I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Issue
My brother has a PC with Windows 10 and two Administrator Users:
#1 User: MS Account (the main one, used by my brother)
#2 User: Local Account (Secondary one, used by myself)

Since the login page is usually bypassed in this PC via netwizpl setup, none of us usually need to insert a password at startup, but after a Windows Update the login page reappeared, and my brother can't access his MS account any more because his password is not recognized.

Useful info

It's no keyboard issue: the keyboard layout is consistent with settings and we also checked the correct password spelling with the "eye" icon
Resetted MS password, but no joy: we have tried to reset the MS account password. The new password grants access to the MS account at https://login.live.com, but it's still useless when trying to login to Windows with the MS account.
All OK with the Local Account: the Local Account still grants login, and since it's an Administrator account it still allows access to the other account data.
Haven't done a Restore (yet): An obvious (but not necessarily effective) solution could be a Windows Restore. I'll probably try to Restore a previous System State if I don't find a better solution, but I'd prefer to understand the cause of this issue.

A:Windows 10 doesn't accept Microsoft Account password change

Have you gone into the MS account from the local account and changed to the new password?

I assume that your local account is of the Admin group, which should give you access to the MS account settings.

A:How do I change between Microsoft account and local account?

You would most likely need a Pro version of Windows 8 if they use a Domain.  Then you would need to talk to your IT person, to allow your machine on the company network.  As for your question, you do it from the Profile in the Metro Screen.  This actual question that you posted is in the FAQ on microsoft.com for the Windows 8 page.

According to Microsoft, the square brackets are permissible special characters. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the password? Banging head on wall time.

You don't need to close your account. Just create another strong password. It doesn't even need to be something you could easily remember. Write it down or use LastPass or something so that you don't have to spend all day typing it in / remembering it.

Is there any way to troubleshoot a MS Account? When I attempt to sign in to live.com locations involved with Insider access, I am greeted with "Something Went Wrong" at the sign in, and I can't proceed. Some MS account sites, like the actual home page for my MS Account will let me sign in, but even there, it looks as though some "sensitive" information like account balance and purchases "couldn't be accessed".
Frustrated with this behavior, I created a new user (admin) and proceeded to open a MSA account for this phantom. No problem! I can get into sites that are denied to the "real me". The trouble is that I can't interact with the apps and programs that are accessible under my real login. Can I remove my original "real" login, rebuild it, and still maintain access to the array of programs that has taken much time to build up? What other strategies might work?

A:Microsoft Account won't access live.com locations

Are you talking about in a browser? Like Chrome or FireFox maybe?

There has been a few people having similar issues like this I get with Chrome,
At the Techbench site and a few other Microsoft sites.

It doesn't happen in IE or Edge for me, I usually just go incognito in Chrome and it lets me in.

Hi,

I'm having some troubles figuring out how the new Windows 8 user account works.
I currently have two MS accounts on my pc - lets say account1 and account2. I've set a password that I regularly use so I didn't forget it. I couldn't sign in on either account.

I initially created a new Microsoft Account with my internet providers' emailbox ([email protected]). After signing off and back on, it seemed I couldn't sign in anymore. So I went to account/reset/password and reset my password. That didn't work. Then I went to change the password for account2 which is a @hotmail.be account. To my surpise, I couldn't login to account2, but I could login to account1 with the password i changed for account2 :s

I'm happy I've managed to log in, but the problem is that Windows 8 asks me to sign in to my MS Account with my most recent password before I can download apps from the store, view email/messaging, etc. Not any of the passwords I've used are accepted, the message keeps coming back and I can't do anything with W8 UI.

Can somebody please explain why this is happening?

A:Windows 8 Live-ID / Microsoft account hassle

I've solved the problem.

I deleted account1 including the MS account linked to it.
I recreated account1 including the MS account and logged in.
Finally I deleted account2.

Everything is working great now,

Using a MS Live account just for the purpose of installing Store apps

The first time you go to install a store app you are prompted for your Live account credentials. Once entered, the only choice is SAVE or CANCEL. Once SAVE is chosen Windows remembers the password and the user is not prompted next time they go to install a store app.

I want the user to be prompted every time. It seems earlier version of WIN8 allowed this. Can it still be done? I looked for a registry hack to prevent the Live password from being memorized but could find none.

Im an IT technician and i deal with a fair amount of clients who have locked themselves out of their computers. This is normally a very quick and painless process no matter the windows operating system; other then with windows 8 live accounts. Local accounts are no problem as we(my company) use(s) MSDART or Passcape to remove or preferably recover the users password for our clients. So this brings me to my question. Does anyone know of any GOOD software to recover (preferably recover) or remove windows live account passwords? I dont mind paying a few hundred dollars for a quality product that will pay dividend in the future but dont want to wast my time and money trying a product that doesn't fulfill my needs.

Also on a somewhat unrelated topic, is there a windows 8 product key recovery tool that can recover the windows 8 key from the bios without having to be in a windows installation first? Such a tool would be very useful for recovering the product key from computers with completely failed HDDs for installation purposes. I know when you load windows 8 it should pull the product key from the bios but ive ran into a few where this is not the case. Running a business i cant give a clients computer back with an unactivated windows. Thats just extreamly unprofessional, although some shops in my area do so, and boot loaders/activators are out of the question for obvious reasons.

Thanks in advance for any input into the subject.

A:need input for Win live account password recovery tools

Hello Aj,

No need to pay anything. You can use the method in the tutorial below to reset the password of your Microsoft account as needed online at Microsoft.
Microsoft Account Password - Change or Reset in Windows 8
When you install the same Windows 8 that came preinstalled on the OEM computer, the installation will automatically detect and enter the product key that's embedded in the BIOS/UEFI firmware chip on the motherboard. Once installation is finished, it should be able to activate with that key.

Hope this helps,

hi all,

i've recently formatted and re-installed Windows XP Pro SP2 on a RAID0 setup. nothing at all went wrong with the install and everything was working fine for about a week.

today however, i locked my desktop (WinKey + L) and went out. when i got back, i typed my password in to unlock the machine and was told that my password was incorrect, i tried the password a few more times (typed very carefully) but the computer kept giving the same error; 'incorrect password'.

to get around this i used 'administrator' and the admin password, which logged off 'mark' (which is my normal account with adminstrative rights) and took me back to the login screen. from here i logged into 'mark' with my normal password and got in first time.

i then tried to change the password of the acount 'mark' to something very simple like 'aaa' to see if it was human error on my part. so i opened Control Panel -> User Accounts and clicked change password. i typed the current password and entered a new password of 'aaa' and was presented with the same error as before; 'incorrect password'. i also tried Ctrl + Alt + Del and using the change password option but got the same error again (surprise surprise).

i've done a bit of searching (google and MS KB) but haven't found anything relevant or useful.

any help or advice would be massively appreciated!

Hi,

My friend's cheapo six year old computer died yesterday. Her son had an extra computer he's not using at the moment and he is giving it to her. It's running Windows 10, and when he set it up, he used his email and did that Microsoft account option.

Now, however, he wants to give that computer to her, but when she turns it on, she's going to see his emails on the email app, not hers. Is there a way to remove or change that Microsoft account? Can we change it to a "local" account, or at least change the email address? I am barely familiar with Windows 10, but I am pretty familiar with 8. However, I've never had an occasion to need to change the registered Microsoft account email or try to change it to a local account, so any suggestions would be welcome!

When setting up Windows 8 64-bit Pro on the page titled "Sign in to your PC" I choose the sign into my Microsoft account as opposed to "Sign in without Microsoft Account". Big mistake. It created a username called dwmad_000 which is part of my email address used for that Microsoft account.

To amend this username to one of choice, I changed the name in my online Microsoft account and also from C.Panel created a local account. I now have both in Windows Explorer but the default one is always dwmad_000.

Any ideas how to get rid of dwmad_000 or change it permanently to First Name Last Name and sycn the 2.

A:Change Name on Microsoft Account & PC Username

Hello Ian,

The best way to change your "C:\Users\(user-name" user profile folder name is to create a new account and delete the old one. Be sure to back up anything you do not want to lose from your current account first.

It's a bit of a workaround, but in your case for example:

Switch your current Microsoft account to a local account "A".Create a new local account "B" that's an administrator with the name you want.Switch the new local account to a Microsoft account "B".Sign in to the new Microsoft account "B".Delete your old local account "A".
Hope this helps,

I am a 87 year old who had his first computer, a Commodore 64, in the early eighties and have enjoyed computers ever since, currently using WIndows 7.
Having just bought a smart 'phone, I find that I'm unable to buy apps for it unless I remember my Windows Live account password. The problem is that I must have chosen a password many years ago which I have never had to use and have therefore forgotten.
So the problem is resetting a forgotten password.
I spent literally hours yesterday complying and answering the same questions again and again, giving my second Email address, date of birth and location, mother's maiden name and the subject of my latest private Email, only to arrive back at the original log-on window. Microsoft once sent a temp. password for me to enter, which did not work.
The password reset file I made in a flash drive was a .psw file which crashed Word 2007, and didn't work.

It is obvious that many people have had the same problem with Microsoft.

OH JOY 'TIS ME AGAIN!

I do seem to have strange problems. Here's the story:
I have WLM & WM on my Vista pc. On my account it all works lovely with hardly any problems in one applicaton; open up WLM and my WM ([email protected]) is available also.

On the different user account, that is another story.
I can open up WLM or WM in seperate applications; open up WLM, close WLM, open up WM, close WM.
But WLM will not incorporate the WM account.
I tried ADD ANOTHER ACCOUNT but though it starts off well it does not go past the password point and either keeps flashing the password login box at me for ever or it says the email account name and or password is wrong.
Now here is the strange bit - on my other pc all is well with this WLM, it rocognises the user name and password of WLM and desk top application mail ([email protected]).

So do I give the different user Admin rights, will that make any difference? Or what?

I have a Panasonic FZ1000 camera that is wi-fi capable. However, I'm having the worst time getting the PC and camera to pair, as have many others. One suggested workaround was to disable "Password protected sharing" in the control panel's Advanced Sharing Settings. However, windows won't let me do this because (to the best of my knowledge) I would first have to remove the password from my Guest user account. I have tried numerous times to do this, but unsuccessfully. Here's what's happening: I enter the Guest account using its proper pw. In the control panel, I get to the "remove your password" screen. Here there is a field asking for my current pw. I enter the pw used to gain access to the Guest account and get the message that "Windows cannot change the password." BTW, "Password protected sharing" can't be disabled in the Guest account, either. Help please.

Dear all,

The user in this Africa office changed the local password of his account and now can't remember it therefore making the PC unable to be logged into. I do not want to tell him our administrator password because it's the same for all our PCs worldwide. I have researched many things to try and connect to the PC but it is now possible.

I have tried:

1. Browsing to the machine from another pc on the network using explroer and I can see the C Drive.
2. I tried running this command but I just keep getting error 1219: net use \\pcname\ipc$ /usercname\administrator *
3. RDP will not work, it just won't connect.
4. The PC I am using is Windows 8 home edition and not business which I notice is a problem as computer management does not have users and groups it appears. The remote pc is Windows 7 Enterperise.

So at the moment I just have a laptop that is stuck at the login screen.

One week ago, I received a message from Amazon.com that an order had been returned and refunded. I thought that was strange since I hadn't returned anything...

I then got a message from Amazon that "my" request to have this balance transferred to another account would shortly be fulfilled.

I contacted Amazon, they obviously said my account had been compromised, so I changed my email.

Fast forward to today: Amazon contacted me saying that my account had been compromised today, and I needed to change my password. So I'm wondering whether there's something on my computer that's giving away my Amazon password!

Also: I've noticed lately that occasionally my internet connection stops working, and I have to restart my computer for it to work.

As well, sometimes the fan goes unnaturally high, as if I were playing a graphically intensive game, and the system slows down... but I'm just browsing a few websites... when I reboot it goes back to normal.

Hi just bought new laptop, and upon installation registered the wrong Microsoft account. It then proceeded to upgrade to Windows 10. Please could anybody tell me how do I remove that initial Microsoft account and replace with different one? Thanks

A:Completely change primary Microsoft account

Hello Sam, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you like, you could switch your account to a local account, then afterwards switch it back to a Microsoft account with the email address you wanted instead.

Local Account - Switch to in Windows 10

Microsoft Account - Switch to in Windows 10

I currently use a yahoo.com e-mail address to log in to my Microsoft account. I have created a new outlook.com e-mail account and I want to use that as my Microsoft account login (I will eventually close the yahoo.com e-mail as there is too much downtime).

When I go to "Your Info" and then "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft", I click on "Add E-Mail" and I have 2 options 1) Create a new email address and add it as an alias and 2) Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias****************

When I click on option 2 and enter my outlook.com e-mail address, I get an error which says "This email address is already taken. Please try another."

I posted in Microsoft Community and got a reply that I should contact their Answer Desk. I made contact and gave the above information. The assistant gave me instructions on how to create a "New" account (something I did not ask for). When I pointed this out, the assistant said that if he could have access to my computer, then he could resolve. I said no and asked for a step-by-step.
This is what he sent:-
1. Please Press ?Windows? and ?I? at the same time.
2. then select accounts.
3. select sign in with local account.
4. sign out from the present Microsoft account.
5. then sign in with the local account, which you created.
6. after signing in with the local account.
7. Please Press ?Windows? and ?I? at the same time.
8.then select accounts.
9. then select... Read more

Hey everyone So not long ago I changed my password to a touch screen password (making lines and shapes to access computer) and I have since tried logging back in but it has reset it to my original password, which I now don't remember. I tried calling customer support but apparently I'd have to pay for a service to actually reset my whole computer! Does anyone have any other solution than this? When I try clicking reset password a pop-up appears saying: (This feature requires removable media, such as a USB flash drive)Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All  I'm running windows 10
