EasyServ Repair Problems 11e Yoga Chromebook

Q: EasyServ Repair Problems 11e Yoga Chromebook

Last week, I purchased a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Yoga Chromebook. When I received it, it was sealed in the original packaging with a sticker indicating that it had been refurbished at a Lenovo facility. When I turned it on, I got stuck at the Enterprise Enrollment screen. It seems that it was registered to the domain of the original owner and would not let anyone login without credentials for that domain. The trackpad was also non-responsive, but I figured once I logged in, I could toggle the trackpad settings and get it working. There was a link to contact Google for help with this, so I followed those instructions. Google said that they could not help me, and that I'd need to contact the original owner to have them de-register the device. Since I had no connection to the original owner, I contacted the seller who apologized and told me that, since the device had a full warranty, Lenovo should be able to fix the issue. So, I contacted Lenovo for help on Sunday. The Tech Support Agent that I spoke to first tried to tell me to return the device and get something that ran Windows since Chrome OS and Android are inferior(!). Anyway, once I assured him that I did indeed want a Chromebook and knew all about Chrome OS, he told me that I could send it in for repair, and that all they'd need to do was wipe the system and re-install the OS with a consumer image instead of the enterprise image that was on the machine. I told him I was concerned about doing this since I had a 14-day return window, and I didn't want to miss this. He assured me that I'd have a return box the next day, and that Lenovo would receive my Chromebook the following day, and that they should be able to turn-around the repair in less than 24 hours and get the machine back to me by Thursday or Friday. He also said that if the trackpad turned out to be defective, they could replace that quickly as well. I received the return box on Tuesday and shipped it out the same day. Lenovo received the machine on Wednesday morning and began repairs at 7am. Before 10am the status changes to "Hold for Parts", so I called to find out what was going on. They connected me with someone in the Repair Depot who said that the trackpad and keyboard bezel needed to be replaced, and they had to wait for parts. When I asked about the software issue I had actually sent it in for, they seemed very confused. They said that they'd need to "reinstall the original OS" and wipe the hard drive which I gave them permission to do. They then asked if it was running Windows 7 or Windows 8. I explained that it was a Chromebook and was running Chrome OS, but the technician didn't seem to know what Chrome OS was which didn't instill any confidence, but she said she'd make a note of the information. On Thursday morning, the status change to "Machine being repaired" which I took to mean that the required parts had arrived. However, a couple hours later, the status changed back to "Hold for parts", so I called for information. This time I was told that they had to replace the keyboard, the keyboard bezel, and the trackpad which hadn't solved the issue, so they had gone ahead and replaced the "monitor screen" and "touch screen" as well. I reiterated that I had sent the machine in for a software issue, and they assured me that as soon as the hardware problems were taken care of, they'd move onto fixing the OS problem. This morning I called back when I saw that the status had changed to "Hold for customer information". I was told that they actually didn't need any information from me, and that the machine had been "sent out for testing" last night after they replaced the "circuit board". They said that no further information was available. I called back again around 11:30 and was told that they were still testing things. At that time, I asked if I could speak to someone who was actually working on my Chromebook, and I was put on hold. The rep came back to say that it was taking a long time and that he'd stay on hold and request that the technician update the status so that I could find the latest information through the website. I also requested that I get a call-back with more information. I also expressed my frustration with the fact that this was a new machine to me that had supposedly been refurbished by Lenovo which their techs had now replaced nearly every part. To me, it seems that they're spending a lot of time (which costs Lenovo money) and parts on this repair, and maybe it'd be in everyone's best interest to replace the Chromebook with a new one. He said that this was an option he'd explore. An hour later, I've gotten no call-back and the only indication that anything has changed is that my status has changed back to "Machine being repaired". It's my guess that no one in the Think Pad division knows anything about Chromebooks, so they just keep replacing parts. I'm stuck in the middle worried that Lenovo won't fix this machine and I'll get it back after the return window has closed. Either way, I'm frustrated and annoyed. I'm hoping that someone at Lenovo will read this (very long) post and reach out to help a frustrated customer.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just wanted to update this. I spoke to one of the managers (i think) in the Depot who took responsibility for the repair of my new Chromebook. Long story short, it's been repaired, I received it back today, and it's working.

I have an X1 yoga sent in for repair for about 3 weeks now and it has been stuck in "HF - hold for customer information" status since then. Called customer support several times and the only answer I got was the engineer department has the machine and is looking into it and will let me know if there is any update. Has anyone experienced this kind of disconnect? At this point, I just want to know if Lenovo has confiscated my machine for trusting that the EasyServ service actually would work for customers so that I can move on and purchase other brands who hopefully will not keep the customer's property with no recourse in the name of warranty.

A:EasyServ Repair Problems

My experience has been that "hold for customer information" can mean different things.  If there was non-covered damage (evidence of a liquid spill or physical damage).  In that case you are the customer and need to agree to pay for the repair.  It sounds like that is not the case here because if it were the case they would have told you when you called.

If there is accidental damage and there was accidental damage coverage purchased, Lenovo is the customer and authorizes the repair.  Again, that doesn't sound like what you have.

Finally, sometimes it is decided that the machine needs to be replaced by a new one, rather than repaired.  That can mean that there are more than 10 parts needed for the repair, or something needed is simply not available.

I suggest calling back and ask that the case be escalated.  (That's the magic word.)

I have an almost brand new T450s that, overnight, the left trackpoint button just stopped "clicking". It still works but has no tactile feedback so is kind of unusable in daily practice. A physical scan yielded no issues, so I opened up a case and Lenovo accepted it and shipped me a box to send my laptop. I'm really pissed since this is seriously like a 2 month laptop, but hopefully the turnover time won't be too bad. Questions: 1. for something as simple mechanical as this, do they wipe the HD?2. what are experiences on time/etc for this3. before I actually mail it in, should I reconsider? eg, does sending it in make it WORSE somehow because of bad techs? Is it the old "going to the hospital makes you sicker than just bearing the flu outside"? Thanks much!Jake

A:Does EasyServ repair for *sure* wipe your HD?

> 1. for something as simple mechanical as this, do they wipe the HD?

No. In fact you can remove the HDD from the T450s before you send in the system for repair.

> 2. what are experiences on time/etc for this

Normally you get the repaired system in a week or less. Sometimes repairs get delayed due to replacement parts being unavailable.

A photo colleague dumped his Chromebook on my lap (gratis) with some [email protected]#$ comments ... I will not comment as to why, and I thought this could replace my clunky W540 for pre made portfolio/slide or video presentations. OK, here is the deal.  The Cloud storage is nice, but I'm off on the road with no WiFi, at a client's house. Last time I tested the Chrome Cloud, the presentation 'stuttered' and the flow was disconcerting, and was a discredit to my abilities. I have mutliple prsentations, and 16gb is not enough, particularly when visiting distinct client with different or multiple  portfolio requirements. Is there any way to change the 16gb standard card to a 64gb (There are now 200gb micro SD cards!): Sandisk 200GB SD - The future. I hate to fiddle with the built in SD port, not counting the potential loss of these tiny cards.  I would like it to be an  internal or at least sealed and protected from accidental 'pop-outs'. As the eMMC is actually built on the SD card protocol, can I open and replace the meager 16gb with a more modern larger storage for of WiFi use. Any hack or hints before I pass this unit off, would be appreciated.  Incredible 'oyster' closure system.  Even the Chrome Pixel has a lid finger catch groove.

I do have and use the "SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive":  Did not try it in Chromebook yet, as the Google Store does not seem to have the Chrome extension.  It does play well on my Adroids (Cell and Tablet). Sandisk Wireless Media drive. That may be a way to go if I can get it to work as just a raw drive using some workaround software controls.  I guess another workaround and something else to carry & lose.

Hi all, I bought Yoga 11e Chromebook for a high schooler in my family, and she was happy with it. A couple of weeks ago, in her science class she couldn't access some web resources - I bet they written as "Windows or Mac only" web resources.   Now, I am thinking installing Windows on it, to make her school life easier - Because she is a student she can have a Windows license at no cost from government software centre for students.   The machine is still under warranty and I would like to know: 1. Will Lenove be helpful to provide me all the information?2. Can I do this without warranty void?3. Is it possible to install WIndows on Yoga 11e Chromebook?4. Where can I find the installation procedure?   Thanks!

A:Installing Windows on Yoga 11e Chromebook?

As long as you can enter development mode I beleive you can install Windows on it (assuming the hardware meets the requirements) http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-install-windows-8-on-your-google-chromebook-pixel.350111/ While it is for the pixel, the instructions seem to be universal for chromebooks.   I'm not sure about warranty voiding though.

Hi, Has anyone had any success using the N23 Yoga Chromebook and a USB serial adapter.  I have verified that my USB-A port is good but I have tried several different USB to Serial Adapters and none of them are being recognized.  Several hours of research today led me to a suggestion that requires modifing a file in the root filesystem "android.hardware.usb.host.xml" and I would rather not do that.   Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks,Kevin

Earlier today, I had shut the lid on my Chromebook (putting it into standby mode) and had put it away. At this point it had full power. About half an hour later, I had opened it up again, but it had shut off, and I coudn't get it to turn on again until I plugged it in to auxilary power. When it revived, it still had full battery, but had forgotten the details of the network until I had signed in. This is similar to another issue, wherein the system will occasionally stop opening and running user-installed applications and block any access to local storage (such as viewing and downloading files), citing lack of permission (which does not apply otherwise), until restarting and logging in again. My device is fully up-to-date on the stable update stream. Why am I having these issues? Are there any ways to fix this permanently (aside from purchasing a different device)?

Hello, Ive just bought my first chromebook/Acer device and I am having troubles with it. 2 main problems. First being, I took the word of the rep selling it on what I could use it for.   According to him, I could use it for iTunes.  Apparently this is not the case. Is there any work around? The second is in regards to printing.  I have also bought a Cannon printer.  MG5750.   I've got both the chromebook and printer set up ok.  As a previous mac/windows user, I am used to hitting print, and away we go.   Unless I am misunderstanding something, what I need to do on the chromebook is hit print, which essentially saves a pdf to the google drive.  I then have to go into google drive on the printer and select print?  IS this right?  Seems a weird process. Even doing this I am having problems.  I can see the documents on the printer screen when I log into google drive, but they are not selectable.  Therefore I cant print them. Am I being completely daft?  IS there a way to directly print from the chromebook??? Help is much appreciate as it was a present for my wife, and she is less than impressed and I am getting very frustrated.

After discovering how to install Windows 10 onto an Acer C720 Chromebook, I began looking for tutorials. I was given a link (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yfIjx-fJXPvs6EwSdjRnokJ6ktNxeExZmVin9mamVZU/mobilebasic) on how to do it. I followed it step by step (downloading the necessary files, putting the chromebook into developer mode, removing the Write-Protection screw, etc.) and ran into an issue.

While performing the final step of having to press the ESC button and choosing either Hard Disk or USB, my keyboard wouldn't allow me to choose anything. I turned it off and when I turned it back on, there was a black screen that said:

SeaBIOS (version -20151010_094223-coolstar)

Booting from Hard Disk...

It isn't responding to anything, only turning off and on when I press the power button (even after holding it down). I put the Write-Protection screw back in, placed it on the charger and even put Chrome Recovery Utilty onto a flash drive and nothing is still working.

Posting this so there is visibity to the community and further visibility to Lenovo.  I recently sent my 720 in for repair as the screen had stopped responding to touch and I'd occationally get inverted colors.  After about 45 days (backordered parts), the laptop was returned. A few weeks after using it I was experiencing some choppy video playback and pulled up performance monitor to see what the trouble was... much to my surprise, my CPU came up as an i5 instead of the i7 i purchased.  I immediately downloaded CPUinfo which agreed with the i5 in task manager, which also agreed with the BIOS. I'm now faced with sending it back to Lenovo again, with the unfortunately real hope that nothing is wrong (or missing, or downgraded) with it upon return and that I'm not without a laptop for another 45 days. Needless to say, i'm more than dissapointed at this option, but since Lenovo policy (which their CSRs jump to) doesn't allow for exchange, I don't have any other choice. I understand mistakes can be made, but i'm surprised that there isn't some QC in effect to catch this kind of thing.

No one called to discuss what exactly the problem is and nobody called to arrange an appointment to come and fix my x1 yoga! Is this normal?I have an extended warranty which states "On-Site Service ? Next Business Day", but there have been already 3 business days and no news from any technician apart from from the package that was sent!Am I suppose to change the lcd panel myself? Moreover as I said it isn't just the LCD panel but the whole LCD chassis that need to be replaced. Any experiences with the UK service? Many thanks for the help,Kons

So I broke down and contacted Lenovo Support about the problems I posted earlier that could not be fixed along with a note that a tiny strip of fabric was extruding from the bezel at the top of my screen between the case and the glass!

I sent it off and got it back, hoping everything was repaired.

Nothing was technically repaired.   My problems were phantom sticking keys, like alt gr would just activate and not go away, or windows, or alt.  The only way to make them stop was to reboot my machine.  This would stick even if I was using the onscreen keyboard and my pointer would show it was stuck on.

My g key suddenly vanished, then the laptop logs me out and I have to log back in.  G key is fixed.
I took a close look at the top of my screen and can see where they just CUT the fabric off, because they left a few strings of fabric and there are scratches from a sharp object!  I was told the upper casing had been replaced!!

I'm going to contact them again on Tuesday.... I'm beginning to hate this laptop, because I use it for work, but it's so glitchy it constantly interrupts my work flow having to fix things.

The Wi-Fi was spotty and I sent in the computer for repair under warranty. Warranty would not cover the repair so I paid $150 for the repair. It took 3 months for me to get a response saying they could not find the part to repair and they would be shipping out a new computer instead. It's been three weeks and I haven't gotten any updates on the computer whatsoever. I've tried calling the repair center in the US and I am getting the runaround saying my case is assigned to someone called Matthew Weaver who has not been responding to emails or calls. When I talk to a lower level representative, the only thing they said they can do is assign the case to another "higher up". I've been without a laptop for 4 months for repairs that I paid for and I simply cannot find an alternative way to talk to someone who can move this case along. Is there anybody on this forum that can help me with the case? I really need the laptop back for my business, it has been a quarter of the year since I've been without this laptop. I am extremely frustrated by this situation. I've only purchased ThinkPads for the last 10 years and this will most likely be my last seeing that customer service has fallen so far since Lenovo took over from IBM. The escalation case number is 403WWBL.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Since your laptop is out of warranty you can take it basically anywhere to have it serviced.  Best Buy comes to mind as well as many of the locally owned computer repair shops.  If you are interested in having your laptop serviced locally at a Lenovo authorized Service Center then check out my link below.  Just enter in your city and select the miles you wish to drive.  Then check the Warranty Service Provider box to get a listing of repair places.  Without this box checked the results will only include sellers of Lenovo products.  When you find a center, please call ahead as some listings aren't up-to-date.

Hi everyone, I know this might not be the right place to post this so if you could direct me to the right place that'd be great, but I couldn't find anywhere appropriate. I sent off my Lenovo Yoga 2 13 for a out of warrenty repair after talking to a support agent online about a faulty screen. The email says I should have recieved a confirmation email when they recieved the return and repairs would be complete in 10 days but the package tracking says it was delivered and signed for on the 22nd of December and I've still not heard anything back. I have tried to use the "Repair Status Check" function a few times but every time it just gives me the error "We cannot find a match for the Serial number / IMEI number and Service Request number you provided. Please check and try again." Worse still, I can't find a way to contact any kind of support about this kind of issue. And any other kind of support that I can access requires me to give my laptop's Serial Number, which I don't have written down. I thought I had everything sorted out once I was given the delivery return slip so I didn't make a note of it  Any advice on what I should do or who to contact would be highly appricated.

Hi You repaired my Yoga (usb failed). When you sent me my Yoga back I've found that the microphone is not working any more. I reinstalled the drivers as You suggested in the other thread. Your support really suks. How could You destroy working machine?? Not mention it's impossible to contact You (except badly working phone line).

Hi, I had a Yoga-3 Pro which had been purchase in March-2016 which failed recently and cannot be switch on while pressing the On/Off Button. After sending the faulty unit to Oval Service center and feedback it is Out of Warranty. While the repair cost on the Main PCB replacement is more expensive than buying a new Yoga-3 Pro. Anyone have the same experience ?

So I accidentally dropped my Yoga 720 and now there are 2 small but noticeable dents on both lower sides of the laptop. How much will it cost to replace the body panel as I don't think that it can be repaired? The laptop is in perfect condition otherwise. Thank you.

There's a story but the thing is I changed its SATA controller from RAID to AHCI in the BIOS.Now, my Yoga 720 stuck in 'Preparing Automatic Repair'.  What I wanted to do was a clean install of windows 10 on my new laptop. Then, I had an issue that the windows 10 install won't recognize the drive on its own.I googled and found that changing the SATA controller resolves the issue.  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/52312/page/1https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Changing-SATA-Controller-mode-on-Yoga-720/... Based on the above references, I did it and got in a trouble. Now I have been seeing the 'Preparing Automatic Repair' screen more than 30 minutes.I'm afraid that I'm in a big big trouble.I'd very appreciate it if your could help me!!

Does anyone here know who I can complain to about my Lenovo repair? I sent a Yoga X1 for repair of a non-responsive touch screen TWO MONTHS ago and they still haven't fixed it. They said it would take only 5 days. They claim to be waiting on parts to arrive but I'm starting to suspect they are trying to wait until my warranty expires next month. What recourse do I have at this point? Better Business Bureau? I loved the machine for about a year but this is absurd. It was my third Lenovo and it will probably be my last.

I recieved this laptop for Christmas last year as a gift from my mother. Everything was working fine and the laptop was basically everything I had ever asked for (and more). I kept it on, only closed because I didn't like turning it back on. Everything was going well up until today. My laptop started working slowly and nothing was really loading properly. I shut it down by holding down the power button and restarting it that way. It went to a black screen then it had the Lenovo logo on it and then it said Preparing Automatic Repair. I repeated the process a few times before just leaving my laptop off for a while. I just now turned it back on and it went to the repair screen and now its on the Diagnosing your PC screen. If there is any way I can get around the loop without returning the laptop or resetting the whole thing - I have a lot of stuff on there that I can't lose - I would love to know!! Any advice is greatly apprecated!!
