Preferred Solution: Can't install Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Windows 8.1 ( error 0x80240017 )

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I installed Visual Studio 2017 on a Windows 8 machine. It ended being an incomplete install
in which it created more problems than care to deal with again.

I ended up using several system restores to get my machine back in shape form this ordeal.

For the VS 2017 install I used MS site to download and I did a Web install. That incomplete
install did not work and only created way to many problems.

How can a get a nice clean install of VS 2017 community without taking a chance of going
threw all these problems with incomplete installs of VS 2017.

Note I all ready have VS 2012 on this machine and I hope to keep using it after I install
VS 2017 on it.

Hi all,

So recently the Windows Store has stopped working for me (Win 8.1 Pro). By not working, I mean that whenever I try to install an app, I get the following error message:

Your purchase couldn't be completed
Something happened and your purchase can't be completed. Error code: 0x80240017.

Furthermore, apps are not updating automatically, and a manual check reveals no updates available. That being said, I know for a fact that my Facebook and OneNote apps are out of date, since they have both changed on my other computer. As a test, I uninstalled the OneNote app, and now I can't re-install it.

So far I've tried:
The apps troubleshooter.
The windows update troubleshooter.
WSReset.exe
SFC.exe (no violations found)

Thoughts? Because I've run out of them.
Thanks in advance.

Do I need to go back to installer and reinstall something I missed. If so what do I need to

It took 6 or more hours to install 2017 and I still have more problems. Maybe I need to forget
VS 2017 and go back to VS 2012. I prefer to continue with 2017 if I can get it right.

I would also like to try some Web programming using VS 2017.

The problem is that VS 2017 has way too many check boxes, templates and choices.
I don't want to guess on those choices.

Hi, tried to install a sticky notes app called 'stickies, on my laptop, so I can put reminders on my screen, and got the following error message - The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
I didn't follow instructions about command line, as that's out of my depth.
I got the following response from the developer, and as all the versions of Microsoft Visual C++ on my Win 7 64bit machine are (X64), I would like to know if I can safely install an (x86) version alongside, as he advises? Thanks, Jay

When you try to install, or run Stickies you get an error message:

A lot of the time I find that programs I install/download do not work due to a missing DLL.

I look for a solution, and find that one of these "Redistributable" contain the solution to my error.

In this specific case, I'm getting this error while trying to run Apache on my machine:

ApacheMonitor.exe - System Error
The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

After doing research, I found that this installation will apparently fix my problem. However, upon trying to install, I get one of two errors:

1 - Program hangs near end of installation reading "Processing: Windows7_MSU_x64" and does nothing.

2 - Installation crashes with this error:

"One or more issues caused this step to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup.
For more information see the log file.

The "Redistributable" alternates between the above errors one each try.

It's one of those Windows Conundrums that seem to have no explanation and no solution. A lot of the time these "Visual" things mention C#/C++, yet both already run perfectly fine on my machine through compilers.

Alright, before you point me to some Autodesk troubleshooting site, please hear me out - this isn't the run of the mill problem.

I'm trying to install Autodesk 3Ds Max 2015 on my computer. I have everything in order, but as soon as it starts to install, I get about 3 minutes of a loading bar before this happens:

Naturally, I looked in the log to see what went wrong and found this:

"Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603"

I looked that up and apparently I'm not the only one with this issue. However, the one fix for it (or at least, the one fix that I understood) involved uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) from my computer, rebooting, then redoing the installation.

Sounds pretty clear-cut to me, it's just that there's one problem...

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable is apparently not even on my PC. Even though I literally installed it from the Microsoft website about 10 minutes ago, just to be sure, it won't show up!

So, I can't remove it, because I can't even bloody well find it. I've installed it around 3 times now, every time the installer for C++ 2005 gets to about 70% and then closes without so much as an error noise so I don't even know if it's working or not.

Somebody, please help! The official troubleshooting guides are useless to me and most of the alternate solutions involve all this complicated nonsen... Read more

I just purchased a new laptop (Lenovo G70) with Windows 10 operating system. I am having a problem installing an video editing software that I also just purchased: Cyberlink's Power Director 14. When I attempt to install this software, I get the following

"This process cannot continue because the Microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x64) install was unsuccessful...The installation will now abort."

I have contacted tech support at Cyberlink and they provided me with the following Microsoft information: "Certain MSI packages may fail with an error ?Error 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress? As per the MSI log: MSI (s) (44:48) [15:07:21:799]:

Hi there, I was wondering if someone could help me solve a long running problem!

An error message always pops up on my computer saying:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library.

Runtime Error!
Program: C:\...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.
The problem here is that the "application" name is not given! I feel like I have tried everything, I ran a registry cleaner, virus scan, ran Malware Bytes Anti Malware, even uninstalled Microsoft Visual C++, nothing works.

The error message only pops up when the computer hasn't been touched for a while, e.g. if i'm surfing the net or typing then I get no error messages. But if i'm watching a video, and therefore not pressing any keys, the error keeps popping up.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop this? The computers about to be thrown out the window at this stage!

Thanks!

p.s its windows xp service pack 3!

Do you have MS Visual C++ installed on the computer? If so, it's probably looking for runtimes within the program, which you'll probably have to download. Post back, and I'll try to help you more.

Disable all the add-ons for IE and see if it still happens. Tools, Internet Options, Programs, and click the Manage add-ons. If that does the trick, you can enable them in groups until you isolate the offending one.

I am running XP, SP2 with IE8.

I have a program called PM Fastrack loaded on my laptop. The problem is, whenever I double click the icon of that program, it throws me an error of Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error R6034.
I tried installing MS Visual C++ ver 2008 redistributable, then MS .Net framework 3.5 SP1, but still it is giving the same error.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi guys, first off I haven't been here for help in years literally this was the first place I thought of because a few years ago many generous people helped me solve my problem, this place is awesome. Please pardon me as I am only decently literate with computers but try my best.

Ok I am trying to solve an annoying problem for my parent's computer. My dad was typing a normal document in Microsoft Word (OS is XP with System Pack 2, and it is Word 2002) and he said that just yesterday for the first time, after typing for maybe a half hour, a window would pop up with a "runtime error" and it would freeze untill he clicked ok on it, and it would then shut down loosing all his work that he didn't save.

So I got on the computer and opened Microsoft Word, and was able to duplicate the problem time after time but not every single time. When I simply open word, then click to close Word, the box appears, and he verified it is the same box he saw. It says exactly as follows, no more, no less, and every time reads the same -

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\WINWORD.EXE
abnormal program termination

So I tried to research it, and came across a fix on Microsoft's support site saying remove something called COM Add-ins. I did so by following each step removing the one COM add in i found, and it did not resolve the problem at all. It still errors out. SO I grabbed the master disk and un... Read more

Hello,

I tried to install the trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 9, which installs Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. The C++ external installer crashed and the Vegas installer failed. I got the standalone installer package from microsoft's website, but it does the same thing. It runs, but then there is a message "Exteneral Installer has stopped responding" or something and it won't install.

I'm running (a legal copy of) Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

Running windows update, getting yesterday's vista updates, and restarted let me use the standalone C++ installer.

I scan products for AC Nielson Homescan. Weekly I transmit the information through a USB cable using software I downloaded from their site. I have had no problem doing this for several months until 9-12-09. On the 12th and since then it doesn't work. I get an error message "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error" saying "abnormal program termination". I followed their advice, uninstalling their software and re-installing with no luck. I tried restoring my computer all the way back to August 27th when I know it worked, with no luck. I purchased and downloaded ParetoLogic RegCure, scanned and cleaned 1,300 errors, re-booted and still I get the same Runtime error. Any suggestions?
