Having trouble with S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR

Q: Having trouble with S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR

I'm having trouble with color for video on my computer. When I play a video file, the color is really off, nothing in the video is the color it's supposed to be.

I discovered if I go into the display trouble shooting tab in the advanced part of display and disable directdraw and direct3d accelerations, then my color for video is normal (all other color looks fine all the time, problem is in playing video only) But that limits alot of the games I play. I'm wondering if someone can tell me what I can do to solve this problem without having to disable directdraw and direct3d?

Preferred Solution: Having trouble with S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Can anyone help. I am trying to get my sons computer to play Dawn of War and it keeps saying that it is missing a directx spooge file. Having looked online most people who have had this problem say it is becuase the graphics card they have dosen't support this game. This was working before I sent the computer away to be repaired. Can anyone let me know if this game will work with this graphics card and how I can fix it..... or do I need to get a new card? If so can anyone recommend a cheap one that will work and are the easy to fit or will I need to get someone to do it for me?

Any help would be greatfully recieved.

Grandpas Computer Problem -

I've just recently left/kicked out of my old pad with my roomates. So I moved in with my grandparents temporarily. I dont have DSL anymore and i forgot how much 56k sucks. but anyways, I have to use my grandfathers computer which is a little better than my system except the video card sucks its a S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (shared ram?) whenever I play starcraft it starts to skip every 5 seconds. I will click right when its skipping and the action happens .5-1 seconds later this is very annoying. Starcraft is what- 8 years old now, this video card sucks. On my system i have a geforce 4, amd athlon 2.02ghz, and 512 ram. my grandpas system has P4 2.68ghz, S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR, and 512 ram but it says he only has 480 ram so that much of it must be shared to the video card which sucks.

My Computer Problem-

I just bought an NEC MultiSync XP15 CRT monitor from my sisters Boyfriend for 25 bucks because my old monitor belongs to my ex-roomate. and it seems like it won't work with my video card. I did notice that this monitor has a grey plug at the end of the cable and my old one had a blue plug. My grandpas monitor (GEM GM-1770 CRT) with a blue plug works with my system. How can I get the NEC i just bought to work? is it some sort of resolution problem? When i turn the computer on it loads windows up fine but as soon as it gets to the login screen it goes all fuzzy and ****.

Peace out

help needed

i got a ProSavage DDR video card but its drivers for linux are very hard to locate.
since i am working on a linux platform now, its GUI is also not starting up....
please help... urgent!!!

A:ProSavageDDR & Linux

This belongs in the Alternative OS (Linux) forum.

For now, try editing your xfree/xorg config (most likely in /etc/X11/XF86config ) and changing your video cards device driver to a generic one, try "vga". The easiest way to do this without a GUI is to run the auto configure, by typing at the console:

X -configure

If that fails to properly give you a setup, try running the guided setup, which is xf86config, most likely started like:

Choose conservative refresh settings and the generic vesa video driver.

So I accidentally deleted some program on my computer called ProSavageDDR

So I went online and downloaded it again. The version I downloaded is the latest version

Is this good for my computer? When I had deleted the program, the computer restarted and when it came up, the screen, everything, looked like video game mode or something. Everything was all big and kinda pixely. But then when I downloaded the program again (the newest version) everything went back to normal, although it kinda looks like everything, like the icons and stuff, got a little smaller but I don`t think you can really tell.

There`s also this program I downloaded to help me find out which control thingy I have on my computer

Like which ProSavageDDR version or something that I have on my computer.

But I downloaded that after I downloaded the new version of ProSavageDDR so I don?t know if that`s giving me information on the original one or the one I downloaded.

I was thinking about deleting the new version of that program and reinstalling that other program to help me find out which control thingy I have but I don?t know if it?ll work and I don`t wanna go through the same thing all over again.

I hope that made since. If I could reword it in a different way that makes a little more sense I would.

What should I do?

A:I need help badly with ProSavageDDR

I believe ProSavageDDR is a video card driver. Video card drivers are good! Unless your computer is misbehaving then you should leave it alone until you learn more about computers or in the very least ask somebody to look at it before you start changing things.

The above is pretty harsh considering that it's your computer and I'm some stranger. When we own a computer we have to be responsible for it's care and maintenance unless we want to pay some techno-dweeb to care for it for us. I started maintaining my computers years ago when I downloaded a Trojan that crashed my computer. Somebody sent me a Trojan trying to steal a game account from me. To be sure the Trojan was gone I reinstalled my operating system, and the learning process began. Your learning process has also begun. We all have to start somewhere.

Well, the obvious focal point is the drivers.

Check Device Manager. Click "show hidden devices" and report any flagged devices.

Check Event Viewer. Paste the full text of each individual error in Applications and Systems into your next post. Please put it in quotes for clarity.

Run chkdsk just in case. I've had 3 computers get fixed in 2 days with that one.

I recently performed a system re-build (Dell Dimension 3000). Re-installed Windows XP and all the necessary drivers (I believe), including the latest driver for my ATi 9250 card, which was the same driver I was using prior to the re-build.

I've now attempted to play CSS and also stream videos, e.g. BBC iplayer and all has not gone to plan. CSS is extremely laggy and glitchy, completely unplayable and iplayer is v intermittent, i.e. will play a couple of seconds, glitch, continue for a couple of seconds and so on.

Any suggestions anyone? Would really like some help please.

A:Trouble with graphics!! Please help!

I have some suggestions.
Since you dont give much information about the PC I will try to shoot in the dark:

Upgrade the memory on your PC.Update Windows XP.
Make sure you have latest DirectX-run some test on video tab.
Update your Internet explorer Adobe Flash Player, Java.
Check your computer performance - Ctrl+alt+del - Task Manager, then look at the processes tab to see if you have bottleneck on memory or cpu usage.
Run chkdsk from command prompt - Start menu-Run,type cmd, then type chkdsk /f
schedule to check for next restart
Check your computer for viruses.

I have had Fifa installed on my PC for a while and played it with no problems until today. When I loaded it, after a short while the colours went funny and it became pixelated so I exited thinking it was just a problem with the game but I've noticed a lot, if not all of the icons on my desktop, start menu etc are pixelated as well as the cursor. Ive tried some of the things the start menu help suggests but nothing helps. Is this my graphics card dying or could it be something else?

A:Graphics trouble

If the pixellated graphics appear outside of gaming. i.e. at startup and with just the desktop up and running then the card's Vram is likely about to need burial arrangements made.
If it just happens during gaming then try lowering the visual details to see if it lessens the problems.
You can check to make sure any attached power cable is secured correctly. You can also check to see that the card isn't blocked with dust. If the card is still under warranty then DO NOT disassemble the card to clean it.
In my experience once a card starts artifacting on a large scale, there is no way back.
Check these screenshots against what you see on your computer

I'm a Mac user (OS 10.4.10) trying to send photo attachments to a Windows XP user. She says when she clicks on the photo, she gets a message asking her what program she'd like to use to open the picture. But she doesn't have any graphics programs to use. I send photos to several Windows friends and none of them have problems. On a Mac, you click on a photo and it pops up in a Preview window. You can then choose to save to desktop. I would think Windows has a similar function. Like I said, none of my other Windows users have any such problem.

Would love to be able to tell my friend what her problem is. She's a low-end user and doesn't know about going to forums or getting support on-line.

You need to boot into safe mode by pressing F8 before windows begins to load then select safe mode!!!!

Once booted, go into device manager and remove everything in display adapters then reboot into normal mode!!!!

Once done, you should be able to install your graphics driver properly!!!!

Hi, here's a question for people who have a lenovo y40-70 or anybody at lenovo.I bought a lenovo y40-70 refurbished on amazon about a month ago, the first thing I did when it arrived was checking the specs, and something that catched my atention was the dedicated graphics card R9 M275X, it says that have DDR3 memory instead of GDDR5.This really bothers me becouse it cuts the performance of the GPU by half, and I checked every single techpage finding info about this GPU and all says that the graphics memory type is GDDR5.So my question for other y40-70 owners is: does your laptop have the same problem? and for lenovo's support is: Is there something to do about it?.

Hey guys,

I have had this problem for a long time with my PC now, and it has been preventing me from putting in any decent graphics cards. What has been happening is, I've put a graphics card in, played a game, then after around 10 mins of gaming, the screen freezes and the sound just goes over and over and over. I've had to reset my PC many times because of this problem, and I'm wondering what is causing it. However, when I only use onboard graphics or low-end graphics cards, everything is fine. I can game for ages and nothing will happen. For example, here's me specs when it WILL crash :

AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8Ghz
768mb Kingston Memory
(not sure about the motherboard)
250/300w PSU... I think its 300w max
Ati Radeon 9550
80gb Seagate HDD

Take out the Radeon 9550, and it works fine. For example, I used a Radeon 9200SE and it worked perfectly, no problems.

Also, when I used the higher-end graphics cards, and sometimes even with the lower-end ones, it gave me an alert during games that "Your gpu was not responding to driver commands. It has been reset..." etc. This gave me the idea that not enough power was running to the cards..

This is just an Acer T135 that I have moved to a new case and stuck some more RAM into. All I need now is to be able to put higher-end graphics cards in, like the nVidia 6 and 7 series, and I'll be completely happy.

Please help. What do you think the problem is? It isn't temperature...my cas... Read more

I sure hope you folks can help me. I just purchased an ATI All-in-Wonder 9600XT and cannot get it to properly work in many ways. First about my computer: Dell Pentium 4, 1.5 GHz, 256 RAM, AGP 4x, Windows XP with every current patch and update, Direct X 9.0b, IE 6.0.28, etc. As far as I can tell, all non-graphics card related drivers are up to speed. I installed the card, downloaded all the latest drivers for it, and yet it fails to work correctly in the following ways: 2-D games like Civilization III work fine, but whenever I try to run a game with any full motion video or intensive graphics (l've tried Dungeon Siege, Knights of the Old Republic and Railroad Tycoon 3 so far), the screen is garbled. There are black 'bar graph' style lines that move up and down on the screen and an assortment of lines and patterns that flash and dance all over it as well. Behind all of that you can make out what is supposed to be on the screen, and the accompanying sound works fine, but the picture as a whole is a mess. If you click on the screen, for example to skip past an opening video sequence in the game, the picture clears perfectly for just a moment, then goes to the next screen which is garbled again. I have tried adjusting my AGP aperature up from 64 to 256, turning off antialiasing and antsotropic filters, turning Truform off, disabling 'write combing', backing off the hardware acceleration from full tilt to just enough for Direct X and DirectDraw to continue ... Hey Everyone. I hopeing someone can help. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium install that is really working well and mostly fine tuned to fit my basic wants and needs. The one problem I have is the Intell HD 4000 Graphics. When I used windows update to install the latest drivers it seemed that something was not right. I had some issues with screen colors and scalling. I uninstalled. I then tried the ASUS version and same thing. I then went for the ASUS version but an older one. The one that was first offerd for this computer back in 2012. It seemed to work pretty good. It also installs something called OPEN CL. No problem. But then I noticed that when I right click on the desk top I have more than one control panel. Then I investigated task manager and MSCONFIG and the is all kinds of residual crap left over from the first two uninstalls. What the hack Intel, why cant you make uninstalls a little cleaner. What can I do???
Anyone else notice this leftover stuff. I am thinking of doing a backup and then trying to manually delete stuff from SYSTEM32 and the REGISTRY hopeing for a miricle and will be able to go back if it does not work. Is there something that can help me gett rid of the old stuff. I cant believe Intell whould do this. I am really wanting to put a graphics card in this system and I hope all this left over stuff will not cause problems with that. I am so mad because I really put a lot of time into getting this install just right. I boot in about 20 second... Read more

We know nothing about your computer, so do the following in it:

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

I just replaced my onboard graphics card with a pci card but now instead of entering windows I just get a black screen. I checked all the connections and switched the pci graphics card setting on in the bios but still have the same problem. I can hear it logging into windows so I know its not locked up. help!!

A:Graphics Card Trouble

If you connect the monitor to the integrated video after booting up to Windows do you get a display? If so then Windows is still using the integrated graphics as the main device. Was there an option anywhere in the BIOS to completely disable the onboard video - maybe by setting the shared memory size to None or Disabled?

I am having trouble with my video card that I've had for quite awhile.
I am trying to play like Warcraft and other games that I have played many time before with no troubles whatsoever.
Now I get this a 10 second hang up and when it comes back, I get this weird, almost Matriz like sound, almost like a buzzing.
That happens every 15 seconds.
I can play some others games fine, like Starcraft and Real War with non of these problems.
Like I said, the card played all games with no prolems whatsoever.
Please help me find a solution to this annoying problem.
I have Win XP with 384 mb ram.

A:Trouble with graphics card

384Mb RAM... thats not enough to play alot of todays games.

As far as the noise/freezing, it may be time for a new card.

I would verify that your chipset drivers and your video card drivers are up to date first.

What kind of card is it?

I bought a new Gateway GT5408 and added a PNY nVidia 7600 GS 512 MB video card. I used a Chiefmax ATX Switching Power Supply (550W) to run the card. Now, here's my problem: Every time I try to play a game with higher-end graphics, like Obliivion or Sims 2, my graphics card will freeze up. I will get little lines in the picture, the picture freezes, and eventually, the card just shuts down. My monitor will go off and I will be left with no other option than to turn off the computer and restart it. I have contacted PNY (a test of patience in and of itself) and they seem to think the card is faulty. Since it was much easier to do so, I returned the graphics card to where I bought it and got another one. It does the exact same thing. I have downloaded the newest drivers, so that's not the problem. Could I have another faulty card, or is it possibly an issue with the type of power supply I got? I'm frustrated as I can get. Can someone please advise me as to what the problem could be?

A:Graphics Card Trouble

I can come with two thoughts. First do as you suggest and check your power supply. Borrow another one and give it a try (Try to get one with similar power) .

I don't thing both cards are faulty! Well no one knows but we have to go by common sense. Maybe your card is not fully compatible with the mobo. BIOS updates usually correct stuff like that. Try a BIOS update using extreme care as it can damage your mobo if something goes wrong.

Maybe the mobo's PCI-X interface is faulty...That's bad news but it is a possibility.

Did you overclock your card or tried to unlock pipelines by using apps like RivaTuner?

I am actually trying to help someone in one of my online classes. She seems to not be able to upload JPEG files to the online class for any of us to open. She says everything worked okay last session (this is the second session for this semester). We are attending Art Institute online. She is running XP. None of us in the class are able to open any of her files that are .jpg. All of the rest of the class is not having any trouble reading each other's JPGs, so I do not think it is the school system. Her PDF files are fine. I found there was a notice on Microsoft about Windows 95 & 98 possibly having a corrupted registry and thus not being able to access JPGs. Any hints on what the problem might be?

A:Trouble with reading graphics files

How is she creating the jpg's? If she is altering the compression with another application, then some picture programs may no longer be able to open the files.

See if IrfanView can open them:

Hi everyone, here is the problem:

Presario SR1315CL
512 MB RAM
160 GB HDD
Windows XP Home

I just installed a GEForce FX5200 PCI card. I didn't want to lose any RAM to onboard video. I changed the setting in the bios to PCI and uninstalled the display adapter in 'my computer'. However, after uninstalling the onboard display adapter and installing the GEForce, I restart the computer and it re-installs the drivers for the onboard and I still lose RAM to it. How do I get around this. Here are the steps I took following the HP website recommendations.

1. Uninstalled display adapter from 'my computer' > 'properties' > 'Hardware Manager'

2. Shut down computer

3. Install PCI card

4. Start computer, press F1 to enter setup and set video to 'PCI'

5. Install drivers from disk that came with card.

Did I do something wrong or miss a step? Why is it still installing the old drivers for the onboard, and why is it still using my RAM for that? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
