Play some sounds through speakers and some through headphones

Q: Play some sounds through speakers and some through headphones

Is there a way to do this?

Preferred Solution: Play some sounds through speakers and some through headphones

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Play some sounds through speakers and some through headphones

Not that I know of. Its either one or the other. You can have options on some sound devices for which headphone/speaker jacks are or aren't active but you can only have one default audio playback device at a time and thus everything gets routed through that device.

I recently got a new desktop and that is the only problem that I have. I like to go on Skype and then play music/game sounds through the speakers, but on my audio devices list, it only shows up Speakers/Headphones. I know that the Realtek HD Audio Manager would let me split them up, but when I download that, all I get is some worthless Dell Audio thing (picture at the bottom) that barely has any options. So, is there anything I can do about this? I don't know how specific to be, so if you need more information, just say so.

Do you mean you want communications (skype) through the headphones and everything else though speakers?

As the title suggests no sound through the laptop speakers or the headphone out. Last Saturday my laptop prompted me to download 2 important Windows updates. One of the two updates was Internet Explorer 10. After installation and restart everything seemed ok. Then I went on the internet and almost immediately I was getting this popup "Ulead MP3 Codec: About" "Ulead MP3 Codec v1.0.18" and then an OK button as the only option. You could proceed no further unless you clicked OK, but once clicked the web page froze. I believe I was trying to read NY Post online at the time. So I started Googling the problem and see that many others have the same most in association with checking either AOL email or some other web based email program and it was associated with sound. The fix recommended for everyone was either to turn off sounds in email, download Windows 7 Codec pack from MS Updates or to put Ulead.com as a blocked site on IE. I tried the latter two as I do not us web based email, rather I use MS Outlook. ... Read more

I need to emit sounds from speakers and headphones but different content respectively. For example, from an application which will produce an alarm sound to notify the user that there is an incoming case will be produced from the built-in speakers at the monitor. Next, when I plugged in the headphone, the sound from the application shall be emit from the built-in speaker and filter off from the headphones and left with the sound that I desire. How do I do that?

A:Sounds emit from both speakers and headphones

that is down to the application itself normally, from past experience you can only do that if the program has a setting for it. For example setting the Output in ventrilo settings to headphones.

As far as I know there is no way to force it. But, I am probably wrong on this.

I was wondering if it were possible to split up sound effects from different app's. For example, I want to be able to have sound effects for games running on my headphones while mp3s play on the speakers. The headphones are connected via USB port and the speakers are plugged into the regular sound jack on the back og my PC. I was thinking there was maybe some sort of program I could buy (or even better, freeware) that would make this possible. Or maybe there is a trick that Windows XP lets geeky guys like me do this? Thanks for the help.

Buy a separate MP3-player and hook that up to your stereo.

Just installed a new motherboard and with that it reset all my sound options and a few others and before the new motherboard I was able to go onto TeamSpeak 3 and get peoples voices through my headphones and all other sounds through my speakers so I was able to hear voices and music clearer, one problem is that I can't scheme to remember how to do this and if I try to make the headphones the default communications device, the option doesn't show up for it. Looked around but there isn't anything about how to do this.

If anyone has any ideas on how to change this I'd be appreciative.

A:How to get desktop sounds through speakers & voices through headphones

I am a bit confused with what you are trying to do as usually plugging in phones automatically disconnects the speakers by way of a switch that is struck by the incoming jack plug. Unless you can disable that switch I don't know how you are going to do this.

Did my first budget pc build and I feel really sick because of a problem!

I've grown tired trying to fix this on my own and i see this as my last resort.
My problem is that when i plug in my headphones to the front panel of my PC, the sound plays out of the speakers still.
What i want is for the speakers to cut out when i plug my headphones in.
Headphones work as on my laptop speakers cut out when i plug in the headphones!

I've gone through forums and stuff and the instructions/help they have does not cover mine.

Here are 4 printscreens of my problem:

Below is the printscreen of the Speaker properties. As you can see, it shows the front and rear port together.

Below is the window i get when i click on the folder icon (connector settings ) on realtek manager:

Below is when i click on the link 'device advanced settings':

Below is when i click on the speaker icon in taskbar and click on 'volume control options':

So many forums/help guides have the disabled rear panel option thing and among other things but i dont have them.
The audio driver i downloaded from the asus website with respect to my mobo.
I've tried to include everything and sorry if i've left anything out.
Will be checking constantly for replies so i can reply back!

Please guys/girls,

Is there a way to fix this? I'm 20 and i've had really crap headaches over this.

Hi everyone,

My USB headphones worked perfectly up until last week. The headphones still play the Windows 8 system sounds, but when I try to use them with Youtube or VLC, they don't play any sound. The strange thing is when I go to Playback devices, the headphones are connected and installed as the default device, and they work perfectly if I test them in the playback menu. Headphones also work when I connect them with the 3,5mm cable.

Any one knows what might have caused the problem and mainly how to solve it? Thanks!

I have been to over a dozen websites trying to fix this problem of mine, with no right answers. When I use my headphones on my laptop, I am able to hear game sounds through it, and I am able to hear Chat from calls through it, but not at the same time. While in game or youtube or whatever if I make a skype call or steam chat or teamspeak, all other sound comes through my laptop speakers so that the chat is alone in my headphones. This defeats the entire purpose of having headphones.
I have Windows 7. I am using the Turtle Beach Earforce X12 Headset. When I go to Control Panel>Sound>PLayback the options are 1) Speakers and Headphones 2) Communications Headphones. Both say IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
Please, help me. out of all the websites out there, they all say to do the same stuff and it doesn't work.
Also, side note, on the headset there is two controls for game and chat. The chat one doesn't work for anything and game controls everything that comes through the headset. Not sure if that helps at all.

Thank you in advance.

A:Chat calls separate game sounds to speakers when using headphones

What are you options for playback devices? Playback options should likely be "headphones" only.

I'm not sure it both volume controls function when connected to a PC as it's a single audio stream.

I have an HP 550 laptop running Win XP SP3. I use the headphones most of the time. Recently I found that when I plug the headphones in, the speakers keep playing and there seems to be no option anywhere to turn them off. The volume control only lists a single wave output device and Device Manager has no option or tab which differentiates between speakers and headphones. After 10 minutes of chasing my tail on the HP customer support site, which demanded an "SKU" (no description of same or information on where to find it, the link just goes back to the main support page and I'm having to start over from scratch picking my device type), or a product number and which wouldn't accept the P/N I entered ("more than 500 hits, please narrow the search" and back to the beginning we go yet again) - bearing in mind that I'm having to turn a plugged in, running laptop upside-down in order to find the label on the bottom of the machine, while I'm currently online and on the HP website trying to get help on the issue - I gave up looking for a BIOS update. My question is this: Is there any solution to the problem other than sending the machine in for repairs? And if there is a BIOS update, is there a direct link that doesn't involve surfing in circles on the HP support site, which seems to have been deliberately coded with the single purpose of driving innocent people insane? Thanks.

I'm wondering if instead of buying a splitter, I can just have the headphone and speaker playing at the same time.

I have a stereo system that sounds better than the pc speakers, but the bass isn't as good as the pc speaker's subwoofer. All i want to do is be able to plug in the stereo system into the front headphone slot while having the pc speakers plugged into the back speaker slot and be able to play both at the same time.

What would be even better, but probably not possible, is if I could hook the pc speaker's subwoofer up to the stereo system but thats probably a lot of trouble..

Is there a way that I could make the 2 pc speakers and the 2 stereo system speakers be recognized by the computer as a 4 speaker system? again, probably impossible or too much trouble.

A:How can i play through headphones and speakers at the same time?

You plug the stereo system into the rear channel and the PC speakers to the front channel (or vice versa) - that's what i have set up and it works just fine.

You need to fiddle with your soundcard settings to get it to run in 4 speaker mode.

I'm using Realtek HD Audio Manager, and i want to play both.
I have headphone + mic in the 2 front jacks, and sub + speakers back.
When i use the headphone settings on the headphones, the sound is good in the headphones, but it wont play in the speakers, when i put "line out" on the headphones, it will play on both speakers and headphones.
The thing is, the sound is much worse on the headset when using line out on it.
Is there any solution?

Your drivers may have a setting that allows you to play different things through the headphones than the speakers. I bet you could find a solution using that setting.

My Speakers play when my Heaphones are plugged in

I have looked at previous solutions such as going to search and sound and changing to default. But on my control pannel of sound I only have the options of Speakers and Bluetooth Headphones not Speakers and Headphones as I assume I am supposed to have as any solution I have seen requires that.

Someone help urgently as I am going on holiday and would like to be able to watch films on my laptop

A:Speakers play when headphones are plugged in

First, are you using the correct sound driver? What do you show in the Device Manager for Sound? If it's "HD Audio Codec" that is most likely the problem as that is just a generic, basic function driver installed by Windows. If that is the case get the correct sound driver as that probably will fix it.

Some sound systems, such as those with RealTek sound, have a control panel with the option to have both the speakers and headphones on (as you have it now) or only the headset when a headset is plugged in.

If you have RealTek, go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and the RealTek HD Audio Manager will be listed. Access the manager and then click on Device Advanced Settings. The panel that comes up has the option. See my screenshot.
If you have some other sound, some have this option.

Hi there
This sometimed happens with Realtek HD sound cards when the sound card is integrated into the Mobo.

Download and re-install the driver AND HD audio application.

(even if your sound card is not a REALTEK one I'd still re-install the driver (from the MOBO driver set / sound card CD) AND THE APPLICATION -- most of the sound card driver software usually has an application as well (such as a mixer. graphic equalizer etc).

So, my problem is that both the speakers and the headphones play in my HP laptop at the same time.

When I go into my playback devices I have three options:

1. ATI HDMI Output
2. Speakers and headphones (same device)
3. headphones

When my headphones are connected the third still shows them as unconnected but sound will play through both the speakers and the headphones.

I am wondering if there's any way that I can fix this so that I can have sound play out of just one or the other.

I have tried the following things:

-system restore
-updating my sound drivers

Thanks for any future help.

A:Headphones and speakers play at the same time

With no system specs specified we can't say exactly. But, in newer HD audio sound systems they autodetect when something is plugged in. If you have one of these devices it is either the driver or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.

I was having some issues with my harddrive having a memory leak and it was running out of space. I tried to install a Nvidia driver and everything got screwed up on my computer. I use a sli system with two video cards. I didn't realize at first it was my harddrive, so I switched the cards ports and later managed to get the video driver to install correctly after clearing space on my harddrive. My physical speakers have not worked since.

I can get audio to play perfectly now from my headphones, but my speakers will not play sound no matter how hard I try. I've tried making sure they're enabled, I've tried re-installing the audio driver multiple times. I've tried everything I can think of with my sound settings and I can't figure out what's going on. My physical speakers are a surround sound system. I have 3 ports (black, orange, green used right now) that my speakers use. The computer detects that these are hooked up in the realtek control panel (ports are highlighted while the rest are transparent).

In order to rule out an actual issue with the speakers, I tapped the tips of the plugins for the speakers and it reacted to tapping with sounds from the speakers.

I've cloned the harddrive to a new fixed one with a higher memory capacity since this problem started. I did a test for corruption with command "sfc /scannow" in run and found nothing. The new harddrive hasn't fixed the problem.

Any ideas?

A:Sound will play from headphones but not speakers. (Desktop)

Check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. Your "Speakers" (the RealTek) should be set as the Default Audio Playback device. If not, you will not get any speaker sound.

As you installed NVIDIA and whatever with the video, the HDMI may have been set as the default playback device, and in this case the headphones would work but not the speakers.

Hi there

I have an Acer Aspire laptop and bought a little bass speaker that will enhance what I currently have on my laptop.

Only problem however is that when plugging this speaker into the headphone jack my internal speakers don't play anymore.

How can I play through both my internal laptop speaker and through this external speaker at the same time.

Your help would be much appreciated!

A:Play sound through internal speakers and headphones simultaneously

For most systems dual sound is impossible. Actually I'm not sure if that is possible at all on any card at all...I've browsed around the internetz, and this is what everyone seems to say on this subject.
My advice would be if you are using your laptop for home use only, just go buy external speakers as well, as long as you have 2 sound ports. If not you can get a splitterand plug both the bass and speakers in that.
Sorry I couldn't be of much more help!

Check for  any settings in he Bios.  You might be able to turn audio and microphone on or off there.
If the audio is not listed in Device Manager, in some form, the boot may not be picking it up.  The Realtek audio or at least High Definition audio device should show up.  If you have a device which shows as unknown, that might be it but missing a driver.

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

A:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

Hi everyone,

I am currently having problems using my new Plantronics headset with my computer (win7, intel quad core 2.4ghz processor, asus pk5 deluxe wireless mobo, 4gb corsair ram, onboard sound card, geforce 9600gt graphics card). It recognizes that I have a headset plugged into the front USB port, installed the driver software no problem, and displays in the volume mixer that there is sound playing over the headset. However, no sound comes out.

Here's what I have done to try to solve the problem:

1. Turned the volume on the speakers up.
2. Plugged the speakers into another computer (they work no problem -- the speakers are plug-and-play)
3. Plugged in another USB device into the port to see if the port is dead (the port works)
4. Restarted the computer and rebooted with the speakers plugged in. (still recognizes it, but no sound plays)
5. Checked the device manager to see if it is recognized (it is)
6. Checked the win7 troubleshooting guide to see if it detected any problems (windows cannot detect any)
7. Checked the headset and my motherboard to see if the drivers are updated (they are)

As an additional note, I have a Logitech 5.1 surround sound speaker set as well. It plugs into the back of my computer and works no problem. When I play my Zune player, I'll set the default player to the speakers, and music will play. I'll switch it then to the headset, and nothing will come out. Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? I used to have an older, HP Pavillion (don't ask me which one I have no idea) and the headphones worked great on that. On my current computer, however, the only sound that will go through the headphones are the test sounds. So I plug them into the speaker jack in the back, and no sound whatsoever. I go onto the audo devices panel and there are three devices on there. There is "Digital Output (S/PDIF)", "Communication Headphones", and "Speakers/Headphones". My headphones are still plugged into the speaker jack in the back and I disable the Digital Output device. The headphones start working, but the volume is really low, even on 100% power. I plug them into the heaphone jack on the front of the case and they still aren't working. I notice that all three devices are run by the same audio controller, IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. I then go onto the device manager to see if there are any driver updates that I need to install and I notice that there is another audio controller listed; AMD High Definition Audio Device. For whatever reason, this controller is disabled and when I go onto the properties it does not allow me to enable it (the enable button is grayed out).

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

IWantToCryevery time I plug in any audio device
Hello. What kind of audio devices. Like analog headphones plugged into the headphone port, or like a usb sound card plugged into a usb port, or something else?
IWantToCryIve updated all drivers
Have you reinstalled the audio driver?
1. Open the Device Manager2. Expand the Sound, Video & Game Controllers section.3. Right click on the Realtek and select to uninstall.4. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then ok.5. Restart the laptop and go back to the Device Manager and check again for a Realtek driver. Keep uninstalling & restarting until Realtek no longer appears under Sound...Controllers and "High Definition Audio Device" appears in its place. "High Definition Audio Device" is the name of the native driver.
[The reason you might have to go through the process more than once is because the driver files for more than one Realtek driver could be on the hard drive. When a Realtek driver is removed, the next one gets installed if Windows can locate the files. Windows installs its generic driver only after all Realtek files have been removed.]
6. At this point, test the audio while the native driver is installed and see if the same problem occurs.
7. When finished testing, download and install a fresh copy of the Realtek driver for your operating system. Get it from your Dell support page. Test the audio again
If the same problem occurs with both the Realtek and the native d... Read more

The situation is, I want to put a CD in my computer and play Halo Wars' soundtrack while playing some StarCraft 2. Of course, not to bother anyone, I plug my headphones. The problem occurs once I enter the game. Everything goes well until that moment, everything is playing in my headphones and suddenly, booms, the speakers of my computer starts playing everything and I don't seem to be good enough with the volume mixer to be able to make it all go into the headphones. Thanks for help.

A:Problem about playing sounds in my headphones only

Canada, welcome to Sevenforums!

Wow, this is very very strange. If I assume your are playing the audio cd in the drive, and starcraft is loaded on your computer without needing a CD, am I assuming correctly? That is a lot of music, do you have Starcraft music disabled?

Without knowing very much about your computer, you might simply look for a place on your speakers to plug headphones in and use your speakers (speakers>headphones) as your only audio output. Or you might consider unplugging the speakers and plugging in the headphones.

Any other function would have to be through software. So you would have to look up your audio device's software (and windows standard audio controls) and change any other settings through them. Make sure your audio driver is up to date.

Hello. It seems to be a common problem with that model that Dell has not addressed. See this thread, XPS 9550 Headphone/audio issue.

Hello there! I've been looking all over the net and asked my friends and tried out various things, but nothing seems to work and I'm quite clueless as to what to do now to solve this problem.

Before I start, here is the complete list of my computer's specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...67&lc=en&cc=ca&dlc=en&product=3462903&lang=en

My computer is identical to what is listed there, except that I have a legit version of Windows XP installed on it instead of Vista. The Vista that came with the computer caused way too many problems and I couldn't do what I wanted with my computer so I decided to use XP till Vista gets some of its stuff fixed. I've installed all the necessary XP versions of the drivers on my computer and everything is working fine and dandy, except for one thing. For some reason, when I record sound using my headset, it also records the sounds heard on the headset at the time of the recording. My speakers aren't on and there's no way the mic could pick the sound up from my headphones, the sound isn't *that* loud. This happens with normal Windows sound recording, Ventrilo, Skype... Everything. If I speak on Ventrilo while listening to music, the music gets transmitted as well even though it's playing from my headphones. The recording used to be fine on Vista and on my old computer where I've always had XP installed. Not really sure what I should try to do now or where to start solving t... Read more

I've posted this elsewhere, but wanted to see if I could get some help here's what I've got so far...

I don't know how better to describe it than that. All audio on my computer, when played through a headset, sounds off. Either it has a faint "underwater" sound or some other distortions. Voices will be too quiet and echo, while background audio will be loud and jarring. I've used several different headsets, and tested them on different devices, and they seem to look fine. I've used them directly in the computer's audio out, which I thought was the problem, but I've also tried using USB headphones, and using my phone and it's USB as a third party. And even odder, things seem to sound fine when played through the computer's speakers. I could be wrong about that one and just not noticing, but it seems alright.

I'm on an Acer Aspire 7551, and this sound issue seems new. Like I said, I thought the issue was the port, and that could be an unrelated problem, but it's even giving me trouble through USB ports which are fine otherwise.
I have a temporary solution that I don't like, but maybe it will offer some insight for anyone who will know what my problem is?

Like I said, speakers work fine, no problem.

When using headphones, I can make it bearable by going into playback devices' options, and adjusting the balance left or right, and turning the other to zero. Regardless if I have it to left or right, there's no more echo or distortion. Obv... Read more
