn't start up anymore- when I try to turn it on, the Toshiba-logo appears, but a few seconds later, the screen goes completely blank. If I press F2 while the logo is still shown on screen, the setup menu opens. F12 works as well.

At first I thought my laptop just needed a new battery, since it had been urging me to change it for quite some time and the battery-led was out. Now I got a new battery - still doesn't work.
If anybody has an idea, what the reason might be or what I could do to fix it, please help me!
Sadly, I am a total computer-noob.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read all this!

A:Satellite A500-1F7 - after Toshiba-logo the screen goes completely blank

Oh my gosh!
*Update:* The CPU fan suddenly turned on, so I decided to wait and see. After about an hour, a loading bar and "? Microsoft Corporation" appeared on the screen. Also, my laptop made very high-pitched bleeping noises. And now, another 37 minutes later, it seems to be back to normal.

My kids PC has a problem with the new graphics card ASUS EAH5450 (Silent)
All is well when the windows generic "Standard VGA adapter" drivers are installed, but when the ASUS EAH5450 drivers are installed the PC blank screens after the windows logo. The PC is still running but is not getting past the video driver.

I have tried the following:

Installed drivers from ASUS website, ATI website and auto install from windows update.
Started in safe mode no problems
Started in low VGA 640,480 mode with no problems

so now I'm stumped.

A:ASUS HD5450 1GB DDR3 blank screen after Windows logo

Ok so an update - I have downloaded and used the ATI detect and install program and it tells me that, although it's a desktop card, it should be the mobility driver and CCC.
That done but still the same problem.

Thanks in advance

Well I am still dumbfounded. This persistant problem began last
week after I stupidly installed a game which I now have found
out has caused many many people to have crashes of various
kinds. The game is half-Life 2 by Sierra.

Just to review the symptoms. I have a dell Inspiron 5150
which is a Pentium IV Processor system with multi
threading enabled, 1 GIG of RAM and a 60 Gig hard Drive.

The symptoms;
1. Power on PC
2. Dell Logo and POST runs successfully
3. Blank screen for 30 seconds Hard Disk LED ON continuously
4. White progress bar accross the entire bottom of screem for
two minutes. Hard Disk LED ON. Gradually the bar fills in all white.
5. Windows XP Pro load and runs successfully.

I have contacted Microsoft Customer service but the guy I
have assigned to help me is brain dead. The first thing he had
me check was Hibernate??? Needless to say I didnt have
hibernate mode enabled

On my own, I reinstalled Windows XP pro as an update this
completed fine but no change symptom still persists.
I next copied NTLDR from my windows XP Pro to the i386
directory in case NTLDR was corrupted. Rebooted OK but
problem still persists.

Next I started the Windows Recovery Console. I ran FIXMBR
which reported a nonstandard and possible invalid MBR.
After successfully running FIXMBR I rebooted successfully
but the problem still persists. I am thinking about
running FIXBOOT which will rewrite the entire boot
sector but I need to do some research first.

Any ideas? Has anyone experi... Read more

Go Start>Run and type in msconfig then go to the Startup tab and see if the game or any residue of it is trying to start when XP boots.
If it is, untick it, Apply OK and after the forced shutdown and restart, tick the "don't show" message and hit OK.

After that, the screen went completely blank and i could not access anything
Here is what i have tried

1. Opening Task Manager and opening regedit through there, and deleting iexplore.exe ( i did not delete explorer.exe there because it wasn not there )

2. opening task managaer and trying to run explorer.exe ( did not work because it said error )

PLease help me I was trying to install themes and i downloaded a 3rd party client that messed up my computer
i am really scared and need a reply as soon as possible
thank you!

EDIT: there is only one user on my laptop and it is just me (administrator privileged ) so i cant log into another user and change some things.

EDIT 2: IT WORKS! I got it to work by windows fixing it for me! Idk how the option came out but it suggested to restore my computer and it works! thank u windwos!!

Try wiping the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If there are errors on this operation then immediately test the HD with maker's HD Diagnosticextended CD scan.

Reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS to Optimal Defaults.

While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI mode, with DVD drive set to boot first.

WHere did you get Win7? If downloaded, confirm ISO integrity or download another. Burn to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed, or write to flash stick using Universal USB Installer with Win7 in dropdown menu. Boot stick under USB, Removable or HD's.
