New vector for malware distribution?

Q: New vector for malware distribution?

You have to hand it to them, it's a twist on social engineering that hadn't been attempted to spread malware, that I know of anyway.I had the opportunity to examine malware whose initial infection vector was a car windshield flier with a website address. The malicious programs were run-of-the-mill; however, the use of fliers was an innovative way of social-engineering potential victims into visiting a malicious website.Several days ago, yellow fliers were placed on the cards in Grand Forks, ND. They stated:PARKING VIOLATION This vehicle is in violation of standard parking regulations. Preferred Solution: New vector for malware distribution?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The following link reports Emsisoft malware removal statistics by type (2015):

Antivirus, Anti-Malware, Anti-PUP? What is Emsisoft really?

Such data is important when crafting your security config. What it shows is that, at the time the data was collected and reported, the probability of a Trojan, Bot, Backdoor and Rootkit infection is 14 %, an exploit is only 1 % and a virus 0.2 %. On the other hand there is a 79 % chance of encountering a potentially unwanted application\program (PUA\PUP).

What the above statistics do not indicate is what proportion of the PUAs\PUPs are just mere annoyances versus the more sinister ones - those that will attempt to download and install a Trojan, Bot, Backdoor, Rootkit, VIrus, etc.

The incidence of ransomware is not specified, but more recent data suggests approximately 2 %.

It is important to understand the following:

If you do not download and install applications - or - only install applications from trusted publishers from their direct download links, use built-in system\browser protections, use safe computing habits, then the probability that your system will be infected is virtually 0 % !

For a significant portion of adult users, a security soft such as Emsisoft Anti-Malware or Emsisoft Internet Security is sufficient.

Well, apparently I got this lovely thing on my desktop today:

First, I really cannot understand how someone can inject code into an executable without changing its signature and certificate. I really cannot understand. So if anybody can explain me that, I love learning new things and I really would like to know.

Second, I had been experiencing some weird things occurring for the past week or two. My windows store broke, it uninstalled itself. And with it, every software associated to it broke too. Like for example, outlook, that has quite some sensible information in my microsoft university account. Also, from time to time, my timestamp would change to 8:00 something of the actual day we were on, despite it being on auto. I'd have to manually configure it. I'm not sure if it's to do with this, but it's somewhat likely that it has.
If you're experiencing some similar symptoms, hour change or windows store uninstall, you might want to check your ccleaner install date.

Third and even more severe, I don't even know how I got it. My machine had ccleaner installed, but I was 6 months out of my country (since february, 10) and I haven't used ccleaner (and I am sure of it), since at least January of this year.
And further than that, I revoked its rights to auto update, like I do to every other software and I revoked its rights to start up on boot in the day I installed ccleaner (more than half a year ago at least). And I just checked this, it&... Read more

Google tops comparative review of malicious search results

According to a newly released report by Barracuda Labs, based on a two-month study reviewing more than 25,000 trending topics and 5.5 million search results, Google remains the most popular search engine used by malicious attackers, relying on poisoned keywords. The company, which also sampled Yahoo Search, Bing, and Twitter, contributes Google?s leading position to the fact that Google remains the market share leader in online search, and consequently the most targeted search engine.
Key highlights of the study:

Overall, Google takes the crown for malware distribution ? turning up more than twice the amount of malware as Bing, Twitter and Yahoo! combined when searches on popular trending topics were performed. Google presents at 69 percent; Yahoo! at 18 percent; Bing at 12 percent; and Twitter at one percent.
The average amount of time for a trending topic to appear on one of the major search engines after appearing on Twitter varies tremendously: 1.2 days for Google, 4.3 days for Bing, and 4.8 days for Yahoo!
Over half of the malware found was between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. GMT. The top 10 terms used by malware distributors include the name of a NFL player, three actresses, a Playboy Playmate and a college student who faked his way into Harvard.

A:hmm...Google takes the crown for malware distribution

Why am I not surprized to hear that one?! They get the first class trophy award for sure!

With the recent addition of a new av program which includes a very protective firewall the first thing noticed is that the firewall will tend to block more sites in a Google search result then with Bing, Yahoo, ask, or any other search engine when tasked.

Yet despite warnings a few people still set the Google search page as their own home page?

Google toolbar addons for browsers like FireFox are a common annoyance to uncheck.

I have PS 7 and doing tutorials, also looking for info in their online HELP.

I'm getting a lot of info about the difference in rastor/Bitmp and Vector. That Vector should be used for logos because it will enlarge bigger and stay clear, etc.

How do I get an image to be vector?

I tried SEARCH here and found some close answers but no question/answers that are clear and direct.

In one of the HELP files about it, it shows a photo of a bicycle, and how parts of it can be enlarged and stay clear, if it's a vector, but not raster (bitmp, and I suppose jpg, etc)

If I draw something outright on a new canvas, and save it, I still get the same options (default being photoshop) gif, jpg, bitmp, etc. Nothing I see says anything about "vector" as a format to save it.

Apparently from what I've seen (which is mainly the difference in the two and which is better for what use) one can save a drawing OR photo as vector. Or maybe set it up (somehow) at the start for this?

I'm just getting into learning about layers, paths, etc. Maybe it's something to do with that? Setting it up a certain way to be vector? What file extension will it be (as vector)?

Trying to explain what I mean, to make it clear. As I said all I can find are lessons that tell what the difference is, and why one is better than another.

How do I set up and/or save (have) it in vector mode?

Can it be converted with PS7? (I also have PSP7, but currently focusing on PS.

I'm (trying to) writing a game called mancala, but I am running into a few problems.

I have a Move(int&, int) function that is supposed to take away stones from pits moving in a counter-clockwise direction, but I can't seem to be able to get it to work.

Header File...

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <vector>

using namespace std;

class Mancala{
vector<int> Pits;

void Move(int&, int);
void PrintBoard();
void PrintResult(){};
// bool IsValidMove(int,int){};
// bool EndGame(void){};

A:C++ Vector Question

Don't know the game, but ...

In Mancala::Move, the loop runs forever. Did you mean ++i instead?
Also, in that function you're not doing anything with Player (at least yet) and you're just adding more elements to Pits.

Anyway, for example, if I enter 5 stones in each pit, the pits vector will look like this:

pits[0] = 5;
pits[1] = 5;
pits[2] = 5;
pits[3] = 5;
pits[4] = 5;
pits[5] = 5
pits[6] = 0;
pits[7] = 5;
pits[8] = 5;
pits[9] = 5;
pits[10] = 5;
pits[11] = 5;
pits[12] = 5;
pits[13] = 0;

If player one chooses, pit 3, what do you want the pits vector to look like after move() is called?

A:Solved: Java Vector

All I can tell you is that in C/C++, vectors accept a type in their declaration (ex: vector<string> whateverVector
I don't remember the last time I coded anything in java, so I can't tell you for certain if Java works the same way (I dont think it does). According to the following ref., vectors in java wil hold any kind of object and don't allow you to define a specific type.

However, you should be able to code something that will check the objects in your vector to see if they are of the same type.

I have been following a thread in the log posting forum of a member named -Vector- who has the exact problem that I have. I am waiting to see the outcome of that before I ask any "what do I do" type questions. I do have the following observations, though:

--Before coming here, I already knew that the problem is related to so-called "Mozilla Safe Browsing" addon.

--Before coming here, I already knew that the problem is related to the long numbered folders in Appdata/Local.

--I have removed both the above and it makes no difference. The redirects occur whether or not they are visible, and over time, one or the other or both always reappear. Maybe they serve as some distracting decoy.

I got VectorWorks recently to use for my scenic designs and Lighting

Previously, I was only doing student projects, so I could export my
designs as images, and then use Powerpoint and an LC projector to
present them.

I am now working on the design for a real show (one that we are
actually producing) and I have run into a dilemma: I have no idea
how to print it.

All I own is an 8 1/2" x 11" laser printer, and the document is
almost 6 feet long!

I went to Kinkos, but the guy said that they can only print Adobe
Files. I could export as an image, and past it in illustrator, but
then it becomes a photo, and is no longer to scale.

Another company, who supposedly specializes in blueprinting, will
only take computer files in .PDF (Acrobat) format. I don't have
Acrobat pro, and I think that that would alter the scale also,
wouldn't it?

It appears that VectorWorks expects me to be able to afford a $2,000+

Are there places that will print a VectorWorks file in it's native
format (.MCD)?

Hi all,

I have purchased a whole bunch of vectors from Shutterstock and I'm trying to simply edit the text in them.

I THOUGHT I could simply ungroup, select the text (with the selection arrow), then click on the "text" tool and then type over the existing text; and illustrator would follow the same curved path and keep the font.

So, instead of deleting or hiding the text - I want to simply change the text and keep all its formatting (colour, path, font). Can this be done? Do I really have to delete the text, then find a new font, create a new path, etc. etc. etc. (I'm not good with illustrator)?!?! If it were photoshop I'd simply click on the bloody text layer and then type. Illustrator doesn't work like this?

PDF with multiple pages and I need to copy text from one existing form field, place in a different size form field, resize, and convert to vector art for production.

Can I do this with the form field being on a separate page? AND can I convert the text to vector on this separate page specifically?

Thanks for your help!

I was looking into tips for VBA programming and I clicked on Dreamboat's link for VBA to see what I was getting into and my puter, OS=ME, came up with a download for Vector Graphics Rendering. I clicked on "download" and I got the second "error" (see attachment) I don't have a CD for Windows Upgrade". I do have the full version CD of ME. Since I didnt have the CD, I clicked OK and got the third message. Clicked OK again and it took me to the page. How can I stop it from doing that?

That file is part of IE 6.0 and not Windows ME. You should be able to update IE from the control panel in Add/Remove Programs...

Everytime I restart my computer, it tries to download and install Vector Graphic Rendering. I've tried going into the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and adding that one component, but it keeps telling me it can't install the VML. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have just purchased Zone Alarm Security Suites, and when I try to install it, I am told something about True Vector, and my computer instantly reboots... I can't read the message, as it's too long and all I catch is "True Vector". I have read some things on the Zone Alarm site, and they won't refund my product since it's 'my own computer's fault, not theirs'. Do these symptoms ring any bells to anyone? If they do, please help, because I am currently between anti-virus softwares...
Thanks in advance!

I am trying ( for the first time ) to make a vector image. I start by opening my image. I then create a blank second layer. On that layer I trace the skin ( using the pen tool ) then close the path. I right click and fill the path with the skin color I want. I then move on to the clothing. I first create a new layer for the clothing, then trace that too. The problem is that when I try to fill this with the color of the shirt, it also colors my previous "body" path. The body selection is on an entirely different layer, so I don't understand why it's doing this.

A:Solved: Vector Image Problem

are you locking the previous layers ? if the third layer, your clothing layer is in close proximity to your skin layer, your right click might be selecting both paths. try locking the first and second layers , the use the direct selection tool to select the clothing path and apply your stroke and fill. as well, make sure you havent grouped anything on accident.

I recently installed the IE 6 SP1 update. However, I keep getting an error about Vector Graphics Rendering (VML) not installing properly.

I've tried the suggestions found in this thread and this thread, but the problem still exists. And I can't find any solution through Microsoft's support pages.

Any other ideas?

Hi there,

I am learning to use PSP7 by following a tutorial. At this point I am learning to add text to a picture. First I opened a new Vector Layer, then selected Text tool, opened the Text Enter box, selected font, color, typed text, clicked OK. So far so good. But when I tried to make change to text, or color, it somehow always added another set of text, instead of change the old one. Could someone tell me why is that? And how to correct it?

Many thanks,

I found system unresponsive to right click on desktop links and closing of windows in Firefox after watching a few TV programs on PutLocker--Yes, it is risky behavior I know that.
System highjack --> shut down using power switch. Booted on puppy Linux. Mounted /dev/sda2 (C:\)cleaned temp files and Cookies in: C:\Documents And Settings\All Users, C:\Documents And Settings\Owner (main user of computer), C:\Documents And Settings\NetworkService, ..\Default User, ..\LocalService.

Then I looked for new files modified/dated for the same day and found --> C:\Documents And Settings\"Owner"\Application Data\Adobe\Shockwave Player 11\Shockwave.log.
In the log was the installation of the file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11\SwHelper_1163633.exe

I have been looking for the codecs or plugins or BHO which have been inserted by advertisers on the link sites for TV Shows and I think that this is it.

I know that the means of infection lately has had to be Adobe, because it doesn't play well in the sandbox. They insist on putting their polluted cr*p on everyone's computer and insist on having hardware access. Can I be sure? No, especially because I didn't open it in a editor--I just nuked it along with the other things as part of a cleanup.

PS: The aforementioned file was on the system I reloaded as well--there were binary patches applied to the native ... Read more

I upgraded to Win 10 Pro from Win 7 Pro during the free upgrade period, at the time I had a 500 gig 5400 rpm hard disc, later I replaced the HD with an OCZ Vector 180 ssd, used the included copy of Acronis disc cloning software (i updated the Bios to the newest Version HP offfered prior to installing the ssd), now when I do a cold boot it gives me an error message saying no operating system found, if I go into the BIOS Setup menu then exit out of it without making any changes it goes ahead and boots normally. I can also do a warm boot (restart)it also reboots normally. I tried contacting OCZ support, they had several suggestions such as delaying the startup time 5 secnds, didn't do anything, increased it to 10 seconds with thes  same results (OCZ said the ssd needed more time to initialize itself). After trying 6 or 7 of their suggestions they sent me a new drive, I had saved the original HD so I cloned it to the new ssd, got the same results, no cold boot.  I've tried evey setting I can find in the BIOS, changed it from UEFI to Legacy boot with no results, disabled network booting, everything but Optical Disc, disabled Quick Boot, but nothing has changed. In Legacy mode it shows the internal hard drive to be the first thing to boot from, but that does nothing but say it can't find a bootable drive and then the option left is shut down the computer. Looking in the BIOS under Devices it doesn't show the ssd at all. There's no firmware update available for the ss... Read more
