I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: powercfg x220

Looks OK to me. That's what I see on my ThinkPads.

What about that concerns you? I admit not being well-versed in this, but if one of the sleep states is supported, what's the problem?

My understanding is that it's supposed to enable/disable hibernation. But it doesn't seem to do anything to the settings of any power scheme. I would expect it to change some of the hibernation settings in the active power scheme.

My system has four power schemes. I used 'powercfg -l' to get their guids and dumped their settings out with 'powercfg -query <guid>'. I did this after doing 'powercfg -h off' and again after doing 'powercfg -h on'. Then I compared the output with 'comp' and they were identical.

So what is it actually doing if it the changes it makes don't show up in a power scheme?

i read that to enable hibernation, you need to run powercfg -h on from elevated command prompt. I did that, do a logoff, restart, shutdown, but it's still not appearing.

what am i missing?

I would like to be able to put the display to sleep even though media player classic (mpc-hc) is running.

I open an admin command prompt and type

powercfg -requests

As you can see, mpc-hc.exe is preventing me from putting the display to sleep.

So I enter an override command:

Unfortunately, when I execute -requests again, "mpc-hc" still will prevent display sleeping. Even after reboot the -request still shows mpc-hc.exe preventing display sleep and it does indeed prevent display sleep.

What am I doing wrong?

A:Need help with powercfg -requestsoverride

Maybe this can help? Turn Off Display - Add to Desktop Context Menu in Windows
Works in W7 by the way

Or there is a similar one which also locks the PC (not sure if it is in line with what you want) Lock Computer and Turn Off Monitor - Add to Desktop Context Menu

I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1. I found that I have two different versions of powercfg.exe and that a different one runs depending on whether I'm in cmd.exe or a certain other shell. I work in IT for a company and need some help plz. One of my users is having the following problem:

Investigated, approximately every 3 mins wmiprvse.exe process executes as a NETWORK SERVICE this is a legitimate service (windows management Instrumentation) this is immediately followed by execution of powercfg.exe which is an extension to the power management tools provided with SP2 and this causes a DOS prompt box to flash up on the screen. If the event security logs are checked it is possible to see several failed audits every 3 mins relating to these processes. Have run spy ware tools and removed lots of erroneous files and registry keys. Currently unable to establish cause.

User will not permit service pack 2 to be removed and reinstalled or to have her system rolled back to a previous system restore point.

How can i stop this from happenng as this dos box should not appear every 3 mins even if it is only on the sreen for half a second!

Hopefully you can see some screen shots of the events uploaded with this post

Any suggestions welcome

Cheers

I try to know what is the value of "SUB_GUID" considering that I'm able to know the value of the "SCHEME_GUID" with the command :

"powercfg -list | FINDSTR "GreenIT Standard""
Then, for that, i try to use the command :
 "powercfg -query <value_of_SCHEME_GUID>".
But it's not working.
The final goal is to update the values for the "GreenIT Standard" :
"powercfg -SETACVALUEINDEX %GUID_Group_ALIM% %GUID_Subgroup_Display% %GUID_PARAM_ALIM% 14400"

Can you name the GUID in windows 7? In a nutshell I want the imported scheme from the file to have this GUID 0016fea0-3f62-009a-5e28-25007c219azz
but everytime I import the file the GUID is diffrent which ruins the rest of the batch file

Thanks for any help

A:Powercfg windows 7

ok i figured it out it was not importing the scheme right

powercfg import "c:\LaptopPowerW7.pow" 0016fea0-3f62-009a-5e28-25007c219azz

aparently this can not have a zz at the end of the scheme line and the import needs a dash in front of it not a slash

so it needed to look like this

powercfg -import "c:\LaptopPowerW7.pow" 0016fea0-3f62-009a-5e28-25007c219a03

Hi ?

As far as I know,  the GUID changes  randomly  by default  and there is no way to make it to be a solid GUID.

For more information, you may refer to:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748940(v=WS.10).aspx

Based on my research, there has not a better solution for it.

A:POWERCFG -REQUESTSOVERRIDE doesn't work?

The command is forcing the PC in to standby/sleep mode.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555569

If this command works duing your application is running, that means maybe the "Allow sleep with remote opens = on" works, but maybe the system status doesn't meet the sleep request you configured.
Please try to receate a local admin account and boot your PC to clean boot for test:

So I can't change the sleep option for AC. The Power Configuration will not let me change the value. The field, which is set to 'Never', is greyed out. There is a warning that basically tells me to check the Group Policy settings.
Note 1:
I can change all other power configuration options apart from this one
Note 2:
This happens on all 4 Windows 7 machines in my network (private home)
Note 3:
I run SBS 2003 and have a domain. I am pretty sure that there is no Group Policy that can be set to prevent a user from changing the sleep value. I have looked and none of the policies are even close. All polices that have anything to do with power configuration are undefined.
Note 4:
I have checked the group policy settings on the computers and no, I can't find a policy that would prevent anyone from changing the sleep timer.
Note 5:
Yes, of course I have admin rights on the computer.

Anyway, hoping someone will be able to decipher this and help my computer go to sleep. Running Win7 64 Pro.

Calling all windows 10 experts! I need your help!

Just updated my Transformer T100HA to the Anniversary update. In order to get enough disk space to perform the update, I disabled hibernation with POWERCFG /h off from the command line, which disabled hibernation, deleted the hibernate file and gave me enough space to upgrade.

Now I`m successfully on the anniversary update, I simply cannot get Hibernation to turn on again. Heres what I`ve tried to far,

Registry change (from this very foum) - tried both the .REG file and updating manually.
POWERCFG /h ON from and elevated command line
Full system restore/reset from settings

Still I cant see the option to hibernate in advanced power options!

When I look in power options the hibernation option is simply not there.

Really appreciate some help as I`ve run out of ideas. thanks!

A:Can`t enable Hibernation! - Regedit/POWERCFG not helping!

Go to: Control Panel - Power Options - Change Plan Settings - Change Advanced Power Settings.Choose, when you want to hibernate, eg. Power buttons and lid - Power button action - Hibernate.

When hiberfil.sys file is created on C partition, you will know, that you have succeeded.

in windows 7 i created a power plan and exported it as 'custom.pow' with the powercfg command.
I'm trying to create a .bat file using powercfg, such as
> powercfg -import %CD%\custom.pow
> powercfg -setactive <GUID>

the catch is the setactive flag wants a GUID and not the file custom.pow.
what I've done so far is run powerfg import manually on a system and generated a random GUID, then copied that GUID into my script. Is that ok to do in the long run?
or is there a better way to do it?
i don't know how to take the output of the "powercfg -import" command that gives me the random GUID and use that in the following "powercfg -setactive" command.

A:powercfg command and random GUID with setactive help windows 7

If I read powercfg command line switches help correctly
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...(v=ws.10).aspx

the -list switch should give you the guid for a scheme and the
-duplicatescheme switch should give you a new guid for example, to change one setting or whatnot.

But I haven't messed with it. I'm just going by the info on the page.

The screen saver and power settings will not engage. I set to turn off monitors in 1 minute and even if i leave for a hour they are still on. Same with screen saver.

I came across powercfg and ran

Quote:
powercfg -REQUESTS

and it showed

Quote:
SYSTEM:
[DRIVER] Realtek High Definition Audio (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0889&SUBSYS
_14627577&REV_1000\4&16525e8e&0&0201)
An audio stream is currently in use.

Okay, so even though I don't have any audio playing, it seems like the Realtek driver is causing the system to basically reset the timer. I tried to disable it by invoking the powercfg device disable wake argument and i get a permissions issue.

Quote:
powercfg -DEVICEDISABLEWAKE "Realtek High Definition Audio"
You do not have permission to enable or disable device wake.

The issue is that I have ran CMD as administrator and am logged in as an administrator. I am running the latest version of Realtek driver for Windows 7, why would this happen? suggestions on getting this resolved?

A:Screen saver - monitors off - wont work - powercfg

uninstalled realtek drivers to just run windows drivers. didnt fix it.

any suggestions?

Hello,

I have the following three observations concerning powercfg /waketimers

1
When powercfg /waketimers shows a task, the time when that task will run is about the same as specified in the trigger for that task in Task Scheduler. But when making changes to the trigger time of that task and then looking at powercfg /waketimers still the original (unchanged) time is shown.

2
Only after a reboot the powercfg /waketimers shows (sometimes) a task (even when having a task triggered to run each day (with the option Allow to wake the computer).

3
When creating a new task in the task scheduler to wakeup the computer (some hours later) and then looking in powercfg /waketimers that task is not shown.

Can somebody confirm that all this is "by design" or is my computer not working correctly.

Can I make powercfg to refresh its settings?
(I tried sc stop Schedule / sc start Schedule but that did not help.)

Do you still need assistance with this issue?

Hello Windows 10 Community,

I'm currently in the process of finalizing my Windows 10 install by configuring all the little details I typically do, but for some reason I cannot get my computer to sleep after the specified time in the Control Panel. On Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 I was able to successfully get my computer to sleep after making entries in the REQUESTSOVERRIDE of the POWERCFG Windows utility, and when doing the same thing in Windows 10 it still refuses to sleep. I have posted some details below to assist in the troubleshooting, and if any other details are needed please let me know and I would be happy to provide them.

Thank you all in advance for your insight, and I hope that you all have a wonderful day!

I'm having some issues with trying to send my computer into suspend. I've done quite a bit of research and know how I should be able to resolve it, but when I run powercfg -requests I get the following output:

I've shut down every running process with no success in blocking the offender. I have no devices in my device manager that report having a problem with them. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this or find out what the ? is referring to?

Thanks.

Firstly, i was on problem where my monitor stopped to turn off in 1 minute (Im using auto turn off monitor). I tried to figure out what the problem is. Then i tried the settings on command prompt. I used "powercfg.exe /?" to see the list of available commands and i modified value of "powercfg-change-monitor-timeout-ac" into 0.1

And, it doesnt work. My monitor still wont shut. Next, i reboot my computer and after that, i waited for 1 min on my desktop and monitor finally turned off.

lol. So the problem is because i havent reboot my computer yet.

So my question is, what is the default value of that setting (powercfg-change-monitor-timeout-ac) and what is the function of that command? I need to revert it back to default because i have screw it up.

Thanks.

A:Default value of "powercfg-change-monitor-timeout-ac"

Hi! I have some questions regarding my X220.I purchased it back in 2011 and it has been my loyal companion ever since, but lately it has gotten very slow and it's temperature rises very quickly.Instead of buying a new laptop (which is not that easy as a student..), I would rather change some of the components inside. But is it worth the effort with this laptop? Also, please notice that my hardware knowledge is weak, though if necessary I will be able to learn how to change RAM, harddisk etc. very quickly. I have been looking at several system monitoring softwares; either they do not provide with enough information, or they are too detailed and advanced for me to understand. So I have not been able to troubleshoot properly. Some info:Processor: Intel® Core? i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz × 4Graphics: Intel® Sandybridge MobileOS: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 64-bitHDD: 250 GB (I don't know any more details about the harddisk)Please tell me if you need more info. I have cleaned it from unessecary files and programs. I will use it mainly for running Matlab and for data analysis in ROOT.My first thought was to change RAM and also the harddisk, maybe get a SSD. But will it fix the problem entirely? (also the temperature problem?) Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should approach these problems?Any help is much appreciated!! /EUY

I noticed that the Intel Centrino N1000 in my X220 does not do Bluetooth so this means my rig has a separate solution. So I was wondering, once I get a witelist free BIOS, what options can I use to modernize my machine? The latest is Bluetooth 5 and there are not even any USB models on the street yet.

Hello. I took apart my X220 but forgot to put the DC jack back in. I couldn't find it anywhere (very likely due to cats), so I ordered a new one off of amazon (this one). The new one only came with the jack and cord, but not the little metal plate (also lost) that holds it in place. After I put that in the computer, I plugged it in, but I saw some sparks and quickly pulled it out. So, I'm thinking the part was probably bad, but I figured I'd inquire about another possibility that occurred to me:Does the metal plate do any grounding? Or is it just there to secure the part in place? I'm about to order this one from ebay. This time I looked up the part number and it's a match. I just wanted to make sure that it will be safe to install without the metal plate. Thank you.

I recently brought a used x220 on ebay. Been using it for about 2 weeks so far so good. The laptop does have some issues. I would like to know how do I replace the top lid of an x220? I've ready seen videos on how to replace the screen so I kinda got the hang of replacing the bezel. I just want to know how do I replace the top panel because top right side of the lid is a bit weak. Thanks.

A:How do I replace the lid of an x220

Good day.

Pretty much all of the steps are outlined in the HMM: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60739_04.pdf

Essentially, you'll need to remove the LCD, pull the hinge screws, carefully lift the antennae tapes, and then reinstall all the parts into the replacement lid. Section 2010 is a good starting point.

Hi!So my monitor was fine all these times and all of a sudden it started to flicker. The only thing I can remember is the battery died so this sudden symptom kind of boggles me.  Please bear with me as I try to explain the problem. So the monitor blinks on and off and I can see what is on the screen before it turns off then back on again. It does the same thing in BIOS, Windows (hd1) and RHEL (hd2). I see the keyboard power led green link blink randomly on and off, the caps lock light won't turn on when I push it and also if I try to logon or type, there is a delayed response and sometimes it doesn't recognize what I pushed whether in terminal or BIOS. I tried these things to try and narrow down the problem: 1. I reseated the lcd video connector.2. I reseted the keyboard.3. I tried another lenovo keyboard.4. With the lcd plugged in still, and I try to attach and external monitor on vga/DP, the external would never show anything. You can see it recognized the signal but before it showed anything it would go to sleep. The laptop lcd would not show anything with an external plugged.5. I removed the laptop lcd and plugged in an external monitor. It doesn't flicker anymore in bios, but there is a delay in what I type on the lenovo keyboard and sometimes it doesn't recognize key presses. When I load windows the external montior goes to sleep and the keyboard power led blinks on and off and I can hear the fan turn on and off constantly. When I load RHEL, it ... Read more

Hello,

Officially, 8GB is the maximum amount of memory that the X220 is supported for, i.e., tested and verified to work with.

That said, I have 16GB (2×8GB DDR3 SO-DIMMs) installed in mine and it seems to work fine without any problems.
