Cannot preview html editor's webpage in Internet Explorer

Q: Cannot preview html editor's webpage in Internet Explorer

I have been using TopDawg HTML editor, but when I click to preview the page I coded, I click on default browser, IE, but it only opens Notebook. I went to folder options, to choose what opens an html page but the apply button stopped working. another site had me download to desktop this reg fixer: exefix and double click it so regedit would apply the fix but it didn't help. Even on an other html editor, I can't seem to preview the page in IE. I tried Internet options, programs, HTML editor, but I can't change the default Notepad. Any suggestions? btw, I did run my registry booster but nothing helps. any help is appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,My Avira keeps finding daily everytime I scan it.....HTML/Exploit.Mhtml HTML and HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen HTML script viruses. This has been going on a long time. The only thing I have noticed is high cpu 90-100% in task manager all the time, which does'nt seem to impact the speed of the computer. Occasionally, I pick up things in Malwarebytes and Spybot if I neglect to run a scan on Avira for a few days. I've also scanned Adaware and Avast but nothing shows up on them. I've inherited a Windows 2008 R2 server (no snickering and let's stay on topic please).

It's on a closed, flat network.

There's a webserver elsewhere in this closed, flat network.

All the other hosts in this network can go to the webserver and see the landing page.http://10.242.34.100:8000

EXCEPT the W2K8 box.

On the W2K8 box:

I've turned off IE ESC
Made sure port 8000 is allowed through the Advanced Firewall
Added http://10.242.34.100:8000 to
the trusted sites
I can indeed ping 10.242.34.100
* telnet 10.242.34.100 8000 just hangs

When I go to http://10.24.34.100:8000, it throws this error, "Internet Explorer cannot display
the webpage"

What am I missing?

Hi all,
My problem started a few weeks ago! I caught a Virus and Dr. Web got rid of it as well as some trojan downloaders that Malwarebytes killed.
The virus ruined my Avast as well as Google Chrome - so I installed Avira and Zone Alarm Firewall as well as ZA Forcefield browser. Avira continues to tell me I have a virus and quarantines it. I contacted Avira and they say it looks like a Zone Alarm problem - I contacted ZA - and am still waiting - I also uploaded these to Avira to be checked for a false positive and have not heard back from them either.
I was wondering - if I still have a problem or if this is a false positive?
Here is what Avira's log says on the last catch:

A:HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen HTML script virus

A common attack against the web infrastructure can be the infection of harmless web pages. Some malware changes every HTML file stored on the disc and adds a link (very often an IFrame) to a site hosting malicious code. Other attacks can aim for the web servers and try to insert forwarding to the pages hosted there. The owner of these pages is advised to take them offline. Fix the hole (either on his own PC or on the server), check the pages for infections, clean them and go online again. Infected Web Pages often contain additional Iframe, Object or Script Tags. The Script Tags often contain encrypted Code.Special detection HTML/Infected.WebPage.GenSince Avira is making the detection and you submitted samples, I suggest you wait on a reply from them or follow up by contacting them again with a reminder.See this Avira link for a discussion of a similar report.

All of a sudden Internet Explorer 8 and Live Messenger stopped working. I was surfing on some sites which worked okay, but I couldn't open new webpages. Live Messenger worked as normal.
I rebooted the computer to see if that would solve anything. After that, Internet Explorer doesn't work at all, it shows "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" on every webpage I visit. Have searched everywhere and tried a bunch of different tricks to solve this, but I can't make IE8 work again.

I can't start Live Messenger either, it says that the service isn't available, but my girlfriend can log on and it works with the Web Messenger.
The trouble shoot thingie makes an exclamation mark with "Network ports" and says something about faulty proxy- or firewall settings. That can't be true however since I have no proxy and the only firewall I use is Windows own, no difference whether it's activated or not. Repair doesn't do anything either.

What can be the problem?

There's no problems with Firefox and Web Messenger works too. Email is no problem either, so there is no connection problems.

I use Live Messenger 2009 and Windows 7 public beta x32.

My computer went haywire last night - apparently from visiting some website where warnings & alerts about viruses began popping up. I must have inadvertently clicked on the wrong *something* since it appears viruses have gotten through in droves. Thought we had Antivirus protection, but upon inspection it appears that "Trend Micro" was installed, but seems to have been deactivated... Not sure how this occurred, but it probably means we've been without antivirus protection for awhile. Decided to switch to Avira based on ratings, so went to uninstall Trend Micro, BUT it req's a password we don't have access to. Long story... So given that it launches but does not appear to be scanning, we left it alone. I Installed Avira last night - which seems to have detected *some* of the viruses but has been useless in removing or repairing them. For security reasons we are normally using a limited account. This account had become unusable and was diagnosed by defender with win32/FakeSpyro Trojan that was subsequently removed. We also installed and ran AVG which removed a few more items.
The problem we have with explorer 8 on the limited account is that it cannot open any web pages. Firefox works fine on that account. Explorer works also fine on the admin account. Here is the hijackthis report:

Internet Explorer won't work connect to any site whatsoever. Firefox works fine but IE won't work. (The only reason I discovered this was a problem, was because I can't get my HP printer software to work without IE and a specific Adobe Flash Player, which is [email protected]$%^&* annoying) I uninstalled IE 8, cleaned the registry with Systerac XP tools, and installed IE 7. (I subsequently allowed Update to install IE 8) I followed all of Microsoft's trouble shooters regarding this issue. I had a chat with somebody at comcast's tech support, who simply power cycled the modem and redirected me to the same microsoft troubleshooter. I followed all the instructions from a post here with the same title from October (results posted below) and still can't get IE to connect. After the cmd info below, I've posted the IE network diagnostics log....Thank you guys for creating this site.

THIS IS THE NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS FOR WINDOWS XP

windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP,HTTPS, OR FTP. This
is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80), HTTPSport(443)and FTPPORT(21)

YOU MIGHT NEED TO CONTACT YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP) OR THE

In internet explorer, go to tools, internet options, connections, lan settings and make sure that ONLY the automatically detect settings is checked. If that doesn't work, try reseting internet explorer in advanced tab of internet options. Then, try uninstall/reinstall both apps (ie and chrome).

Hi everyone,

I've recently changed to a wireless router (Netgear DG834G) and I've started to get errors when I try to connect to webpages that I've had no problems connecting to in the past. I keep getting the error message 'Internet Explorer Cannot Display The Webpage'.

I tried searching the net to see if I could get any help and found a reference to Network Diagnostic Tools, I ran the scan and it said that my network adaptors failed and my IP Address failed (though I don't really understand what any of that means )

I'm using Internet Explorer 7 and running Windows XP.

Any help would be really useful as it's getting real annoying when these pages don't load (and it's happening quite a lot now)

Cheers

I have a problem with my laptop recently in that although I can send and receive e-mails, I can also connect to the internet via Internet Explorer, but I cannot see any webpages. All I get is 'Internet Explorer cant dislay webpage'. I then tried 'system restore' to an earlier date (as I suspect that one of the updates is causing the problem) and then it worked fine. However, a couple of days later I had the same problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this annoying problem and what I can do to stop it happeneing again?
Many thanks in advance!

A:Internet Explorer cant display webpage

If it's only IE and not any other browser you might use then you can reset IE and see if it helps. It might be a bad add on causing it.
Internet Explorer - Reset

To use IE in safe mode, Start menu-accessories-system tools-IE no add ons.

Sorry, I tried to do a search on this phrase but all I get is a white screen!!

I am using XP SP2 with IE 7.0.5730.11 and with Norton InternetSecurity 2007. When I try to access a web-based Crystal Report via our webserver I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" at the exact point when the ActiveX viewer (crviewer.dll) would normally kick in on my machine. The ActiveX viewer (crviewer.dll) is correctly registered on my machine.

My ActiveX security settings are as follows:

Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt
Enable
Allow Scriptlets
Disable
Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls
Enable
Binary and script behaviours
Enable
Display video and animation on a web page that does not use external
media player
Disable
Download signed ActiveX controls
Prompt
Download unsigned ActiveX controls
Disable
Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting
Disable
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Enable
Script ActiveX controls marked as safe from scripting*
Enable

I contacted Norton tech support and they say this is a problem with IE7 (of course they would). The reports downloaded perfectly well with IE6 and NIS 2006.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance!

Peter Tyler

I have a similar problem. The website I cannot move on to other pages is the MLB.com (Atlanta braves home page), especially the pages regarding to ?secure.mlb.com/??, That particular page is completely blocked (or cannot be displayed) and it is not happening occasionally, it just never comes up.

What it is so frustrating is because it involves with log in page and if I cannot log in, I cannot view the MLB tv which I paid for whole year. Every other website pages I tried worked, including ebay, hotmail, amazon?s login page; it just does not work with secured pages of the websites that I paid for.

Does anyone have the same problem as me? I will try the ?no-adds-on? method but I have another computer with XP and IE6 installed and the same problem happened to it as well. I started thinking it is because of my ISP but my ISP said nothing is wrong with my internet.

I also thought it was the problem with my router and I tried different router using my account, it still does not work. I even changed my MAC address and nothing worked. It is really starting to annoy me. I really really need some help.

Hello,

Lots of things could cause this!

First off try resetting Internet Explorer back to default

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

I would recommend running some soft of malware scan on that computer too. (even if you have a anti virus installed)

Try http://www.malwarebytes.org/ its the best.

I have windows 7 on my laptop. While using the internet with no issues a message from avast kept popping up saying there was a security issue. I ran a scan and the message stopped coming up. I restarted my computer and was able to get an internet connection but when I opened Internet explorer it said "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage". So I tried using the inernet through the Mozilla Firefox shortcut on my desktop. The internet worked and I was able to browse using Mozilla. But when I went to use it again today Mozilla won't even open and Internet explorer is giving me the same message as before. I can still receive emails but can't respond or follow links in emails. Very frustrating and have no idea where to start! Please help!!

Looks like you've managed to pickup some kind of malware or virus. If it's a smart virus, it might have disabled avast.

Hay, i need to apologize in advance if i have posted in the wrong place or if i don't make much sense (I am a newbie).

well my problem is
A website i frequently visit suddenly started returning as 'IE cannot display webpage' (one minuet it was working, the next it wasn't). I have windows 7 home premium and a wifi (thing ). I have no problem with any other website.

I have tried
restarting my pc, taking out power cords, clearing my history/cookies etc., tried opening website with another browser, tried opening in safe mode (same outcome), I followed the suggestions from Microsoft and figured out via command prompt that there is 75% loss (which apparently is not good?), my pc is configured properly but it cannot connect to the website (website is not down). i even went as far as a system restore. The funny thing is, i cannot connect to the website via my Iphone which is not connected with my wifi at all. {edit} have also disabled firewall and add-on's

If anyone could help me, would be greatly appreciated.

I am however when browsing the internet I am plagued by continually getting the white screen that says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". However as soon as I click on the web address again in Favourites the page almost always immediately loads. Sometimes if I refresh the page instead the page loads. When I check my connection it is always OK.
I am not getting the advertised speeds but am happy if I get about 1900kbps but whenever I run Dan Elwells speedtest there are always so many download errors from UK Servers that the tests are aborted.
Obviouly something is not right so I was wondering whether anybody has any bright ideas. Thanks. Roger

The following was put together mostly by etaf with a little help from me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atheros AR5007EG & AR5007
We have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters for about a year, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines
- the poster did an online scan for driver updates on the HP website here HP Product Detection which resulted in a solution. Solved: Can't connect to internet wirelessly - Atheros AR5007 Wifi through Clear Comm - Tech Support Guy Forums

At first my Internet Explorer was not able to pop up. So I had to download Firefox from my AOL 9.0 so I could at least download IE8. I upgraded to IE8 but now I get the error message below:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

What you can try:
It appears you are connected to the Internet, but you might want to try to reconnect to the Internet.

Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

Most likely causes:
?You are not connected to the Internet.
?The website is encountering problems.
?There might be a typing error in the address.

More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

?Internet connectivity has been lost.
?The website is temporarily unavailable.
?The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
?The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
?If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

Hi there.

Ok Let me first say I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section of the forum. The problem appears to be a network problem but I am almost certain it was caused first off by a virus.

Ok the problem is as follows, I sometimes get that message when loading up websites which says "Internet Explorer Cannot Display This Webpage". When this happens I am connected to the internet and can be downloading, talking on msn or ventrillo or doing anything else that requires internet access. I then have to keep refreshing the page until the website loads up (sometimes this can happen right away and other times it takes several refreshes until the internet explorer decides it can display the webpage. Also sometimes when website do load they seem to load what looks like a simplified version on the website, kind of like a printer friendly version and I then have to refresh the page again.

The problem all started the about 4 or 5 days ago when i was surfing the web when suddenly a virus virus downloaded itself onto my computer. It was that Anti-Malware Doctor along with a load of other malware that gets downloaded with it. By using a number of programs such as Malware Bytes and, Spybot:Search & Destroy and HiJack this I managed to get rid of all the viruses off my computer.

Now I am fairly confident that I am malware free as I have run several scans of my system using malwarebytes and SB:S&D (all fully updated) and found no trace of malware, but even s... Read more
